Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and sat in the bar area. I had the southwest salad with grilled chicken and it was good. I had asked for several modifications given food allergies and they were accommodating. My friend had the burger and fries - which she said was tasty but the burger was overcooked. A large party came in while we were there and that definitely impacted the service but overall it was a good lunch. read more

2 stars is not about the food. The guacamole and salsa was fresh and very tasty. The fish and chips was a great combo of crunchy and perfect flake. The featured wine, a CA Pinot, was terrific. No, the food was really fine. But the service? We had to ask two busboys to find our server, who eventually made her way over. The thing is, once a diner like me feels ignored or poorly served, I can't enjoy my meal with the same gusto. I resent waiting for service beyond a reasonable period. And the inattentive service lasted throughout the meal. This means that, sadly, we won't be returning to west on center. There are too many good restaurants in west Roxbury to sit frustrated for good but not stellar meals. read more

We didn't feel like going deep the city on a busy Friday night so we decided to just go local so if you are looking for a restaurant to go to without having to deal with bustle and hustle of trying to get in the city then I recommend you try this place. The food was really good and the price was descent. I had the pan seared scallops which were very good and my husband had the steak tip that was cooked just right and the waiter was very attentive. read more

My entire family loves going to West on Centre. Whether its a date night, family dinner, girls night out or a major celebration West is where you will find us. One of the best parts of West is our waitress Dominique. Literally for years now she has been serving us. We do not even have to say our drink of choice - and they change seasonally. We do not have to specify our particular food needs- she knows them. She is like a family member greeting us and making us feel so welcome and comfortable. We feel very grateful that we always know the good food and drinks and amazing service. I must also add that we have had ALL the wait staff over the years and they are so so good to us. I will make a point to learn all of their names for they are fabulous!! read more

I was making sales calls in the area and finally had the opportunity to stop by. The staff are very friendly and professional. I parked on the street, which wasn't a problem today. I ordered the West Burger, which came with fries. When I got home, the fries were a little overdone, BUT they were still crispy!!! I'll take that any day! The burger was really good too. Been here once before and it was great, so I took the whole family (7 people + a newborn) tonight. Food was still great, but the service was TERRIBLE. We had a 7pm reservation, had our orders taken promptly, and the server said she'd be right back with bread. At 7:45, we still hadn't gotten our salads OR our bread and everyone was getting restless. I would've said something sooner to the server, but she hadn't come back to the table for 40 minutes so I had to get up and ask food runners for bread. They sent our server over, who explained that she had delegated the bread task to someone else - who had dropped the ball. Who ever heard of a server delegating their job to someone else? It's just bread. Get the bread. Everyone ravenously devoured the bread, and our salads came, but at 8:05 still no sign of entrees. The server asked if we wanted more bread, and I said yes. From this point forward she must've been pissed off or something, because she started acting passive aggressively. She practically threw the second round of bread on the table (in the same basket, with the same empty little cup of spread for the bread). Someone else delivered all of our food, and toward the end of our meal she started warming up to us again, but I was really disappointed that I talked this place up, brought in my family, and had a terrible experience. I'd also like to mention that the manager was working the line a lot of the time and never once came over to our half of the restaurant. I wanted to give him a heads when we were waiting 45 minutes for bread, and spent 10 minutes trying to catch his eye but he never even glanced in our general direction. Maybe they were understaffed or something, but c'mon folks. Do your jobs. Servers not serving and managers not managing? Sheesh. read more

I love sitting by the fireplace in the bar side, and had lunch sitting there 5-10 times before COVID. The coziness of that spot and the short walk from my house is why I went. More bluntly, I would not go out of my way to eat West in Center's food. Most things I've had (risottos, pizzas, Buddha bowls, veg burgers, etc.) have been fine. Nothing has been great, and I can't even think of anything that was good other than a corn risotto 6+ years ago. Nothing has been bad; it's just not good either. Most dishes suffer, to my taste, from adding ingredients that only seem to be there either to justify a price point or because someone is chasing trends. For example, there was a period of when most of the menu seemed to have truffle oil. That was later replaced by almost everything being served with aioli or crema. West in Centre would be so much better if it decided on what it wanted to do well and focused the menu on that. read more

Went here on a Saturday night and easily got table. The place was crowded but not full. I sat on the restaurant side (not the bar side) - the space was very nice and the large windows made it feel open. The bread they serve at the tables is delicious, along with the spread. I ordered the West Burger which was also very good, however, I was a little disappointed that I ordered it medium and it was served medium well. Fast & friendly service! I would definitely go back here to try more dishes on their menu! read more

