This is one of my favorite places to eat. Weng's Kitchen is a Asian cuisine restaurant that offers an amazing broad menu, and on weekdays has a awesome and fresh lunch buffet. We drive about a half an hr to just go here to dine. My husband and I have ordered crab rangoon, walnut shrimp, curry Singapore noodles, the sea salt and pepper squid and shrimp which were all VERY good. The portions are more than you would expect, and well worth the money. The sweet n sour homemade sauce for the cream cheese puffs is the best I've had. They offer many dishes on their lunch buffet as well, so you get to try a little bit of every thing. It's super cheap about $10 a person, which you can't beat! There is something for everyone on this buffet because of the wide variety. The service is wonderful and you can tell they are on top of their game even on a busy day like it was for lunch today. I haven't had a bad experience here, and that's why we have gone back a few times now. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a new Asian eatery to try, you won't be disappointed! read more

Very nice, clean atmosphere it looks like they keep it well cleansed. After toy order your food for dine in, you get your own fortune cookie out of a giant bucket. I thought that was a nice addition and my younger sister and brother thought that was cool. Placed a phone order at 5:40. They said it would be ready 6:20 or so. The wait seemed reasonable because supper time and take out only. I go to pick up my order at 6:20, it hasn't even been made yet. The man running orders out asks what kind of car I drive, so I tell him and point it out in the parking lot. After 25 minutes of waiting, I go back in to make sure they didn't forget about me. My order was sitting on the pick-up rack behind the counter for who knows how long. When I get back home, the Seafood S&P was tough and overcooked. All tempura was tough and chewy. OK I finally did the buffet and ate alone. I was in Farmington for work and had some time to kill. The lunch buffet was $8.93 with tax. The selection included: lo mein noodles, rice noodles, vegetable fried rice, sesame chicken, Phoenix chicken, kung pao chicken, egg foo yung, egg roll, dumpings, teriyaki chicken on stick, soup, etc. Everything tasted good and fresh. A little disappointed about no Asian green beans. The salad and dessert area looked lame with pudding, packaged cookies and peanuts in the shell. Peanuts? Yes I should have taken a picture as it looked weird or an after thought of we need something for that spot. Go run up to the store and buy some peanuts. YEP! This is the best Chinese in Farmington, and one of my favorites in all of the Twin Cities. The staff is SO incredibly nice. I'm not a buffet person, but I do like this one because they only put out small quantities at a time so that it is hot and fresh. If you go and there's something you want NOT on the buffet (ran out)? They'll whip it up for you immediately. You can also order off of a menu. The sesame chicken makes my dreams. I can conjure up the flavor in my mind as I'm writing this. They also have excellent fried cream cheese wontons. The usual fare is found--sweet and sour, fried rice, chow mein noodles, beef and broccoli, etc. The have tasty fried donuts and really delish almond cookies. Try it!!! read more

Holy freakin awesomeness! I love Karl W.'s reviews because he's from Southie (like me) and I love how he rates his food. Once again, he was totally right. We had the orange chicken (8 out of 10) moo shu pork (9 out of 10) and the salt and pepper squid (10 out of 10). *wink**wink* Karl. We also had the crab Rangoon. My husband described the meal as "titties." Let's just say he liked it. My favorite was absolutely the salt and pepper squid. It comes fried with some spicy red and sweet green peppers. It was so good and packed just the right amount of heat. I loved it. The adorable and very friendly guy working told me that they actually had fresh lobster tails when I went to pick the food up and I deeply regret not asking when I called in my order. Next time! We were staying at my Son and DIL's place in Farmington and got delivery from Weng's and it was a first time for all. Delivery was quick and we got 4 different dishes and two were special order. Food was delivered by a friendly worker and was delivered hot, fresh, NOT oily, and the order was exact. The reviews are what we went by and they are correct. Great food, great value and will be our go to when visiting again. I think my Son and DIL wil be converts from their other favorite spot.........not mentioning any names as I have not had the other. I have passed this place for three years on my bi-weekly march to see my Mom. Someone suggested we try it. Really? How many times do you truly find something great in a