Think of "Neighborhood Bar" - that dying breed of locally owned (usually family owned) restaurants/bars where being a "regular" is an earned status. Think Cheers without the neckties, and within driving distance before your air conditioning can cool off your car. That's WestSide. Located in a Lee's Summit strip mall, anchored by Big Lots and Starbucks, on MO 291, it's about as neighborhood as you can get. Why don't be surprised if the staff remembers your drink and maybe your food order by your third visit (your name might take a bit longer). Anyway, I have always gotten excellent and friendly service along with very good food. There are daily meal and drink specials. Any meal I have ever had that wasn't up to snuff was immediately taken back and replaced with whatever I actually ordered. Servers? Think "the girl next door, but with a smile and a good attitude." Parking is abundant with adequate handicap spaces near the door. It's well lit and has that safe suburban feel. Their prices are reasonable (even in our current economy), and the menu should cover most reasonable tastes, without being overwhelming. The bar staff is awful, unless they recognize you as a regular. If you are not you sit with empty drinks and poor service after you place your order. The ladies room smells like it needs a deep clean. The off shift bartenders come in and get all the service attention. The food ia great and the TV's are plentiful. read more

We used to go here all of the time but things have changed. The tenderloins were very popular and good, but the last two times they were terrible! They were perfectly round, just like the bun, and not the "home made" type that they used to have. It came out very dark and the waitress admitted that perhaps they needed to change the grease. The bartender, who maybe is the part owner, is grumpy and doesn't seem like she likes to be there. Waitresses are fine and she offered to make me another tenderloin, which is very nice, but since I had two bad ones in a row I elected not to. Placed an order via door dash and my food was so under cooked I had to throw it away. I called to let the restaurant know and the young lady who answered the phone said "sorry we didn't get any order". I stated I have my receipt here from your location. she then stated" I thought you wanted your burger medium." When I never physically talked to her. This is the first time I've ever given any place this low of a rating. We came in after any lunch rush. No one greeted us or acknowledged us. There was one woman working the bar and talking to those seated there. One table of two women were done and trying to get a ticket to pay... They went up to the bar and were able to pay. There were three or four tables with people just sitting there. No drinks, no menus. We found a table and sat down and waited. This really is just a bar with a few tables around the edge. And the floor and tables all had that sticky feel like the spilled beer didn't get cleaned up too well. We looked at a specials laminated menu, but it clearly wasn't a regular menu. There really wasn't much of anything on the specials. We kept waiting. This really feels like a sad lonely place. I'm not sure why anyone would come here. We decided to just leave and go somewhere else where our business was wanted. read more

I've been to this location under it's different establishments and I will assume most of the turn around has to do with the location, and it's overall appeal as a bar/grill in the 'burbs and in an old strip mall. I visited this restaurant yesterday for the Philly steak special and was not disappointed, except that the fries were a bit too salty. Just had lunch, horrible experience. Mangers spend more time on phones, than taking care of business and customers! The place is filthy, dishes stacked up behind bar, when only 4 customers. Don't spend time just taking care of business, just stand there on the phone!! Same situation in kitchen food comes out burnt when kitchen managers spending time her phone!!! Sat outside on the patio which sometimes can result in poor service but this was my worst experience yet. We ordered fried pickles for an appetizer, they were good but we found a hair on one of them. We asked two separate servers for a wine and beer list and eventually went to the bar and got one ourselves. Once the food came out, we asked for refills and extra napkins which were never brought. The sweet potato fries taste good but were cold. The smokehouse burger tasted like it was made with very cheap beef. On a positive note the chicken tenders were very good. Haven't been here in a while...it's changed hands apparently. We were promptly ignored by both the bartender and the waitress who was behind the bar when we walked in for several minutes. We had to flag down the 20 something blond waitress with glasses, to see if we could sit outside as she was going to walk right by us. She was a DITZ and couldn't manage 4 or 5 tables. (I have waitressed for several years, btw, at better establishments than this). I doubt she could manage ONE table effectively. She started off by forgetting a glass for my beer.... twice. She then turned the whole order in at once meaning our appetizer and meal came out at the same time. Got my order wrong and when she came by to ask if everything was okay, she left before I could tell her I didn't get any pickles