Overall, I love West Elm and it's always a pleasure experience imagining items in your home as you walk around here. I'm not sure who was the guy who helped our group out as we looked for planters for a plant we are putting in our friends' soon-to-be restaurant, but he was super friendly. The negative part of our experience was dealing with the manager who wouldn't accept a return on some curtains because our friend didn't have the physical receipt with her (even though she has an account and has a large purchase history that we'd assume could be looked up). He refused to look it up for her and was very short with his responses and had a disrespectful tone. We didn't get his name but he was white and likely a gay dude (I'm gay so my gaydar is decent). Very unfortunate. It seems like we prefer the West Elm in the Chicago suburbs because it's bigger and we'll avoid this man in the future. read more

They didn't approach the other six customers who came in either. Sale items are inaccessible on racks that are not meant to actually accommodate purchases. Bought a couch for our cottage. We use it 1-2 times per month. Just after 1 year, we noted one of the power actuators stopped working-we hadn't been to the cottage for 2 months. Because it had been a year, they were going to do nothing for us. Not until I started asking for supervisors supervisors did I get anywhere with their customer service. Eventually, they gave us a $600 west Elm credit. However, they sent me a new credit card and prior to making a purchase, I reached out to customer service to ensure that the credit would get used before my card would be charged. Their answer was yes. Nope, my card was charged and now I have to make another phone call to west elm customer service which typically gets me nowhere. Within 6 months, the other power actuator stopped working. So with a $600 credit that we can't even use, we have a power reclining couch that doesn't recline. We do love how the couch looks but the value and quality are poor. Never making a furniture purchase here again. read more

Worst customer service I've ever received. Purchased 5 dining room chairs and 4 counter stools (BOTH WHITE GLOVE DELIVERY). Chairs were delivered (without notice) and dropped off on my front porch. Contacted the manager and, after several phone calls with both the manager and customer service, was told to keep chairs and that they would be assembled when counter stools were delivered. Was also told that they would issue some sort of credit for the inconvenienced. On the day the counter stools were to be delivered, I again reached out to the manager and the manager told me that he couldn't guarantee that they would assemble my chairs and suggested that I flash my eye lashes and ask them to assemble them (so inappropriate). He then proceeded to tell me to use the credit they would be issuing to hire someone to assemble them (again so inappropriate). Customer service also contacted me guaranteeing me that they would be assembled at that time. They were not assembled. Again contacted Customer Service and after going back and forth for over a week, was informed that the chairs were not going to be assembled by them. Much more to story, but just wanted to let people know how they treat their customers once they have your money. Will never purchase anything from them again and recommend no one else does. I've only stopped in a couple of times, but boy do I wish I could win the lottery so my house could look like their store! It's nice to just wander around and look. All the while casually looking at the price tags as I wonder how people afford to furnish a whole room with their stuff. I tend to keep my eye out for small, less inexpensive finds in the store. The employees have been nice when I had interaction with them. It's clean. Parking is kind of a pain but then again, it's in the Third Ward. You can purchase online and pickup in the store 2-3 hours later. They seem to have sales often, so keep an eye out for those emails. read more

