I could not have been more let down by this place. I know there are places around that have good wings - but I've heard this place is very good. So I went with some friends to check it out. First, we walk in and there is no one obviously working and there is no indication if it is seat-yourself or wait-to-be-seated. So we crack open the menu; I'm expecting chicken wing bliss and basically get 5 sauces. Oh yeah, and all of them are buffalo style/flavor. Two of our group ask the waitress about barbeque wings. She gave us a perplexed look and offered plain wings with a side of barbeque sauce. Apparently applying the barbeque sauce wasn't an option. SO OKAY, whatever - they order their bbq sauce on the side. Eventually the wings show up and they were fine. Not amazing, not awful either. They were really small, though. 8 bucks for ten wings? Yes, I was hoping for more. We ate and bailed. This place is cash only. So, in short: this place sucks. The atmosphere sucks (and my expectations weren't high to begin with - I'm okay with dive bars), the service sucks (bad attitude, reluctance to apply non-buffalo sauce, tables were not cleared) and the wings basically suck also (are nothing special at all). This place blows. I agree that you either need cheap wings or beer when eating wings, and this place has neither. Wings are expensive, blue cheese is extra, no veggies, bad service, crappy place, why the hell bother? The wings were scrawny and overcooked. The sauce was not bad but it's not buffalo sauce either, it's like they tried too hard to be different. They've said in the past that the "optional" blue cheese was so that people can pick blue cheese or ranch, or neither, but everywhere else I've been includes them for free. Great place for hot wings. They have several levels of hotness, from not hot, to the secret suicidal that they do not put on the menu (you have to ask the waitress for it). I can usually take the mediums at the max. Waiting for a table can take a while, especially on busy nights, but they do take-out. I wish they had a larger beer selection, but you really go there for the wings. Surprisingly their burgers were pretty good too, though probably frozen patties. read more

Wendell's is the best place for buffalo wings. The kitchen is very small and can cause long waits but they clearly tell you this on the menu. They do their best to keep up with the demand but you usually end up waiting. The decor is also nothing to write home about. Paneling, old booths, big empty space in the middle of the floor, small bar in the back room, small bathrooms. But who cares.. it's about the WINGS!! I enjoy the 3.5 or the Extra Spicy. And these have plenty of kick. I can't imagine how hot the one that isn't on the menu is. Must be ridiculous. I also love the crinkle cut fries. So tasty. I just hate that they come before the wings and therefore don't last :) The onion rings are also tasty. I can also say the blue cheese here is top notch. I like a side of BC with my wings and fries. You would have thought we forced her to work there. 50% of the tables were open and she gave us the a huge attitude that she could not accommodate 10 people. I've been going to Wendell's for 20 years and they are still the best buffalo wings I've ever had, and I am a huge fan of buffalo wings. I love the small wings. Giant meaty wings have been fed hormones and are not natural. Wendell's wings are perfectly cooked and crispy, all meat. The sauce must have drugs in it, once you have it you crave to have it again. Always order a basket of fries, salt them up and dip them in their house made blue cheese. So good. The service may take a while but you can relax and have a beer, chat with friends or strangers at the bar, plan for the wait that is so worth it. Wendell's seems to be a comfortable, local sports bar/hangout. The decor is simple with one large room as you enter. It is ringed by booths, and there are a few tables in the middle. One of these was set up for a big family group. The bar is at the back. On a Friday night it was crowded with people who all seemed to know each other and were there to relax with a drink and watch the hockey game. We grabbed a booth and were greeted fairly promptly. There were a couple of nice things that stood out. When We ordered the wings, the server let us know the bone-in variety were fresh every day and that they would be cooked to order. She advised us it would be a bit of a wait, so if we wanted another order to get it in quick so as to not have to wait again. One order was good for our snack. She also explained that the wings were sold by the pound rather than the piece but that they were currently running about ten wings per pound. We both though this was an equitable and good way to do wings. The wings were delicious as advertised. The 3.5 sauce, supposed to be in the middle, was plenty hot enough, and we tolerate heat well! Price was good at $8.50 for the 11 wings that made our pound. read more

