My mother-in-law was here for one week for respite care. The memory unit was very dirty and the…read moreappearance of the patients were disturbing. She was moved from that ward into her own room per my request. We had issues with her sitting in urine and feces, she had dirty diapers over flowing her waste can and on bathroom floor as well in a chair in her room. They were left there by the aides not by her. She is immobile. I had to file grievances on her care. I do not believe she was administered her medication correctly or at all. Her vital numbers drastically decreased by the end of the week. Her medicine typically keeps BP level and sugar numbers stable. When approached and asked I received her story vs. theirs. I believed they used her early onset dementia as a way to manipulate their responsibility of her care. I am glad I came in every other day because who knows how long she would have been in the same diaper in a dirty bed. VERY dissatisfied and concerned. The building is old and dirty...I was on hyper alert for roaches and bed bugs. Prisoners have a better way of life than the elderly people in this place. I'm sure they were all productive members of society forced to live with minimal belongings in diplorable conditions. Everyone deserves dignity.

If this group could get 100 stars on this site, that still wouldn't be enough. We were given…read moreSenior Helper's name by a group that helps find caregivers, assisted living facilities and nursing homes. Our quite elderly mother was in need of home care. In reaching out to Senior Helpers, they were immediately responsive to our needs. They came to Mom's home, checked things out, talked with her and then called to say they were on board with helping us. All of Mom's children are out of state and so it was important to have people we could trust that were there and close to Mom. There were a few hiccups the second week. Senior Helpers were at Mom's home the next day, addressed any issues and assured us that there wouldn't be any more problems, and they were right. Now to the amazing part. Mom became terminal pretty quickly and Hospice was called in. It was determined that someone needed to be with Mom 24/7. A family member was there with Mom by that time but had to leave to go home, out of state. There would be a lapse of 36 hours before a family member would be with Mom again. So what does Senior Helpers offer up? They will stay overnight and all day with Mom until another family member arrives. This was done on 2 days notice. When asking them if they were able to find someone to stay overnight with Mom, the woman that answered the phone (Kim) said that if they didn't have any caregivers available, SHE WOULD COME AND STAY OVERNIGHT WITH MOM! Who, in this day and age, does that? In a time of high stress for us, these people were amazing. I would highly recommend this group to anyone. Nothing/no one is perfect but they come pretty darn close.

If your loved one needs more care than simply sitting in front of the television all day, do not…read morecall Senior Helpers. Their claim of being "experts in Alzheimer's and dementia care" is one of the biggest jokes in recent history. Alz/Dem patients need consistency and routine. Senior Helpers meets this need with a rotating door of caregivers. Plus, their ever-dwindling staff is just the right size to provide no back-up options in case your caregiver calls off sick. Alz/Dem patients need constant attention and interaction. Senior Helpers more than meets this need with its extensive library of ambient videos of fish and other animals. Your loved one will get all of the love and attention he or she needs with constant reminders from the caregiver to "Watch the video" or "Look at the cute little kitten." Alz/Dem patients need assistance with most of the basic daily tasks. A seasoned Senior Helpers caregiver will always make sure your loved one goes to the bathroom unless he or she resists in any way. Then, you'll come home to soiled pants and other dirty laundry. Alz/Dem patients need to take medication daily. Count on Senior Helpers to assist with this task until your loved one experiences any level of trouble with it. Then, you will be told that any task involving medication requires medical training, which Senior Helpers does not provide. So, what does Senior Helpers provide? If you're looking for a caregiver who's the equivalent of a car pool dummy, then I suggest you give them a call.
