The park itself is okay, we travel so we've been to 11 states worth of dog parks for our dog Nova. For Austin I thought it would look nicer. The reason I gave it a 5 stars is for the other dogs and all the cool dog owners. We struck up some conversations with some of the owners and our dog LOOOVED playing with their dogs. We were slightly misled, but regardless, the dogs had a great time West Austin Park (& Wading Pool) is a green space in the cute Clarksville neighborhood.There's a playground, wading pool, and open lawn for some frisbi throwing or whatever park activity you're into. As for the dog park area... it's a wonky and warped medium-sized lot that's fenced in. Water bowls are spread throughout, along with patio chairs that neighbors likely donated, and the majority of it is shaded. This dog park seems to be maintained by the community. There was a giant water jug that one kind gentleman kept refilling the bowls. Outside the bark park you'll find the water refill and rinsing station. My dog had a great time, and would probably give this spot a solid 5-stars. read more

Our dog loves the west austin dog park! It's definitely an Austin hidden gem. Most of the dogs that come through are super friendly, and it's nice to see many of the same dogs every day. It feels like a community. It's smaller, but still plenty of space and never too crowded. The only downside is there is an insane amount of mosquitoes at certain times of the year so be sure to bring bug spray. read more

This is a small fenced dog park on the edge of a small park. We take our large Golden Retriever and miniature Aussie Doodle and both love it. Some kind soul frequently fills the water pails. There are chairs for humans, dog bags, a double gated entrance an plenty of room to run. There is a nice elevation that allows dogs who are inclined to run and jump. We have found the dogs and humans to be very responsible for the most part. Dogs who play well with others and self aware humans who are quick to call their dog back if he/she becomes to energetic. There is a small parking lot which helps out as there isn't too much street parking. This is a great option and our Aussie Doodle really loves it. There is almost always other dogs to play with. read more

This place is definitely one of our favorite dog parks in Austin. The entrance is secure and every time we've been here, all the dogs have been super friendly and playful. The dogs definitely love running up and down the steps/..ledges? And get some exercise in. There are plenty of seats available for pawrents to sit back and relax while the pups socialize. I took my Pup here for the first time today and she loved it! I had stopped taking her to Red Bud and Auditorium Shores because of the irresponsible owners not watching their dogs and not picking up the poo. After reading Emily H's excellent review this morning I told the Pup I would take her to the dog park later today - she must have understood at the least the "park" part because she got super excited and ran off to get her leash. We arrived on a Saturday around 1:30 and there was only 3 other people and dogs there during the 45 minutes we were there - maybe it was because of the recent rain and mud or ACL weekend hm? As others have stated it is fenced in and large enough for a greyhound to gain some speed without being too big to lose sight of your Pup. There are some huge oak trees for shade, several picnic tables, plenty of chairs for the humans, several self watering water bowls topped with huge spring water jugs. When we first arrived there was only one other human and dog and that dog was put on a leash when we entered. The woman called out and asked if my Pup was an intact male? and explained her dog was aggressive towards intact males. I feel the same way Rocky - I get angry when I see intact males too:) The Momma was responsible and made sure Rocky liked Mia before letting him off leash then was right there to correct him when he used an unfriendly play voice. Rocky's Mom was very friendly and told me this was her favorite dog park because of the responsible dog owners who bring their dogs here. I have to agree after my only experience. It is not as beautiful as Bull Creek nor does it have water to swim in. But, my main priority in a dog park is the safety of my Pup while she plays and for that they get 5 stars. Perfect spot if you have a runner and jumper like our husky. West Austin Park has high chained link fences and is an off leash zone = yay we get to take Hailey out. Thanks to the reviews here, we made it to West Austin Park and everyone had fun this sunny January Sunday. Like many have mentioned, it's not that large of a fenced in dog park but it's sufficient and does have enough room for the doggies to run. There are plenty of seating throughout for you to chill and watch your dog play. The husky had a great time here meeting lots of different dogs and found enough space to wander and sniff to her heart's content. We also enjoyed the park knowing that Hailey was in a secured place with fences too high for her to jump over and no areas for her to dig herself out of. We kept a keen eye on the 2 gates each time any were open. But, all in all, people were nice to also be aware when they were coming in or out and not letting the dogs out. Good to note that the park is mostly dirt. There is a hose on the north end of the park to spray down the dirty pup when playtime is over. Also very nice that there are some tennis balls and random dog toys here and there for the patrons to enjoy. The dog park is in a downtown neighborhood and it's adjacent to an open field along with a playground. We had no trouble finding parking even on a popular day like today. I'm guessing half the patrons there are from the neighborhood and must have walked over. I met Sandra and her dog Mozart, both very nice! She updated me that her and the community have been raising money for the upkeep of the dog park. I think January 8 is when they will be renovating the park. I like the park already and I'm happy to find a place that Hailey enjoys! We look forward to returning. read more