on my sandwich. I had a mouthful of food so I put up my hand to wave her down as she breezed by with her question (because she wasn't REALLY interested in finding out if we were satisfied or not)....she actually waved back (as if I was just excited to see her cute blond-ness) and started to walk off! When she realized I actually had something to say she backed up a few steps and I told her that not only had I not gotten onions on my tenderloin sandwich (We discovered this when she first brought the food and she looked and pointed at my partners onions as if I should just eat some of his, he stepped in and offered some- so that problem was "solved") but I had also not gotten the pickles we had discussed. She looked exasperated at the cook and just shook her head, clucked her tongue and rolled her eyes. No "I'm sorry" or "I'll get them right away"....just a, "Dang, life kinda sucks sometimes doesn't it? I feel your pain. He's an idiot" kind of expression....and walk away!! Nope, I never got the pickles. She then came back to clear our table while we were still eating, but never asked if we needed a refill on our beer....ever. We said, "No we're not finished eating yet" and "I still never got my pickles" At which point she finally decides to go get them and I tell her "Nevermind, it's too late now." A couple minutes later she sneaks up behind us with the check and puts it on the table behind us saying very softly, "I'm just going to put this here and I won't bother you again." We said "What?!!" She repeats a little louder as she runs away, "I won't bother you again." We took that as a "You old, grumpy people are too mean to me (sniff) and I refuse to wait on you anymore." BOTHER us??? How about WAIT on us??? Sign of the times I guess when you hire snowflakes and don't train them. They think they should get a participation medal( a check) for just showing up. They don't understand the meaning of "service to others" and can't handle confrontation or criticism and everyone who isn't enthralled with their rainbows and unicorns personality is a hater. I wrote everything down on the back of the ticket hoping the owner might see it someday. I even wrote, "You never even asked us if we wanted another beer...don't you work for TIPS based on check total?" She finally did come back to our table to collect the check and indicated she had seen me writing on the ticket (Now I'm the wicked witch that is just being mean to the poor little princess). I told her I hope that my feedback would help make her a better waitress. She thanked me very snarkily. When we walked back into the restaurant behind her, she motioned with her head to the "manager"/slash bartender (who looked to be her 20 something bestie) as if to say, "Here's those crazy people I was telling you about." They made eye contact and the bestie's eyes said to her "I got your back sista". I said, "Look, we're not mean people but our order was screwed up from the get go, this girl couldn't remember anything, and when we told her about the mistakes she either takes them as a personal attack or ignores them altogether. I gave her a brief list of all the omissions and problems with our visit and finished with, "She needs some training on how to be a waitress." The manager just smugly smiled and (with just the RIGHT amount of snarky -ness) said, "Thank You so much" as all the bar patrons looked on. Not "I'm sorry, what can we do to secure your service in the future?" I would have had more respect for her if she had just spoken what she was really thinking as in "F you, don't come back...we don't need your nitpicky kind here throwing shade on our unicorns and rainbows. Be gone you haters." So, she apparently needs some training as well. I noted that they had only 5 tables and half a bar on a Sunday night after a Chiefs win. They used to be packed. So if you like a lot of righteous indignation, judgment and snark with your incorrect meal this is the place to go. Otherwise, avoid it. We walked in at 7 o'clock on a Saturday night and they found space for us. Let us know they would need our table in an hour or so for a reservation and paid special attention to get us drinks and dinner quickly. I had the siracha burger. It was delightful. Next time I will ask for it medium. Just alittle too well done for my liking, but very tasty. The coleslaw was not so good for me for some reason. Tasted old. I like fresh slaw. My waitress always made sure I had Water and I didn't have to wait too long for the food to come out. Seem like they have lots of regulars. Horrible. Ate there last night with friends, and I am still not happy about the server delivering a full bill to us of $80, with no discounts, comped items, or apologies about what all went wrong during our visit. Six of us in the party, three of us and three of them; separate checks. We were there to celebrate: getting out of debt, two retirements among us, and a new car purchase, so we were all happy and feeling celebratory when we arrived. My ribeye was served absolutely COLD. It was taking the guy so long to come around in between table visits that I immediately got up and took my plate to him to tell him about the steak being cold. When I did, he asked me if it was ALL cold, and when I told him no, the loaded potato was hot, he slid my steak off the plate and said they'd throw it back on the grill, and brought my