The light fixtures are nice but the bright menu screens and uncomfortably tall stools make for an uncomfortable experience. My coffee was full of grounds at the bottom and very tasteless for Cafe Umbria coffee. The barista was incredibly friendly and kind but it was also just too expensive for a drip coffee that didnt taste good ... Sadly, I will not be going back. Hard to compete with Cafe Fiore and The Nook directly across the street. read more

Meh. Super excited to support the new local business. (Skipped Fiore to try this place) The coffee wasnt that great. Free poured my latte so it was almost all foam. Tasted burned. 1st attempt --- but will try again hopefully will be better. Very bright inside, almost like being inside a lightbulb. Hope some art arrives soon. I walked in the morning WSG opened and was a bit of a tool to the young lady behind the counter. Questioning West Seattle's need for yet another coffee shop. With no hesitation, manager Michelle, schooled me on what differentiates WSG from the rest of the shops down the street. Loved her aggressive enthusiasm and her lighthearted delivery describing their coffee roasts, the local pastry companies they buy from, etc. WSG has been a happy habit ever since. The best Chai lattes!!! They don't use the standard chai out of a box like everyone else. They have a local vendor that they get it from. I love this place! It's clean, friendly, great coffees and teas, and now they have wine!! The ladies that work here are so sweet and friendly with my children. There are always police and firefighters in here who are also super friendly with all the kids and adults too. What's not to love about this place?!? read more

I absolutely love West Seattle Grounds. It is so cute and cosy: the perfect place to hang out with friends for a cup of coffee or to enjoy ice cream. It's very kid friendly and the staff are extremely kind and helpful. The decor there is nice and welcoming plus they have a TV that shows the latest news and the time, which is nice if you want to quickly grab a cup of coffee and then head to work. They'll also give you a discount if you live in the neighborhood area. I have a severe nut allergy which they took very seriously and made sure my food wasn't even near nuts as to not risk contamination. I go there often, and absolutely love it. (Get the Affogato, it's so good! They will also substitute the coffee in it with hot chocolate for kids if you ask for it at no extra cost!) read more

Consistently fast and great coffee drinks! Good selection too and great for anyone with a lactose allergy, for example, their egg nog can be made without milk!! I've been coming to West Seattle Grounds since it opened last Fall and I have to say I just love it. The staff is always so great and it's also a quiet and clean place to bring your laptop and get work done. I'm also a big matcha gal & they make theirs the traditional way using a whisk and ceramic bowl!! Really love the shaken iced lattes. Makes a frothy, cold drink and I appreciate that I'm not getting ripped off by a cup of ice. The staff is friendly- the perfect amount of chatty that isn't forced or awkward. The atmosphere is perfect for being productive and getting work accomplished. Sometimes I can't decide where I want to go work for a few hours, and then I find myself parking at West Seattle Grounds. Higher seating/table options are awesome for alternating between sitting and standing. Bright and light filled, drip coffee and americanos are excellent, and the staff (especially Michelle!) is warm and welcoming. The egg sandwiches and prepackaged sandwiches and wraps make it pretty easy to stay for awhile. read more

Cute building but they missed the mark on style. Like they tried and they missed, which is kind of worse than not trying. There's like 25 clear globe lights with Edison bulbs in them, and the seating is odd. I could get past it if they had great coffee but the espresso was burnt. West Seattle Grounds has quickly become my new go to in the mornings and especially on the weekends. The decor is modern and inviting. Coffee is ok. Hard to mess up Americanos but lacks taste. Tried coming in multiple times trying the various coffees but mostly bitter. Service is good but the seats are extremely uncomfortable. As a neighborhood coffee shop, hard to support a place when the owners frequently park their vehicles in the no parking space that's there so that fire trucks can move out of street since there is a fire station near by. read more

Dont like this place. Beautiful decor, but coffee isn't nearly as good as Cafe Fiore. Milk was overheated, no nice foam. If You want to have properly made coffee from Umbria, go to Pioneer Square. Seems like this place could hire a 2nd barista. The girl who was working this morning seemed very overwhelmed being the only person working. The wait took 10 mins for a 12oz dirty chai and breakfast sandwich. The barista remembered the drink but forgot the sandwich which extended the already long wait time. She didn't seem apologetic and more annoyed . Probably because she doesn't have any help. Dirty chai came out Luke warm. Very disappointed with the overall experience. My consistent irritation is with the clueless clientele that camp out with their headphones on having business phone meeting for hours on end. Its a small shop so there's no escaping it. The atmosphere is cold and uninviting. White prison walls with no art on them. Coffee is meh. I've had better elsewhere. I asked for a donut on a Sunday morning and they said they only carry them on certain days.....so then why are they even on the menu?
