Cool industrial vibe to this place. Friendly service and quick. Ordered the French Dip. Nicely stacked sandwich with delicious Au Jus dipping. Hubby got the Sweet hot wings and raved about them. Hot, crispy and actually quite big. Thought it a little odd to only get 4 but they were pretty big. Slighty on the pricy side for the portion size but over all a good meal.

Clam Chowder

Buried in what looks like a trucker station somewhere in rural Texas, Werner Beef & Brew is in fact one of Tillamook's most well-known restaurants. Since the city barely has over 5,000 people (#1), it would be safe to assume the majority of their daily crowds are tourists. However since the food and the service is so good, it would also be a mistake to pass this place up. The industrial feel and warehouse looking premises make the location easier to miss than most. The massive American flag gives off serious Texas vibes. Once in the parking lot, the place is reminiscent of a modern brewery, with ample indoor and outdoor seating options. Step up to the counter and make an order and food will be brought directly to the table. Their simple but robust menu is centered around their craft beer and a hearty selection of tacos, burgers, sandwiches, and daily dinner specials of ribeye steak and salmon. They have themed nights Taco Tuesday ($2 off all tacos) as well as live music on Fridays. The clam chowder has to be one of the best I've had in Oregon. It is creamy, wonderfully seasoned, and addicting with every bite. The chunks of potato were nearly perfect and nearly overtook the clams on the tasty scale. It was so good that I ended up ordering two more bowls for the road and to indulge again post food coma. The fish tacos were also a surprisingly excellent option. While the cuts of fish were not the largest, they were certainly among the tastiest. The cilantro crema has a really nice kick and the combination of the tortilla, mini slice of avocdao, and slaw made for a nice bite. Their baked potato skin were the perfect crunchy and salty appetizer. The hearty chili with the frito lay chips were also excellent. While I appreciate the portion of the in-house potato salad which includes chunks of bologna, it was their by far their most lackluster dish. The condiment station includes ranch, which is genius. A big shout out to their pellet ice machine; a true highlight for all cold drinks lovers. Perhaps the biggest highlight of all was their exemplary customer service. The young staff was on it in terms of offering quality suggestions, diligent about keeping the bathrooms clean, and bussing tables quickly to keep the flow of people going. They were professional and super friendly. I am sure I'll find myself in Tillamook again in the near future. When I do, I plan on making Werner Beef and Brew a-must visit stop on the itinerary. _____________ (#1) Which is technically a town.

Pretzel with Cheese
Steve L.

Stopped here before a game for a quick bite real quick. It was sunny and beautiful so I grabbed a spot outside in the sun. I ordered the pretzel inside and I also ordered a hazy. I was a little disappointed in the fact that there were only like 5 beers to choose from on tap, but it at least was a good beer. When they delivered my pretzel to the table I was amazed by how big it was. It was definitely a shareable appetizer. However, the cheese sauce left a lot to be desired. It tasted exactly like Tostitos Queso from a jar that you buy in the chip isle at the store. It's fine, but not what I would like to dip my pretzel in. All in all, it was a fine experience. 6.4/10 I'd stop again if I was with a group and they wanted to go there, but I'd probably choose somewhere else if it's just me again.

The food was amazing with a healthy portion of tri tip on my sanwhich. Clean with good service. It is one of those "IYKYK" kind of places. And I had plenty of meal envy seeing what other tables had ordered.

I love their salad bar. Best one in town! My husband got the Mook Burger with tator tots and he devoured it. Food came out right away. Seating inside and outside. The outside has heated lamps. Definitely recommended.

Clam chowder

We had clam chowder, fish tacos, and a flight of beer. The service wasn't great. Seemed like they weren't engaged. The atmosphere was kind of cool. It's weird to drive into because you're going to an industrial area. I liked the chowder ok but the beer and tacos were ok at best. The tortillas for the tacos seemed like they hadn't even been heated up.

Clam chowder!

We took a scenic drive to Tillamook and stumbled upon Werner Beef and Brew for lunch. As a clam chowder enthusiast, I have to say their clam chowder was absolutely delicious and really hit the spot! The burger, however, was a bit lackluster and bland for my taste, and the cheesy fries were just average. On the bright side, the sausage was flavorful and a nice addition to the meal. If you're in the area, I'd definitely recommend stopping in for a bowl of that chowder! The also have a variety of sandwiches, salads and desserts. We brought home some cheesy Polish sausage home from the cold case.

