Unlike a couple of his colleagues, who were rude and dismissive on the phone (and one of whom has yet to call me back, a week later), John answered the phone promptly (on a Sunday!), addressed all of my questions, asked all of the right ones, and waited patiently while I consulted with my wife on his quote. He came the very next day, and completed the job in less than a day and a half. John provided expert input in choosing a shade and finish (who knew that white paint is not just white paint, or the secret to choosing the right white?). He showed up equipped with a copy of his license, insurance and bonding papers. Although he had to move some furniture and other items to do the job (and did so single-handedly and without complaint), he was able to get the job done with absolutely no disruption to the household. And it is truly the best paint job I have ever seen. John's business is called East Bay PAINTER, but it turns out that's not all he does. While he was working, I asked whether he happened to know a good handyman who could remove an old decaying wall cabinet and install shelves. John was happy to do the job, came back a couple of days later, and -- once again -- did a fast, efficient, reliable and professional job, even hauling away the old cabinet. I came to Yelp to find a painter to fix the mess this handyman had left behind. Well, I should have come to Yelp in the first place . . . I called John at East Bay Painter and told him our situation. He came by our house in an hour and gave us his assessment of what needed to be done and quoted a price cheaper than the stupid handyman from Craigslist. Within a week from his visit, he got a sample from the house to get the matching paint, painted the messed up area for an amazingly affordable price. I never dreamed that I could afford such a professional and pleasant painter for such a reasonable price! After their first visit, Jose creates a proper proposal that lists every job item, they schedule, they come out with a crew, do prep, paint, finish. If they discover dry rot, Eduardo can do the carpentry to fix it. So this is a great team. They are bonded, & they have a 3- year warranty for their work. We had dry rot on our garage door and in the back of our house 9n support beams, so Eduardo came out and repaired a great deal of problematic wood. Bottom line is that did a perfect job. They are nice and they are professional. They come through and keep their word.

We were completely happy with the work he performed. We recently contacted him again to do a complete make over of a 700 sq. ft. space that we use as a guest room. Once again we were completely happy with the work performed by Javier and his excellent crew. The highlight of the work performed was the stunning redo of the bathroom. It was a complete demo of the old bathroom and the results were fantastic. Everyone who has seen it and remembered the old bathroom were amazed at the results. Some specific highlights of the work performed on the project: All of the workers Javier used on the project were outstanding. They were, polite, skilled and cooperative. Javier was always available at critical points in the project. We were especially impressed with the painting that was done. It was equal to that of any painting contractor. They always completely cleaned up and hauled away all trash. Not a trivial item. They performed several tasks that were not included in the work order. In one case a sofa bed delivered by Ikea for the room was left unassembled even though we had paid Ikea to do so. (still have not resolved this with Ikea). Javier's workers put it together for us. In another case; we had ordered carpeting from Home Depot and they were to move the furniture out of the room and remove the old carpeting. They showed up a day late with only one installer. It was clear that one person was not going to be able to do all of that. The installer left without notice even though Javier's crew offered to help him. In order to keep on schedule Javier's crew removed the old carpet and moved all of the furniture out of the room. Home Depot did show up the next day with 2 installers and because they didn't have to any other work got the carpet installed. Probably would not use them again. Javier flipped my kitchen and two bathrooms. His guys were good with framing but terrible with…read moreplumbing. In the upstairs bathroom, they had a problem with the toilet flange, and then poof! Problem solved! 5 years later, the flange was leaking and the ceiling downstairs is dripping. The toilet was glued to the floor with RTV and that was hiding a massive leak! Turns out they shoved in two wax rings on top of each other, and there was a cone that restricted the drain down to about 3". The cone prevented a flush from dropping immediately down the drain, and the wax ring sandwich leaked! The cone also caused a lot of clogs over the years. Now I have an almost $6,000 plumbing repair, I have to patch my ceiling, and I have a mold issue! There's never time to do it right, but there's always time to do it twice! I also found old cans of Modelo in my attic after the flip!
