Unable to comment on long term care or quality of medical services here but having seen grandparents through years and three separate facilities, can say there is no ideal or easy option for anyone moving out of the comfort of their homes. It is a lost battle and only some quality detail oriented people, customized care, and consistent family support can offer any decent leverage against the aging process and diseases. Glad to have this option and many others in the area to give elderly a chance to connect with others in their similar situation and have positive moments for their remaining days and years.

I was impressed from the minute I walked in the door. The receptionist was so welcoming, and she and my friend had a great conversation upon entering. The first thing I noticed was how clean the facility is (it was recently freshly painted) and how wide the hallways are, which allows easy access for walkers, etc. We went up to her mother's one bedroom apartment on the third floor and it was a good size for one person, complete with kitchen facilities and a big bathroom. (There are studios, and one- and two-bedroom apartments and I was able to see all of them on my visit.) While walking the hallways, I noticed the colorful artwork on the walls, the theater, the library, the activities center and several other amenities that indicated to me this was more a community than a "nursing home". It is quite a cheerful and friendly atmosphere. We then went down to lunch and sat with her and another resident. They both stated the food was quite good and they liked the selections provided for each meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner). The dining room is spacious, and the staff is amazing, friendly and interactive. While sitting in the dining room, the Director, Sue, came to the table to talk to her residents and we had a pleasant conversation also. I told her how impressed I was with this facility, and she thanked me, but also thanked me for allowing her to administer to "our loved ones that we put in her care". I was impressed! Sue definitely is dedicated and takes special pride in making sure the residents are well cared for and happy. If you are looking for a place to care for your loved ones when the time comes, I suggest you look no further than this facility. It really is top-notch! It also has a Memory Care facility. Although I did not visit that section, my friend said it is just as impressive.

The longest one was when I waited OVER 2HOURS. and I was the youngest person in there and could speak for myself. The older people that was there , I have so much empathy for them. Plus, When I had some girl came in to do my leg lifts and she just sat in the chair playing on her phone the whole time Don't let your families live their lives out there. There was a few people that stood out...Drea was super sweet. I believe that she runs the place. And one of the nurses named Christine was really good about not making me wait.

I've had multiple episodes of bedbugs. although I understand, bedbugs are almost ubiquitous the uncaring attitude of the administration with total poor communication and requiring residence to live in their apartments for up to a month or more at a time with bedbugs while they are "in process being sprayed every two weeks even though bedbugs continue to present themselves during the whole time is deplorable. I was forced to sleep in a recliner chair that does not recline the bedbugs required me to take a shower three times a night and change clothes repeatedly this facility has serious bedbug issues. I reiterate that multiple residents in this facility over the last six years have had multiple episodes of bedbugs and I can name names. It is well known and you can check this out yourself on the Internet but the spraying of furniture, etc., for bedbugs is pretty much in effective for the most part and the only definitive treatment is heat treatment which this facility puts off until the very end and requires that you live in your apartment until that time they do not provide another room that you can go to. They say there are no rooms even though they entertain new guest and move-in continuously. They also do not put you up in a hotel they do not pay for the replacement of your furniture nor take any money off your rent for inconvenience of your facility all the while you're being quarantine you have to take a shower and put on clean heat treated clothes before you can come out of your apartment then you cannot go back into your apartment unless you want to take another shower and repeat the process. One of the major complaints is poor communication between the administration and the residence. I've had very poor communication this episode and it is totally frustrating and infuriating.

If I'm being honest, there's little I fear more than ending up in some type of facility-based…read moresetting as I get older. I dread the thought. However, as a person with a disability whose last family member only recently passed away I'm aware that at some point I may need another level of care and support. Marquette, a Life Plan retirement community, is one of Central Indiana's better options. I've experienced Marquette in a multitude of ways - from visits to chaplaincy to friends who have lived (and continue to live) here to my own experiences. Marquette is located on Indy's northwest side. It's on a 47-acre wooded campus that offers independent living, assisted living, a health campus, short-term rehab, and memory care. They're getting ready to create a new area called "The Commons" to create a pickleball area (I really need to try that sometime), a lounge, a grilling area and more. As you enter Marquette (which used to be known as both Marquette Manor and Marquette Senior Living), you pass through a monitored gate entrance. I believe it's 24/7 and I've never been here when someone wasn't present. It helps to know the names of the different areas as signage is really geared more toward community than commercial. The different areas are clearly defined. This is a wooded setting with trails, a small lake, and an abundance of parking (though I'll say one deficit is that finding accessible parking if you're not a resident is difficult at times). Services include transportation (shopping, medical, events/outings), valet parking, bi-weekly housekeeping and weekly flat linen, healthcare at the on-campus Lynne O'Day Clinic, maintenance, lawn care, snow removal, emergency call systems, pendants w/GPS tracking, expanded basic cable/internet, all utilities (except phone), and free wifi throughout campus. Assistance in living is extra. Amenities include a variety of dining options in pretty amazing settings. This is a "facility," yet so often I'm amazed at what they've done to make it not feel like one. There's a more formal dining room, casual grill, outdoor dining area, and even a "Township Tavern." Marquette has an athletic center run by the National Institute of Fitness and Sports. There are wellness programs run by two full-time, on-site personal trainers. There's a performing arts center, on-campus BMO Harris banking, a massage studio, guest suites for visitors (and private dining room areas), a woodworking shop, a business center, a chapel (that accommodates different faiths), walking/biking trails, a gift shop, and Marquette is pet friendly (small pets). Marquette, of course, has all the usual stuff - library, billiards, patio space, gardens. I've never had a bad experience here. Employees are well dressed, friendly, helpful, and discreet with personal assistance. They are protective of residents, however, it feels like almost "Disney" in a way. It's like friendly yet very definite. I've gotten the feeling more than once that these employees would kick your a** if you tried to hurt one of their residents. The front desk people are helpful and knowledgeable. The website features a wealth of knowledge about community including strong knowledge about costs (Yes, it's expensive. Every retirement community is but I love that they're open about this kind of information). There are very few retirement settings where I think "I could live here," but Marquette is definitely one where I think "I could live here." I dread the day when I may actually need more help, but if I reach that point I sure hope I can find a place like Marquette to live.

My mom was diagnosed with cancer 2 months ago she was full of cancer pretty much from the belly…read morebutton down...she had a full hysterectomy as well as 26 limp nodes removed and still has a place near her rectum and in some limp nodes and os being treated with Chemotherapy ....she has not been able to start radiation yet due to her incision opening up in the hospital....and so the hospital sent her home and we had another home health care team prior to the American Home Health care team and they were awful ....would say they were coming and didn't show and I her daughter (not a nurse) did all the care giving....well long story made short my mom ended up with a horrible infection due to the surgeon not treating her with antibiotics after the surgery ande ended up going to a wound specialist and he changed our home health care team to American Home Health care and let me tell you they are sooooo wonderful and professional ....and God blessed my entire family by bringing this team of nurses into our lives they are kind, well trained, thruoigh and I cannot say enough good things .....so I wanted to put the word out about this wonderful team.
