My car suddenly was not working on the freeway around Downey area and I had no choice but tow it to the nearest mechanic as it's expensive to tow it back home where I live. AAA finally helped me find Westwerk German Auto who was kind enough to take a look at the car given it was Friday afternoon before Veterans Day. After they did an investigation and it had to do the water pump which was just changed like two months ago. They said it should be under warranty if that's the case. I contacted my mechanic back home and see if it's on warranty which it turned out to be. So the cheapest way was to tow the car back to my mechanic and had it covered by the warranty. During the process to find the most economic way to fix the car, Travis and Wally were so helpful and willing to help however they could. I got tired of talking to people who don't know what they're talking about at McKenna Porsche, so I bring my 991.1 to Travis and Wally (master tech) at Westwerk instead. Between the two of them, amazing wealth of knowledge and experience. No wait to schedule my appointment. When I emailed Travis, he said he had availability the next day if I came in soon enough. Wally did my major service (40k, 8 years) including oil and brakes. Cost was probably 30-50% less than dealership, depending on the individual service. They love Porsches, but will work on pretty much any German car. I don't want to speak for them on makes outside of the Deutschland. I came here because they have an outstanding yelp rating, it's too bad my experience wasn't outstanding. I brought in my Audi A4. The first thing I noticed was how small it was! I don't care for that though, as long as my Audi is taken good care of. I wanted the following to be done: Inspection, tune up, diagnose/fix noise on the passenger front wheel while in motion. After the inspection, they concluded that my axle was what was making the noise. Bill said that after the initial test drive, it would make a "click" sound upon turning, I highly don't recall that after driving the car for 2 months, and I know how a bad axle sounds/ reacts, because my other car is going through that. However, they showed me the old axle and it did look busted. They found a problem with my brake system, the vacuum pump. Ok, good. The tune up consisted of oil change, "top all fluids", and all these filters for $650. Yikes. Okay now onto the bad: After paying $1,800, I got in the car and drove off, that SAME noise on the passenger side was present. After paying nearly 2 grand just to listen to that same noise...how disappointing. I went to have lunch and came back. Also the brake pedal was applying some sort of feedback towards my foot. It felt pretty scary. To be fair though, it's safe to assume the brake system was stronger now due to the vacuum pump fix, hence why the old rotors started to give me trouble. Furthermore, Rene told me that Bill was going to do one final test drive before confirming everything was ready. I guess he didn't catch that..... Bill diagnosed it (took him a while) and concluded that my brake rotors were bad. I was surprised they didn't catch something as basic as the brakes during the inspection. This made me question many things, like the timing belt. I honestly felt compelled to have everything rechecked due to the brakes being overlooked. Bill insisted that the noise from the passenger front wheel was the tire...WRONG! It was the wheel bearing. Pretty upsetting that the noise wasn't noted during the initial test drive. The noise is so obvious! I took the car to our family mechanic (should have to begin with, but he's a busy fellow) and he did a more thorough inspection because he found a few other parts that needed replacement. He even showed me the busted wheel bearing. The Audi is great now. read more

2007 Audi A4 A bit difficult to get an appointment. The work I had was good, though hard to judge on a simple oil change. I was a little put off by the lack of an actual service invoice, they just had me write my info on a note pad. The location is kinda dumpy but that's fine because I'd rather not pay for the "Quattro Cafe" at the Audi dealership. My AC strangely went out shortly after this oil change. I couldn't get an appointment at Westwerk for two weeks so I went to German Auto Parts & Service (see my positive yelp review). Turns out the AC power was disconnected and its not the kind of thing that just comes out. I kinda doubt it was intentionally disconnected by Westwerk and to be fair, I never gave them a chance to defend themselves. I just had a much better experience with German Auto Parts & Service so I decided to make them my shop of choice. July 2011 update: As follow up, Westwerk emailed me to follow up as you can see from their comment so kudos to them for trying to make this right. Up to three stars for what it matters. read more