Going to start with the good: 1. Everyone bragged about the wings and I was pleasantly surprised as people tend to over sell a place like this. The sauces had amazing flavor. I would stick with 3.5 as I do like to taste the wings and this has really good flavor and heat. 2. Not outrageous prices and a great variety of flavors for the wing enthusiast, which I am. 3. Locals seem pretty friendly and willing to discuss the different flavors and offer their opinions without being too demanding Now the bad: 1. Service takes FOREVER!!! There were about 8 people total in the restaurant and it took 45 minutes for the wings. It was a quick stop for lunch, not an all day adventure. 2. It is a complete DUMP! So gross and dirty. Looks like they haven't put any money into this place in 35-40 years. 3. Wings are a little lean on meat. The flavor helps, but the wings are kind of small and some of them have very little meat on them. All-in-all, I would recommend trying this place if you like wings. The wings are the reason I went here and for the most part, I was impressed. The cleanliness and service really bring this place down, which is too bad as there aren't a lot of good wing places out there. I'm a hot wing fanatic - I have my own blog where I review wings of all kinds wherever I go - and Wendell's is one of my favorites. Their sauces are flavorful and spicy, and there's a range of heat levels to choose from. As much as I love hot and spicy wings, I love their sissy wings, which is a garlic based sauce. Combine that with some 3.5's and you've got an awesome meal. And the wings are ALWAYS nice and crispy. I agree with the blue cheese review - some of the best I've had. The only caveat: the wait time. It can be very long, but come prepared: a deck of cards and some money for the jukebox. You'll be fine if you come well-prepared to wait and it WILL be worth it. (NOTE: No credit cards. There's an ATM across the street at the CVS, but it is a busy road to cross. I've gone and bought a pack of gum at the Walgreen's next door instead and gotten cash back). read more

The best part about this place is how they serve their wings. They have these wooden bowls that are just slathered in the sauce you order. There's so much sauce, it's incredible. Another great thing is that you can buy their sauces by the pint to bring home. Sweet! I mean, spicy! (man that was super f*&@ing lame) The only downsides to this place are: It's an hour's drive from my current apartment. The service can be slow sometimes. But, as it says on their menu: "Two fryolators, one grill, and only one cook - this is our tiny kicthen's fate. So although we may take some extra time, most will agree - it's worth the wait!" I switched things up this year and on a recommendation from a client spent my annual father-in-law bonding time at Wendell's instead of down the road at Trinity. Wendell's slings around some of the best wings I have ever tasted, tilting in at a 4.5 stars on the 5 star wing quality scale. It's worth noting that no chicken wing has ever been awarded that elusive 5 star rating, I'm always going to hold out hope that there is an undiscovered country of buffalo wing sauce and bleu cheese that will form that perfect flavor profile of chicken and crunch. I wanted to add that my day with the father-in-law (annual Xmas eve guy time) always starts out with a mani-pedi. I love clean pores, but de-beautifying myself by sticking my newly buffed to shine nails in a wing basket added a rebel element to the experience and upped the stakes. A couple of important things to add is that Wendell's accepts greenbacks only and is a dive, so no first dates here gentlemen. It also has a long history in Norton (it has been open since at least the 1970's), and I have heard stories of how you can trace pivotal business and political dealings in this town that started through a meeting of the minds at Wendell's. read more

I used to love this place. About 5 years ago, when they had Dart Boards and a team, we played there and ate quite a bit. Wings were good, beer was cheap, and service wasn't bad. The last few times, the wings have been small and dry, the service wasn't very good. And the cost has gone through the roof. The good first: The wings are very, very good! The rest: It feels like a towny bar. Its dark, drab, and straight out of 1970. You feel like you're being nickeled and dimed for everything. Order a burger with lettuce, tomato and onion and you get charged for lettuce, tomato and onion all nicely itemized on your bill. Same with blue cheese dressing for your wings or sour cream for your potato skins. There's an average beer list with everything you'd expect to be on it and nothing more. If you go to Wendell's get the wings and your favorite run of the mill beer and nothing else. It's just not worth the time or money to go off the beaten track here. read more

Two were decent size and one was smaller than other two. Blue cheese does not come with any wings!!! paid $6 just for blue cheese. My sons apple juice tasted like water mixed with honey. Service is very very slow and NOT to friendly!!! BATHROOM ARE ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING, could even let my children go. Had to wait until we left. Worst money i have ever spent!!! I'm a wing nut. This place delivers the goods. My frist trip in, at the suggestion of friends, I went right for broke and took on the double dare wings. Aside from being REALLLLLY spicy, I was surprised to find they also had flavor. Many time these 'outrageous' spiced wings are nothing but burning heat. At later trips, Iv'e tried various degrees of heat and all have been great. They tend to over fry the wings, which reduces them in size, but makes for a very crispy wing which is great considering the amount of sauce they slather on. It's no secret that this place is a dive - but the lines of hungry folks don't lie. A pitcher of Mt. Dew, a freshly spun order of 3.5 wings, a side of frys... makes for a happy me. read more
