Look if you don't like Whataburger, you can just get the heck out. Whataburger has been and always will be my favorite fast food burger joint (notice I said fast food burger, not best burger of all time, just to quell the arguments before they start). One the food is absolutely amazing. I've ordered a plethora of different things from the menu, I'm not sure there's anything I haven't there except maybe things from their breakfast menu, and it's all been superb. The onion rings are like real onions and are amazing. Not lIke the BK onion rings that are closer to Funyuns than onion. These are like legit restaurant style. Then their sauces, good lawd, the sauces. There's like thirty different amazing sauces. I'm talking Jalapeño Ranch, I'm talking about Spicy Ketchup, I'm talking about this Peppery one I can't remember the exact name of right now. The service there has usually always been good, but unfortunately the service at this particular location is why they got a 4 instead of 5. Wasn't horrible, but they were extra slow and didn't seem to care what I wanted, they just wanted to keep a dull tone and push buttons, I'm about the service industry being lively and for customer. They are always out of gravy. How do you run out of gravy it's literally water and flour. Also it will take 30-45 mins for the drive through line on Saturday and Sunday morning they do not get in any kind of hurry. read more

My food was lukewarm, service was slow, the cashier was friendly. Will I ever return? I can live without it.

One thing that I have never had an issue with is the food. It hasn't been cold. It hasn't been bland. What I do have a problem with is the service, which has continued to go downhill since this location's opening. I've visited for breakfast in the morning, only to find myself waiting at the counter sometimes up to 5 minutes for someone to come around from the kitchen and notice that there is a customer-and this isn't at an unusual time. I'm talking 6-7 am! During lunch times, I am usually with others and one of us usually has to wait an additional 3-5 minutes for her order (and unfortunately, it is always the same person), but there have been at least two occasions when she has had to ask after about 10 minutes where her order is because she'd notice other tables getting their orders and those people came in well after we did. Both times she was told that the staff had "lost" her order. During what will likely be our last visit, a couple of days ago, we encountered the following: one of our group always gets a patty melt with jalapeno ranch instead of creamy pepper sauce-and it took the cashier maybe 2 minutes to understand what she was asking for and another minute to figure out how to enter the order; I'm brought a take out order in a bag that had the same table tent number as mine, but despite my receipt being on the table showing I had a dine in order that had a different order number than what was on the receipt on the bag, the number was taken and the bag left with me. When the lady returned with their condiment tray, I think she finally realized I probably didn't have a to go order if I was with a group that was still waiting on dine in orders. She offered to get me a tray, thinking my order had been bagged in error and I finally had to show her the receipts didn't even match. Another guy sitting in the restaurant was waiting on a takeout order and had been given the same tent number I had. Now why you would have multiple tents with the same number is beyond me, but the lady took the bag, walked it over to him and came back to ask if we wanted any condiments- from a tray that looked to be half full, and there were only 5 tables with customers at the time. Someone asked for the jalapeno ranch-yeah, that wasn't on the tray and she said, "Sorry," but didn't offer to get any! I finally get my order, and my poor friend, who always gets orders last here, gets a look on her face that just says, "Are you kidding me? Again?" She basically ordered the same thing I did, and ordered before me- but we found out that she got her order last this time because a guest complained that a nozzle for one of the drink fountains had just fallen off as he was trying to use it, and the guy who was bringing my friend's order was asked by a manager to fix the nozzle, and instead of delivering the order first, he put the tray down and worked on the nozzle! While we're eating, a manager/shift lead brings an order out and can't find the tent with the number, so she asks who had an order with no onions. Two people look up as if to respond, but she has her back turned to one of them and goes to the lady that she saw. She then looks at the lady's ticket and tells the her that they put the wrong tent number on the ticket, because her tent was 21, but the ticket showed 26. Another staff member then brings out an order with no onions AND no mayo. The number on that ticket...21. THAT was actually her order and her receipt did have the right number on it. Since the lady had already started eating the other order that wasn't hers, they told her to keep both orders. Of course, this was overheard by the 2nd lady that the manager had her back to when she originally asked who had an order with no onions. The number on her table tent was 16. The number on her receipt was 26. That explains why the manager couldn't find a table-she was correct in saying that the first order had the wrong number on the receipt because it should have been 16, not 21 and not 26. The 2nd lady stormed up to the counter, told them what happened and demanded that her order be made again and now made to go because she had been waiting so long and they had just screwed things up too. Perhaps instead of just looking at numbers on tents that people have on their tables, the people delivering the orders should also compare what's on the receipt that they have against the receipt that the customer has. That was two instances during one visit, that not comparing tickets resulted in wrong orders. read more

I've been here a couple times since my initial review and I'll have to say it's not as good as the first time. Maybe it was something new/different and I was excited to eat there, I don't know. Consistency is HUGE and this place hasn't been. It was good the first time then it was decent the other 3-4 times. I compared it to In-n-Out and there's not much of a comparison in my opinion. It's more comparable to Wendy's and I think I might like Wendy's better. It's still a solid burger place, but the hype is a over the top to me. I will say you get a good amount of food for what you spend and that's always a plus. read more

