Stopped by on my way home for a black coffee. I had heard that Whataburger had good coffee and was excited to try it for the first time. Let me just say it was not good. It tasted very sour bitter and was actually only lukewarm. If I hadn't already pulled out of the drive-through was about a quarter mile away when I took my first sip, I would've taken it back. Not sure why their coffee is that bad or if I just hit them on a bad day, but I definitely would not want to take a second sip of this and will pour it out when I get home. Sadly, this rating appears on par for both this particular location and, as of late, Whataburger in general. Two things stand out. SLOW service. Both my friend and I commented on the length of time it took to prepare a standard item from their menu in the afternoon. It shouldn't be a production or an imposition to prepare their chicken bites and fries. While I know the manager who brought me my order meant well, it shouldn't be a big deal to tell me that my order is hot. Second -- the condiment rationing continues unabated since the Chicago gang took over. The condiment trays are now kept under the counter. The staff doles out the famous Whataburger ketchup packets as if they are a rare commodity. As for the lemon packets that used to be in the beverage area, those now have to be requested and the staff have to go into the back of the restaurant to find them. After not eating at this particular Whataburger for sometime, I decided to give them another try. I ordered a biscuit and sausage sandwich and an order of hash browns to go. As I sat there, I observed the person preparing my meal, use her bare hands to assemble it, after touching the counter, drawers, and other contaminated areas. Passed through Lockhart, saw the Whataburger and thought we'd give it a shot. We placed out order, the girl read it back. It was correct. We went to the window. The same girl read our order again, incorrectly this time. When told she was not correct, she acted annoyed and told us to hang on and closed the window. When she returned she said, "Well we already made it. We can add more stuff to it if you want but its already made." We replied to this that we were not buying what we didn't order. We went inside on a visit a couple of days ago and although I saw a single one-star review, I figured it was worth a stop simply because I like Whataburger and we were hungry. Anyway. In complete contrast to some of the poor experiences below, I've always encountered a clean store and restroom. And it's "fast food" (slower than McDonald's), which means it employs kids, which means MISTAKES HAPPEN SOMETIMES. What earns them 5 stars is how each mistake I've had with them has been dealt with. The managers bend over backwards to make it right. I've had my entire family's meals comped in the past because of a single error on a burger and I didn't want to drive the 5 minutes back to the store. Another thing they've done is take my name, and the next time I returned I mentioned I had an issue with an order and they took care of the bill, no questions asked.
