Westend is quite the place! My dogs have never liked getting baths (from me), but they do LOVE spa day. I swear they know when they're supposed to go. They line up at the door and bark at me. The part I like best is that I can drop them off before work and pick them up after work. No hassle about getting them in the middle of the day - scheduling is sooooo much easier that way. Of course, they're clean and cuddly when I get them back. After their day of excitement with the other dogs and the great staff at Westend, they just want to cuddle and take a nap when we get home. read more

The people were rude, they did not do a complete groom and charged me more than the quote I got over the phone. They did not clip my dog's nails, while other groomers had, and they then lectured me about bringing him in more often.... $80 for my 20lbs dog! And I had to recut his face and trim his nails because the groomers there did NOT! I will never go back! and I hope everyone here that reads this will choose another place. read more

West End has been our go to groomers for 15 years running. We have had three different dogs and each was so excited to go to the loving environment at West End. We have gone regularly and find them so flexible to our schedules and situations. And when two of those dogs eventually died of old age, the wonderful groomers sent condolence cards to us that everyone had signed. We were so touched. I really think that Fran, Kit, Joey, Ann, and company care about the dogs and have the pets' best interests and health at the center of all they do. The dogs get great cuts and shampoos. Even more importantly, they really take each dog's personality into account and just LOVE dogs. I just think these are super high quality people doing wonderful work. Whenever I walk my little shi tzu mix, people stop me to comment on how cute she looks. read more

I took Randi, my 14 year old pug, to West End Grooming for a bath, nail trim, and brush out. They did a fabulous job!! If you've experienced pug shedding, you'll know that it is a constant battle! I LOVE west End Grooming. I was very apprehensive of taking my dog to a groomer because you never know hat you are going to get but I was so happy with their work. They are true dog lovers and really do care about their work. My dog loves going there and is always excited when we walk through the door. I was in a rush one time and had to get my dog groomed and used another groomer because I had no choice and was very disappointed with their work and I ended up taking my dog back to West End when they could fit me in a week later. Wonderful! After an extremely negative experience elsewhere, West End Groomers have been so kind to my dog. To help him get past the traumatizing grooming experience he had before we started coming here, they let us bring him in just to meet them, then had us bring him in just for a bath, before trying any grooming. Now he's happy and jumps out of the car as soon as we pull in to their parking lot. When I picked up my 5 year old cocker spaniel a few months ago, I expected to be pleased like we were the last dozen times we have taken him. The first clue this was not going to be the case was when they asked if he had been in a fight recently. I said no because he is an indoor dog and is always on a leash for walks. I said the dried "blood" could have been from the lasagna he ate the night before, a comment she would later use to ridicule me for saying. When we got in the car he shook his head and blood went everywhere from his ear. When I went back in with him to see what happened, they said they told me he had a cut on his ear. I disagreed because he has never bled before, and the amount of blood that was coming out I surely would have noticed before. Kit, the owner, said they could not have possibly done it and that they are not PetsMart. She offered to give the hair cut for free and give me a free vet visit because she could not stop the bleeding. I paid for the haircut but did take him to the vet because the bleeding would not stop. The vet at Lake Austin Animal Hospital said it was a fresh cut. Because our dog had gone to West End Grooming his whole life, and after much discussion, we decided it was a mistake we could deal with, and we booked another appointment. When I dropped him off, the older worker asked if we figured out what happened to his ear. I said yes, that they had cut it. She began to deny it, saying that that was not true. I said the vet had said it was a fresh cut that they had probably done. I was surprised and did not want to have this conversation again. When I picked him up Kit was there at the counter. After I paid, she asked me why I had said the vet said it was their fault and why I had brought it up again. I said the other, older lady had asked me if I had figured out why he had a cut, and that I did not bring it up. She continued to say that she called Lake Austin Animal Hospital about the incident five months ago and that they told her they did not tell me that West End Grooming caused the cut ear. I told her they told me that it was a fresh cut. Kit then said yes it was because they removed the scab. I asked if that is what a fresh cut means. I asked for the older lady to come out and correct Kit that I did not bring up the incident. I then said I will not be coming back and Kit said that was fine, she was "going to invite [me] not to bring him in anymore." They were nice to us until they cut my dog's ear, then they were rude to me. I agree with many professional animal groomers that Texas should have to license the industry so we know we are going to professionals. read more

