I feel compelled to write a positive review for West Elm Milwaukee based on my recent experience…read more I admit that I had serious reservations about making a large furniture purchase given the numerous negative reviews online. I even expressed my concern to the designer before placing the order. She acknowledged challenges in the past, but assured me that things had changed. I decided to go ahead with a purchase of a full patio furniture set, bar stools, several pieces of large furniture and bedding. It was a leap of faith spending over $15K when I had such reservations, but I really loved the items that I knew would be perfect for my home. I could not be more pleased! Most of my items have been delivered (a couple small ones are on backorder) and I have been pleasantly surprised by the service, quality and my overall experience. I worked directly with designer Maddie Darveau at the store to place the order and, when I had follow up questions about delivery timing, I was able to contact her. Store manager Karla Ferreiras was also very helpful with my delivery questions and communications following my initial purchase. The white glove delivery was among the best delivery service I had ever experienced! Huge kudos to Ramon and Manuel of Ryder Last Mile for the efficiency, care and respect with which they delivered and set up our purchases - half the truck was filled with our purchases! I recommend ordering directly through the store rather than online for furniture purchases. I ordered my bedding online and had a small issue that was quickly addressed by the customer service representative at the general number. I plan to make additional purchased through West Elm Milwaukee and will do so directly with Maddie while crossing my fingers that the positive experience continues working with the local team.

What is the point of having a furniture store where you can't sit in the furniture before buying it. West Elm's website contains many items that they say are "in stock" that are not available in any store. There is no way to try it before buying it and having it delivered to your home. And this is furniture, so we are talking about spending thousands of dollars. It would be nice if they just said this on their website. It literally took me hours to find this out.

It is their business and they can do as they like. But sheesh. That is exhausting and a waste of time In an effort to avoid the absolute zoo process and a sore back this time I went later in the day and followed other people into the warehouse area. I started looking around when I realize I'm being shouted at and told I "can't be in here." The other ladies were left to shop as they liked. There was no, oh we are so sorry but we have closed this part of the store. I said, there is literally a sign hanging that says "open" I asked if I didn't read the sign correctly, from what I read on the door they were open for well over another hour. I was told that's for the rest of the store. Alright. Not a problem. I left rather disappointed, not so much that I couldn't shop, but disappointed that I was left feeling a little startled from being told I couldn't be there. I had no idea that was about to hit me. I was just looking at glassware. Rather jarring. Also. Why did the three ladies in front of me not get shouted at? I was completely reasonable, polite, and I apologized for not realizing that one part of the store wasn't open (people were still in there actively shopping) but I was made to feel like I was being scolded, singled out, and not treated very well. Where's the harm in being nice or polite? If you plan to shop there: I appreciate they have an unusual process of pricing it after you carry it as you wait in line for quite a while. I understand that can take forever. But seriously, not everyone has the ability to hold stuff for that long. And yes they sometimes have a few baskets but not enough. If it wasn't so physically difficult to to carry stuff in line for quite a while, I wouldn't have gone later to try to miss the line and actually be able to buy things without clutching it so long that my back gets sore. If you go in summer, bring water. It gets very hot and it can take quite a while. If you do plan to go here, even in the main store area, bring a flashlight, a really strong big one., it's truly exceptionally dim. Quite a bit in a back room in the store is totally unpriced. In the store, imho the furniture is often priced a bit ambitiously. But I guess good for them if they can sell it.

A headboard we bought 3 years ago cracked and rendered it unusable. We were hoping for a bit of a break (no pun intended) on a replacement piece, perhaps 20% off. No. $800 for just the plexiglass piece plus $64 delivery, plus tax. No apologies from the company. We have found the sales people friendly, although I do think there is sometimes a "hoity-toity" attitude. Also, their sales are not so great. After all, their prices are astronomical to begin with, so 15% off does not really bring them down from the stratosphere. You'll pay for original (not repro) design and most of the time, get quality.

While the two female employees ignored us walking in to an otherwise completely empty store, the male sales representative was very kind and helpful. He knew exactly where the chair we were looking for was in the store, was able to explain very clearly how and what could be adjusted, and even shared how the features compared to other similar chairs. Once we were set up, he let us be to test it out until we were ready to ask more questions about pricing and shipment options. I was appreciative that he gave us space and time to see if we liked it. While their shipping is expensive, they do have a 25% off deal right now.

The German Shepherd says he needs some money for home renovations, so the surprised new bank officer asks if he has any collateral. The canine offers up this antique artsy-fartsy thing saying it's worth a lot of money, he got it at On and On Milwaukee for much less than it's actually worth because the prices at this antique store are so reasonable. The lending officer is at a loss, this just wasn't covered in her extensive training so she excuses herself to see the bank manager for advice. She tells him "there's a German Shepherd who can talk who wants money for some renovation work, but all he has to secure it is this vintage thing I don't even know what it is, what should I do?" So the manager tells her, "It's a knick knack Patty Black, give the dog a loan." I'm sorry I don't actually know if they allow dogs in here, talking or not. They do sell all sorts of unusual art and antiques at very reasonable prices and it's right next to a wonderful wine bar and an excellent coffee shop.
