We have had numerous issues with this company. Drivers continually knock the recycling bin over spilling its contents. The worst part is they don't clean up all their mess. We have also had several road reflectors broken when they push the bins into the reflector stands causing them to break. I will say they reimbursed me all three times, but not for my wasted time. Lastly and the final straw is we put the compost into the recycle bin by accident last night. Both the recycling and compost containers are the large brown containers and only the sticker is different. One is labeled compost and the other states recycling. So I called Western this morning and was told that they will not pick it up tomorrow but will schedule this for a different day and charge me for it. I told the lady to forget it and that I will transfer it tonight (I have a large load already to go into the container when emptied tomorrow) and then look for a new waste company. I will probably try to hit at least 4 more sites to spread the word of the unsatisfactory service as well as customer service provided by Western Disposal in Boulder County! read more

Terrific Customer Service. Among the best of any company I deal with. Reliable. Employees are friendly and efficient. You can get someone on the phone during business hours. I called for a replacement trash cart and it was delivered within hours. The drivers of the trash trucks are very skilled and careful. In addition to the standard carts they will pickup large leaf bags of garden waste and extra large boxes, on appropriate pickup days. They pick up in all weather, almost always on time. They do a difficult job well. read more

Currently we are having to pay our city a fee to not use their service and keep Western--they are THAT good! Fair pricing, but we stay for the amazing customer service. They go above and beyond, ensuring the bins are left in the right spot neatly in front of the driveway, going back for your trash when you've forgotten trash pick up and call them frantically asking if they have already gone by your house... always helpful and they always have a good attitude. My kids love to wave to them and they always smile and wave back and sometimes honk the horn for them. It's the little extra touches! In the past we've used other disposal services and they were rude and clearly didn't care about your property, etc. and had zero grace for customers who forgot to take a bin out. I don't recommend Western Disposal for commercial use. We didn't read the fine print and found our 3 year contract had an automatic renewal date which cannot now be amended. We are stuck with this contract, even though we moved the location of our business. read more

We've used Western Disposal for ten years and always gotten good service. We live outside the city limits, so there's no city-provided trash service and we pay Western directly. They provide Trash, Recycle, and Compost carts, each in your choice of 32-, 64-, and 96-gallon sizes. Their pricing structure is that they charge by the size of the Trash cart, and you can have whatever Recycle or Compost cart you want at no extra cost. They will swap carts at no charge, and also replace a damaged or worn-out cart at no charge. The Compost is not as useful as it used to be, because their composting contractor has become very picky about what they accept, so I only use it for plant clippings. Formerly they took things like pizza boxes and compostable food containers. They do a good job of notifying customers (via email) of service day changes due to holidays, and mail you a schedule card each year with the holidays and what is picked up each day (Recycle and Compost are on alternate weeks). They have a curbside junk removal service, which I have not used but seems to be a bargain (I use 1-800-GOT-JUNK, which is more expensive but will come into you house to haul things away). They also offer some electronics recycling and document shredding, but I have not used those either. They occasionally offer "sales" on these services. read more

I never thought that I would love a garbage collection service, but I love Western disposal. I often forget to put my trash out, but if I hear the truck pass and run outside, they will stop when they come back around the circle I live in, and they pick up my extra recycling with no questions asked when I leave it beside my bin. I also love their newsletters. It's the only piece of mail from a business that I read. They always have actually useful information, and sometimes they throw in random hilarious things, like putting customers names in the middle of paragraphs who win a free month of trash service. I think their trucks run on biogas that can be extracted from waste as well (maybe I'm not remembering that exactly correctly). Garbage is not the most flashy business to be in, but it's clear Western employees are doing their small part to make the world a better place, and I love it. Honestly, I feel a bit of joy every time I see one of their trucks. read more

WD has a monopoly in Boulder, and they are taking advantage of everyone by charging these outrageous prices. It is now up to $220 per quarter for less than 10 minutes of work each month. I was not offered choices in cancelling Western's service contract, nor was I notified of the renewal. I wanted to end service, not continue with different sized trash cans. Western Disposal was firm in their stance, despite saying otherwise in their response to my first review. I was offered to pay one year's worth of liquidated damages instead of two. Not sure how this is viewed as "good faith". Why am I required to pay for a year of service that I will not be using? This is not equitable or respectful. read more

Western Disposal has been my trash service for probably 4 years. I've lived in my home for 6 years now and have used two other major trash companies. After multiple issues including not coming because of snow, I saw Western picking up my neighbors trash when my service could not. That is when I made the switch and could not be happier. Western was cheaper and has never missed a pickup. Every interaction I've had with the pickup drivers has been great. Very polite and nice. I've had two billing issues over these last 4 years and both were quickly fixed. I would highly recommend Western Disposal. read more

We rented U-Haul's biggest trailer and hauled three loads--two tons total--of old fence and deck materials to the landfill facility. Total cost was $350. Hauling companies wanted $1350 or more. Boulder Hauling wouldn't even let us get a 20-yard rolloff because we're not a commercial customer. Western Disposal's facility was super easy. You drive in, they weigh your vehicle, you toss everything out of the trailer onto the ground, then get weighed again, pay and leave. They separate metal, wood, etc. for you. I even scored a decent 29er hardtail bike! I have one more thing to say...this place is a dump! :-) read more

