Banana Chocolate Chip, Battlefield Road (chocolate with raspberry truffles), Coffee Heath sundae. Very tasty! A very friendly and efficient group. They had a bunch of people show up at the same time, but were able to serve everyone quickly and cheerfully. Their vibe was outstanding. West Side... West Side is an idyllic business; the location and the total ice cream vibe is excellent - it could be in a Hallmark movie. It's really special. People - including myself - love it and for good reasons. There's room to grow and set the bar higher for this young terrific business. The staff is terrific but the system (or lack thereof) to process orders for people waiting in line is innefficient. It's a tad congested and it's not optimized - waiting 30 minutes while on a summer date is OK, but that is probably a small portion of the patrons. West Side is expensive and you get what you pay for: premium ice cream. I'd suggest more direct customer interaction in order to Scoop new ideas such as creating unique 'Ben and Jerry' type favorite flavors. This spot is always really nice. The ice cream is super creamy, and they have flavors for just about anyone. Their chocolate varieties are especially good! The staff are always friendly, even when there's a really long line, and it has a very welcoming atmosphere. The interior has seating for a few people, and so does the outside, so whether you want to enjoy the sun or cool off in the ac, there's a spot for you. West Acton also has a lot of seating, so you can take your ice cream and go wherever you want. They also accept online orders, which is easier sometimes. read more

My friend and I came here around 3:30 and the place was barely crowded. We got served after a couple minutes which I found weird. I got the chocolate caramel brownie. I had this flavor a couple times so I knew it was good. However, I have a couple of complaints. The ice cream is not uniform in the shape it is supposed to be. I would like it in the shape it is supposed to be so it doesn't get all over the place. Besides, the flavor is really good, very chocolatey which I like, and has a good amount of brownie chunks. I unfortunately have to give a less-than-glowing review. The taste is acceptable, nothing particularly memorable, but it's dominated by an overly sugary flavor that leaves it tasting flat overall. In addition, it seems to contain a preservative or synthetic additive that can irritate even those with very mild sensitivities, myself included. read more

Checked out this ice cream spot when I was in Harvard, MA. The place is nice and big inside and has ample space outdoors which makes it a great option for a hot day! They're only allowing 1-2 customers inside and the way finding is easy to follow. I really like that the menu is nice and big and placed outdoors so everyone in line goes through it (by the time you order you know what you're getting .. hopefully). This place always has a long line outside and I can see why. The ice cream is made in-house and is, without a doubt, high quality. Texture is creamy and smooth. Having tried the black raspberry and coffee flavors, I was definitely more impressed by the coffee. They use local coffee beans and the caffeine flavor was no joke. Hints of bitterness were just enough to launch the scoop into the above-average category for me. I wish the small size allowed for choosing 2 different flavors, as their "1 scoop" is the size of 2 large scoops, so it's a bit much for just 1 flavor. Prices are a little steep, but you could realistically get away with getting the size right below the small to make your wallet hurt less. read more

Simply put: I have never been disappointed by a scoop from West Side. I may just have an affinity for ice cream, but I can point to other establishments where I have been disappointed before. Not so at West Side. Beyond just the friendly staff (who I can personally attest, are very interested in making any trip enjoyable for visitors), the ice cream is damn good to boot. There are some WSC-staples I can talk up nonstop (like Green Monster or PB Cup), but the real secret sauce is West Sides' rotating cast of seasonal ice cream flavors. Other nearby establishments seem to try and replicate the magic rotation WSC has mastered, but none come close to perfecting their charm. Whether it be the Battle Road (chocolate swirled with raspberry), or the Bourbon Praline (order a pint/quart EARLY in advance for Fathers' Day), West Side delivers consistent, delicious, and smooth-tasting ice cream every trip. It doesn't stop at ice cream scoops though--the ice cream pies are some of the best around (dare I say, THE best), and any holiday celebration would be infinitely better with a WSC ice cream pie in the mix (order these early too). The staff seem to have mastered their pie-making craft, and the "preset" pies you can order separate of custom pies (also recommend) are to die for. Finally, I'll give props to the staff one last time. As a previous employee, not only is management extremely well versed in the fine art of customer service, but they've imparted a well-picked staff with their same sensibilities. This staff is a testament to the good hiring practices, and it helps that the kids they hire know the regulars. If I have friends/family/visitors in the area looking to get ice cream, I will forever point them in the direction of West Side Creamery. You can't go wrong with a West Side scoop. read more

ice cream is good, i have two issues 1) service - you cant have everyone working on online orders as the line and walk-in customers pile up. literally nobody was helped inside the store for 5 mins while the three scoopers worked on online orders. 2) false advertising - you cant put "oreo" next to the cookies and creme flavor sign and not use oreos. Flavors come through without relying on tons of sugar as a crutch--it's more about the butterfat. Limited seating indoors, two large picnic tables outdoors. I love the homemade ice cream here. There are always fun new flavors and they are reasonably priced.

So realistically this is more of a 3.5 than a 4 but I'd rather round up than down... I've got a list of things I do love about West Side (those are down below) but I'm going to just start with the reason they're not getting 5 stars: * The toppings. This had happened sporadically in the past but is now turning into a regular thing and not in a good way: they cannot seem to sort out how to put toppings on. On more than a handful of occasions at this point I have ordered ice cream with a sauce and more frequently than not these days- you get a drizzle. Literally less than a teaspoons worth of sauce. Most recently I had this happen with a friend who ordered whipped cream and hot fudge... They put the hot fudge over the whipped cream and again... a drizzle. Everyone knows that a sauce goes UNDER the whipped cream and it's not supposed to be a tiny drizzle. It would be less obnoxious if they did not also charge you almost a dollar for your drizzle. Additionally the other toppings- they used to be decent about this but this is a consistent issue now as well- if you order a small with some toppings they previously would put it in a regular size cup just to make it so the toppings would fit. However these days, now you're more likely to get a regular sized ice cream which isn't what you ordered and toppings that then fall on the ground. ALL OF THAT SAID- I will still be going back. There are still lots of things to love. I will probably just remain heartbroken that Friendlys and DQ are still better at serving up PB sauce. The GOOD things (and really I'm sure there's more that I'm not thinking of) * The ice cream is delicious. Like REALLY delicious. * The flavor selection is great. They've got classic core flavors plus some great twists on favorites (pumpkin Oreo! Cookie Monster?!) that are seriously, so good. * The location is great. I love having somewhere I can go in town and the hours are excellent. * The service has always been pretty friendly * The sizing is a pretty good bang for your buck. * Ice cream pies! I ordered one for my sons birthday and was NOT disappointed. And last but not least- they stay involved in the community.