Let's be clear right from the start... This review is about West Elm's corporate order and delivery management practices and is being submitted here because Williams-Sonoma Group rigidly restricts their customer's ability to leave reviews about the shoddy treatment they receive. I've made two large orders from West Elm this year, and both experiences were miserable. Here's what you can expect: 1) Your order will delayed as much as 3 months beyond its anticipated delivery date. 2) Your order may arrive with pieces missing. (And West Elm will insist you send the defective piece back before they ship a replacement.) 3) Delivery dates for *IN STOCK* items will repeatedly slip with no explanation. Even online and phone support won't be able to explain what's going on. 4) You'll be lied to by West Elm representatives about where in the pipeline your order is. 5) Your order will languish, undelivered, until you threaten West Elm with order cancellation. 6) Online furniture dimensions and specifications are inaccurate. (If you intend to do a store pickup, be aware that you may not be able to transport your item due to inaccurate specifications.) 7) If you do end up in situation (6), the extent of West Elm's assistance will be to lend you a box cutter to strip packaging from the item. 8) West Elm's delivery agent (Ryder) will collude with West Elm representatives to commit fraud with respect to initial charges. This last item is particularly egregious. West Elm policy clearly states that items for "in store delivery" *WILL NOT* be charged until an item is at the store and ready for pickup. In the case of a recent dresser purchase--an item that *WAS NOT* on backorder--for in-store pickup at Milwaukee, West Elm immediately charged the item by fraudulently marking it as "deliver to residence". Then, West Elm pushed the delivery date back 5 times, probably because they didn't actually have the item in their supply chain. 10 weeks after the order was charged, West Elm representatives claimed variously, that 1) "...the item was in the Milwaukee area, but that Ryder was refusing to deliver it to the store"; 2) "...the item hadn't yet been transported to Milwaukee; 3) "...the item was already at the store (a lie); and 4) "...the item was actually on backorder, but that West Elm couldn't refund my credit-card without cancelling the order altogether." When I actually *DID* threaten West Elm with cancellation, the item magically appeared at the store 3 days later. It boils down to this: West Elm, and by extension Williams-Sonoma Group, is a corporate predator that will lure you into a purchasing nightmare with stores full of enticing items that they have no intention of actually delivering until you threaten them. All the while, they will be making money off the interest-free loan you've given them, thinking that you're getting something of value. Buyer beware. read more

We've been shopping at west elm both online and in store for many years and am so glad to have a local location in Milwaukee. Whenever we're looking to buy a new piece of furniture and want to look at fabric samples, place an order through the store, or pick up something small that they carry there, we've been helped graciously by cheerful employees. If we have questions that the current employee doesn't have the answers to, they seek someone out who does. They have in store design help too, which is neat if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. We've actually gone out of our way to order through the store since it benefits that location and you can make sure you're getting the best sale. I love that they also make an effort to feature local products in store as well. read more

I have nothing positive to say about West Elm. I purchased a set of tencel sheets at the Milwaukee store in mid May when I was visiting from out of town. The sheets felt very nice but after two washings one of the corner seams spit which I thought was not acceptable for product of that cost. I first contacted online customer service and explained the problem. Representative asked me how I washed the sheets. Wondered how many ways I could have done it so after thinking about it I just said "in the washing machine" she eventually told me I needed to contact the store. Contacted the store but was told I would have to come and bring the sheets in which is very unrealistic considering I live about 200 miles away. Was told for "liability" reasons could not handle without my coming to store. How would they know I was who I say I was. Pretty sure lots of random people calling about sheets. Basically two issues here- bad customer service and poor qaulity product. Guess I will drag out the sewing machine. My advice is avoid west Elm---- poor quality -over priced and poor customer service read more

Stopped in on our trip to the city, first time shopping at a west elm other than online. We were greeted by an employee immediately and the girl that checked us out was also very friendly. I'm obsessed with everything in this store and they seem to have decent sales regularly so I walked out with quite a few nice things. Would love to come back again soon. read more

It's really too bad that the customer service didn't let us get past the actual product. We went to the Milwaukee store. There were five people behind the counter when we arrived. There were no other customers in the store. Not one approached us to let us know they were available if we had questions. It's not that I like hovering by sales people which is the case in many furniture stores. They didn't even offer to say anything. It was like we were totally invisible. We walked around the store. We sat on some of the couches. Prices were not on all of them nor dimensions. We have friends in other cities who like the company. Think somewhere along the lines of Crate and Barrel meets Anthropologie home section. Bedding, dining, bath, office or patio, you have options for every room in the house. You can even request free sample fabrics for furniture to help decide which pattern or color works best for your place. It's a chain, yes. So if you've been to one, you've mostly seen what you can find here. There's a little "local" area of Wisconsin artists featured with kitschy home goods that are sort of commercialized for a broader appeal. I really like their style and approach. Only, there are dollars and cents involved. And that means having a lot of those to shell out on your new decorations. If you can, look for a coupon or upcoming sale! read more

