Coming from NY, I'm used to bao buns being marshmallow-soft and pillowy, but these were a hard, and the pork belly itself was quite tough. Our wonderful waitress noticed I only took one bite and brought the manager over. He explained that the cut is naturally mostly fat, which I understand, but the texture just wasn't quite right because it should be tender not tough. I declined a replacement dish, and he kindly credited it on our bill, though the interaction felt a little awkward. My husband's salmon unfortunately had a very heavy mustard flavor. The spinach farrotto underneath was quite salty. Since there isn't a kids menu which is fine, my daughter ordered the burger plain, but it wasn't really a hit for her. My coconut guava Paloma was okay definitely the best part of my meal though it tasted a little artificial. The ambiance has a lot of potential, and they had live music playing. However, it was a bit too loud for the space, forcing guests to raise their voices just to speak to each other. We also noticed our table hadn't been wiped down thoroughly before we sat down. The absolute silver lining of our evening was our waitress. She was incredibly sweet, highly attentive, and took great care of us. She is truly the reason I am giving 3 stars.She mentioned that they offer a completely different menu for brunch. Because the setting is so pretty and the service was so good, we might give them another chance for brunch down the road, but we likely wouldn't return for dinner. I picked the place because I'm trying to find a good Mexican Restaurant in my local area. The place was easy to find and parking is accessible because it's in a business park. There were specials on a board, outside the door. Upon going inside, we arrived to an almost empty restaurant. There was a lady with an elementary school aged girl eating across the aisle. We were the only two families there. The chops and drinks came right away. The chips tasted like they were store bought and the red salsa was decent. It was tasty and not spicy (I like spicy). The waiter came around twice to ask if we were ready to order. We needed mire time to peruse the menu - they have many menu items. We both ordered the brisket street tacos al vapor : an order that includes 4 tacos, with steamed taco shells, plus fixings (Spanish rice and refried beans.) The waiter brought a plate to each of us with 2 street tacos. I asked him if this were our entre because it wasn't as described in the menu. He just looked and smiled. I repeated that this was not my order, as he just stood there, looking and grinning. After an uncomfortable period of time, he acknowledged that this was not our order. So I asked if we could get what we ordered. He took the plates he brought back to the kitchen. I was totally underwhelmed by the look of the brisket tacos - they looked like boil in bag fare. I asked my son if he wanted to leave because to me, it looked like a good idea. We are used to the brisket tacos served in San Antonio, Texas. Brisket is cooked on the grill. The tacos served at this establishment didn't look like it had ever seen a grill. He brought the corrected order- we should have left. The brisket looked like it had been boiled and chopped. The tortillas were steamed to the point that they fell apart when handled. The meat was not seasoned and it was bland. No amount of salsa made it better because you couldn't get the tacos to your mouth without them falling apart. The tortilla should, at least, stand up to the filling. In my experience, Mexican restaurants that cook food from scratch really take pride in their Spanish rice and beans. The rice and beans were downright nasty and unappealing. The rice had no seasoning and seemed thin and watery. It had no taste- no seasoning, onion, garlic, cilantro, (olives). The beans were a tasteless congealed mess. I left both sides on the plate. To say I was underwhelmed was is the understatement of the year!! Señor Agave, you'd have to do much better to get my return business. I don't know if you were staffed in the kitchen - the restaurant was empty. If that's what your usual 2pm looks like, the food and lack of attentiveness/communication between the cooks & servers might explain it. I did ask to speak to a manager because I thought it was important to discuss our experience. The young man just stood there, squinting and shaking his head as acknowledgment. No feedback, no apologies, no nothing. I was extremely disappointed in the caliber of the food and the lack of communication from the lackadaisical staff. Do better!! Maybe food prices are driving this result - I don't know. I do know that you need to fix it if you want business.
