    Damaged wood
    Alan F.

We were facing a significant home surgery and had to take a leap of faith, and Nelson delivered. He comes highly recommended! A rite of passage for new homeowners is to deal with a major repair. Less than a year after moving in, heavy rains led to water from outside making its way inside without invitation. Noticing some damaged wood that was likely to blame, we called on Nelson to help. Of the various contractors we solicited for quotes, Nelson was the most through and punctual. And throughout, Nelson and team were reliable, communicative and provided expert work for a job which started as a "minor" siding repair but expanded (to our dismay) in scope as increasing amounts of rotting, structural wood from the previous owner was uncovered. Although it was disconcerting to see how much damage we would need to address, Nelson was sympathetic and assured us that it would be straightforward to fix and advised on a couple of different approaches, which we agreed to. His team arrived on time every day and worked around weather conditions to perform carpentry, waterproofing, and offered continuous updates. We also hired Nelson's team to paint afterwards, and are very happy with the results. By the end we started dreaming about other projects or repairs we could accomplish and started getting his feedback on those as well! One thing we learned is that it's necessary to make sure the discussions are thoroughly documented-we had a couple of misunderstandings about what was included or not after verbal discussions, which we either resolved through the contract, or realized after the fact that it was something discussed but never written down so we let it go. But making the agreement itself was a breeze, and Nelson is good humored, flexible and was easy to work with at all of the stages of the process. We would certainly work with him on future repairs.

    Before the remodel

Nelson and his crew recently did a bathroom remodel for us, and the results are stunning. The bathroom was a '50's era in desperate need of an update. His pricing was good, and he and his crew worked wonders in a timely fashion, all the while keeping things clean and being very considerate along the way. I would highly recommend his services for whatever project may need done - a true jack of all trades!

After interviewing multiple contractors, G Family stood out immediately as the only team that came on site, dug into the details, and worked to understand our intent--not just replicate the designs. Their honest, up-front pricing was a major differentiator. We received a clear, comprehensive estimate with everything included, while other bids had many "TBD" items that weren't part of the real number. When I factored in those gaps, G Family was very competitive. They were also incredibly collaborative in helping dial in the details: when certain elements exceeded our budget, they provided practical alternatives and helped create a phased plan so we could add features later. Execution matched the planning. Communication was clear, updates were frequent, and when inevitable snags arose, they took the time to explain options and trade-offs. They even diplomatically guided me away from a bad design choice using their experience--absolutely the right call in hindsight. They also handled HOA-required changes without billing extra or anything like that. G Family isn't the cheapest, but the value is worth it. They were accountable, invested, and genuinely treated the project like it was their own backyard. Beyond the craftsmanship, they're just great, down-to-earth people to work with. Our once-underutilized yard is now a beautiful outdoor living space we use every day. I highly recommend G Family Construction!

When it came time to remodel our mid-century modern home we interviewed and received proposals from…read moresix different contractors. Most of the contractors gave us very brief proposals with just a total cost and very little documentation. In contrast, Jon from G Family inspected our house inside and out, reviewed the architectural plans, then put together a thoroughly professional bid that clearly detailed all aspects of the project with their specific costs. His attention to detail made G Family an easy choice. It was a pleasure working with the G Family team, especially Jon, co-owner, Angeleah, interior design consultant, Sunil, our project manager and Juan, the tile foreman. The entire G Family team was very professional, punctual and courteous as well as dedicated to producing a quality product. Jon and Sunil were very responsive when questions arose about the project. G Family's professional experience really paid off. We had to deal with several code upgrades and town building department requirements. Jon devised creative solutions that addressed the issues without significantly impacting the cost or schedule. Because they are a full-service contractor, G Family was able to guide us through many of the project details. This helped reduce the stress of all the decisions that needed to be made. Despite warnings from friends and neighbors that a major remodel like ours would go over schedule and cost at least double the original quote, the project finished on time and within our budget. We are extremely pleased with our "new" home and so happy that we chose G Family to do our remodel. We highly recommend them. We would not hesitate to work with them on future projects.

Green Bay Remodeling was the highest bid by 20-50%. We selected Green Bay because they pitched themselves as a turnkey solution and I would simply sit back and just make payments. In reality I needed to be involved constantly to keep this project on track. A few examples: - Sourcing: In the sales meeting, we were told that materials would be sourced by them from their "catalog" and shipped from "their warehouse". I liked the simplicity of that, but in reality, they order things from online vendors like Wayfair and Home Depot and shipped directly to my home. This turned my garage space into their warehouse for nearly 2 months. Also, it is just bad business to ship heavy, breakable things - for example, we had 2 toilets delivered to our home in giant packages - both of which were broken on arrival. (there's a hardware store less than a mile from my home that has toilets in stock) - Communication: We were promised daily updates, this did happen once the construction work started because they often wanted a payment, but we went for long times not hearing during planning process. - Timeline was set by PM as 4 weeks from sign date for permits and planning (closer to 8 weeks due to absences and avoidable omissions on permit application) and 4 weeks for construction (that was met with multiple issues and creative workarounds deployed). - Presence: We understood the PM would be present on the site and would be the main point of contact, but he was missing at key times - including during an inspection with the city permitting department - Attention to detail: Materials were sourced late or incorrectly (a 60 inch vanity ordered rather than 72inch) and broken materials were not identified immediately. We made the construction timeline but only with some creative solutions and lots of legwork. Overall, the guys at GBR are nice, charming people and the finished product looks good. But I give that credit to the amazing sub-contractor who completed the entire project. He covered for their issues and went out of his way to solve problems so that the finished product looked amazing and was finished on time. I would give this person a 5 star review, but I would not engage GBR in the future as this does not reflect value for money.

BACKGROUND: We wanted bookshelves installed above a built-in cabinet unit in our living room. I sent Jitendra a sketch and described what we wanted. From my chicken-scratch sketch, he created a design and mock-up, then measured our space. While measuring, he flagged all existing flaws in the space (uneven/slanted walls) so that we were aware of all inconsistencies upfront. He has amazing attention to detail! RESULTS: We were simply blown away by how well he was able to match the custom shelves to our existing unit; all of the wood looks like it was manufactured at the same time! It truly looks like it was all constructed as one piece from the very beginning, which is exactly what we wanted. In addition, we really appreciate that he took initiative to incorporate crown molding/extra detail on the top of the shelving unit. This is something that I would never have thought to do. WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE HIM: There's good reason why the word "artisan" is in the name of this business. He goes above and beyond on quality, service, and workmanship, AND he's very personable, patient, and kind. I HIGHLY recommend working with Jitendra and his crew; worth every penny!