Long time West Elm customer is Chicago and always received stellar customer service there. When we moved to Milwaukee we were excited to getting some new furniture from the local West Elm. It was absolutely the worst customer service experience I have had anywhere. The employees were rude and lacked knowledge on the products and acted annoyed when we interrupted their person conversations to ask them questions about the product. read more

This brand/store is usually a go-to stop when shopping for the holiday season. It's location is conveniently located near other similar boutique shops and the Milwaukee Public Market. The decor and small planters change frequently enough. The prices do reflect a premium brand. The only issue I had was with a miss-priced item, but when questioned, the staff handled the issue quickly and accurately. read more

This review is about the pop up trhift shop! I had a great time at this store las weekend. It was my first time visiting the third ward and while exploring my friend and I came upon West Elm. When we walked in we saw signs pointing to the pop up thrift shop at the back of the store. We were intrigued! When we went to the back of the store by the loading doc we saw loads of people and a good amount of items. There were amazing prices for rugs, pillow cases, glassware. There was also this amazing raspberry mint lemonade. Will be for sure stealing that recipe for a party. Apparently it was there first time having this event and it went so well that they hope to do another one in the next few months. I went in to the West Elm Milwaukee store last night at around 7pm, to look at the sofa that I saw online and decide if I was going to buy it. There were four people behind the cash register, and about six people in an area of the store where there was salami out and beer. Not a single person came up to ask me if I needed any help or show me any product in the store. Perhaps they were judging me as a non-buyer. It was odd especially at this time of year, so I left. My only regret, I didn't take one of the beers on ice. My last furniture shopping experience was at CB2 where 4 people came up and asked me if I needed help. If I could give negative stars I would. I ordered a couch from this location in June. The first incorrect couch arrived finally in July. The only issue was the color of the legs which they assured me they could just send the in mail and I could switch them out. A month later when I had not received the correct color legs in the mail they said that they would have to replace the entire couch. I waited then another few weeks for that delivery, took off work, ect only to again receive the incorrect couch. Hours of wasted time, money and effort that I can't get back. I went here with my friend to see the items first hand since I have only ever seen a catalog/online store. The parking kind of stunk since it's right across from the Milwaukee Public Market, but you can park over there and either grab lunch at the Public Market (and have your parking validated) or park there and pay, if you can't find street parking. The items here are beautiful, unique, and seem high quality. They're a little out of my budget right now, but they're still gorgeous. We went on a Saturday, and it was busy, but not so busy you couldn't experience the products. We sat on different couches and chairs, touched sheets and curtains, and every time we did a sales person asked us if we had questions about the product and/or showed us a feature of the product. it was pretty neat because things we were shown were likely not things I would have found out just by sitting/touching on it. There is a lot more online, but in the store there are textiles, kitchen goods, furniture, home decor, mirrors in the back hallway, artwork, candles, and more. I wish I could write a more comprehensive review, but I don't own any thing from here - wish I did though! I've always loved the brand, and I was super excited when we got a store in Milwaukee where I could go check everything out in person. About a month ago my wife and I wanted to spruce the living room up in anticipation of a dinner party. Staff was super attentive and helpful. We ended up meeting with one of their in house designers who helped us come up with a plan. The design service was free, and everything turned out great. Can't say enough about the crew at West Elm. I'm a huge West Elm fan and long time customer. I visited this store on Aug. 30th for the first time. This visit was intentional as I am furnishing my entire house. While browsing around for what seemed like five minutes or longer I was surprised that no one greeted me. I actually browsed the entire store and double backed before a sales person said "hello." I was very surprised and disappointed because there were at least five of them working throughout the store. Regardless, I found a few items I loved and proceeded to purchase them. While at the register (no line) there were two people behind there working but on the phone helping customers (walking back and forth etc.) Again, no one acknowledged me. I also observed this happen to another customer while I was selecting my pillows. I finally asked if I could be checked out or should I go somewhere else and she apologized and said she could help me. From there (yes, there's more) it took another three minutes or so for her to log-in as the computer wasn't accepting her ID but come to find out the number lock wasn't selected (ugh). Needless to say, I will not return to this store and I will only purchase online if I purchase at all. read more

