This was a great find in Lockhart when not craving BBQ from one of the well-known BBQ spots. The service is top notch. Friendly and hospitable. It's a small dive bar with indoor and outdoor seating. They have a good variety of beers on tap and bottles, I think. I only had the ones on tap. The food is great. We had the fried okra (whole pieces) and onion rings, which are delish. Not salty and the batter does not fall off, which is a plus. We also ordered the patty melt, bahn mi burger and boneless wings. We enjoyed them all. Good portions and flavorful. I can't believe I've never reviewed this place. You literally can't go wrong. I could probably make a meal off of just their appetizers. I've literally never had fried mushrooms at a restaurant that were Portabella. These are to die for but the star of the appetizer menu to me are the fried pickled okra. they are coated in a perfect , cornmeal batter and served with homemade ranch dressing. Now onto the main courses. The burgers are all phenomenal. I have tried three or four of them no matter which one you get, order it Bob's way, which comes with fried onion strings. I usually can't finish a whole burger, but here I make myself finish the burger. No morsel is wasted. I recently tried one of their hotdogs, and I can say it won't be my last. Last but not least, their sides with the burgers cannot be beat. I know it sounds weird to say, but I am not much of a french fry person. Here I want to eat all of them. Their onion rings are equally delicious and their sweet potato chips are unlike anything I've ever gotten of the sweet potato family. We were a pretty big crowd in a fairly empty bar. I'd say the bartender handled himself very well. The area outside is intimate for listening to music, but the flies from Smitty's can get a little thick on the rim of your pint glass. I really thought I was going to like this place. They have a huge pride flag indicating this is a safe place. My server was quick to take my order TO GO and bring my drink. She's on her own so that's great there. There were two tables when I came in. However it's been well over 30 minutes and still no food. I ordered a hot dog and a burger to go. The burger was huge but very good. The chips were great. I ordered a loaded dog. It was interesting but tasty. The bacon was ground (?) in small bits and the dog split and grilled. I loved the food. But it was an order to go and quite messy to eat. No napkins or plastic ware was offered. Trying to find a knife and a fork in the rehab home was difficult. LOF, as I've affectionately abbreviated it as, is the quintessential wing bar in Downtown Lockhart. If you have tired of BBQ try mixing it up here. They have tons of wing options and a few things to keep the menu popping. Like Jalapaño poppers. These aren't your typical breaded fare, these are fresh, filled with cream cheese, and wrapped in a slice of bacon poppers. I make them at home a lot, but it was nice to see them on a menu! The wings are the reason you come here, though. The flavors are outrageous. We had the garlic parmesan, hatch chile, and traditional buffalo. All three were great and totally different. The garlic was made with fresh, chunky garlic. You often see powdered garlic and parm on wings, but not here. The hatch was interesting, too. We were so stoked to try this place when it opened! Lockhart was SORELY in need of a good hot wing place. My boyfriend ordered the 10-piece wings with HOT buffalo sauce and I got the 10-piece cauliflower with traditional buffalo sauce. Both sauces were very good- the hot sauce was a bit thicker. And both were messy so we were grateful for the wetwipes and the roll of paper towels on our table. The wings were SUPER meaty and very well-cooked! I have never seen bone-in wings with so much meat on them. The cauliflower was well-cooked and totally soaked up all the buffalo saucy goodness. My boyfriend was sweating and crying from the hot sauce, but that's how he likes it. I don't know what the dipping sauce was that came with the sweet potato fries, but it was out of this world.
