Although many breweries/brewpubs have leaned into the now-cliché industrial look, KBC looks very much like an old school pub. Its walls are covered in the paraphernalia of countless beer companies, and there's plenty of nooks and crannies to sit down with your people and knock back some pints. Going to brewpubs can be a hit-or-miss experience for my non-beer-drinker wife, but KBC's enticing menu has something for everyone. Also, their sausage rolls appetizer was enough to ensure that we were both eager to try out the pub. The sausage rolls are of the bite-sized variety and come with a tomato-chili sauce for dipping. The puff pastry of the rolls was shatteringly-crisp, with some browning on both it and the exposed meat at the ends. I enjoyed the juicy, savoury meat inside and the tomato-chili sauce brought some acidity and heat to the show. Since we still weren't l that hungry, we decided to share just one main, the cottage pie. I always give mental kudos to places that use the proper name for this dish (it's only shepherd's pie if lamb is used) and take it as a sign that they know what they're doing. It's hard to have a *bad* cottage/shepherd's pie, but KBC's stood a bit above the fray with a bit more depth of flavour to its meat seasoning, as well as the smoked cheddar in the potatoes. As always, don't be too eager, as you will burn your mouth. Our server was very chill, but was still attentive and knew his stuff beer- and food-wise. It's easy to see why KBC is such a popular spot, and I'm glad we hit them up on this trip through Kingston!

One of the best chicken burgers I have ever had. I chose a garden salad with it. Yum. I've been at least 3 times here. Always fun. Friends. Date. Alone. Live music some nights. Clean. Bathrooms... You gotta make your fun where you find it, and bring it on home! So, we recently stopped in at the Carp Fair Grounds for the Carp Farmers' Market (a whole new experience during the pandemic! But this is for another review :-) ) On the way to the Fairgrounds, we passed by the new Ridge Rock Brewing Co., and we were very impressed with the big patio out the back of the building. Since we do enjoy craft beer, we decided to stop by on the way home from the farmer's market on this day. First of all, the brewery is in an updated red brick building on the corner of Carp Rd. and Donald B. Munro Dr. There is a seating area or two to your left as you enter, and a reception / cashier on the right, where they also sell souvenirs (cool!) It's nice and bright in here, and I can't wait until we can sit inside again, and share good times at one of these tables. On the day we were here, we were 2nd in line, but nobody was at the cash. We waited for not more than 5 minutes for the server to get back. She was friendly, informative, and efficient, and didn't take long to get to us. We picked up an 8-pack of a variety of beers: 2 Blonde, 2 Amber, and 2 Late Harvest, as well as 1 each of Lett Kveik and Spro Kveik - specialties of this brewery. I couldn't wait - we shared a can of the Amber over lunch. It was very tasty! I look forward to going back, hopefully to dine-in, at some point over the summer.

A LOT OF UNTAPPED POTENTIAL ===========================…read more My husband and I stopped in on Monday, November 18th around 2:00 p.m.. There was hardly anyone inside, yet I had to wait ten minutes to get a table. It went downhill from there. One server for the whole restaurant is a problem. I just ordered a beer and fries. It was cold so my husband just wanted tea. The first cup tasted like coffee that he doesn't like. The second cup was cold. He gave up at that point. Even though it's the only place on the Black River we won't be back.

That said, we really did enjoy the food. It was BOGO beer or pizza. The hubby partook in a beer and we opted to share an appetizer of cheese curds and a fish and chips. I will say I was slightly disappointed with our curds. They were small and most were just empty pieces of batter. The people beside us got a beautifully breaded batch and much more. They tasted good, but still disappointed in the lack of curds (the empty ones). The fish was nice and light and not fishy at all. I really enjoyed the coleslaw and my husband likes the fries. It was just the right amount of crisp without being too much and the perfectly flaky fish. The price wasn't terrible and the lake view is very nice and relaxing.