Honestly love the store and brand. Staff are very helpful. If you call in to ask if they have something they will go and check and let you know. They prioritize safety, wear masks, have hand sanitizer. If you have order issues and contact customer service they will help and they don't put you on hold for hours like other companies so I appreciated that! read more

I purchased a bed online in June and it showed as in-stock and ships in 1-3 weeks. When I received the confirmation email, it showed the item was out of stock and delivery would be end of July -August 10th. I put a call in to customer service to see what could be done as I was just moving in to my new place. I found the Copenhagen bed on the website while on the phone with a representative. Again, it showed in-stock and ships 1-3 weeks. I added it to my cart and proceeded to fill out the shipping info. The next screen said "Order Difficulties". This item has been removed from your cart. So I asked the representative if she could look to see if it was still an option. I provided my zip code and she said delivery would be December 2015. I understand the 1-3 weeks to build or source the product, but shipping something even that large does not take 6 months unless it's traveling by horseback. So I asked her if someone could follow up with me to see if I could have that bed delivered earlier than December. No one did. I filled out a form on the 28th, no one has gotten back to me until now. The delivery of the bed was another fiasco. I was contacted by the computer to schedule my delivery. Once put through, I was on hold for 40 minutes. Because they are not "in my area" the delivery had to be scheduled another week out and could not be outside of normal business hours. I have a job, I can't drive 20 minutes to and from to have a bed delivered and abandon work. I even called customer service twice and no one could make an exception. Once the bed arrived there were missing pieces. The delivery man said it could be another month before he gets the correct piece if I refuse delivery so I should just let him find something in his truck to make do. I consented just to get it done. For the past month the bed has been off balance and wobbly. The headboard is not secured tightly, the legs down the middle on the bottom are uneven so the bed shifts like a crooked bar table. Another call into customer service and they have to send a technician out. This is quite a terrible experience for my first time shopping with West Elm. A little customer service would be greatly appreciated. read more

My worst experience with customer service online ever!! After waiting over 15 minutes, customer service had no skill sets to properly handle my order situation. This will be the last time I ever order online or enter a West Elm store. In my opinion, they are unable to handle supply or order issues and have poorly trained employees and misleading sale tactics and website display!! read more

It was my first time visiting a West Elm store IRL (I've browsed their website more than a few times), and I was impressed. Their bedding is luxurious and beautiful, and everything seems to be sturdy and expertly designed. Of course, it logically follows that most products are incredibly expensive. Boo and I were lucky to visit on a sale day, but even then most of the products we admired would have been costly even with the discount applied. Nevertheless, we were both able to leave with three lovely items for under $50, and we had nice chats with a couple sales associates, who were quite friendly. read more

