    Mayo on my Chicken Sandwich
    Bob J.

I really enjoyed my experience at this Wendys. We passed through the drive-thru with a big order, and it was still ready very quickly! I had a chicken sandwich, and there was an obnoxious amount of mayo, but overall it was good.

5 star because of the atmosphere. We're road tripping and needed to pull off and stumbled into here... Am I in the lounge of a chic hip hotel? No! I'm at a Wendy's in rural Georgia!!! Nicest Wendy's EVER!!! Wow!!! Parking lot is packed and I understand why! Smiles on staff. Food as good as Wendy's gets. Lounge chairs, faux wall fireplace, flat screens, designer lighting... this must be a testing model. If they build new restaurants like this, Wendy's may take over the top 2! Wow, still in shock. Ps- bathrooms are average. Not bad/ not great. Please thumb up/comment if you liked this review and I would count it a privilege if you chose to follow me as I review places I travel and visit. Thank you for taking the time to read! ~mp

A panoramic view of the nicest Wendy's in the history of Wendy's.

So apparently this used to be a really nasty Wendy's, but they literally must have just reopened because this is now the nicest, fanciest, most hospitable Wendy's I have ever been to. Like, so nice I felt compelled to write a review for a fast food location. That's pretty serious. There is free wifi, lots of plugs and comfy seating, and one of those fancy pants soda machines where you can make weird drinks like vanilla ginger ale (it was actually pretty good). The service was fantastic, the ladies behind the counter were very welcoming and accommodating. She even ran over to the cooks to make sure they understood my special requests. And when our food was ready, she brought it out to our table. For the record: the restrooms were spotless!

Each thing on the menu is a bold take on a traditional dish that generally is excellent. It was so good that we made a point to come back just two weeks later while we were in Cartersville, hoping to order it again. Unfortunately, the second visit was a completely different experience. We arrived around 5:15 p.m. and were immediately asked if we had a reservation. There were plenty of empty tables, yet the hostess made us feel like showing up without a reservation was somehow an inconvenience. We were eventually seated, but it wasn't exactly a welcoming start. Then came what was easily one of the most obnoxious servers I've ever had. He spent more time delivering awkward, canned one-liners than providing good service. He constantly interrupted our meal with quirky comments that weren't funny or entertaining--they were just distracting. To make matters worse, when we asked about the amazing Thai dish we'd had only two weeks earlier, he told us it had already been removed from the menu. Apparently, rotating menu items this quickly is common here. We ordered two different entrées. One was decent. Mine was terrible. It was another Thai-inspired noodle dish made with sweet potato noodles (if I remember correctly). The presentation looked like dog food, and the noodles were so overcooked they had turned into mush. Between the disappointing food and the overbearing server, it made for a long evening. Our food also took more than 50 minutes to arrive after we were seated. After three visits--only one of which had been genuinely enjoyable--we decided to take a break from Table 20. Then we saw a Facebook post featuring catfish over Gouda grits with what looked like a corn and cabbage topping. It looked incredible, so we decided to give the restaurant one more chance this past Saturday. This time I played it safe and made a reservation. We were seated immediately, and thankfully we had a pleasant, professional server. We ordered the catfish and the Pad Thai with spicy mushrooms. The catfish was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it was underwhelming. A good remoulade or complementary sauce would have gone a long way. The Pad Thai, however, was one of the worst restaurant dishes I've been served in a long time. The mushrooms were burned completely black--crunchy, bitter, and tasting like burnt popcorn. That burnt flavor had spread throughout the entire dish, making it completely inedible. I asked our server if it was supposed to be prepared that way, even though I already knew the answer. She said it didn't look like that when she had tried it previously. She took a few of the mushrooms back to the kitchen to ask the chef. She returned with a small mason jar of freshly cooked mushrooms that were soft and perfectly prepared--but completely unseasoned. Unfortunately, replacing the mushrooms didn't solve the problem because the noodles themselves had already absorbed the overwhelming burnt flavor. I tried eating a few bites but simply couldn't finish it. When I explained that the dish was inedible because of the burned mushrooms, our server handled the situation professionally. She offered a complimentary dessert, a free cocktail, or another entrée to go. I appreciated the effort, but at that point I just wanted an entrée that was cooked correctly the first time. To their credit, they removed the Pad Thai from the bill. I still tipped based on what the full total would have been because none of this was our server's fault. She did everything she could to make things right. What disappointed me most was that neither a manager nor the chef ever came to our table to apologize or even acknowledge what had happened. A dish in that condition should never have left the kitchen in the first place. The lack of quality control--and the lack of management involvement afterward--was honestly more disappointing than the bad meal itself. At this point, we've given Table 20 multiple chances. When the food is good, it's very good. But when it's bad, it's really bad. The inconsistency makes it feel like you're rolling the dice every time you eat there, especially considering the prices. For us, that's enough. We won't be returning anytime soon.

We sat in the main dining area when something from the ceiling started dripping on us. In addition, the music is much too loud if you are trying to carry on a conversation. Very interesting memorabilia, but that is about the only selling point. Whoever the owner is appears to be giving a nod to the Jim Crow laws in a political way. The bathrooms show "Democrats only" and "Republicans only", and the whole vibe is pro Republican. Most of us have political opinions, but it seems very short sighted of this business to make it so blatant. We will never come back, and I've talked to a number of people who feel the same way. There are much better restaurants in the area whose owners don't interject politics into your dining experience.

While the staff was friendly, their concern for safe food handling practices were nonexistent. There were no gloves, no handwashing and no concern for hygiene as they dug their bare hands into a Sara Lee burger bun bag and plated up a burger patty that'd been sitting in lukewarm water and slapped a piece of American cheese on top of it. It was like getting served by a toddler putting together play food in their make believe kitchen. I was truly astonished. Like I said, service was kind and country friendly, but that alone can't be the reason to keep this counter service spot in business. The food quality and safety was questionable and the food itself tasted worse than I'd expect prison food to taste like. At the end of the meal, I glanced and saw the health score and if I recall, their score was in the 70s. I've since looked at their health score history and see they have no intent in changing behaviors of cleanliness, as they've been repeat offenders of improper holding food temperature, cross contamination, and use of open container beverages among food prep areas. What can you say? You get what you pay for, I guess.