This is the best dog park in Austin that I've found so far. It's location is prime & easily accessible. (Easy to park as well). Lot's of water bowls, poop stations, toys and mixed terrain. Plenty of seating for humans as well! It gets pretty busy, but that's the best time to bring the pups & get em all worn out. I recommend this place - although beware it is a one size dog park (no separate area for the smaller pups). So if your pup is on the smaller side and easily intimidated by other dogs.. might not be the place for you! Just a thought. read more

There are several things that make this one of the better dog parks that I have been too! 1. The dogs are almost all well behaved! 2. The dog owners are for the most part friendly and will include you in conversation! 3. The double gate, entrance door! 4. Big jug dog bowls around the play area! 5. Fence so, you don't have to worry about your furry friend breaking free at any moment! 6. A working hose so you can refill bowls or give your pup a quick rinse on hot days! The Cons: 1. There is a back exit gate on the fence that isn't a double gate which made me kind of nervous. 2. Some of the owners are friendly of other dogs and some aren't! If you are going to go to a fenced in off leash dog park please realize that other dogs will come up to you for a quick pet! This is called friendly, well behaved and socialized dog manners! 3. If you don't want your dog sniffed or even looked at by another dog then walk your dog on a trail, don't throw a fit and pout everytime a dog comes up to yours! This park has other areas such as a playground for children (it looked super nice), a large field area for kids to run, pool and ample parking! I really enjoyed my afternoon here with Mark E. There is nice plastic lawn chairs and shady treed areas to relax in while your dogs are playing! Towards later afternoon there was more dogs and things turned into a mix of some crazy dogs, humping dogs (Mark E. Bocce can't control himself) and some agressive types! This dog park is great! The people and their pups who come here in the evenings are very friendly and nice. And my puppy has a great time here, except that today he bolted out with two other dogs from the entrance that opens towards the road on the other end of the park. Dog parks usually have double door entrances but this particular gate does not have an outer gate. The worst part is that the gate opens up onto a busy street and most dog owners are careful. But I was terrified to notice that my dog along with two others sneaked out after a dog owner (who had nothing to do with them sneaking out) as he tried to leave the dog park. I was very lucky and a few folks ran after them and caught up with them two blocks down but to think of what would have happened if these dogs would have run into the busy street. I just want to urge the city to make a tiny outer gate outside this one, so that our pups are safe and they can have a great time, while we can meet new and friendly people. read more

Brought my pupper here for the first time today and Nelson LOVED it! This was our first time at a dog park so I was a little nervous. I went at 1PM on a Friday afternoon knowing it would be more low key than a Saturday or Sunday. When I first got there there was only 1 other pup. He was a fun larger dog who Nelson eventually got along with. Throughout the next 2 hours or so about 6-7 different dogs came and went. Mostly large dogs but some small ones. Every owner was very friendly and talkative and all the dogs were being silly. Nelson loved barking at dogs that were wrestling, I was calling him the referee of the dog park. This place was easy to find, easy to park and I loved the double gate at the entrance. The benches, chairs and trashcans all made it a great dog park! The water hose inside the dog park wasn't working but the one outside made it possible to get some water inside by using these jugs that were hanging out inside. Overall it was a great first dog park experience! Of course everyone will have different experiences because different dogs are there at different times but you can't control that. Nelson came home exhausted and I was so happy to see him run around and enjoy other dogs! read more

We love this dog park. It's fully fenced (which is critical for our young puppy), fresh running water, chairs in the shade and usually a good combination of small and bigger dogs. Also appreciate the wood chips though it still does get muddy in some areas. And everyone is really friendly and generally pretty good about picking up the poop. Better than Norwood Estates as far as I have seen so far. Only real drawback is the mosquitos...but a little repellent definitely does the job. Wish Austin had more places like this. read more

My dog is a sprinter which is surprising considering he's 20 lbs, but he could win an Olympic sport for track and field if the opportunity let him. That being said, I can only trust him in this dog park because it's fenced so he can't go to other parks like zilker. I've been here twice with him and my dog is good with dogs of all sizes but I can see this park being an issue if your dog isn't because there's no separation for size. Parking is convenient I've never had issues finding street parking. It is rocky/dirt, so id imagine this place would be a mud pit after rain falls. the park is pretty well kept though considering its used all day by numerous dogs. But there's plenty of dog butts for my dog to sniff and chase so he's happy here. I usually keep an eye on my dog because I read reviews about dogs getting out but most of the parents here are pretty respectful and I feel like try to help each other when opening and closing the gate, so I've (fingers crossed) not had an issue. I gave this four stars because it would be perfect for my dog if the gate was double fenced, which is not an expensive addition so I am surprised the city doesn't just do that for this park, since there's already a fence! read more