We left shaken and have not been back. How does a man who has never spoken to you, never met your dog, and knows nothing about your life already hate you -- and need you to know it? That is the question I am still trying to answer about this person. I had felt his eyes on me from across the room before either encounter, like he was waiting to be released. When he finally was, he came over not to talk but to deliver two messages at once: how impressive he was, and how little he thought of me. It happened on two consecutive days. The first day was brief. I complimented his dog and wondered aloud if my newly adopted rescue might share some of that breed. He answered with contempt: "Absolutely not. Your dog is nothing but a pure pit bull." He had never met or been near my dog. I let it go. The next day, his roughly 100-pound dog was growling, snarling, and baring its teeth at me and my mother from a few feet away. We had not interacted with the dog or said a word about it. Then he stood up, walked over, blocked our path to the door, stopped a foot from my face, and held a pointed finger about three inches from my eye. He kept it there while he told me my dog was violent, every dog in the brewery was terrified of him, I had never trained him, I did not understand responsibility, and he was no longer welcome. He delivered all of this in the same breath as a running commentary on how exceptional his own dog was. I'm no psychologist, but the shape of it was hard to miss. He was condemning my dog for behavior his own dog was actually doing. He was condemning me for reasons I still cannot name. And he needed me, in the same breath, to know how superior his dog was to mine. Hatred without cause, accusation by projection, and a need to elevate himself over a stranger. It was schoolyard bullying with adult body language and an owner's authority behind it. None of it was true. My dog is a three-day-old rescue still learning that the world is safe. He is not aggressive. He has never in his life attacked another dog. He comes from trauma and is finally somewhere he is loved. At Root and Rye there was no incident -- no bad behavior, nothing close to violent. Dogs frolicked. They respected each other's space. They were warm to him. All afternoon the manager on duty came by our table to pet him, ask about him, and show real interest. Families came over to say hello. Four children crouched down to let him kiss their faces. No dog had a problem with him. No person had a problem with him. The owner's boyfriend was the only one in the room with a problem -- and the problem was not us. His natural tendency appears to be to find a target and terrorize them with insults and abuse. We were simply the ones in front of him that day. My mother later told me that was the moment she felt unsafe. I did not know what he was going to do next. We left and did not come back. The question that stayed with us after we left was not whether he was rude or unprofessional. It was whether he was dangerous, and if so, in what way. I still do not know the answer. This is otherwise a nice place. That is why this matters. Someone connected to ownership is using that position to walk up to people he does not know and unload contempt he could not possibly have earned. The owner's boyfriend gives Root and Rye an unhealthy, dark, creepy vibe that is completely unnecessary to a brewery this otherwise lovely. To the owner, if you are reading this -- you can do better, sister. Until this is addressed, I cannot recommend going, particularly with a dog, and particularly with anyone you would not want cornered by an angry stranger with a finger in their face.

The only negative experience was with the guy seating us upstairs, he definitely had a bit of an attitude. We ordered a 16" half Almighty and half Margherita pizza along with a Caesar salad. The pizza was really good overall, although they definitely could've put more cheese on the Margherita side because it felt a little skimpy. Still very tasty though. The Caesar salad unfortunately tasted really old, but our server was fantastic, apologized immediately, and removed it from the bill without issue. Great customer service honestly made a big difference. Overall, I'd definitely come back!

I ordered the 3 piece fish and chips and a bottle of IBC root beer. The fish pieces were Alaskan cod, tender and with delicious, mild flavor. The cod was covered in a panko crust. I did squirt a bit of malt vinegar on the fish as I like that flavor. The plate came with fries and coleslaw. I am not much of a coleslaw person but this was pretty good. The fish came with a tasty tarter sauce which I just used to dip my fries into. My sister couldn't finish the pulled pork sandwich she ordered so I had some of that too. The pork was tender and flavorful although I wasn't overly fond of the bbq sauce they used. I had dessert! Celia's Homemade Oregon Berry Cobbler. Wow! The piping hot blueberries and strawberries were within a sweet, crisp crust and was magnificent. The cobbler was covered with a huge scoop of Tillamook vanilla bean ice cream. I loved this dessert. This is a comfortable, casual, fun place for a meal. I would definitely come back to eat here while in the old town area of McMinnville.
