This paved urban greenway cuts through some of Charleston's suburbia. Occasional public art displays dot the scenery, but besides occasional road crossings it seems largely a straightaway path with not a ton of razzle dazzle. That's not to say that pedestrian/bike infrastructure lacks value of course, as the path is much more pleasant than the surrounding roadways.

West Ashley Greenway offers 8.8 miles of trails for walking, biking, and jogging. Dogs are allowed on leash. You will see beautiful birds, fish, gorgeous bridges with scenic views of the water as well as vibrant flowers and plants. West Ashley Greenway is a beautiful escape into nature with paved and manicured trails. You can bird watch, exercise or just walk through nature with your best friend. I did a 3 mile walk today and it was amazing! The scenic views are tranquil and breath- taking. Please add this to your, "Must-See" list.

Beautiful greenway. Well maintained and safe. Wish I lived closer so I could spend more time here. I recommended it for runners, walkers and casual cyclists.

A great spot for exercise and nature in central West Ashley. Parts are busy, some near the end aren't paved, there's a mix of sunny and shaded areas, with lots of walkers, joggers, bikers and strollers being pushed in the more active areas. No motorized vehicles are allowed, and some areas are very remote from anything manmade with scenic views of the marsh and Stono River.

There may not be a lot of rigorous or mountainous terrain in the Lowcountry, but we do care about our walkers, runners and bikers to give them ample places to get outdoors and exercise. The Greenway is no exception. Running from Windermere to Stono County Park adjacent to Savannah Highway, this walkway is not only a safe place to excercise, but offers education and natures gifts all along the way. Cheers to the West Ashley Greenway

I have a family member that recently moved to West Ashley and lives right along the greenway. We often take the dog for a walk along the paved path. It isn't usually too busy and most people are pretty friendly who are out and about.

Maybe I'm the last to know! Great walking path! I saw beautiful views! My dog and child loved getting out on a beautiful day! I only walked 2 miles but the path kept going!

Loving the slight temperature drop and nice breeze!

We were getting tired of our normal walk locations for our furry friend Tater, so we switched it up and checked out West Ashley Greenway. I looked at some reviews before we checked it out so we knew where to park. We parked behind the shops across from the Earth Fare parking lot. There's plenty of parking in this shopping complex, so no need to worry about that. We went about a mile down and then turned around and we got pretty views of the marshes and neighborhoods along the Greenway. There were a lot of people out and about riding their bikes and running. Personally, I wouldn't want to walk this trail without a buddy and there's no lights at night, so be aware of that. Overall, it was a pleasant break from our normal city views and we will come back for more walks for sure!

If you need a quick escape from reality, this is where it's at in West Ashley. Quiet peaceful walks with a beautiful view. Another perk...if you don't have a dog and need a fix, you get to see so many furry friends along the path. :)

I've been meaning to walk the WAG for a while now, and finally had some time to do it yesterday. It was a little tricky to find, because the trees block the entrance sign, but I parked at Earth Fare and found my way to the entrance. As mentioned by another reviewer, the mile markers (at least for the first two miles) are off by .15, so my two mile walk (one way) was actually 1.7 miles. The part of the trail that I walked on was very nicely paved, and as long as you stay to the right, you'll have no issues being run over by bikers or runners. Nice views along the WAG, both natural and residential. I was going to walk the entire WAG, but realized it was 7 miles (according to the estimated markers) and thought better of it. Maybe next time.

Ask the Community - West Ashley Greenway

How much of this is paved? I am looking for somewhere with nice pavement to rollerblade!

If you start from the Earth Fare parking lot, you've got several miles of paved trail. The end near Main Rd. is not paved. I'm not sure of the mile mark where the paved part ends and trail begins, though.

I love going behind the fire station on 17 and parking in the parking lot next to the doctors office and walking over.

It is a favorite among Charleston locals and tourists alike. This park is ideal for a sunset picnic or a relaxing stroll, and it only adds to the romantic charm of Charleston. It won the 2007 Landmark Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects, confirming its status as a Charleston treasure. Spanning over 8 acres and located less than a mile north of The Battery, Waterfront Park has become a beloved Charleston fixture. It is home to one of the city's most photographed sites: the pineapple fountain. In Charleston's scorching summer months (and we faced that too), visitors (especially children) can be found cooling off in the shallow water of the fountain. Wide walking paths, dozens of benches, well-manicured green spaces, picturesque Palmetto trees, and a famous Pineapple Fountain adorn the park.