Our puppy came home with a gash that still hasn't healed and it's been three weeks, nails that weren't cut and ear hair that wasn't trimmed properly. The scab on my dog is still there and so noticeable that strangers on the street ask what happened to my dog. When I called West End to tell them about the problems, Kit asked me to come back so she could take a look at the issues herself. She was halfheartedly apologetic and said that if they had seen the cut they would have told me about it, and that usually when cuts happen they take the dogs to the vet first and then tell their owners. She offered to pay for any vet bills incurred in treating the cut. She also said that she double checked my dog's chart and saw that she was in fact a good dog, so she can't justify how this could have happened. She didn't have an explanation as to why the other services were not performed properly, only saying that "other shops don't even include nails and ears in the price." Huh? I paid for them but didn't get them--kind of a disconnect there. Not to mention that their prices are ridiculously expensive and there is a two week wait (why, I do not know!). She also didn't offer to refund my money and got defensive when I mentioned that I came to the shop because I had read good reviews and have a couple of friends who rave about them, but was leery because I had read a Yelp review that mentioned that their dog had been cut, too, and now the same thing had happened to my baby. She basically said that anyone can post negative things on the internet and that I could too.. I should also note that when I, a first-time customer, came into the shop to drop off my dog I was totally rushed by the groomer when I was trying to explain what I wanted done and when I was confirming with her to cut the nails and trim the ear hair. I got a bad vibe from the start and should have trusted my gut. The only reason I took my dog here in the first place is that if you request it they can get your dog in and out in 3 hours, which is a very nice alternative to the usual all-day grooming affair, but the sloppy work, bad attitude, expensive prices, and all around bad vibe is not worth it! I should also add that I actually did recently call them to ask for my money back but Kit was out of town. I decided over the three days that she was out of town that it wasn't really worth it and that I would just post a review. I got a call back today and wasn't able to return it for 5 hours, as I was in all-day meetings. Kit tried calling back again and left a voice mail to the extent of, "This will be the last time I will be returning your call." When I called back and asked for Kit she was busy so I said that I didn't really need to talk to her, I just wanted to know if I would be getting my money back. Kit called and basically and in her voice mail said that since I don't want to talk to her she's happy to tell me that she was going to give me my money back until she saw the lies I posted on Yelp and that I was treated more than fairly, that I waited a week to even tell her about the gash so it was probably just a hot spot, and that she is going to post a response on Yelp and tell all her groomer friends about me. I find it ironic that a person who calls herself an animal lover would try to blacklist my dog from getting groomed at other salons and that she would get so upset over a negative Yelp review to threaten me like that (when I am the one who got the less than stellar services). The reason I didn't call her right after I noticed the cut on my dog after the visit is that I was hoping that the cut would heal on its own and my husband urged me to just forget about it--that it wasn't worth the aggravation to say anything. However, after a week of it not healing, the nails that weren't cut, the ears that weren't properly trimmed, and my frustration building, I consulted my vet who told me to call them immediately. In retrospect I should have just listened to my husband and had nothing to do with them because absolutely nothing good has become of it--just a lot of negative energy. Again, I have friends who love this place, and, as Kit reminded me in her threatening voice mail, their clients love them--that's why they have a 2-week wait. It may be isolated, but I just had a horrible experience and have never experienced such terrible customer service. read more