The CEL, Check Engine Light, presented on the dashboard of my Porsche 996 Carrera about two weeks ago. I don't have to tell you what that feels like, as most of us already know it means $$$ of repair. Nevertheless, I had to start searching for an independent Porsche technician, as from experience, the dealerships overcharge for mediocre service. After reading David C.'s glowing review of Westwerk, I decided to give West werk a go at it. From the beginning, my conversations with Renee put me at ease about their service, and instilled confidence with their technicians. She was very courteous and informed on the matter of my 996. I have a code scanner/reader and had scanned my 996 prior to calling Renee. The code I read was, "P1640, O2S ahead of catalytic converter cyl. 1-3." I requested a quote, from Renee, to replace the one oxygen sensor per my scanner code. Renee quoted approximately $287.00 for the OEM part and labor, which was far less than the Porsche dealership. However, Renee had some reservations about ordering the part for the repair, as she could not find the error code I stated with a matching description of the malfunction. She invited me to bring my 996 into Westwerk to have their technicians give the vehicle a thorough once over. I agreed to drop off my 996 for their inspection. Upon arriving at Westwerk, I was honestly surprised. I had expected a rather large facility with marble tiles and granite counters. I have no idea why I expected this. Perhaps living in Orange County and watching too much HGTV led me to such expectations. Westwerk is a Spartan establishment. They really do keep it simple. But looks can be deceiving as their shop had quite a few Porsches; some undergoing repair, and some waiting for service. In my opinion, the true measure of any repair facility is the amount of vehicles present. Each vehicle represents an owner who has the utmost confidence in the facility to repair/maintain their finely engineered machines. I felt no hesitation in leaving my 996 in their capable hands. Well, fast forward about three days later. Renee called and stated they were unable to find anything related to my CEL incidence. After retaining my vehicle for three days and performing extensive testing and observations, they did not observe another CEL presenting itself. All four of my O2 sensors were fully functional. There was no need to replace any of them. My Mass Air Flow sensor, MAF, was also tested, and was found to be in excellent working condition. Westwerk technicians concluded it may have been an isolated incidence. The code P1640 I had scanned previously, related to an Engine Control Module, ECM, malfunction. Westwerk could not duplicate the CEL error code and so did not advise changing out the ECM for the time being. I picked up my 996 and paid the $95.00 diagnostic fee. Renee stated if the CEL presented itself again, Westwerk would perform the diagnostics once more without an additional charge. I drove my 996 home with renewed confidence in my vehicle, and it performed quite well if I might add. I should not have to tell you all that I was very pleased with the whole matter. If I had taken my Porsche 996 to the dealer, their technicians would have recommended the replacement of all four O2 sensors, then the MAF, and of course the ECM. It's not their money, so it's easy to make such recommendations. Overall, I was very satisfied with Westwerk's professional service and would highly recommend their services to anyone I meet. read more

My husband and I both get our cars serviced at Westwerk. We own a BMW M5 and a Porsche boxster and ever since we've taken them to Renee and Chris they run like a dream. Not only are Renee and Chris lovely people they are incredible professional. Our first experience at Westwerk was when we took my little porshe in for a check up and an oil change. Chris went over the car with a fine tooth comb and tweaked a few little things that needed seeing too. Before the service I told them I could hear a strange sound from the car and thought it might be the cooling fan. Sadly I was correct there was a problem with the cooling fan, so I got ready to dish out the cash for a new one. But thanks to Chris I was able to save lots of money, as it was just some wiring which was hitting the cooling fan. He mended the wiring and now everything works like clock work. I told myself I would give it one more try to find someone who could remove my problem message; "ENTRY POSITION, DO NOT DRIVE." Boy! I wish I had found them years ago! These fellas know their way around a Mercedes! My car spent the greater part of the summer at different shops as I tried to remove a message that no-one could eliminate until I took it to Travis at Westwerk German Auto. Their clean shop was full of Porches and other German cars. Don't get duped by unscrupulous dealers, go straight to Westwerk. Mercedes Benz of Long Beach wanted to experiment and charge me $3,600 to replace a part that ultimately was not the problem. I recently purchased a 2011 Audi A5 Quattro in October w/ almost 100K miles and so far I have been to Westwerk 3 times, twice for maintenance/oil change and once when my check engine light came on causing my car to go into a safety mode where i couldn't exceed 40MPH. I took my 2000 328ci to bill for a few issues I was having. Rather than overcharging me or performing unnecessary work, bill fixed the problem ( which took just a couple minutes ) and only charged me for the minimum diagnosis fee. Since then , I've taken my Beamer in several times and have always had a positive experience ; they take the time to explain your car's problem and its solution, charge a reasonable rate, and come off as genuinely honest people.
