So I've NEVER gotten anything done to a guitar before. Im a bit of a noob. So I was totally unsure about how to go about getting what I needed. My beautiful semi hollow vantage was a bit aged. The dials didnt work very well. Screws were rusty. Overall my baby just needed a good trip to the guitar doc for a checkup. After reading the reviews on westcoast it was a no brainer for me. They have an amazing track record FOR A REASON! Not only were they suuuuper sweet and made me feel comfortable even though I had no idea what I needed. But when it came to the work they discovered not as much needed to be done so they took care of my baby for such a great price! She looks good. She sounds good. She feels good. Both Glen and Shannon were friendly, knowledgeable and very welcoming. I was a little intimidated to enter the store as they have a pretty impressive client list and even though they only carry the best of the best, their prices are still excellent. I was in the market for a new guitar, and had heard westcoast carries brands that are hard to find elsewhere. I wasn't disappointed! After a few visits, I ended up settling on a Suhr, and at a reasonable price too. However, a store wouldn't get 5 stars just for stocking cool guitars. I can see the links to all the brands but nothing for "in stock" or "inventory" or anything like that. Maybe they're just a special order shop, direct from the various manufacturers? As a guitarist beginning to find his chops I was ready to graduate from my dirt-cheap (but loved) Washburn House of Blues guitar to something that could keep up with me. My budget was at a place where the retail mark-up at the "big boxes" left me buying junk OR breaking budget to get something of quality. When I found Westcoast Guitars I was nervous about the smaller store front but wanted to give local, personal shops a chance. Early on Glen and Shannon pointed out a couple used Ibanez (trade-ins). I chose the cheaper of the two and had it at home only 1 day before wishing I has listened to Glen's recommendation of the higher end one. Despite having spent most of an hour setting up the Tremolo system and putting new strings on the guitar I bought --- Glen gladly allowed me to return it and pay the upgrade price. He even wiggled $50 on the price and I felt I got close to a Craigslist price but with the comfort of a store and owner that cared about the outcome. In his words "I want something that works for you" ... I believe it after experiencing their flexibility, service and fair price. This is NOT like a pawn shop, it's small because they keep unique guitars not a dozen each of the standards knocked out by Fender and Gibson. Their prices are negotiable and fair. (Though you can find entry level, it isn't to the exclusion of all else.) Bottom line, worth a shot if you like your shopkeeper to know you, treat you right and if you are into unique, good guitars. Next time I pick-up strings I'll probably grab a bag of the Marley coffee they sell in shop. It smelled good. (Who said coffee and guitars don't mix? :P) read more

This is a great guitar shop with a passion for what they do. I had an Acoustic Gibson J-45 Custom Vine to sell. It did not take long to realize Glen is an expert when it comes to evaluating guitars. Refreshingly, he is not the least bit arrogant. I found him to be straight forward and honest. It is uplifting to deal with kindred spirits in the music world. I am visiting this store regularly and the owners Glen and Shannon a very very hospitable, friendly and knowledgeable about their products. It feels more like visiting friends who you drink coffee and hang out with and I appreciate independent businesses with a personal touch. They will also order you pretty much anything you want if it is not in store, like a box of 12 string guitar strings, which are impossible to find in all the other music stores around Vancouver. They also happen to be the only designated dealer for Melatron in B.C., which otherwise would be difficult to get hold off. The coffee is great too. And the other day, when I didn't have internet, Shannon was so kind and let me look up of stuff on her I-Pad when I needed it. read more

I came to try out some amps and left with an amp, a new steel-string acoustic guitar and a feeling of joy. Shannon, Glen and their clientele are relaxed, very friendly and knowledgeable people. In this shop it's not just about money and stuff changing hands but also about having a nice chat (and excellent coffee!) and meeting other artists. I met Glen and Shannon, and my new guitar teacher Lawrie, when I went in to have Glen look at a guitar from another store I was having trouble with. He gave me his time, close, caring attention, and good advice, and treated me like an old friend, even though I was a stranger there then. I have not been a stranger since, and instead of buying that expensive guitar, which turned out to have a twisted neck, I bought a Suhr at Westcoast for a lot less money than the guitar which the other store should never have sold. It was so clear that Glen did not care about selling me anything, but just wanted me to be happy with the guitar - as opposed to my experience everywhere else. I plan to buy another guitar, and will not go anywhere but Westcoast. Every instrument, amp and accessory there is carefully chosen, and I know that whatever I buy there will be of the best quality and at the best price. I also know that I will be treated well and welcomed to come back to visit. I have been back many times. I go to Westcoast for lessons, to buy and talk instruments and music, but I also go there to be with good, friendly people and great players.