potato right back out to me. So, I either eat my potato alone while I wait for my steak to be reheated, or I wait to eat it with my steak and it's cold by then, too. So I munched on my "salad"...some bagged lettuce on a plate with some shredded cheese on top, no tomato or cucumber or anything else...and my potato while waiting for my steak. My husband ordered the surf n turf Friday special, which was a 8oz strip steak and 4 heavily breaded shrimp. The steak was ordered medium, and came out without a hint of pink in it at all. And it was cold, as well. His whole plate was cold, potato too, so they did remake his whole plate. While I ate my potato and lettuce (I don't like cheese on my salad, so I picked it off). Our daughter ordered the chicken enchilada soup, which was disgusting. It was as if they had taken an actual chicken enchilada and put it in a blender, it was so THICK. Not like a soup at all. She did say the chicken tenders were really good. Our friends did not receive their dinners until we were done eating. Their order, although reportedly was turned into the kitchen at the same time as ours, wasn't made until we complained after ours was delivered (cold). We weren't in a hurry, but we were there two and a half hours total. I was just floored when the server delivered our bill, charging us full price for delivering cold food, reheating a steak, remaking one whole plate, forcing me to be the only one eating my dinner at the time because husband's was being remade, and our friends hadn't been served. IF you insist on eating here, stick with beer; I don't recommend their margaritas. I guess I was supposed to know that a "loaded" potato comes with an extra $1.00 charge, bc the server didn't mention it. It was just a nice little surprise on our bill. We are very easy to please, but what a severe disappointment and gray cloud over our celebrations this place put on our evening/week. And I resent paying $80 for that meal. read more

I agree with you T.J., the service is really poor. It took us close to 1.5 hours to complete a meal there (4 people). Our food just sat in the server's window. There were only 3 other occupied tables! Our food was barely warm and the burger I ordered came without any topping. "Let me know if you want lettuce or tomato" our waitress said. "Yes, yes I would like some lettuce and tomato!" I quickly replied. Minutes later I receive a huge piece of Romain lettuce. What a joke. We've been going to Westside since the first week it opened. If you would have asked me then, I would have told you it's the best place to get a steak on Thursday nights. Drinks are always heavy handed, and the servers knew what I wanted without me ordering. Due to my wife and I having a baby, we hadn't been in about a year. Things have definitely changed. I have been here a few times and found the food to be acceptable. The last time I went we ordered the potato skins. The skins themselves were like leather and burned but somehow cold. The salsa they brought us was expired and had fermented. I also ordered tacos. I never thought that tacos could be screwed up but alas I was wrong. I ordered chicken and got beef and they did not season the meat. Extremely flavorless but at least I got salsa that wasn't expired with my meal. One of the worst restaurant experiences I have had. Our server was very apologetic and took off the skins but I can safely say that I will not be going back. read more

(I only get 1 hour for lunch) When I cut into the burger it was RAW. not undercooked but RAW. I told the waitress that it was raw and I don't have time to wait for another one. If I could select zero stars, I would. Service was decent until the food came. I ordered a hamburger, cooked medium, and my cousin ordered chicken nachos. Right before the food was delivered, the server brought my cousin a tiny styrofoam plate for her "meal". When she asked for a regular, bigger plate, you would have thought she was asking for a Ferrari from the server. When the food arrived...My hamburger was dripping with blood when I picked it up and my cousin was brought beef nachos instead of chicken. After speaking with the manager about my burger, he said they would make a new one for me. 10 minutes later they finally brought my badly burned burger back. It tasted awful. It was crunchy because of the burned spots on the burger from the grill. My cousin said she would keep her nachos as-is but did ask for more salsa and jalapenos. She was originally given a little plastic cup of salsa so it didn't last too long. The server brought more salsa and jalapenos pretty quickly though. After eating about two bites from my burger, I was done. Lost my appetite. The tater tots were good though (so that's a bonus...hard to mess those up!). So, we asked for our bill. Upon reviewing it, they did not discount anything for my burger issues and we realized my cousin was charged for extra salsa AND jalapenos! It would be one thing if they brought a huge bowl of both but we're talking a TINY cup with salsa and one with 5-6 jalapenos. Seriously?! We paid the bill but left no tip. Hopefully they got the message why. This was my first (and last) time going to Westside Grill and Bar. I had heard great things about the place but sounds like that was a long time ago when they were good...especially after reading reviews from other customers on here. read more