small town strip mall? Prepare to be amazed! This place looks very ordinary from the street. Open the door and you're greeted by the smells of GREAT Chinese food being cooked to order in the kitchen! The place is in it's fourth year of business AND is spotless! The service is fast, very well done and the place is packed in the afternoons for the lunch crowd. Yup, an amazing buffet is served. Dinner finds all the tables and booths decked with lovely dinner dishes, wine glasses..the whole deal. The food is HOT, FRESH and the head chef is the owner's Mom. This small, lovely Chinese lady works 80 hours every week. His Dad works there, as well as his sister. New menus are coming soon that will show a picture beside every dish. This week my husband and I shared the Hawaii special, sweet and sour chicken with pineapple and three cream cheese puffs on the top. One order of beef and vegetables plus an order of their fried rice. No drinks other than water. The bill was $ 36. They also have wonderful desserts. These people have built a huge business both in the restaurant and for catering. Strongly suggest you go to this place. People come from Rosemount, Burnsville Lakeville and, of course.. Farmington. Absolutely LOVE this place. Wengs has won a few awards but it's not the award that has me coming back, it's their food and their service. Been here a few dozen times and every time has been outstanding. I usually order the tenderloin steak, orange chicken, seafood salt and pepper. The crispy shanghai spring rolls and crab rangoon are to die for. They even have fresh coconut chopped to order for you to drink. Its amazing. We were passing through Farmington for the weekend due to my son's swim meet. Under most circumstances, we would love to eat at Farmington's Steakhouse. Unfortunately, it was closed on Sunday. It was late and we decided to do take out. Weng's Kitchen fits the bill perfectly. Beside all the good reviews via Yelp, you know a very good Chinese take out when you noticed from behind the counter that there were over 10 orders waiting to be pick up. Although I didn't notice too many asian families(my self test if the place is any good) coming to pick up their items, I wasn't too worried because this is Farmington after all...I am a stranger in a foreign land and 'beggars' can't be choosy. Although I ordered over 5 dishes, the following had the best reviews from my family's table - in other words, my 'animals'(children) ate it without caring how many bites I get from the meal... * General Tsoa Chicken * Salt/Pepper Squid (Now this is what calamari should taste like) * Black Pepper Beef (my personal favorite by far - medium rare, thick - totally amazing) I had the chance to make small talk with the Owner(Tony) while waiting for my takeout. Wow. Does not disappoint on portion size or flavor. We had the Letter E and Orange Chicken combos. Needless to say there was some still on the plates as these are easily two person meals. The rice was nicely fried and steamed. The chicken was hot (temperature) and the veggies were cooked but crispy. The orange chicken was one pepper spicy level, and 1x spicy. So we threw a little sriracha sauce on it to pep it up. I'm sure they are use to making things MN spicy vs. kick you spicy. Next time we will order up a level in spice. The sauce in the chicken egg fu y was a little heavy on the soy and I would recommend skipping it to really enjoy the natural flavors of the egg next time. It can carry itself without a sauce. Also had the plum wine and wow! Tastes like you're drinking a lively juice, zero bitter aftertaste... and then it hits you like tequila. When they bring it and you think... that glass doesn't have enough wine. Shut up and drink it SLOW. I was glad my husband only had water so he could drive home. Would definitely recommend it and will be picking some up at the local wine store for another day. Service was super friendly and FAST. We will definitely be visiting again! read more

We ate there yesterday for lunch buffet. We have sampled Asia buffets throughout the south and SW suburbs. Most are similar in food taste, with some of these buffets having more selections to choose from. All have the tasteless dessert selections, including Wengs. May I say we might be spoiled, as we have had the extreme pleasure of often having eaten at Leennn Chin's buffet at the long defunct sit-down Minnetonka restaurant. (closed due to a 50%+ stock-owner-investor who did a hostile take-over). Anyway, Weng's buffet is similar to all the others. The food was fine, but not memorable. The chicken items were tender and the green beans excellent. There were no selections containing any seafood. The "salad" section was basically lettuce and a couple dressings. The wait staff were pleasant. We will not be returning, as there