I've never experienced such an awful thing in my life! My girlfriend and I usually love going to West Elm on the weekends to shop for home decor and candles. Every weekend we come poke around the store and see what new deals the store has to offer! You can definitely say we are regulars! However when my girlfriend and I went in today the tone of the store was very different. Like I said we know what to look for and where to go because we shop here frequently. We walked in the store an went to the usual candle display. My girlfriend picked up a candle that we knew we wanted and we proceeded to walk to another display. Almost immediately after my girlfriend picked up the candle an employee bee lined right to her and said she could take the candle and hold it for us at the front. This completely threw us off as we had just started shopping. I felt like we were being rushed because we were unwanted. We felt that they were trying to get us out of the store. THEN WHAT MY GIRLFRIEND TOLD ME UNBELIEVABLE. My girlfriend heard the store manager at the time, older woman with short gray brown hair and glasses, tell the employee to get what she was holding. My girlfriend is black and I guess that means she is to be treated like a shop lifter as soon as she steps into a store. A store she regularly goes to! I have never been so offended and just upset with a store like I am with West Elm in Milwaukee Wisconsin. They clearly don't work on commission or if they do they are the worst salespeople ever. I went to purchase a light fixture and it was out of stock. I paid and was told I would get a call when it came in. Several weeks went by and no call, I called, the light was in but they guy on the phone said, 'we've tried calling several times'. Hmmm, I had no missed calls, no messages, that's very strange. Anyway, go to pick up my light and wait at the check out. I give the woman my receipt and tell her I'm here to pick up an order, she says, ' what is this? what am I suppose to do with this?' This was after she approached the counter but she didn't greet me or ask how she could help me, just gave me a blank stare. As if, what is a person like me doing there? She got my light, put it on the counter and promptly turned her back and then walked away. It was absolutely the worst retail experience I've ever had. west elm obviously has little interest in their customer's experience with regard to the delivery of their merchandise. A $160 charge buys the customer a delivery which does not include removing your furniture from the boxes they're shipped in, much less any setup. If I'd wanted DIY furniture I would have shopped at IKEA. At least they're upfront about what they're selling the public and show some interest in customer satisfaction. I've had more dependable delivery service from Home Depot or Best Buy! Upon voicing my concern, in-store management did little beyond letting me know my beef was with the delivery company, not west elm. Classy! Way to stand behind your reputation west elm. read more

Terrible customer service. My $1,500 item was supposed to be delivered by the end of the week. I contacted West Elm two times regarding scheduling the delivery date (they were supposed to call me but didn't). When I called the week it was supposed to be delivered they told me that they had been trying to get ahold of me, but that my phone was disconnected and would not be able to deliver on time. My phone was not and has not been disconnected. The lady on the phone (Debra) told me that I shouldn't blame "her" for the late delivery, if I would have answered my phone, then the late delivery would not have occurred. When I asked to speak to a manager, she said that there are no managers. Terrible customer service. I will never purchase from this store again. read more

My wife and I go in today with the intent of just looking for bedding. We find something that matches what we are looking for only they don't have the Duvet cover in a king size on the shelf. We flag a salesperson down who looks on the shelf and says to us "yeah I checked the other day on that one and we are out but it shows we have 2 in stock?" So my wife and I get the impression so is going to check...15-20 minutes later this same salesperson is walking around helping another couple who are looking to purchase a kitchen table. I don't want to be rude to this couple and interrupt but I'm curious as to her findings??? Did she find the 2 she had in stock? Did she not? So finally after getting ignored by her for 15 minutes my wife and I went to a different associate, we explain what we are looking for and she looks it up in the system and says ok...we show 2 in stock. Let me go check. As she's checking the awful foul human of a salesperson that initially helped us managed to free up some time to come over and tell the other associate "we are out of that, I checked the other day!" Hmmm....well first off she communicated this to associate and not to my wife and I which just pissed us off more because we were mere feet from the the associate and secondly were you planning on following back up with us with your findings! I guess that's too much to ask. This didn't deter the new associate from looking, I suspect she probably didnt trust the opinion of the initial associate, and 4 minutes later the the 2nd associate rounds the corner with precisely what we were looking for. read more

This was one of the worst shopping experiences I had in my life. In June 2015 we placed an order for around $5000 worth of furniture. Everything was supposed to be delivered in August. I don't know what was worse, the lack of staffing in the store, the mass confusion in their corporate customer service or their delivery service. To make the long story short, 5 months later and we still don't have our furniture. We called them dozen times and every time they say they will call back with the status update and then they don't, the last time they hung up on us. They actually offered to cancel the order at this point but we already have half the items. They are telling us that they can deliver in December since items are "misplaced" and they can't find them so they would just put another order. Its just getting worse. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone that wants to keep their sanity. Its like one of those show houses, It looks cool but you really can't buy anything. read more