Let me start with the statement that I love whataburger. I love you can get burgers all day long there. Sometimes I just crave one of those at 8 am. But, I have gone twice now and ordered #16 chicken melt and have yet to receive it. The first time I got home and had plain chicken - literally nothing else - on a bun. The second time I got chicken bites. I'm sure I'll go back one day and try again. At this point I just want to know what it looks like. Love Whataburger, but the staff at this particular location are rude and incompetent. While placing my Drive Thru order, I asked for a double Whataburger meal, ketchup only, add bacon, and when I got my meal, it was a single. When I went back inside to have them correct the mistake, they took my sandwich, added a piece of meat, and gave it back. Oh, and let me not forget that while I was trying to order, there was a loud, verbal altercation between workers happening in the background. The staff was rude and unapologetic. What is wrong with this store? Error errors errors. Ordering at drive thru "was that sweet tea? " "No unsweet please" got sweet anyway. Diet coke ordered got regular coke. Sausage biscuits ordered, mustard requested: one, had to ask for more. Three hash brown orders. No ketchup. "ketchup please" one. Need three more please. No smile, also no cheese on a biscuit. This is THE WORST DRIVE THRU IN BIRMINGHAM. (and I've been to some pretty bad places) The drive thru is wrapped and extremely slow Every. Single. Night. I've written a review to the GM months ago, now I'm coming here to warn people to not go because he obviously doesn't care. There's usually two employees at the window at any given time and all they do is stand around and move like turtles. No one has a sense of urgency or cares that it took 30 minutes for a sandwich and fries. I truly hate this place and hate that is one of the few 24hr places on 280 but I don't get home until after 11 so food choices are slim. This is my first time in a Whataburger. The burgers were thin so if you are hungry get a double. The burgers come with lettuce, onion and tomato. They were made fresh and hot off grill. Nikki waited on us and was pleasant and welcoming. The location was very clean. The sweet tea was not as sweet as I was expecting in the South. We asked if they had seasoned fries and said yes meaning salt as a seasoning. They had a spicy ketchup. read more

The entire experience was absolutely awful. I sat in the drive thru for about 40 minutes which is absolutely ridiculous. I specifically asked for a cheese and bacon and for the SECOND time there is no bacon on it once again. I highly do not recommend. read more

Arrived at 11:30 am Homewood location, placed my order thru an employee standing outside taking orders. Sat it line for 5 minutes, in outer lane, and the inside lane customer are just moving along and getting their food, while my {outer} lane is just sitting there not moving not getting their food 3 cars ahead of me left with no food. After a few more minutes I went inside and complained to the manager about what is happening with the 2 drive thru lanes, she was not concerned about the problem, at that time some girl said I was just going to bring your food out to you. A little late for that. The manager has the inner lane working as a true drive thru and the outer lane has to wait longer times to get there food brought out to them, by that time your food is cold. McDonalds 2 lane drive thru works like this they take an order from one lane then they move up they take an order from the other lane and that person moves up a weave process so each lane is taking a turn to order move up then the other lane takes their turn to order and move up. NOT only the inside lane gets to order and pulls up to the window continuedly, leaving the outer lane to just sit there or leave. The process they are using the outer lane should be close. read more

The people working here we very friendly, and was able to get our food out quickly to us. It was very clean compared to a lot of Whataburgers I have seen across the country. I would say the downside of this location would be trying to get out of the parking lot during times of heavy traffic. read more

We sat in the drive thru behind ONE car for 10 minutes... in the drive thru... without the other car being asked to move forward. Not exactly the definition of "fast" food. I went, and employee at the window to pay told me to pull up to the nearest stop sign. Confused, I did so, and watched as she promptly started serving the people behind me instead. I don't understand why she thought that everyone behind me deserved service and I didn't. I waited, and not a single employee came out to say a word to me. This isn't worth dealing with when there's a great location just down the road in in Chelsea where the employees don't make you play games just to get your food. This was our first dine-in experience with this particular location, and it was a joke. My daughter had a coupon for the WhataChicken sandwich, which we presented upon ordering, and we also ordered two Whataburger Jr meals. I paid, we took our seat and waited. About 10 minutes later our food arrived, with no small milkshake that was on our order. While the lady was going back to get it, we opened our wrappers to find two COLD junior whataburgers and a sad, sad plain hamburger...literally a piece of meat, a drizzle of ketchup and two buns. When the lady came back, I pointed out that we had ordered a Whatachicken sandwich, and she said, "oh yeah we're outta those, didn't he (the cashier) tell you?" "Ummm, no," I said and she walked away. IN WHAT UNIVERSE is a sad, pathetic, plain meat disc an acceptable substitute for a chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato and a savory sauce? A mild attempt was made to make it better, but we didn't accept. What we ordered was cold and not what we expected. Why throw MORE disappointment on top of it. Anyway, we ate it. We used to live in Alabaster and frequently visited the Whataburger location out there, so we were excited when this one opened up closer to our new home. Unfortunately, every time we go--and this is not an exaggeration--the order is wrong. They either leave something out or, on the last 3 trips, they gave me another person's order entirely. Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. I have written to corporate about this via the website and I have placed phone calls to this local branch asking for a manager to contact me, without so much as a single response or apology. I am thrilled that there is now a Whataburger in my neighborhood. I haven't been inside, but have been through the drive thru three times this week. The food is consistent with other locations, but has not been hot. Two of the three times, my order was incorrect (I ordered straight from the menu...a combo meal without any special requests). Today, they were extremely busy and things weren't moving along smoothly. The staff seemed unorganized, but I am assuming the kinks will get worked out once they have been open for a while. After they settle in, hopefully the food temperature will improve as well. There is an abundance of young staff in training. With the exception of two, the employees were very friendly and seemed eager to do a great job. They politely apologized for the mix up with my order both times. It is slightly difficult to get in and out of this location, but that is a typical issue for a lot of businesses along Hwy 280. read more
