Courtesy and professionalism. Warm water only, not cold but definitely not as hot as it should be. I thought it was going to be a new hot water heater but Josh was able to troubleshoot the issue to a faulty cartridge in a shower handle. This was our 2nd experience with Gilman--the first was great so we called Gilman to service a heat pump that wasn't working--when we turned the a/c on, the temp would go up rather than down. Since we were paying for a service call, we also wanted a filter changed on 1 unit, and the freon checked in another. The technician was here quite some time & then came with a long list of additional things needing to be done & wrote up several quotes. We didn't ask for "tune-ups" on the units, just the 3 specific items to be done. When he left, he asked if we wanted the units on--we said "no". Later in the day, we needed the a/c, but when we turned it on, the same thing happened-- temp went up instead of down. We had to call back the office--they sent the tech back that afternoon. When he arrived, he said "what's going on?" As we explained that the unit still wasn't working, he was very defensive & said "it was working when I left here" "I tested it". He implied that we had done something to the unit. We told him we thought the thermostat was bad--he checked & said that was the problem. He replaced it & tested it. When he left, his comment was "I don't like call-backs". If he had done the job correctly the first time, we would not have needed a call-back. He was more interested in "selling" more services to us. This experience was very aggravating--we will NOT have Gilman back. We shouldn't have to put up with smart aleck technicians. read more

Jacob was superb - knowledgeable, efficient and comprehensive. However, I was told that the "dispatch fee" would be $76 (it turned out to be $90) and that would be the total cost of the visit, due to our annual service contract. Instead, we were charged an additional $101+, in spite of the fact that no actual service was performed - all just as it was when he left. He checked several aspects of our heat, but made no changes. A very nice man came out and quickly diagnosed a significant problem with my well tank. In doing so, he found a small leak in a pipe in the same utility room. I was with him for literally 3 minutes and he told me the leak would be simple to fix. I just received a bill for $429!! They are a very nice company with ridiculously high prices. TLDR: They tried to charge me $4800 for a job another plumber did for $200. As a new homeowner, I'm not familiar with plumbing. I was so shocked to hear that my 3-year old home that had an inspection one month prior needed a whopping $4800 of plumbing work to address a leak and some pipes that weren't angled right in the crawl space. The two technicians, Pete and Steven, even told me they "had never seen anything like it in 27 years of residential." This is AFTER charging me $580 just to come out. On a whim, I called a second plumber. He assessed the same problem and did the work right on the spot for ~$200. I'm extremely disappointed that businesses like Gilman take advantage of a younger woman homeowner. I'm not one for drama, but this egregious overcharge seemed too blatant not to comment on. If you're anyone, be wary. If you're a woman, expect to get absurdly price gouged. It's really cruel of them and disappointing. read more

Absolute RIP OFF !!!! They'll take advantage of your situation and will rip off as much as they can, not even fixing the problem... We had AC issue, Gilman technician came out and told us that it's an old unit and not worth fixing, but he can do a temporary fix, so he added a freon to it, charged us 1600$ Ac stopped working in two weeks or so, and after I called them and said it stopped working, they said, well, there was a leak so all the Freon probably leaked out Long story short the technician added Freon to the unit even though he knew it would leak out , but he never told us anything about the leak or tried to fix the leak first, which is kinda given, you fix something before you put liquid in it !!!! They offered they would put new unit and take out 1600$ out of it, but then they gave us quote so high, other company did the same job , for couple thousand less.... So yeah, watch out before you consider calling them!!! UPDATE ! Vice president of the company just called me several hours after this review calling me "Winy FUCKING BITCH" for putting this review !!!! Threatening to send me For collection, although I have no idea what is he talking about we paid the bill right away lol .... Gilman installed and maintained our HVAC units for about 12 years at our previous home and did a great job! When we moved to our new home they inspected our HVAC unit and thankfully everything was fine. We wanted a multi-split for our garage and that was installed last week. So excited, it is very quiet and works well for our garage. We never had a need for their plumbing services in the past, however, our new home had a leak in the crawlspace, it was a Saturday, Gilman came out within the hour. Did a great job! A little disappointed with the last service call. It was only supposed to be an estimated visit. After the tech looked at what needed to be done; he gave me a quote. He stated it would be a service fee anyway for coming out so I should go ahead and get the work performed. With the misinformation he provided it sounded like a good idea to do as suggested. It didn't sound right to me based on past service calls. Especially when Laurie told me estimates are free. While the tech was at my home about to get started on the work; I decided to call the office and speak with Laurie to get clarity. The tech rushed in so quickly to get started. I didn't even have an opportunity to stop him after speaking with her. I questioned the service fee and she seemed a little uneasy when I pointed out that in the past on several visits a service fee was never charged. She explained that the past visits were charged but it was incorporated with the repair. I explained it was never itemized that way on any of the invoices. She then advises that the tech was new and it was only supposed to be an estimate if no work was performed. At this point it's too late. I'm thoroughly disappointed in Gilman. read more