I've used these folks for a while, but tell myself to find another place after every visit. This place is expensive, which I wouldn't mind except they have never given my Yorkie the haircut I asked for. Not once. And the price is different every time. Every visit, they manage to cut something off and/or not cut what they were supposed to cut. I point it out politely, and they apologetically make a note for next time, but next time, they ignore the whole thing and cut it however they feel like again. This time was too much. The cut was completely opposite of what I asked for. When I pointed this out and asked them to shave the ears short, the woman became very rude. She was less than gentle in handling my boy and then stuck his neck in the noose and tightened it. I told her to forget it and to give me back my boy. This place told me they wouldn't use the noose on my dog. My dog has come home from here with a limp twice. After his last trip, he kept making a throat snoring sound for several days, likely from the noose damaging his larynx. Since then he makes the throat sound every time he gets worked up. They assured me they had not used, nor would they ever use the noose with him. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but now I have no doubt. They are liars and cannot be trusted to treat your dog properly. I don't trust this place at all. Yorkies are not even supposed to wear collars because of their delicate larynx. They have no regard for the delicate nature of a Yorkie's larynx. To top it all off, after telling them they are fired today, I became even more convince these women are horrible. On this visit, I don't think he had access to water all day. He was completely parched. He cried all the way home then ran straight to his bowl and drank water like crazy. If you love your dog, don't trust them to this place. read more

I use to work at West End Grooming and I did not leave on good terms but I would like to express my frustration with a review on here about the groomer Ann. Is that review even for real? I was a groomer for years and can only imagine how matted these dogs actually were especially seeing as on 7/18/2014 this person wrote a review about Dirty Dog saying they charged her over $1000 to demat the dogs. 6 months later and the dogs that were "shaved down to the skin" by the woman she refers to as a pig are matted once again? I find this review heartless because my time working with Ann she was a very sweet and compassionate person that wanted to be a great groomer and from what I have seen from the pictures on the website she has done just that. I know that in the service industry you will not be liked by everyone but when it comes to public name calling I find that down right rude and it speaks volumes about the person throwing out the insults. read more

I have been taking my dogs to West End for 18 years. I've followed them through all of their moves as their business has grown and highly recommend them. I'm always greeted with hugs and smiles and get reports on each animal upon pick-up every time (including the cute stories of how they give their groomers kisses while they are being pampered). They are a quality team who ALWAYS put the animals' welfare first. I love that they report new growths, skin tags, etc. and mark them on their cards for future grooming sessions. Our 14 1/2 year old long-haired dachshund passed away earlier this year and I received the longest, most heart-felt note from them after he died. My 6 yr. old standard poodle, Maddy, has been going to West End since she was a puppy. Her grooming has always been immaculate. Other dog owners notice and ask were she got her hair cut. The groomers watch for problems like fatty tumors and wt. gain, etc. and tell me if there's a problem. They care about dogs and treat them with love and respect. West End rocks!! read more

We have taken our dog (55lbs) twice for walk-in nail clipping. Each time has been a great experience. Friendly, fast and really know what they are doing. They are great at putting her (and me) at ease. We haven't tried other grooming services yet - we don't really get our dog groomed - but if we do, this is where we'll go. read more

Hi there! I have been taking Snowy here for two years (maybe more). A friend who lives nearby recommended it. We have a Bichon Frise and there is a particular cut that other groomers in Austin just didn't seem to 'get.' Snowy suffered an embarrassing "poodle cut" for a year before we found this place. He loves it! Because he doesn't like to be crated and tends to step in water bowls and ruin his beautiful new 'dos, the accommodating folks at this facility came up with the plan to call us 15 minutes before he was due to be finished, so that we could get him hot off the grooming stand, avoiding the inevitable "uh-oh" which required a blow-dry and comb-out. I really thought that was a caring thing to do for a little dog who doesn't really understand what's going on. They just came up with a solution. A few times, we have forgotten our monthly appointment date and they have always been very forgiving. I like not being scolded by my service provider! I try to be respectful of their time and we like to tip our groomer to make up for any of those awkward forgetful moments. Now that we are on a solid schedule (also their idea), we are doing much better with making appointments. Snowy loves it here. There is the usual collection of dogs running around (all friendly) and really sweet, mellow people. I am very, very happy I found West End Grooming and heartily recommend it. I can't say enough good things about this place. The staff is so caring, loving, and really cares about dogs. My dog hates the groomer but when I took her to West End she was so happy. I picked her up and she was just happy, clean, and wanted to stay and play with the staff. She has never acted that way at the groomer. I will not take my dog to any other groomer again.
