AC was set at 70. Never got cooler than 73 and that was only because the downstairs unit was cooling both floors. Excelsior came and charged me $477. It did not help. They returned and said it was working. I called another company for a second opinion. They said there was a leak in the refrigerant coil. They fixed it. An honest and great company/service. I was looking around for someone to help replace our furnace heater because ours randomly shut down one weekend. We already had two other companies come out and diagnosed our furnace which they confirmed that it was indeed..."broken". I can't help but first say that this company is now (and forever) my go to people when it comes to our HVAC (and what they are able product and services they offer). I had gotten the referral from my boss and decided to go ahead and get my ticket in. I EMAILed them and they responded back within (or even less than) 30 minutes! Elizabeth was so helpful and friendly with my situation on the furnace and told me that one of their guys would be available to check it out and to give us an estimate of what their service would be to replace it. They were very accommodating with my schedule because I wasn't going to be available until after 3pm that day. Jesse was the person who came and checked out our "broken" furnace and to give us an estimate. Their communication was wonderful, Jesse texted me when he was 10 mins away. I was so sure our furnace was broken because we had two diagnostic done on the furnace to confirm that it was INDEED...broken. I told Jesse of our situation and what the results of the last two reviews. I s*** you not....he fixed it. We had freaking heat for the evening and the following week. Our gas furnace is about 20 years old and was told by two other companies that it was broken and needed to be fixed and maybe even the AC too! Jesse was so helpful explaining to me of what he found and fixed (and I actually understood him! haha). He was so professional and so helpful in our situation. Long review short - because of our furnace breaking down the first time and that we have an 8 month old, we decided to get it replaced. Both Elizabeth and Jesse from the company had great communications in helping us set up a date and answering any other questions that we may have had. We seriously got very lucky with finding these wonderful people and company. Anyways, they gave us a date and time. (Helped me out and) showed up earlier than expected to get started on the replacement. Their team was very friendly, professional, and funny to work/talk to. They replaced our furnace within a reasonable time and told me of what is to be expected on turning on a new furnace. Overall, my experience with this company for the past week has been very pleasant and gave me a peace of mind of my home. I could not have asked for anyone better. These guys will be replacing my AC once that gives in as well - haha. These guys are definitely a keeper and I would highly recommend this to anyone in the Glen Allen/Richmond area. August 2022 my air unit in my rental was leaking adherent. I had an employee named Eric (I may not have the right name) who was so incredibly informative. He was so nice and answered my questions on how to avoid this issue in the future. He taught me how to clean the air filter and explained how this problem originated in the first place! I've been really impressed with Excelsior air's service and have had them out on two separate occasions now. They are always very easy to reach, super helpful, and punctual on their service calls. We've used this company for years so we were shocked by the level of customer service we received today! We called last night and left a voicemail to see about service today. We were contacted and told 1-5pm and then at 3pm contacted and told the technician was running late and wouldn't arrive till after 5pm and therefore we would be charged after hours rates!! I had written the company after their employee Justin came out to diagnose my loss of pressure on the hot water side. He determined that flushing the system, for $125.00 would take care of the problem. I spoke to him while he was working on it and quickly discovered that he did not understand how the system worked, but he had already begun flushing so I let him continue. Flushing did not take care of the problem. He spent some time on the phone with the heater's maker, and then diagnosed the problem as a valve, which he could replace for $545.00. That would be fine with me, but since he had already diagnosed it wrong once, and then charged me $125.00, even though his diagnosis and repair had not worked, I was a bit concerned. So before continuing with the $545.00 repair, I wanted to make sure that he was sure, and that the company would stand behind its work this time. So before authorizing the work I wrote to the company: "I liked Justin, and he was very professional, but with that said, I quickly realized that I knew more about the system than he did. Using the books I had, and speaking with Navian support he diagnosed the problem. I am happy to pay the fee to get my system back to working properly, but several things that he did concerned me greatly that he would create more problems than he cured. (changing settings etc.. that have been working fine for about 8 years) I do not mean this as a reflection on Justin, it is just that all of the systems here are supersized and relatively unusual, and I have had numerous contractors create more problems that they solved here. If you are quite confident of his diagnosis, and will guarantee that this will get me back up and running properly, I don't hesitate to hire your services. Are you that confident in Justin and his diagnosis?" To my surprise, this is the company's response: "We are not prepared to make any guarantees about the operation of your unit moving forward. The unit has run 8 years with improper settings (dipswitched for internal recirculation), which will cause premature wear of heat exchanger and parts, especially when coupled with failure to service/flush the unit according to manufacturer specifications. Given you are more knowledgeable on the equipment than us, I'm guessing you will have no problem verifying diagnosis and making repairs as you see fit." Note the mention of the dip switches set wrong, that itself was part of the problem, the dip switches were set correctly, and had been working correctly for eight years. Yet he had changed them without my permission, and after he left I found that he had not turned the re-circulation back on, which I had to correct. These people were nice and professional, however they lack the experience to work on complex systems (my home is 7400 sq. Feet) For simple leaks, stopped drains etc.. I am sure that they would be fine. However that they would want to replace parts to the tune of $545.00, but had no confidence that it would solve the problem, (ie.. confident with my money, but not their own) nor would they stand behind the work leads me to believe you can do better elsewhere. read more