Here you'll find one of Austin's few fully fenced dog parks. It's only a small area, but it's easy to keep an eye on your dog. Recently it was given a facelift, which included large stone steps built into the hill to create a kind of doggy ampitheater. As with most dog parks, the terrain has been worn down to dirt, so it's best avoided on muddy days. The dog park draws a good crowd on evenings and weekends, and lots of the "regulars" are neighbors from the area. My terrier mix secretly hates the dog park, because she finds chasing squirrels way more interesting than chasing balls with other dogs, but if your pooch is more social, he or she will probably have a great time here. read more

I really enjoyed this dog park. Being so used to the Bark Park in G-Town, it was nice to experience a different dog venue. Bark Park is pretty exceptional, so it sets a high bar for other dog parks to measure up. But West Austin is definitely a decent contender. Obviously, being tucked in a neighborhood in downtown Austin, it would be unfair to compare the smaller size of this park to the spacious Bark Park. All else considered, this is a nice park. The dog owners are (mostly) cool and friendly; the dogs are (mostly) well-behaved; there is an ample supply of water for the dogs. I had to ding a star on this park, because--while there's a double gate inside the park grounds--the fenced-in dog area has a single gate right on the street. I think having a double gated access to a dog park is so important. It acts as a sally port to safely enclose your dogs, so you can take of their leashes as you enter the dog enclosure. If budgetary reasons only allow for one double gate for the park, the double gate should then be placed at the street entrance. (but seriously, how expensive is some extra stanchions, hinges, and chain link?) Anyway... So, I'll definitely come back to this dog park. The neighborhood is great, the surroundings serene... It's a perfect park for what I need it to be. While not as green, big or lush as some other parks down the road, this gets the job down. Our 6 month pittie is deaf so her recall skills are nonexistent. We've tried taking her to other off-leash open areas but we spend more time chasing her than we get to enjoy ourselves. Having it fenced in makes things a lot easier so we don't have to run after her every time she gets distracted by another person or dog. It's big enough to where it never feels crowded, even during the busy times when I've seen 20+ dogs. It's also nice and shaded and there's seats available, as well as ample parking. Quiet neighborhood and not off a major street like Aud Shores and Zilker. Would like to see a little more grass, and the grass that is there now should be kept up with. The field outside the park is beautiful, but the grass within the fenced park is 2ft high and sparse. read more

This is a great neighborhood park with a playing field, playground, wading pool, etc.. But the best feature is the relatively new, fully fenced off-leash dog park! Lots of neighborhood involvement with this park means it's well maintained and everyone seems to know each other (or at least each other's dogs). The fenced area is small enough to be able to see your dog at all times, but big enough for even my greyhound to get up to speed. People here are conscientious about monitoring their dogs' behavior and picking up after them. I have never seen it too crowded or out of control, like many of us have seen at Norwood. A hose nearby the restrooms means you don't have to haul a bunch of water with you to the park. Austin needs more parks like this! read more

We just came here for the first time, the Riverside Dog Park is just a little too intense for my 45 pound pup and 7 year old son. This one is smaller but the owners are more responsive and don't let things get so rowdy. Dogs are still jumping, running like crazy and nipping at each other, just not as much pinning and neck shaking as you can see at Riverside. The one thing I miss about Riverside - the double door entrance to prevent sneaky escapes. Nice little park. Responsible people. Friendly dogs. Pool and playscape (for pre-K kids) for the non-furry members of the family to also get their exercise. read more

This is the closest dog park to UT, so I come here quite often. I seriously appreciate the volunteers and all the people who take time out of their lives to constantly maintain the mulch and the fencing. The Park: This is a well-fenced dog park on a slope, shaded by trees. There are two entrances, the main one being a double gate to make sure no little buddies slip out. There is water, trees, lawn chairs, but no grass. The dogs don't seem to mind though. The only concern is about potential injuries from being on a slope. I have a big dog, and when he's playing around and chasing his friends, it always makes me nervous when he jumps off a ledge because I think both his legs are going to snap. The Dogs/People: The people are really friendly and love to talk about their pets and share training tactics and advice. Most dogs are well behaved, and the owners are always quick to split up any tussles between dog friends without being jerks about it. They understand that even with the best training, their dogs just might not get along. Personally I don't worry about my dog getting into a crazy fight or anything when we come here. The only instances where I didn't really have a good time were when frat guys and sorority girls bring their dogs and don't pick up after them, or just absolutely freak out at people when their pets accidentally play too rough. This was the first dog park we came to once we got to Austin. At first, it was great because it was all we knew. Met some cool people with cool dogs. After the 2nd or 3rd time, we realized the place was just really dirty. Now I know that might seem a bit picky, it's a dog park right? It just looks neglected. No mulch, dog droppings all over. Dirty chairs and water bowls. Nasty toys. It seems like at one point, it was a booming place. Now, not so much. We'd much rather go to Zilker or take a hike at Lady Bird or Barton Creek. read more

