We were looking for authentic MD pit bbq that we could bike to. Perfection! Quick counter service. Daily specials available but we just wanted the classic gigantic pit beef sandwich with horseradish. Thoroughly enjoyed it with a side of their homemade old bay chips. Classic Maryland craving met. We stopped in for lunch. Great BBq spot. Small mom and pop bbq place. But man they know what they are doing there. Got a lil bit of every style your looking for .... Sweet Bbq, Reg BBq Carolina vinegar style, Mustard BBQ and a few others. All the meats are delicious... the pit beef, the pulled pork, the sausage, the turkey. They have something for everybody... and its all good....baby,baby. Seriously , the baked beans qite possibly are the best baked beans I may have ever eaten in my life. Fries were cooked perfect and tasted great. Cole slaw ....delicious. And if you want some cookies or brownies...yup ..they got em, delicious too. So with that being said Ill be back way more times then I need to.. and when my wife starts complaining about my weight I'lll just send them to West River and tell her talk to them. The sandwiches and pulled pork are excellent at West River Pit BBQ. They also make good size chocolate chip cookies during the week for dessert. I stopped in for lunch one day to try it out and got 3 Beef Sliders (medium) with some skin-on fries. The fries were delicious, but the sliders were a little more bland than I anticipated. For a BBQ place, I had hoped for a larger selection of sauce options as well. They could use some kid options on their menu as well so that I can buy for the family. Having a restaurant like this has been long overdue in Soco. The food and prices are great. The customer friendly manner in-which they interact with their community is awesome. The establishment is only a few months old, but they take a lot of pride in the customer service they provide. I wish this family operated `business longevity and much success. One of the perks is you get to watch your meat being sliced (not deli meat) for your sandwich right in front of you. My favorite sandwich use to be the piled high beef; that was until I tried the pork loin. But then I was introduced to the mega burger. The flavor and size of this quarter pounder-plus is a winner. Well that is until I had the ribs. Just enough smoke flavor, with tender meat falling off the bone with each bite. But wait there is a triple sandwich. It's like a club on a Kaiser, with three different meats (ergo; triple) piled high. All those flavors meshed together -- wonderful. This Sunday we will be getting buffalo wings to enjoy during the football game. All the menu items are winners if you can just decide what to get. There are other great items like the open faced beef and fries, the turkey sandwich, the different half smokes/sausages, etc. Did I mention the homemade chips, and the catering business? You have to go to this carryout! We had the beef and a southern bulldog but with sausage and smoked turkey. Everything from the fries to the coleslaw were the best we've had. Portions were substantial. We will be back often and have to try to make it on a Wednesday for the Dalton Special. A burger with stacked beef. I just went here today after my son came home yesterday raving about how amazing this restaurant is! After today my wife and I agree with him! My son got another BBQ pork sandwich (which I tried and it is incredibly good!) and my wife and I both got pit beef sandwiches. The beef was very juicy and moist, with a great smoky taste....EXTREMELY impressive! Great sauces too! We also had fries that were very crispy but light inside....seemed to be double fried if I had to guess. The baked beans were also unbelievable, with a great sweet/smoked flavor and I saw some pork BBQ in there too! I live in Edgewater which is not super close but from now on I will be driving here when the family is craving BBQ! I can't wait to try the ribs and other selections on the menu! This was our first time here. The place is clean and the help was polite. I ordered the pit beef sandwich with coleslaw. When I got home I noticed that the beef was very rare which, I don't care for at all. I took a few bites and found it rather bland and the cole slaw, well there was hardly any at all on the sandwich. I have it 3 stars for a good size sandwich and the kettle chips were great. I will give it another try to see if it's better next time. read more

Great business, great food. I was looking for a place to get a good sandwich and stumbled across West River Pit. The guy that was slicing the meat was super nice and helpful. He was authentic. He walked me through the menu and I settled on the Tuesday special, the open face beef sandwich and the pit beef Kaiser roll sandwich. I also was told that the scratch kettle chips are made fresh every morning....so I picked up a bag of that too. Right by the basket of chips is a basket of individually wrapped homemade (super large )cookies and brownies. Soooo.........I also picked up some Heathbar Chocolate Chip cookies. Let me tell you at the time of this review I have only eaten the open face beef sandwich.....because I. am. stuffed. DELICIOUS. It is a slice of thick bread, piled high with shaved beef then crispy fries are loaded on top and then the whole thing is covered with thick creamy gravy. I had to eat it with a fork. It tasted like home and how sandwiches made with love are supposed to taste. I was very impressed and inspired that good businesses still exist that pride themselves on serving great food.
