Did I step into the twilight zone? I just paid $36 of my last hundred dollars in the bank to buy Whataburger for me and my fiancé. We're supposed to be hitting the road today again for the 14 hour ride back to New Mexico from Houston and getting a good start with a good meal, (from a place in Texas that we love )usually is priceless, usually. Well instead of having a meal waiting for us as I had seen on the confirmation screen which confirmed they took our money and there should be sandwiches waiting for us at the Whataburger however when we got here there was no way to pick up the food and when we finally talk to a manager she said to find the number on the app for customer service and call them for a refund but I asked her if she could help me find the number and she said," it's on the app. "

Nothing upscale or authentic, but orange chicken like you'd find in a mall food court. Sichuan Pepper Express fit the bill. You walk in and all of the food is premade and sitting under heat lamps for who knows how long. The lady behind the counter was super sweet and immediately helped me. The combo plates start at 1 entree choice + 1 side for $8.50. Add an additional entree for only $2 more. I ordered the Combo 3 which is 3 entree choices + 1 side for $12.50. For the amount of food I was given, quite a reasonable price. For my entrees I got the (you guessed it) Orange Chicken, Black Pepper Chicken, and Amazing Spicy Chicken. All "fried" dishes...by no means authentic. But everything surprisingly stayed crispy and hot on the drive to my office. The Orange Chicken had a good amount of sauce on the outside, but quite dry on the inside. The Black Pepper Chicken was probably my favorite and was small crispy pieces of chicken in a black pepper sauce with onions and jalapeños. the Amazing Spicy Chicken is basically the fried spicy chicken cubes you'll find at any Szechuan restaurant. This was my first experience seeing it in a mall-style restaurant pre-made. While I will always order this when eating Szechuan food, I thought the one here had a tinge of sweetness to it, which I found a bit off-putting. For my side, I got the fried rice which was your standard fried rice. I did notice that this one had quite a few pieces of raw onion in it, perhaps did not get fully cooked through in the stir fry process. As a result, a few of my bites had a bite to it because I was rawdogging these onions. Definitely a spot for convenience if you're in the mood for quick Chinese food on the go. While there is room for improvement in the quality, need not forget that all the food here is pre-made and has been sitting out until you order it. I'll be back to try more of their offerings.

Between the group we ordered two HOT Chicken Thunder Fries, the HOT MESS fries, three orders of the jumbo chicken tenders and waffles (two hot honey, one plain), a full order of mac and cheese, and the Cheeseburger Fryders. It was a lot of food and somehow it was all hot, fresh, and honestly really good. I love a sweet and savory combo when I'm expecting it, and this place definitely delivers. The waffles reminded me a lot of classic Waffle House waffles and the tenders were huge and actually seasoned well. The loaded fries were seriously loaded too. Lots of sauce, lots of meat, and we definitely didn't feel cheated. We were stuffed and still had leftovers. The only thing I personally wasn't crazy about were the Fryders. I think mini waffles as buns would've been better, but they weren't bad and my friend scarfed them down. Service was quick once we ordered and the staff was super chill. They let us sit there gossiping and picking at food for almost three hours without making us feel rushed, which I really appreciated. A couple small complaints though. Ordering is only through the iPads so you don't really get to ask questions, and the tables could definitely be wiped down a bit more often. Also the AC could be turned down a little... it was pretty cold in there. That said, the prices are actually pretty reasonable for The Heights. I spent a little over $50 myself and didn't feel scammed one bit considering how much food we ordered. Funny enough we originally tried to go to their Alabama location on Sunday but the line was out the door and parking was a nightmare. My friend literally drove off and told us to cancel. We ended up driving about 26 minutes to this location instead and honestly I'm glad we did. Great food, quick turnaround, and a fun spot to hang out for a while. We'll definitely be back.

We always order from the spicier side of menus, and there's no question when you get your food that they aren't playing around. I remember the hype this place got as they started out and moved from their original spot to this new spot on Shepard. Now that they have inside seating, I figured it was time to check them out. I was in the area at a local bar with friends, and a few friends ordered Mico's through DoorDash. It looked and smelled so good that I decided I had to have it that night, but at the restaurant. I pulled up to what looks a new building. They share a lot with other businesses but I was able to get a parking spot easily. The restaurant is spacious with lots of seating. They also have bar seating by the register. When I looked around, I noticed alot of people waiting on food. It was a mix of food delivery drivers as well as patrons that had ordered and waiting. There was a customer at the counter going off on the employees and I got to commend the young staff for keeping their cool. That being said, the young staff was friendly and trying their best, but they were drowning and the mood in the place was off. Items were forgotten. People were not getting their food in the order of when they ordered. Four parties ordered after me, with similar items and everyone got their orders before mine. I think I was forgotten and only after one of the staff noticed me waiting did they come and look at my receipt. Time from ordering to receiving my food was close to 40 minutes. This is a hot chicken place that is trying to be somewhat fancy. I was served my food on a nice plated plate. Nice touch, but it felt off for the food being served here. They also give utensils in cloth napkins. No paper towels or napkins in sight. Hot chicken is messy and the cloth napkins was not doing it for me. I ended up up knife and forking my sandwich to keep the messy hands from happening. They also serve their fountain drinks in small cups filled to the brim with us. A few swigs and my drink was almost gone. For a place serving spicy food, a soda fountain with refills or readily available water should be available and out front. Now to the good part. The food was outstanding. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich at their hottest level which also came with a side. I got the waffle fries. The sandwich was voted one of the best dishes in the state by Texas Monthly and I can see why. It was a hefty sandwich with a large chicken breast seasoned to perfection. I always love when their is a little hangover of the chicken outside of the bun. The chicken was crispy but juicy inside. The heat was there but totally bearable with the cooling component of the delicious slaw on top. I usually pick pickles off sandwiches, but the pickles here were good and the acidity added a pleasant touch to the sandwich. The waffle fries were also excellent. They were the battered and seasoned kind which I love. The food most definitely saved the overall experience on my visit here. I will say it is one of the better hot chickens I have had in Houston. Now if they go back to their roots and not try to be fancy and do better on their customer service, I can see this place sticking around for a long time. With my experience, I don't see myself hurrying back anytime soon.

Since this was in the Heights, parking was sparse, but the interior had a clean, modern look and plenty of seating. Since my friends and I came on a Thursday night, there weren't many customers. The listing for this exact location says "pets welcome," so I felt confident stopping by. However, as soon as I walked in, I was greeted by two customers fawning over my dog. Before any staff member greeted me or even acknowledged me as a customer, someone from behind the far counter told me that dogs were not allowed inside. I mentioned that their Google listing says pets are welcome, and the response was that it applies to a different location. That would be fine if it were clear, but the listing I checked had this location's address directly underneath "pets welcome." That is confusing and misleading. What made it more frustrating was the lack of hospitality. There was no greeting, no attempt to clarify kindly, no "We're sorry for the confusion," and no effort to offer a solution like helping me quickly order to go. It felt dismissive. Clear and accurate information matters. If pets are not welcome at this location, the listing should reflect that. I drove out of my way based on that detail, and it ended up being a waste of time and gas. Because of that experience, I chose not to patronize the this location but may try another location one day.