Boulder does not have a city municipal trash/garbage program. Residents must purchase their own, whether through a landlord program or an individual program, whichever works for your situation whether you rent or own. Western has the vast majority of accounts in our community. They were the first to recycle, compost and bear-proof. They have trucks for regular automated suburban pick up and standard more compact trucks to handle the alleys in the old parts of town. Those trucks are used where human lifting does almost all the work. Thanks for trying so hard. I wish the city had a contract to let Western do a uniform job across the city. On our block, we see 2 other providers use our alley, each to do just one property. They are tripling the damage to our already failing alley surface. I do not see that they have any advantage over Western, in fact, one of the others stalled on every mandatory upgrade, like the bear proofing, so this was a detriment to the neighborhood. I have found the customer service office at Western to be helpful, have never had a billing problem, and after the flood of 2013, their drivers did heroic service for us in collecting our garbage even though the alley was washed out. I was even able to make affordable arrangements with them to pick up water damaged materials that we had pulled out of our crawl space. I have had this service for years, I will continue to have it and I wish the city would do a contract to simplify the truck access to our neighborhood. read more

In less than a day I received a call from Western and they worked with us to resolve the situation to our satisfaction. My lid did not close all the way on pick up day and they added a surcharge, but I sure never receive a credit when it is half full. Called and basically was told that it is to bad. It is trash collection, there is not much you can say other than they pick up the trash and recycling/compost at some time during the day with as much noise as possible, but never on a real schedule. Not a big deal. The problem is that they are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. The price PER QUARTER has now gone up to almost $200!!! How can these people believe that trash pickup is worth $800 per year??? Some of us are on a fixed income and don't have buckets of money to throw away on trash pickup. For less than 5 minutes of work to pick up my trash each wee, you are charging hundreds of dollars. Do you think people that live here are made of money? This company has a monopoly in Boulder, so apparently, they can charge whatever they want. read more

Awful and EXPENSIVE!!!! If you have seen the Sopranos and are aware of the "shakedown" in the sanitation business, then sign up with these guys. They are unbelievably expensive, nickle and diming you for everything you throw out, and did I mention the fees??? Surcharges galore will fill your invoice! Boulder city trash tax, recycle surcharge, fuel surcharge, volume surcharge....it never ends! Well, it ended today. I canceled and went with another disposal company (whose name involves moving in ONE direction or WAY). Not to mention, when I cancelled, these people were so rude. Just called them again the other day and they were fantastic on the phone again. And yes, drivers are always great, always wave to my dog. They're always very polite and helpful on the phone. Today the driver made my morning. I'd forgotten to put the cans out last night so I rushed out to try to catch him. I got out there as he drove by but after he finished with the neighbor he backed up and grabbed my can. He saved me from two weeks of hearing that the full recycling bin was my fault. read more

Don't use these people. They are idiots. They constantly miss either the trash pick-up or one of the other bi-weekly services: recycling or compost. And even when they "re-schedule", they still miss the pick-up, because they say the can wasn't out there, which is not true. And, they don't pick up from the driveway, so when they do re-schedule i have to get up and drag the can out to the alley. I have my second bill from them in front of me, and I am not paying it. I am not paying any cancellation fees either. I appreciate the person on this board who recommended another company. I hope they are better. Yes, yes, the customer service people are very nice. HORRIBLE! Make sure you ask how much anytime they offer anything. Im highly upset at your customer service and way of dealing with the public. Victoria (in billing) is a very rude and inconsiderate human. i called to contest a bill and her only reply was that I was a liar. This obviously set me off. No fees are shown anywhere on our paper work or on the recording that we have from your commpany that mattresses are $33 per on pick up. This is a very cruddy way to treat a client. Surprise charges and being called a liar will make any ones head spin. If an employee of mine was to treat anyone like this it would be immediate termination. These guys probably never get any props so this morning I wanted to express my gratitude for their reliable service. It's snowy and below zero here in Louisville and they showed up as usual without missing a beat. Plus, I had a crazy amount of leaves and the truck driver (white hair and grey beard) schlepped all of our bags by hand into his truck without missing a beat....then he relentlessly made sure all the leave stuck and frozen into our brown garbage can were shaken out of it so it would be totally emptied. I have only great things to say about Western Disposal! When I call to add extra compost service (leaves, branches, etc), they are very accommodating. Recently, I called to trade my compost bin in for the next size larger (no extra charge), again excellent customer service. The day they were supposed to drop off the new bin, a rep called to let me know that they were out of the larger bins and would bring them the next compost day - which was no problem and again very professional service. Tonight I received my quarterly bill along with their very nice newsletter - which was the final push to get on here and let you all know that I highly recommend Western Disposal. read more

Very expensive, near monopoly on Boulder weekly trash collection. I am one person living in a house, I produce very little trash - like one or two kitchen bags a week - yet their smallest container is many times more than I'll ever need. Then I left out a lightweight screen door for them to take, thinking it wouldn't be a big deal and the huge truck will just crush it like everything else. It ended up costing an extra $19.50. Maybe it's because the guys had to actually get out of the truck for a second. While they were not rude on the phone, with a near monopoly presence in Boulder for weekly trash collection they clearly feel no need to be helpful or friendly. Well I've had enough and am looking elsewhere. Haven't found any alternative so far. read more

The woman on the phone was completely unhelpful and refused to give me any information regarding recycling size, cost, scheduled pick up without speaking to the landlord. I wasn't even trying to "officially" set anything up, I simply was trying to get pricing to let the landlord decide what to do. Very rude experience. read more

They may be the only game in town BUT: they are always polite and cheerful (except the front desk gal who is probably stunned when someone actually walks into the offices). They clean things up if they fall out of the trash can. The employees seems to be genuinely cheerful. The cost isn't out of line for trash hauling. I only disagree with their changing their recycling schedule. They used to pick up recycling every week, now it is every other week, which for a recycler like me isn't enough. read more
