I was excited when I pulled up and saw the bbq pit going, smelling great and what not. Unfortunately, I wasn't there for the bbq but for the fish. Ordered the catfish dinner and it was rather disappointing. You ever go to a spot that sells fried catfish and the catfish, looks like catfish, is fried in cornmeal but the texture is rather spongy and just doesn't taste like the best catfish you've known of? That's the catfish you get here. It's something I've only experienced before from places that sold catfish as an afterthought to crawfish and everything else, but it was a shock to find it here being sold and cooked by my people. I read an article a while back about how fish is usually incorrectly labeled and when experiements were done, what people thought they were getting was in fact, far off from the fish they thought they were eating and in one case those in the study were actually eating a parasite. Since then, when I come across this spongy stuff they try to pass off as catfish, I get immediately disgusted. I didn't finish eating the fish, ate 1 1/2 out of 6 pieces. Could've been better but the guy at the register barely even wanted to give me any hot sauce, I got one tup that was half filled with hot sauce. My sides were hush puppies and mac n cheese. The hush puppies were good. As the reviewer under me mentioned, the mac n cheese is not fresh, more pepper than cheese. You would find better mac n cheese at Church's Chicken. Gave this place a try and am sadly disappointed. The good thing is that I didn't get to place a second order for the red snapper lunch-since they were no longer doing lunch. I was cruising through Rialto on a Sunday afternoon and was excited to see a guy with a sign that said "BBQ and Fish". I made a u-turn and stopped in. The people were friendly. I spoke with the gentleman on the sidewalk for a bit. I didn't have exact change for my order and went back to my car. When I returned the guy behind the counter waved me off and told me not to worry about it. The food was terrible. I had the hot links with macaroni and cheese and baked beans. You'd think with a BBQ place, I'd start with the protein, but I'm going to start with the macaroni and..."cheese"? I have a thing about sour cream, cream cheese, mayo and ranch. I don't know what they put in that macaroni, but it wasn't cheese. I could smell it before I even opened the plate. I couldn't bring myself to try it. The baked beans were the best thing on my plate, but I'm fairly certain they came out of a can. The hot links didn't have any grill marks on them nor did they have any type of smoke flavor that I could discern. I'm still wondering if those were cooked outside or in the kitchen. I paid $17 for a plate I didn't eat. I brought it home and gave it to a family member. He couldn't tell what was on the macaroni either but agreed that it wasn't cheese. I wanted med hot. So glad I asked for a bit of mild sauce on the meat. And med hot sauce on side because it is good n hot!! Sides were perfect. Grerns not overly salty or vinegary, mac n cheese yum. As I ate mine, TWICE I found pieces of plastic mixed in with the meat on top of my potato. Additionally, the majority of my "rib meat" was bone, cartilage, and inedible fat. I live Downey which is a good hour from this place but it happens to be right next to my gfs. I have been wanting to try it so this weekend when I went to visit her we did. It was our first time there and the cashier was very helpful with answering my questions and gave us free rib samples. Any doubts I had about this place were immediately thrown out the window. I am spoiled since I go to Bludso's a lot. I ended up getting the Tri combo which is a great price. I got sliced beef (tri tip), ribs, and chicken and my sides were Mac n cheese and baked beans. My gf ended up getting the chicken dinner with potato salad. All I have to say is that their tri tip is super delicious, the smokey flavor really makes the meat shine. The ribs are great fell right off the bone and had great flavor. The chicken was cooked well and they give you generous pieces. The Mac and cheese was great it wasn't too overpowering but it was nice and cheesy. Their baked are very tasty I believe they put some of their tri tip in it. This spot is definitely one of my favorite BBQ spots now and I would recommend it to anyone in the area. I was looking for good BBQ in the area and sadly, this is not it. I have to put an up front disclaimer that we got very sick to our stomach after tasting this food (we didn't even eat more than two bites).... I should have gone with my gut feeling about this place. I asked what kind of wood they smoke on and they said orange wood. Never heard of BBQ being smoked on orange wood. I was given a sample of the ribs. The sample was the size of my thumbnail. It tasted like orange, a weird too sweet, citrus flavor. The sauce was much too sweet. I thought, maybe if I get a hotter sauce, and surely all the meat isn't this tough? But it was. I got the two meet dinner with ribs and trip, medium hot BBQ sauce on the side. The meat was tough, undercooked. The ribs had a huge fat cap and silver skin that had not been removed. The fat had not been cooked off nor did it have any char or caramelization to the top of the meat. The tri tip tasted old and was incredibly dry. The sauce was sickeningly sweet and a weird grainy consistency (probably from the copious amount of brown sugar in it). There was no improvement on the two side orders. Mac n' cheese was oily, lacked flavor and dry. The green beans- yuck! I ordered it because they said they were fresh and an old family recipe made with turkey. They tasted canned, had a brown color to them, and were again sickeningly sweet??! All this food we couldn't eat costed $15+ dollars. The service was the worst. The girl behind the register was on her phone the whole time and the few questions I asked about the menu her response was, "I don't know." I had to prompt her to please find out from the cook. Lesson learned. Always go with your gut. If I lived closer, I would have taken the food back and asked for a refund. The trash can enjoyed a BBQ dinner instead.
