High HVAC Company I want to share my experience so others can do their due diligence. I obtained a quote from this company and ran into multiple problems: Extremely high pricing for HVAC units -- the numbers changed multiple times without clear explanation. Vague communication on duct cleaning: I asked specifically whether the $950 duct cleaning included HEPA filtration, negative pressure, and whip brushes, but I was not given a clear answer -- only that they "have a 25-foot hose." Dehumidifier confusion: The HVAC company recommended buying a $3,500 AprilAire dehumidifier without assessing what was actually needed, and this tied into their recommendation for an encapsulation company that didn't even go under the house, doesn't use dehumidifiers, and would not have addressed key crawlspace issues. This seemed potentially unsafe and poorly advised. Additional costs not disclosed upfront: Sealing ducts in the crawlspace was listed as extra, but no clear pricing was provided. Encapsulation timing recommendation: I was told I needed to encapsulate last, which contradicted other expert advice and seemed poorly timed for the best outcome. Overall, the experience was frustrating due to vagueness, inconsistent pricing, and lack of transparency on key technical details, particularly around duct cleaning and the unnecessary dehumidifier. I recommend anyone considering this company to do your due diligence and research, ask very specific questions, confirm all costs upfront, and verify technical procedures before proceeding. read more

WG Speeks has given us very good service and I would highly recommend them. They are very respectful of your property, wearing coverup booties inside. Very Happy with them!! read more

I had been in my home for over 30 years without central air. We had one window unit. I don't know why I waited so long to write this review. W.G. Speeks changed my life. The air in my home is so much better and the new furnace is great. They came in July right when the weather was extremely hot. We were suffering. When they left, I didn't want to leave the house. It felt so good. I would recommend W.G. Speeks to anyone. Denise E.W. read more

I have been a customer for almost 4 yrs and my technician was nice. However, customer support is awful. It's taken several phone calls to resolve a billing discrepancy and I kept getting the run around. Earlier, I was told on the phone that part of the service was not done for lack of time and now they denied saying that and insist it was, when there is no evidence to support it. Things are great when you don't ask questions and pay. As soon as you ask questions, they are not so nice anymore. I can no longer recommend and will never use again. If I could give them a zero, I would. read more

On the first truly hot day of the year our upstairs AC stopped working midafternoon. We called around and the only availability was after hours repair if we wanted same day. I've used Speeks before so even with an increased rate we agreed to have them out. To be clear, the service tech was great, this is an issue with company policy. Tech showed up and quickly found the issue and repaired it. Only issue here is we were not told what the issue was or asked if we wanted it fixed right then nor given a cost estimate. Speeks told us their after hours rate for the first 30 minutes (minimum fee) and then they charge quarterly. We were anticipating a charge somewhere around or below $200. When the work was complete it was over $300! I asked for a breakdown and was told any parts added after hours also come with a 10% markup. I DO have issue with that as I'm sure there is already profit built into the parts they use. Paying more for a tech after hours makes total sense to me. Marking up the cost of equipment is price gouging. Also had we known we likely would have stopped after the diagnosis and paid regular rate for parts and repair the next morning. I was in the market for a new HVAC company and had referred Speeks to others in the past. Instead I will find another company and will share this story. My previous experience with them was always customer first; now it seems they are profit focused. read more

The quality of the customer service was above and beyond what I had hoped. They had originally installed our air conditioning system 17 years ago. We had used their annual check up for a number of years, but let it lapse. We re-engaged with them, and they did excellent service. Thank you so much for the great work, y'all! read more

Will never use again. They lied about what the service person did He said that my air condition couldn't be fixed and need to be replaced. It was fixed by another company I was charged for what he said he did but did not do. read more

You might get lucky, but I would look somewhere else. Totally depends on the Technician you get. Some are ok, some are very, very bad. Speeks has done two installs for me. The first stopped working the same night and they had to send the installer back out after hours due to sub-freezing temps. They have been back multiple times since then due to the system leaking in my crawl space. Second install broke/leaked in less than two years due to shoddy soldering of the filter dryer line ($700 repair). One year warranty had just expired, and couldn't get any accommodation even though their install was bad. They don't really stand behind the work of their technicians. read more

I called WG Speeks when I woke up to find that my air conditioner was no longer putting out cold air. A technician, Chris, came out the same day I put in a call for service at the busiest time of the year. He was courteous, kind and professional. In addition, his recommendation of replacement ended up saving us money rather than recharging our dying system to no avail. When another rep came out the next day to verify our HVAC system design was sound, we were not oversold on additional equipment or services. All in all they were trustworthy, efficient and responsive to our needs. read more