Good drinking place. My mojito was great. Food was ok. I had dry rubbed wings, truffle fries, and deep fried broccoli. Wings spice was good but the skin was soft and soggy. Wings needed to be ovened so skin would be crispy. Fries were bland. They need to put some parmesan cheese on them. Definitely Taste of truffle oil but I've had truffle fries at the Met Bar. These were overcooked. Fried broccoli was ok but nothing spectacular. Take off on fried tempura. I really think that if you want to drink, this is the place. Otherwise, the food was not spectacular. Pork chop was fine but the sweet potatoes stuck to my teeth and had some difficulty prying it from the plate so I left it. And the squash was cold. Mentioned it to the server and he just laughed. I go to West pretty regularly since it is right up the street. We typically sit in the bar but have tried the dining room as well. It is a nice warm atmosphere in both areas. The bartenders are all great - Michelle in particular always treats us well. Food: West hands down has the best burger in town, and it is always cooked perfectly (too often, places have a tendency to over cook burgers). And they have great fries! There is a decent variety on the menu with some apps, salads, pizzas, sandwiches, and entrees so there is something for everyone. But don't get too attached to any one item. The menu changes frequently. I can appreciate this and welcome new options, but with some things, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Chicken wings - good flavor, spicy but not too spicy (West should have kept their "West wings". they had an amazing flavor and were normal chicken wings not the lollipop style which has a small extra bone in then you need to be careful of) Fried Calamari - Overall this is good and comes with marinara sauce - they are always generous in providing us with extra sauce when we request it. The calamari is "sometimes" over cooked but still has good flavor. Quesadilla - the current one as of this writing is a chipotle braised chicken. While I expected a few sparse pieces of meat amongst a bunch of cheese, this quesadilla was PACKED with meat. But beware of adding a "side" of guac that will cost you $4...yes I said $4 dollars for a very small portion. French Dip - No longer on the menu! There are not many places that do a decent french dip but West's was actually pretty good. I was hoping to go back and have it again but it is no longer a menu item. I hope West brings this back! Entrees - I've tried a few of the entrees and while they are good, none of them WOW'd me. Brunch - Delicious homemade bloody mary, and good omelettes. Prices: The food and drink prices are as you would expect for a Boston area restaurant which isn't cheap but won't necessarily break the bank either. Except for the $4 side of guac. Overall - West is a great place to catch a game or participate in their Sunday night trivia night. We'll be back!! read more

Great restaurant! I proposed to my girlfriend here, and the staff did a tremendous job of making it a special night for my fiancé and I. First of all, our dinner was great- try the teriyaki chicken dish, you won't be disappointed. Prior to dinner, I called the restaurant and asked if they can write a special message on the dessert. They, of course, obliged and when the dessert came out, my fiancé and I were both very impressed! The chef did a beautiful job, and actually came out of the kitchen afterwards to congratulate us. After the proposal, the server brought us two glasses of champagne-on the house- which was really nice. It was truly a very special evening. If you go on the weekend, I would suggest making reservations as it gets pretty crowded. Great restaurant with great staff- I highly recommend! read more

I'm conflicted on this restaurant. There are times I have gone where I felt it was perfect and other times I've gone and I've felt it lacking. The food is ok. Nothing outstanding but not bad either. I've found it convenient to meet friends there for a drink and bite to eat. Last spring my husband and sat on the patio I found that visit/setting absolutely delightful so I highly recommend that. They always seem to have a great cocktail list and I think that is another plus. Overall, I think it's a good, convenient local restaurant. read more

West On Centre used to be my favorite place to go but after sitting at the chef's table and witnessing how the food is made I will not be going back. 1) Cross contamination off meat 2) Chefs picking at food to taste it with no gloves 3) batch of fries sitting on counter. Whenever an order of fries was needed they would refry.. Why aren't the fries made to order 4) I saw the chef remove an order of fries from a platter and throw it back into the batch of cooked fries 5) cooked chicken sitting on counter uncovered 6) gloves wasn't worn by half the chef's 7) guacamole was made with no gloves 8) burger was over cooked Really surprised by what I saw..... read more

Fantastic food but lackluster service. Waited forever to have order taken after being seated. No refill offered for coffee and cream came well after coffee delivered. Servers seemed more interested in socializing with each other than attending to guests. Update - Went again today to see if previous experience was a fluke. Told coffee would come after a fresh pot was made yet it was like warm. After 30 minutes without even an offer for a coffee refill flagged down server inquiring on meal. Apparently it was sent to the wrong table and she then expedited order. Food was great but service is consistently less than the best. Will not return. read more

I've been coming to West for 9 years and liked it but the last two times something has changed. Three weeks ago I got a smoked statler chicken. It was steaming hot on arrival, too hot to eat! It was so overcooked that I took it home for the dog! I was too tired to send it back and figured it was a one off. Tonight I ordered a salad with a grilled salmon add on, specified medium rare. This weekend my fiance had her bridal shower here at West on Centre. Her family rented their downstairs room which was a great little space with a back patio area. The management and staff here at this restaurant were amazing and made our experience of setting up an easy one. While the ladies enjoyed the bridal shower, I had the chance to grab a quick bite to eat before heading out for a few hours. The food here was delicious and my favorite was the fish and chips. I also heard that the steak and chicken dishes catered for the bridal shower were incredible as well. In the end the bridal party had a blast at this restaurant and talked about how great the staff was. They did an incredible job of taking care of all the guests which made their time here even more enjoyable. The only minor inconvenience is that parking can be a little tight but overall this is a great place! read more