I rarely ever leave reviews but this is warranted. Lead Technician is fantastic, consultative, and professional. However, this is a company-first, client-second organization with poor communication and not willing to reason with you to continue a business/client relationship. The definition of a small-business. They even offered a complimentary tune-up but have since not returned any of my 2 phone calls and 2 emails over a 10-day span. If you're HVAC is acting up, they're not worth the headache. read more

Zach always goes above and beyond to explain what service he has performed and any potential work that he thinks may need to be performed. My call was handled so politely and professionally , with a call back mid-morning to let me know the technician might be late. He was, but only 5 minutes. Definitely found a keeper! It took 4 service calls to repair a mini split system. I have $3215.50 in this repair for labor, refrigerant. and 4 valves. Minus $315 for R-410A. $2900.50 no price on the valves 13 hours of labor. $223.16 /hour for labor if you leave out the valves. I had to buy another new indoor unit myself which the owner could not source himself. When I called to get a breakdown of the bill, I got an evasive e-mail from Jesse, describing how competitive the market was, etc., but no explanation of how he arrived at that price. I pressed him further by e-mail since he would not call me back. This is when it got bizarre. His 4 e-mails became insulting and he threatened to "put you on notice that if you purjure yourself in the marketplace regarding the services that we provided and interfere with commerce I am obligated to take legal action against you". Also, "If you continue to send me emails and or call me I am going to start tracking time and send you a bill for the time spent trying to educate you on proper pricing policy". He finished with "I want you to know that we are going to refuse service if you call back". read more

This evening after work my husband and I came home to a hot house. Our nest shut off and we had no air. I called Jesse who sent out Zach the after hours tech for the day. Not only was Zach knowledgeable and able to fix the problem of a clogged drain but he went out of his way to show us where the problem was and recommended multiple options to fix it. I don't take the time to write as many reviews as I should but I have to say how pleased we were with Jesse and the crew at Excelsior Air in Glen Allen. Our 31-year-old air conditioner finally died and the quote from the company we had been using for service seemed high. It seemed like they were selling us things we hadn't asked for. We called Excelsior and explained what we wanted and the estimate was lower by 33%. Best of all they arrived with three trucks and six guys did all the work (which included replacing some ductwork) in one day. Hard-working and professional, a pretty good combination! read more

I called in the morning and they immediately scheduled an appointment to assess my unit. Excelsior sent texts and Zack called to see if he could come a little early too - the same day I called! He was professional, super friendly and fixed the problem on the spot. What really confirmed that he cared (and knew what he was doing) was that he advised us to shut off our AC in the future if we have a similar concern/issue so we don't risk damaging our compressor unnecessarily (which would end up costing us several thousand bucks). We started working with Excelsior a few years ago when our cooling unit died. Jesse came out personally at that time and reviewed the situation. What made it great was that he came out the day that we called about our situation. It ended up that we needed a new unit and he reviewed all of our options with us. It was obvious from the beginning that he wasn't trying to sell us something we didn't need. Since that time, we've had a few minor issues come up with our units and Excelsior has responded the same day that we contacted them and were able to come out and address the issue quickly. On top of that, they didn't spend time trying to upsell us on some kind of maintenance plan. They did the work and charged a very reasonable rate.
