That's when I started calling around for help. Most places I called were quick to ask what was wrong and immediately quote me a fee just to come out. I was considering one of them until I spoke with Meigs. He was awesome. He told me he offers free quotes over the phone, but he didn't just give me a quote. He actually tried to help me troubleshoot the issue right then and there. He spent about 10 minutes on the phone with me, calmly walking me through step-by-step instructions. He suggested there might be another GFCI hidden somewhere else in the house or even in the garage. The garage hadn't even crossed my mind, but it made sense since the restrooms are closer to that side of the house. Since we don't live at the property, I wasn't there at the time to test it. I told him we'd try it when we were back there later in the week. I must've sounded a little flustered because he kindly said, "When you get there, call me if you need me," offering to walk me through everything again if necessary. Since this is a major project, I researched and contacted multiple electrical contractor companies and individual electricians. In my home, the gas meter is in the front at one end of the house, and the main electric panel is in the back at the opposite end of the house, in other words, a long distance between the two. The electric panel was really old, which complicated matters more. This was not a simple job. Right from the initial contact, Gentec Services was responsive, professional, and fantastic to work with. The estimator arrived on time and was very knowledgeable and professional. He offered various options and came up with a clever solution for where to place the generator and how to run the wire conduit from the front to the back of the house. None of the other electricians and contractors came up with these ideas. The estimator followed up with a detailed description of the job and cost breakdown. After completing my research and receiving estimates, I chose Gentec Services over the others, because they seemed most professional, most knowledgeable, and most experienced with generators and transfer switches. Gentec Services applied for a permit with the town before any work started to make sure that the plan was to the town's satisfaction. They knew the permit process very well. Once the town gave permission, I was notified and the installation was scheduled. A week before the starting date, a project manager arrived to inspect the site in detail. He was very knowledgeable and professional. He was an electrician himself. He explained the installation process and answered questions. On the scheduled start date, three technicians arrived early in the morning. They brought a large truck with the generator, the transfer switch, and all the necessary parts for the installation. Installation was complete in four days, although it was scheduled for 5-6 days. They installed a 22 KW standby generator, a new 200 AMP main electric panel, and an automatic transfer switch. The project manager took care of any parts needs without interrupting the team. I was home the entire four days and watched the technicians work. They were very skilled. The gas plumbing was perfect. The electric work was perfect. The conduit work was perfect. They rewired the main panel flawlessly. There was no guessing, no looking up instructions, no runs to Home Depot for missing parts, no mishaps, and no learning on the job. It was very obvious that they had installed generators, panels, and transfers switches countless times before. All three technicians were experienced electricians and one was also skilled in plumbing. They knew the generator menu system and all its features inside and out. They worked very hard. They were also very nice. After completion, I noticed that there was a device on the side of the electric panel; I asked about the device and was told that it was a surge protector. The surge protector was not part of the contract but was added at no charge to me, which I really appreciated. The device will protect my appliances against electrical surges. After the installation, the project manager and the team leader made sure that the inspection and the permit from the town were completed and signed. Even the person who processes payments was competent and pleasant. The staff was also very honest. There were no hidden charges and no games. I am extremely satisfied and would give Gentec Services the highest recommendation. If you need a standby generator or main panel work, Gentec Services are the best.
