I am on a very restrictive diet and I found myself out with no snacks or prepped food. It was also raining cats and dogs so I didn't want to get out of the car with the baby and run into a grocery store. I came upon this Wendy's location and ordered a Baconator with no bun. I fully expected a slapped together stack of meat cheese and bacon because of the strange request, and to my delight they packaged it up with a knife and fork so I could eat the deliciousness like a civilized person. They didn't bat an eye at the strange request and the staff were very friendly.

got a honey chicken sandwich from wendys and instead of just dipping the chicken in honey she somehow thought it was better to dip the whole chicken sandwich in honey and the chickens still dry so a soggy bun and hard chicken

I don't eat fast food often but when I do I prefer Wendy's. What do I love about Wendy's?...everything. I normally get their spicy chicken value meal. It is actually REAL chicken and not fake chicken like BK or McDonald's serve. What really sets Wendy's a part from their competition is their fries, they are so much better than those chincy fries the other fast food places serve. I love the fact that they serve "square", real not frozen hamburgers. Sure they are not the best burger you will ever eat,and if it is I feel sorry for you, but it is good as far as fast food goes. Stay frosty my friends....

Supposedly the bbq sandwiches. Meat and cheese. Where's the rest???

Another friend, Pam, had highly recommended Emma Jayne's Restaurant which is only a couple of traffic lights from Trader Joe's - a perfect location for our trip. The restaurant sits just north of Fred the Butcher (next door, literally) for those who frequent that establishment, on Route 9. There is off-street parking. When we arrived at 12:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, the front parking spaces were full. (Note: there may be parking around back; I didn't check) We thought we might have to wait for a table. Wrong! The restaurant is surprisingly spacious with two large rooms furnished with tables that were thoughtful spaced apart. A photo of an adorable young girl, whom we assumed was the dining establishment's namesake, was on the wall. Let me be sure to mention that the ladies room, which smelled faintly of bleach, was spotless. I mean REALLY clean! About the food ... my friend and I shared an appetizer of Fried Calamari. It was an ample portion (took some home) accompanied by sweet chili sauce - a nice change from typical marinara served at other places. However, the calamari was small and overcooked. As a result, what was presented was a plate of small, overly crisp rings of 90% batter. No squid! For our entrees, Barb chose the Chicken Salad Sandwich. She requested that it be served on a pretzel bun (touted as homemade) for which we were hit with an up-charge of $3.50. The chicken salad had grapes and walnuts in it and Barb liked it very much. The up-charged pretzel roll did not appear to be homemade. Very disappointing. Had she known it would be uninspiring, she would have accepted the brioche roll. Macaroni salad - not very exciting - accompanied the sandwich along with a pickle. I love seafood and was torn between ordering the Fish and Chips (halibut) and Lobster Pot Pie (an appetizer). Our server, Drew, gets a gold star for suggesting the second one when I told him I wasn't a big eater. Apparently, the halibut, while highly recommended, is a sizable portion. The pot pie was superb! The rich, creamy sauce was divine. I couldn't eat it all and will enjoy the rest of it for lunch today. Emma Jayne's menu has something for everyone. Our server, Drew, was informative and attentive. While we may make other food choices (skip the calamari and pretzel bun but keep the pot pie), we will definitely return.

Translucent fabric above the deck helps to diffuse the strong sunlight. While the draft beers available are not likely to attract those interested mostly in craft beers, the variety offered should be sufficient to accommodate those looking for a good brew to pair with the food they order. And we're talking about homemade pub food. While my companions chose sodas to go with their burgers, I decided on a Fiddlehead IPA ($5.50). My wife ordered the Cheddar & Bacon Burger (19 klams) and two of us ordered the Smokehouse Burger (19 klams). All burgers are half-pound, hand-crafted, freshly ground beef served with lettuce, tomato, and onion on a grilled brioche roll. They are also accompanied by fresh-cut fries and pineapple slaw. We all ordered our burgers medium-rare, and the kitchen complied. While the Cheddar & Bacon Burger is self-explanatory, the Smokehouse Burger includes a brown sugar BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon and a homemade onion ring. The bacon on all our burgers was thick, crispy, and very tasty. The side of pineapple slaw was fresh and flavorful, the fries were better than average, and the rolls were soft and tasty. There are a number of other items on their menu that look inviting. I unfortunately, only took a photo of one side of the menu, but that should be enough to make you want to check them out. They also offer specials each night. Did I mention the complimentary bowl of popcorn?