I've used Gilman several times for HVAC service at my home. The business is well managed, and it's easy to set up an appointment, even after hours! The technicians are knowledgeable and not only fix the problem, but provide useful information to the homeowner to better maintain their HVAC equipment. Recently, I called Gilman after hours to fix my AC unit. I was called back promptly by a technician, and he came quickly. The unit is working well now, and I appreciated the convenience of getting an appointment so late in the day. We have been good customers of Gilman for several years, but no longer. Last week we had them come to unstop a shower drain. They sent a nice young man (maybe 25 tops) and he was in our home working a little over an hour. The bill? $360. The bill stated that they had changed out 2 faucets, so I called the office and asked them to review it, and they said they would and have a plumbing supervisor call me back. Never got a call, so I called back about 3 days later and was told the same thing. I waiting again -- still no call, so I called back and said I wold hold on the phone until they got someone to talk to me. The person said hold on, and came back after about 5 minutes, where she informed me that the bill was correct and that I could not speak with a supervisor. In todays world I know people are busy, staff is short, etc., but customer service still needs to be delivered and questions answered. The price was outrageous. We were on maintenance plans for AC/Heat as well -- but have cancelled that. This business does not care enough about its customers to even speak on the phone or make callbacks. Don't use them. read more

Gilman installed an HVAC unit in 2005 for the prior owners of our current home. In 2006, those owners moved into a new home and the house sat empty for 2 years, when we bought it in 2008. The unit services only the second floor of the house which consists of 3 bedrooms which are only used when we have guests (which is very infrequent), so for the past 6 years, we have had the unit set high in the summers and low in the winters so as not to heat and cool a large area of the house that is unused. We have never had problems with the unit - it has worked well when needed and therefore we have had to do no repairs. This week, we discovered water running down the outside wall of our house. There are no plumbing pipes in those walls, so we assumed the air handler in the top attic must be having an issue. When our HVAC technician arrived, he found that when Gilman installed the unit, their installer did not properly contain the wires in the unit and put the panel in place - what he found were the low voltage wires connecting the float valves (which control the unit if there is too much water in the pan) sitting in 2" of water. If we hadn't by chance seen the water coming down the side of the house, we would have had an overflow of water coming from the pan down into the ceiling of the entire upstairs of our house. I contacted Gilman because I was upset that the install was handled improperly. I was aware that it had been nine years, but I also knew that the house had been empty for 2 of those years and that we had never had anyone service that handler. After speaking with a very pleasant employee, April, I asked to speak to a manager. I was transferred to the actual principal of their company, Mr. Winston Hancock. I explained politely that I was a bit concerned that I was having to pay someone to fix something that was improperly installed and had not been touched by anyone since their install. He said "lady, we haven't been out there since 2005 and I can't believe you would insinuate that this is somehow our fault when someone else could have done it." He was so inflammatory, that I gave the phone to the HVAC technician who was witnessing my conversation, and he explained to Mr. Hancock that given that the house was only occupied for a year after his company's installation and sat empty for two, either their install failed within that one year and the prior owners called someone to fix something that should have been covered, or this was their original work. After several other verbally abusive statements after I informed my HVAC person that I was just going to file a complaint, Mr. Hancock's response was "you don't even know who you're talking to." Clearly the man gave me his name when he picked up my call - when my HVAC tech told him that we did know to whom we were speaking, he asked our technician if he was "familiar with Lowe's." My tech replied he was and Mr. Hancock told him (and I quote) "then drive over to one and buy a bag of sand and pound on it." Then hung up on him. He went on to state that Mr. Hancock was SO rude that he wasn't even able to tell him that the rest of the install looked very good, just that it appeared that they left the job to test the system with the intent of finishing and probably just forgot. When discussing this with my husband, my point was that whether or not they were agreeable to provide some sort of help with the cost of the repairs was of a small concern compared to the absolutely appalling way both the technician and myself were treated by the owner. As a person whose husband and father both own small business, I am shocked that anyone would treat anyone - customer or not - in such an unprofessional, rude, and derogatory manner. If he had kindly said "I understand your concerns and maybe it was the fault of our technician, but after 9 years, I don't think we can help you" I might have been slightly irritated but would have accepted that decision and moved on; however, that was not the case and after being verbally berated and embarrassed to see the same happen to another HVAC professional in my home, I felt compelled to let others know that you should beware of using their company - the customer service from the owner is absolutely atrocious. As a follow up: I just spoke with the prior owners and they confirmed that they did not have anyone out to service that unit prior to moving or during the time that it was vacant in 2006-2008. read more

Several issues with this company: erroneous quote, careless plumber, and unprofessional office staff. We had this group out for the first time after our preferred plumbing company was bought out by them. When I called the office to schedule the repair, I was careful to describe removing a pedestal sink and installing a new vanity with new faucets. They gave me a price quote, which I confirmed included everything, including taking away the old sink. When the plumber arrived, he told me the office hadn't told them there was any work other than swapping out faucets. In speaking to the office, they essentially accused me of lying. (Isn't there a better way to handle this, e.g. "I am so sorry there was a misunderstanding?") The new quote was five times the first one, which I thought was considerably higher than the old company would have charged. However, I proceeded with the installation since they were already there to save me further aggravation. To top it off, the plumber was quite careless in his work. He was dripping water all over our antique wood floors until I pointed it out. He then proceeded to do work (cutting pipe?) on top of a handmade Oriental rug, until I caught him and made him stop.
