I did A review years ago on (What a mess what a mess dog grooming) but I think it's time to do another. My wife and I have taken our little boy Cutter for years. We would not take him anywhere else for a clipping. These employees are knowledgeable of the way to handle your pets. Our little dog feels comfortable in their presets you can tell. He is not shake or shiver while walking into the environment. He is actually like friends with the people who work there now. Professional groomer there is very knowledgeable on how to treat your animal while doing the trimming. I've seen times when they had to come a pet down before trimmig. And handle it very well. Their customer service is very very good. And they will go out of their way to help you get an appointment as soon as possible. I mentioned a review in the past. My wife would not let me take our pet anywhere else. This place is just fantastic. read more

Had a very disappointing and heart breaking grooming at What A Mess in Apache Juntion. Had an appointment at 10am. Checked at 3:00 to see why they hadn't notified me that I could pick up my poddle. At 4:00 I went by to check to see what was happening. I could see my poddle in a cage bitting it with her teeth. Sad part was next day noticed that she was missing a half a dollar size area of hair on her back leg. I been told that she has razor burn. Look it up on goggle. Hair will not grow back. My poddle is a beautiful dog. This was so unprofessional and heart breaking. Had to give 1 star on review in order to post. I wouldn't even give them 1 star. read more

I've been taking Penny in to see Samantha for nail trims. Samantha loves on her. Kisses her head and face and says things to my baby girl in a calming tone! Samantha is amazing. As for the lady a few reviews down who claimed there were dogs in cages in another room. The dogs are in kennels to keep them from running all over the place and those kennels are on the left hand side of the wall if you're facing them. I think that gal lied!! read more

We took our 18 lb. dogs there to get a nail trim and the male groomer came over to get one of them, we explained that they had been abused and he explained that he knew how to handle dogs like that. He walked with her to the table, she peed on him, because of her being afraid, so he sat her down on the table moved back some to look at the pee I guess and she fell off the table , was running from him, then he wanted to put her in a sling, which only stressed her out more. That's when she bit him. What I found interesting is the owner that was there didn't say a word and didn't seem very friendly and the other gal who had a dog on her table walks over after all this and says there is a $50 bite fee. I don't mind having to pay that since I was there and seen it all but there again he was not being gentle with her and I explained the abuse and that was the first time there and didn't see any prices posted so was kinda shocked by the $50 fee. I will be disputing this charge. read more

Despite a good job trimming my border collie by a young groomer, the entire experience was spoiled when by the owner on cashing out. She added, without prior notice or consent, a $50 fee for being nipped while brushing the dog. When I inquired where the $50 surcharge went, she lied and said for a tetanus shot for the groomer. When I countered that workman's comp would cover that, she went silent. I offered to give the groomer $50 and pay the agreed fee for her work, the old crone said no. Then she went on to refuse to extend the 10% "shop local" discount that was advertised in the window. I paid the full, inflated price, but promised to leave a review reflecting this BAD EXPERIENCE. There are many other groomers in the area. I suggest you choose another; I certainly will next time. read more

I've been taking my dogs to what a mess for years and I highly recommend them. In reading through other reviews,particularly the ones that spoke harshly about the mother I feel compelled to say first impressions are misleading in her case. She is very kind. She's also very busy, and is trying to stay on schedule. Some people are totally unaware that they are being demanding, monopolizing the groomers time rambling on and on, there are only 2 or 3 people working there so sometimes they have to cut people off in order to be productive. They are there to groom dogs no stroke the ego of every "Karen" who wants to spend half an hour talking about their oh so special super unique K9 that is the only dog ever to walk on all 4's, bark at the moon or chase a car. "You should see my Labrador Retriever fetch a ball! It is amazing! I throw it, he goes after it, and brings it back to me, everytime! And he will do it as many times as I want. I throw it he gets it. He brings it right back to me! He is so smart, I taught him that in 1 day. I just say,'fetch!' and throw that ball, and off he goes. Then right back he brings that ball everytime!!" I'm just saying, sometimes ya gotta cut them off, even if it means a bad review. read more

This salon is where I have taken my dogs for 5 years. They are always professional, my dogs love them and I refer everyone I know to them. Their prices are in line, or cheaper than others. I hear horror stories about other dog groomers in the are and feel Blessed to have these gals. If someone gives a bad review, I would question that customer! read more

Took my very hard to handle poodle/ schnauzer there for a clip on 12/9/20. My husband & I had been trying to clip him for )3 months. That meant hours & hours of acclimating him to the clippers & scissors. We also used Ativan, CBD oil & finally trazadone & Ace promozine recommended-by our Vet. Nothing seemed to help his anxiety. Took Bandit to this groomers and within 1 1/2. Hrs he came out perfect! She told me the secret is to take it slow, talk to him constantly @ give him lots of kisses! I used to drive from west Mesa to take my dogs here for their grooming needs. I believe I've been four times. The first three time were great with only one complaint: someone cut my dogs nail too short and caused bleeding. The daughter did make me aware and was able to stop the bleeding and it seemed like my dog didn't even realize it happened. Accidents happen, no biggie. I was thankful she was honest. The fourth and final time I went, I was given a time frame of two and a half hours for both of my Yorkies to be ready. I even had an appointment. It's not like I was a walk in. I arrive at the time they gave and they were just giving my dogs a bath. They didn't even start the shaving yet. The mom told me that I need to leave and wait until she calls me because clearly they arent ready and have other dogs to do. I looked at my husband and asked him if he wanted to go walk around the store and wait some more. Well the mom had apparently taken this as me giving her attitude and told me to take my damn dogs and don't come back. The daughter was actually nice and helpful at that time, telling her mother that we did nothing wrong and she needed to relax. We took our dogs and left. I got home and wrote about my experience on Facebook. What I assumed to be the mom, got on and started telling a completely untrue story about what "really" happened and how I was just in there cursing at everyone and threatening everyone in the shop. I maybe said 10 words to her, and none of which were nasty! I even apologized to her if I did something to make her think I didn't want them working on my dogs and I had no issues waiting. She lied about the whole experience and then removed my review from Facebook and blocked me so I couldn't put it back up. It turns out that they are both liars because it was the daughter who was on Facebook writing her story. Im sad to say, because my first few experiences were wonderful, do not take your dogs here. Go somewhere you will be treated respectfully. read more