Today was my first time visiting this dog park. I have a rescue Cockalier, Molly, who is good about being off leash....until she sees a squirrel. So I was really happy to find a fenced in area. I've never been to a fenced in dog park in Austin....so I'm just happy to have found one that was big (but not too big) and safe. The only problem is.....there's so much dirt! Right outside of the fence is a beautiful field with thick green grass-- it kind of taunted me as I was watching my white dog roll around in the dirt.... The people were nice and the dogs were friendly. However, one man's tiny chihuahua VERY easily crawled through one of the locked gates. Thank goodness Molly and I were walking by to rescue his pup, or else he wouldn't have been able to get to the next gate fast enough! That being said....if you have a teacup or toy sized puppy, watch the crack between the gate and the fence! All in all, there were chairs toys, friendly people, and fresh water. Molly and I will definitely be coming back.....AFTER she gets her summer cut and I don't have to spend an hour getting mulch sticks out of her long cocker coat.... read more

One of the best, if not the best, fenced dog park in Austin. As others have noted, there is one side entrance that isn't double gated, which opens to the street, so be mindful of that. Otherwise, it's a great dog run, decent enough size, many dogs, friendly dog owners, etc. Another point that can be improved is the lack of a dog faucet. There's a water faucet nearby, outside of the park, which is used to fill buckets of water in the park. It would have been great if the faucet was in the park itself. But alright. read more

I come to this dog park multiple times a week with my fur guy, Moose. He has the best time! There are plenty of chairs and toys for the pups to play with. They provide poop bags and water bowls. There are only a few downsides, one being that the chairs are extremely dirty and the dogs pee all over them. The second is that not everyone who comes here is nice. I've had someone hit my dog and another person throw something at my dog here before. Not everyone understands how to behave at a dog park, but I won't stop that from us coming here to play! read more

the area is decent, however the owners here space out and don't control their dogs. I was highly disappointed at the severe lack of responsible owners. I have a smaller dog who isn't a fighter and a lot of the other dog owners had larger dogs and would let their fido just rough up other dogs with hardly even calling their dog out on it. my dog was even jumping in strangers laps to escape the other dogs and I never heard one correction until I started on my way out. parking here is also very difficult. it's also too small for the number of people and dogs that accumulate in this location. won't be coming back here. read more

We've now been to this dog park the past two Saturdays and are really enjoying it. Each time there has been a lot of dogs, of all different sizes and breeds. Almost all of them are well behaved which is the big reason we like coming back. There are plenty of places to sit and watch the craziness that ensues. There are plenty of bowls of water for the dog to drink out of and one great double gate entrance door. Only bummer is the other entrance to the park is not a double gate and is located in the Southwest corner which can be hard to watch from other parts of the park. It can be a little nerve racking if your dog is an escape artist. The area around the dog park is really nice and makes us feel more comfortable about going there more often. We have heard a number of stories about people getting their car broken into at the E. Riverside park. read more

Just got back from a great romp at the dog park here. The double gate is great, though there is another regular gate near the road. The park was shady, had a few different water bowls, a couple tennis balls, and a good amount of room for the dogs to run, play, and sniff. There are a lot of chairs and some benches and tables for dog owners, too, and people are really friendly. The rest of the park is also really nice, with a big grassy field, pool, and playground, in a nice, quiet neighborhood. For someone with a dog whose recall is not great yet, having this nice fenced-in dog park in Austin is a must! read more

More like 3.5 stars. Anyway, I come here from time to time with my erratic cattle dog. For us, it's usually hit or miss, on whether or not he finds a playmate. There's a lot of shade. The ground is full of twig mulch, which apparently makes it hard for some people to pick up after their dogs. Since it is shady, after the rain it takes a while for this place to stop being muddy. I just prefer grass over dirt. There are lots of places for dogs to safely chase out squirrels and plenty of water jugs and bowls around. Don't make the mistake of coming here with treats on you. I got bitten 3 times, but that was my own fault for having treats - it can be a scary experience, but overall, it's a pretty decent dog park. read more

Of all the dog parks close to downtown this is definitely my favorite. There is plenty of shade and places to sit and generally speaking the dogs are well socialized and friendly. There is a hose and some water dispensers for the dogs and one or two "poop stations" with bags and trash cans. Overall, this is definitely my go-to dog park in Ausitn. read more

I like this park better than Norwood because it's smaller and has less dogs. Also has plenty of space for dogs to run off leash. It's tucked away in Clarksville so I feel less people know about it. My pup had a great time there. read more
