I first contacted Bone Roofing Supply because I needed a few squares of Perfection cedar shingles, and happened upon Gerard, who was super accommodating - gave me a fantastic price on both the product and delivery, and since I wanted to be sure the shingles were of a particular type of cedar and are certi-grade, he even went out to the yard and took pictures of the actual pallets for me. Then came the day of delivery, and I had grossly underestimated the height of the pallets. They couldn't be slid into our storage unit due to their height and the height of the forklift, so what had to be done is to unload a large portion of the bundles off the pallets, and re-stack them inside the unit by hand. Anthony, the driver, helped with the whole process, ensuring everything made it inside. In total, he spent about an hour of his time unloading and loading bundles by hand, in pouring rain! I don't know how many delivery drivers would go so far out of their way to help the customer, this was certainly beyond his responsibility. I then called Bone to speak to a manager to share my experience, and the gentleman I spoke with was also super nice and confirmed that they, as a business, really work hard to keep their customer service at a high level. You can say that again! Fantastic job, when the need arises again in the future, I will buy from them again with 100% certainty.

I was shopping with my young daughter when she suddenly had an urgent bathroom emergency. I politely asked the manager if we could please use the restroom. Instead of even acknowledging us with basic courtesy, he kept his back turned while I was speaking to him, making it feel like we weren't even worth his attention. When he finally responded, he refused to let us use the restroom and told us to go "two stores down" instead. This was incredibly frustrating, especially since I was actively shopping and planning to spend money in the store. A little compassion and basic human decency would have gone a long way. It's disappointing that a manager would treat a mother and child this way during an emergency. Customer service isn't just about selling products--it's about treating people with respect. Unfortunately, that was completely absent here. Needless to say, I left without finishing my shopping, and I will never return. There are plenty of hardware stores that value their customers and know how to show simple kindness.

Villa Park Ace is convenient but convenience comes with a price. When I say "older", I mean that they're not exactly up to speed with things like ringing up a Yelp coupon (there's no sku!) and calling for extra help at the register using the walkie talkie ear piece (instead the gentleman simply yelled "can anyone help a customer over here?!"). I'm not a home owner or wildly invested in a home project so I don't mind it at all. It reminds me of my grampa - a little slower and a bit old fashioned but they know where every single thing is in that store! They are very speedy with making keys! And they have a nice selection of cool keys like a Chicago Blackhawks key or even Disney characters! I like popping by when I need something like potting soil or a wall anchors. I like keeping these guys around:)