DON'T take your dogs here unless you want to deal with a multitude of issues. Scheduled first thing in the morning, was greeted pretty rude by the front desk first off. Said it would be maximum 2 hours... 3 1/2 hours later I walked in to check in (and yes, I called once after the 2 hr mark and was told they would almost be done) , my dogs were not dry, barely brushed, nails weren't trimmed, and they yet again rudely said "we didn't call you to pick them up". I know people get busy but they were aware I was in a rush due to family being in town. I said I'll just take them now don't worry about their nails. They got my dogs out, quickly and pretty forcefully clipped their nails, and even made the comment about another dog saying "I hope this dog never comes here again he's such a pain in the a**" . So unprofessional. So all that being said, I highly advise others look for another place to get their fur babies WELL groomed and more importantly well taken care of. read more

I give this 4 stars for quality and price, 2 stars for customer service/follow through. I've taken my dog here once for the full grooming service, she's small and hairy. I was able to call and make an appointment for later in the week. After the service, she looked pretty good. Her fur was clipped to the length I wanted, but the coat looked a little rough, like the clipper teeth left small tracks. She was bathed but I felt like her coat wasn't as soft and fluffy as when I bathe her at home. Her ears and feet were nicely trimmed. Overall, for the price this is a very good option. My disappointment came when I tried to make another appointment two months later. I called but the voicemail was full so I couldn't leave a message and after several attempts and no answer, I gave up and tried the next week. The next week, still no answer but I was able to leave a message. The voicemail message mentions appointments via text or Facebook but I couldn't figure out how to do it even though I'm tech savvy. It also said to please be patient with them, so I decided to wait almost a whole week, but no return call. I really wanted to be a regular customer so I left another message (still no answer) and never received a return call. Hence, I gave up and went elsewhere. I don't know if they are completely booked and it's because the prices are so reasonable that they don't need new customers or need to answer their phone, but there's enough options close to me that I don't feel I need to beg a business to accept my money. I recommend that if you get in, maybe schedule your next appointment before you leave, or you may never hear from them again. read more

I took my little dog to this place and was very unhappy with their treatment of my girl. They stated that they didn't want to groom her again said she tried to bite them and they had to muzzle her. In over the last 13 yrs she has never had this problem before so leads me to believe they were not treating her very carefully or lovingly. Also her right back leg has a nick that bled. I feel the groomer doesn't like dogs that much from first impression. Leaving this to let others to be aware. read more

What an amazing job! I have a border collie/canan mix with an undercoat. Shed city! What-a-mess cleaned him up, took care of the undercoat, and trimmed his nails all for less than $50. The best part is that my dog is usually skiddish around strangers but like others have experienced the groomers are calm and patient and had no problems keeping him relaxed. read more

I tried this company because of their good reviews, but am not able to support them at all. After our initial communication, they texted me with a proposed date for scheduling. I replied to their text message to agree as well as ask for a call or further communication to answer my questions, such as do they need a picture of my dog for estimated cost. They did not respond to my text, so I figured they'd just show up on that day and I would trust that their price qs fair at the time. Well, the scheduled day past on Wednesday and they did not show or even acknowledge the appointment they missed. I am going elsewhere for my dog grooming needs and recommend the same for you. read more

I have an older Doxie who's nails grow so fast...she has to have them trimmed monthly. The young lady that does the nail trims is SO patient AND kind! She has never hurt Daisy and I will be a loyal customer to "What a mess" groomers only! Make sure to tip her, she ONLY charges 5.00, I think she should charge more, yes she's that good. read more

Highly recommended! I have 3 large dogs who needed nail trimming. The patience the groomers took to get their nails trimmed was amazing. Admittedly my dogs can be a handful and they were able to calm them all down in a short time. Doggies are so happy now and prancing around on the tile floor pain free. Took both of my dogs to What a Mess today for the first time. Will not be going back again. The Shih-Tzu did not have his ears cleaned and the hair was not pulled out of them. Trimming was not good and I had to retrim his face when I got home. The Schnauzer didn't get his ears cleaned or have the hair pulled out of them either. Also, I saw he was licking his right foot and when I checked it there was blood on it. He had been cut. His beard and mustash was not trimmed well, and one eyebrow was longer than the other. Thought I had found a good place to have my dogs groomed, but I was mistaken! Do Not take your dog here to be groomed! !! read more