An earlier email reminder from the Mealeo CEO that I had over $3 in Mealeo credits reminded me that this would be a good opportunity to place my order at Country Drive-In through Mealeo to take advantage of my rewards. I was initially surprised that upon placing our order at 6:30 pm that it was not going to be ready until 7:15. But when I arrived at CD-I at 7:10 I could better understand. They were slammed with customers. I let the pickup window know that I was there for my order, and they said they would check on it. At exactly 7:15 they brought my order to the window. Ahh, reliable efficiency! My wife had decided to order a Tuna Melt ($8.39), I went traditional with the Sausage sandwich ($9.59), and a large order of Homemade Onion Rings ($7.19) for us to share. The Tuna Melt had little if any tuna flavor, very disappointing. The Sausage was one of the best I've had from them (there have been some off years recently). It was just greasy enough with the peppers and onions on top of the sausage patty that the fresh and soft brioche bun (not the hard roll indicated on the menu) prevented any loss of drippings for a flavorful bite each time. The onion rings were perfect this time also. Not overly greasy even as they cooled down. All of this is why we keep returning every season.

It being July 4th, Independence Day, I thought it would be an appropriate day to enjoy a hot dog. Just ask Joey Chestnut! I'm not going to reduce my # of *s because we really enjoyed our food and beverages. But I do have to question what I had to drink. The board said it was an Ommegang Grande Tripel stout at 5.5 ABV ($9). That level of ABV would be reasonable for a stout, but the color of the brew was golden like a typical Tripel, and not dark like the typical Stout. The bartender gave us a sample, and it was full of flavor with my wife noticing the vanilla tones that were described by the bartender. I didn't initially identify any specific flavor other than delicious and different than I would have expected from a stout. I also would not take issue with the posted 5.5 ABV. HOWEVER, a quick reference to Ommegang online as I write this says that it is a Belgium Tripel and the ABV is 9. Yes, NINE ABV! I would definitely have noticed if I were drinking a 9 ABV on an empty stomach. I also would have noticed it driving the car after finishing a pint within one hour. For those familiar with Utah Phillips, "It was good though!" But on to the food. We ordered a shareable Tot-Chos ($12.99) consisting of tater tots, tomatoes, avocado, cheese sauce, pickled jalapeños, and chipotle aioli. These were very tasty and not too spicy, with crispy on the outside and soft on the inside tots. My wife ordered the Sooo Cali ($10.99) hot dog. The black angus beef hot dog is very tasty even before it is topped with wild arugula, tomato, avocado, crispy onion strings, and spicy basil aioli. The combined flavors work well together on the Kings Hawaiian rolls. My choice was to try the Hogfather ($10.99) - a pork bratwurst with bacon chipotle onion jam, chipotle aioli, and miso ranch. The bratwurst was delicious and again, the flavors worked well together. BTW, my wife had a Grimm Nothing But Citra ($8), an IPA that even I found acceptable. We really need to return here more frequently.

I like thin, crispy burgers and they do it well though despite the handy paper handle to hold it with your fingers will get very messy. My son absolutely loved his burger too. The fries were much better than what I had experienced at their other location. These seemed pre-cut, perhaps pre-frozen, and coated in cornstarch. The top of the container were nice and crispy though they got soggy as you went down. I wish they arranged them flat on a plate, which might keep their texture better (though result in them getting colder faster). All in all, I like this place. Their prices are very steep for the small burgers you get, but they are high quality. So, I dunno. I can't come here more than for special occasions but when I do I think I will just stick with the burgers and skip the fries.