I had a house built in 2017 and the ac/heat unit was installed by W.G.Speeks. We had several issues early to correct the undersized unit and they somewhat fixed it. Now its two years later and I came home to a cold house. I called them about the problem. They told me the unit is under warranty. Sounds good right??? The dispatcher called me and said it could be fixed in 7 mins and it would cost me $320.00. Thats unreasonable. The dispatcher was rude and thought it was funny that I had such a easy problem to fix and that they would make $320.00 off of me. Do yourself a favor and call around before you use this place. Im getting the same work done by Stanley Quality Systems for half the price. read more

If I could give this company 0 stars I would. Please use my experience as a warning for what you could potentially deal with when using this company. I called WG Speeks on a Monday morning when I woke up to a freezing house and a totally blank thermostat. A technician arrived at my home around 9:30am and proceeded to run 'diagnostic tests'. After about an hour, he determined that my heat pump in the attic had a short. After 2 more hours of searching for the short he explained that I would need a new electrical board for the heat pump. He had to leave to retrieve the parts and returned telling me the part was still under warranty which was great. After an hour he was still installing and I had to leave for a funeral so I told him to continue while I was gone and call me when he was finished. The technician finally called me at 4:40pm (7hrs total!) saying he had just left my house and that I was only getting emergency heat because my system still had a short somewhere. He left an invoice stating that I needed yet another electrical board replaced at my outdoor unit and that my thermostat needed to be replaced and that I should call back and schedule more service. The next day I had my relative who happens to be in the HVAC business come check out my situation and give me a second opinion. My cousin located the actual short and fixed the problem in 15 minutes!! I called WG Speeks the next day to inquire about the invoice and let them know they diagnosed the problem wrong. After multiple phone calls with my second technician, myself, and my father, the service manager Scott refused to come down at all on the bill ($497) for 7 hours of labor for work that did not need to be done and a problem that took a well-educated technician 15 minutes to fix. Don't let this company give you the runaround like they did with me. In my personal opinion they are dishonest and inept. read more

We will never use this company again. Paid extra for a call on Sunday. This got us nothing other than a diagnosis as they didn t have the parts to fix it that day and were unprepared to do so. Diagnosed it wrong as it turns out. Charged us twice for labor even though they should have been doing all the work at one time if diagnosed correctly. No one with authority will talk with you--forced to deal with a dispatcher with no authority. Cowardly and unprofessional way to handle customers. Did nothing to get parts covered by warranty like they said they would. We had to do all the work. Didn't return our calls so work went a day longer than necessary. Would never use again. read more

WG Speeks went out of their way to fix our air conditioning problem. They showed exemplary customer service and went out of their way to provide an interim solution for our blown out motor while they were awaiting the right parts. The parts they ordered to fix our AC weren't going to arrive till after the weekend so in order for us to not have to get through the weekend in extreme heat they got us parts from another functioning unit in their warehouse, installed them into our unit and got our AC up and running. They will then return again on Monday, to install the new parts that will go in permanently, once they arrive. The passion that they showed to address a customer's concern was much appreciated! read more

I called and left a message for a non-emergency call at 9 PM on a Sunday night, and the tech was out there by 1 PM on Monday. Clark was courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable. Will always use this company! read more

The woman who answers the phones is highly unprofessional. She can barely contain her rage. She's abrupt, sighs while you talk and slams the phone down without so much as a goodbye. If she's the face of this company, I'm not going to let one of them into my house! read more

I spoke with Mrs. Marian at WG Speeks on Tuesday morning and informed her of the poor service and lack of communication we received from another HVAC company. She was very attentive to my needs and empathetic to what were going through. She informed me they were busy and it would take "some time" for WG Speeks to get out to us. Expecting at least a 2 week wait, Mr. Freddie was ringing my door bell 2 days later. He was polite, professional and informative throughout the entire process. Completely different from the horrible service we received in the past. I would recommend WG Speeks to anyone that is having HVAC issues when it feels like 102 degrees in Richmond, as it is today. Marian and Freddie are 2 very valuable assets to your company. Thank you to both and we look forward to stellar service in the future. Thank you again for ensuring you have trained professionals who are not in the business of taking advantage of people, but doing what is right. read more