We went to the early Easter Breakfast brunch Buffet it had a very limited menu only scrambled eggs , no omelettes, no eggs benny ,no seafood excempt smoked salmon, no salads except fruit, no cakes or pies. Not worth $38 pp + they added a20% tip so almost $100 Carving station of ham + flank steak were good Hubby liked the blueberry pancakes+ french toast.Service was good, coffee was good too. read more

WOO HOO! I went last Thursday with a friend and sat in the main dining room. The tables were VERY spaced out, so we felt safe and appreciated the distancing. The bar looked more crowded, so if you are nervous, please be aware of that. Anyway, we had the halloumi, dumplings, and fries for apps and then the pappardelle, goat cheese and squash pizza, and scallops with risotto for mains. All were absolutely delicious! The drinks were equally good. I never get dessert, but my friend wanted to try the chocolate cake -- soooo incredible that I took some home to hubs. The service was excellent, as well. It is certainly a bit nerve wracking going out right now, but the folks @ West On Centre made us feel right at home. Please go support this fantastic local business! read more

This is the single worst restaurant I've ever dined at in Boston hands down. If I could give zero stars I would. After a long day out without getting a chance to eat i was really eager to try this place. I ordered the roast chicken special with pan gravy, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. The chicken came out so over cooked it was not edible at all. Very dry and hard to cut. It was supposed to have a pan gravy but instead had some weird, cold butternut squash topping that wasn't anything resembling gravy. Nowhere in the menu mentioned butternut squash sauce. The mashed potatoes were cold and gluey. The broccoli was advertised as sautéed garlic broccoli but it was frozen broccoli that had been steamed not sautéed. I sat while my entire party ate and finished their meals; no one came to ask about our dinner in fact we didn't see our waiter at all during the meal. Finally when everyone was done the waiter came by and I let him know my dinner was not edible. I was not offered anything else from the menu to replace my meal I was not able to eat. I was mostly ignored and then my plate was cleared without any questions and not one person on staff came to ask what was wrong. My dinner was removed from the bill but it is odd I wasn't able to order anything else as a replacement. It was a $24 entree surely I could have found something else to order. read more

Went out on a Friday night date after coming for a couple after work drinks prior. I liked the unpretentious pleasantness of the place. The service today was attentive but not invasive, something a lot of places get wrong . The waitress was very kind and patient. Really nice, almost surprisingly so, for a date. Highly recommend. I was glad that I made a reservation as it got a bit busy around 6. We started with the chips and guac. The guac really was fresh and a nice way to begin. She ordered fish and chips. It was a heaping portion and quality was excellent which isn't usually the case when you get basically a school of fish served to you. I went with the grilled chicken Cesar. Many places seem to get the flavors a bit off with this simple dish in my experience - either chicken is under seasoned or over cooked. This one was fantastic. The chicken was well seasoned with some salt and coarse black pepper and there were 2 types of crouton which really made the salad delicious. The dressing was flavorful but not overpowering. It was definitely a meal. Overall a fantastic experience. There are very few places you can go out to in a Friday night, have a nice meal while being able to hear each other talk. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE A FOOD ALLERGY! My issue with this business is regarding recurrent cross contamination within the kitchen (read the other reviews), poor customer service, and lack of accountability. I ordered a vegan dish, a cauliflower gnocchi, informed the woman taking my order that I have a dairy and seafood allergy, and I am vegan and do not eat meat. I also informed her that last time I ordered here, a piece of meat accidentally made its way into my dish, and I wasn't able to eat it. I did not ask for a refund at the time of first offense. When it happened again this time, I called and spoke to the manager. The manager feigned concern, then proceeded to tell me I was not eligible for a refund, unless I drove back to the restaurant to show him the mistake. He wanted to see if it was a "substantial" piece of meat. This restaurant can not be trusted by patrons with food allergies! I was entitled to a refund. And the manager was very rude and unprofessional. read more

Very disappointed, ordered Haddock when it arrived the mashed potatoes were cold and my wife was half way through her meal when the waitress came back and asked if she wanted my meal boxed. I said the potatoes are cold , my wife is almost done. She said the Kitchen was backed up . (Not my Problem). She returned it with the heated lukewarm potatoes . No manager came over to inquire or apologize. Water glass was filled once as I watched the two individuals responsible for filling them just chatting by the kitchen. Not a good experience. read more