are buffets with similar tasting food and larger selections closer to home. It is very possible that ordering off Weng's sit down menu produces better tasting food. One similar tasting lunch buffet we did try is Lakes in Richfield: with three times the selection, loads of fresh fruit, a personalized stir fry section, a create a soup section, and sushi -- all for about $1. more than Weng's. Yeah, this place is legit! I was in Apple Valley and craving Chinese food for lunch. I jumped on Yelp and after reading other reviews I was compelled to make the drive to Farmington. I'm so glad I did! It is obvious this kitchen has a passion for quality, not only in their food but their service as well. It's probably the best Chinese lunch buffet I've ever enjoyed. The food was fresh, hot, tasty and created from passion and above average quality ingredients. The buffet was frequently attended and refreshed, although I'm not sure how much freshening it needed because there were a lot of other customers who seemed to really be enjoying this little secret of a place as well. Their fried rice was worth including on all trips to the buffet (including dessert). And they had me at 'hello' when I noticed they had potstickers offered as well. I sampled everything and the only two complaints I could come up with were 1) the egg drop soup could have used a little more aromatic and 2) the background music volume was so low it seemed a little like a library rather than a restaurant. Yup, I realize these are very small things to complain about but it's all I could find to point a finger at. And I didn't care because I was happy I made the decision to spend my lunch money (and little extra drive time) on such a great meal. Thank you Weng's Kitchen! Oh my! Weng's is, hands down, one of the best Chinese restaurants. Let me put it this way, you can get four-to-five star quality dishes for a I'm-located-in-a-strip-mall price. Seriously. If Weng's opened a new location and made it all fancy with intimate lighting, they could easily cook less food and charge top dollar and get away with it. In many establishments, a restaurant is known for their "signature" dish that everyone likes. Here, nearly every dish is top quality. I use the term "nearly" simply because I haven't experienced them all. But so far, all the ones I have tried are so, so good. My favorite dishes are beef and broccoli, Mongolian beef, and the sesame chicken. Portion sizes are generous and everything seems to be made from scratch. They offer a lunch buffet on weekdays, and the food is just as good as if you were ordering off the menu. I'm dead serious. Go here. You won't regret it. read more

I really want this business to do well and they seem to be doing that. That being said, I find it odd that everyone gives this place 5 stars! Maybe that just shows the sad state of the dining selections in and around Farmington. I have been here twice now, both times for the lunch buffet. The buffet is mediocre, at best. Some of the entrees were decent, some just tasted the same as the other. The egg rolls are cut into little pieces and were not good and barely warm. They seem to bring out small portions and if nobody eats it, they get cold. Much of the food I had was not hot enough to pass health standards. In my opinion. The Egg Foo Young patties were not very good at all. They had some breaded, deep fried wings that were very fatty. The service was good and the decor is decent. Everything about Weng's is outstanding. The food, the staff, the portion size; this place is a gem and Farmington is so lucky to have them. I always order take-out or delivery so I cannot comment on the buffet. However, their take-out is spectacular. I have also been to a couple of events that have been catered by Weng's and they go above and beyond for catering. They provide so much food that there is often enough for everyone to have seconds or thirds AND to give leftovers out by the plateful! All food is always superb quality. I was actually SUPER excited to come here and check it out based upon all the reviews but I thought the whole thing was extremely anticlimactic. It's a Chinese buffet. It was fine. It was pretty small. Everything was very saucy. Lots of deep fried stuff. The "salad" was a joke, just some iceberg lettuce and broccoli, with several dressings you could put on it. I liked the teriyaki chicken skewers and the spicy chicken. BBQ pork was decent too, and the doughnuts were awesome. Everything else was just okay. My kiddo rated it 2 stars. Service was good, dirty dishes were whisked away immediately and the people working were extremely polite. I don't really think I'll be back though, didn't live up to the hype and there are a lot of other Asian places that are nearby that are good and seem much healthier. read more