BUYER BEWARE! In this letter that I unfortunately had to compile, you will read about what injustice our family has had to endure. I will outline the specifics of how, when, where, and who is responsible for the destruction of our home, property, valuables, physical and mental health. First, here is the definition of the Consumer Protection Law: Laws designed to protect consumers against unfair trade and credit practices involving faulty and dangerous goods or dishonest claims or tactics. In April 2017, a new air conditioning unit was installed at our residence by W.G. Speeks, Inc. In September 2017, the thermostat connected to our air conditioning unit registered at a humidity level of 62%. W.G. Speeks was contacted immediately that there was a problem with our ac unit. A W.G Speeks technician visited to our residence. Upon several inspections, it was reported that the ac unit was not properly installed. Within the same time-frame, it was discovered that black toxic mold was growing throughout our duct system, and it became visible to the naked eye on the 3rd floor ceiling and in the vents throughout the house. Our family began showing symptoms of the following: Chronic Sinus Problems, Nosebleeds, Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis, Mold-Induced Asthma, Skin Infections, & Neurological Problems. The air quality in our home was tested immediately, and the results indicated significantly elevated toxic mold levels. Here is a brief timeline of the events that have proceeded since September 2017. · We were advised to leave our residence immediately and not return until there a full mold remediation had been completed. Once testing confirmed no mold was present we could move back into our home · Although, the ac unit was brand new and under warranty for parts, service, and labor (for one year), W.G. Speeks refused to replace or fix our unit · W.G. Speeks relinquished all liability and instructed us to contact their insurance provider, Penn National · After a thorough inspection by ECS (Engineering Consulting Services) of our home and the contents in our residence, all porous/semi porous materials had to be removed and discarded · All clothes, shoes, mattresses, pillows, curtains, sofas, chairs, holiday decorations, personal items, family heirlooms, & carpets were taken out of the home and destroyed · The family (2 adults, 2 teenagers, and 2 dogs) sought medical care. It was determined that each family member was diagnosed with CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome). This illness is directly correlated to a biotoxin induced illness. We are currently under medical care · After the home was tested "mold free" we were able to move back into the home in April 2018. ( We had been out of our residence for7 months) · In April-May, we had two other carrier certified HVAC companies evaluate the systems and perform coolant leak repairs, fix incorrect installer thermostat settings and add refrigerant levels that we lost to the leak. Since the unit was oversized for our home there was a possibility that all the repairs might not fix the issue · The ac unit ran for approximately 24 hours before condensation began developing in the ducts and leaking through the air vents · We contacted Penn National to have our ac unit replaced · Penn National & Speeks refused to replace the unit and their attorney sent us a letter that stated, "We were not allowed to repair or make modifications to our ac unit." · We have filed a motion with our attorney to please allow us to replace the ac unit ourselves, which was denied and reported to us, "that would result in tampering of evidence." · Our house has reached 95 degrees. Two adults, 2 teenagers and 2 dogs are residing in this residence. We have 4 portable ac units in each bedroom and 5 dehumidifiers running that cost us 210.00 a day to rent It has been 10 months since this ordeal began and we are still dealing with all of this at our own personal expense. read more

Called W.G. Speeks May 1, 2017. Got an appointment for friday May 5, 2017, for early afternoon. Was told they would call about 30 minutes prior to coming. I waited and waited no phone call, my phone has no missed calls nor voice mails that they tried to call. At 2:51pm I called the office and told the gentleman on the phone that I have heard nothing and what was the deal? He looked my name up and said that I was still on the schedule for today and they would get to me. At 5:20 I called them and pressed 2 for emergency, got there call service and the lady said she would page a technician. My phone rang within minutes of hanging up with there call service. I told the tech the problem with my heat pump and he stated they tried "SEVERAL TIMES to call me today and since they couldn't contact me they put me at the bottom of the list". And that they would come out tomorrow, Saturday at $125.00 for every 30 minutes. I informed him that my phone (and i can prove it with Verizon) shows no missed calls or voice mails and that was no way to do business. He said "someone can come out tomorrow at that price or for me to call somebody else". I told him Im gonna leaving a bad review he said go ahead and I hung up. The really bad thing is (and the secretary that took my phone call Monday can verify this) is that if I needed a new heatpump (which I have been told I do, mine is 15 years old 2 ton and trying unsuccesfully to cool about 1800 sq. ft.) I was going to get the Carrier Hybrid Heat System one since I have 200 gallons of propane and added a very large room addition that I am cooling with a window unit at this time because my current heatpump isnt big enough. Add it up, according to what other people online paid I was expecting to pay $8000.00 to $15000.00 I also need duct work done. And like I said the nice lady that took my phone call Monday could verify that because I told her thats what i wanted. Instead of reading reviews on here (Yelp) I listened to thier tv commercials...bad bad bad. Now I have to wait for another hvac company to come which my mom uses which also is very nice to do business with but they are a TRANE dealer, and I wanted a CARRIER system. A copy of this review is also being sent to CARRIER to notify them they lost a customer due to WG Speeks. read more
