So disappointing that this place that used to be really cute place has gone downhill. On my…read moreoriginal visits, the food was good and the service was great! Not so much anymore. My husband and i stopped in last week for breakfast. There were approx 4 tables seated and two new tables of two that came in behind us. Honestly the entire place felt dirty and sloppy. We sat for 15 minutes while the only waitress in the restaurant took care of all the tables including the two that came in after us because she apparently knew them. Both tables got their drinks and orders input to the cook before we were even approached. (We were never approached) We left. With one cook who did nothing to help the waitress and one waitress who honestly looked tired and sloppy and could not be bothered acknowledging us or get us water and coffee , we just didn't feel like the breakfast would measure up to our former visits. We went to Bob Evans instead.

Came here for lunch. Cute diner with exterior and interior to match. Just past Elvis is a glass refrigerator case with shelves of pie and cake slices. There is a counter and stools straight ahead, and memorabilia on the walls. We sat in a cozy booth and our server was prompt and courteous. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, served with provolone, arugula, bacon, and Southwest ranch dressing, with a side of well seasoned fries. It was quite good with a decent piece of chicken. My husband had the turkey club wrap, with the same contents, but chose onion rings as his side. They were fresh and tasty. A quick and satisfying lunch. Bonus: one parking spot designated for veterans. Thank you.

The Fat Man tries to find hidden gems, holes in the walls, or any small mom-and-pop establishment…read morewith good food. While traveling in northern Kentucky, he stumbled upon one of these places, The Farmstand Market & Cafe. Farmstand offers comfort food with a farm-to-table focus served in a cozy space with a bar and attached market. We started with the Goetta Hanky Panky Dip. This was made with cheesy goetta, bagel chips, pumpernickel bread, and light rye served in a cast iron skillet. The dip had a good sausage flavor with salt and some light spice while being cheesy, creamy, and full of flavor. The bagel chips were very crispy but were not served warm. The pumpernickel and rye were dry. Each complimented the dip, adding texture to the bite. My wife had the Reuben Sandwich. This sandwich came with sliced corned beef, homemade Thousand Island, pickled pig sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on light rye with bacon ranch pasta salad. The pasta salad was cooked spot on while also being creamy. The bacon added crunch and saltiness to the salad. The rye had a great toast, and the Thousand Island was tangy and creamy. The pastrami was dry but had a good salty flavor. The sauerkraut was crunchy and had a good sour flavor cutting through the salty meat and the sweet dressing. The cheese was gooey and nutty and added flavor to each bite. I sampled the French dip sandwich and Mulligatawny soup. This was prepared with a sliced top round with provolone on a French roll. The soup was prepared with rice, chicken, carrots, onions, celery, lentils and spices. The chicken was very tender, the rice was cooked well, and the vegetables added texture to the rice. The soup was flavorful, had a wonderful aroma, and had a good salt content. The top round was thin and offered good flavor and chew. The roll was fresh and had a good chew paired with the ooey and gooey cheese with an excellent buttery flavor. The au jus had good flavor but was slightly salty, which overpowered it. Farmstand offers grilled cheeses, hot sandwiches, burgers, salads, appetizers, soups and main entrees. They also serve beer and have a full bar. The servers were pleasant and knowledgeable. The Fat Man says that The Farmstand Market & Cafe is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin.

Pleasant Diner embedded in a gas station right off the interstate 70. We went based on the Google…read morereviews. I do think that perhaps many of the ratings are a bit higher than our experience. It could have been an off day for the kitchen team. I do suspect however that the food quality, and preparation is consistent and it just didn't quite meet what I would consider a four/five. I have travelled quite a bit throughout the world, had some really awful things and some high end, highly rated meals/places. It is simply decorated, and was reasonably clean. The server staff was friendly and effective, no issues with any of that. They even calmly managed to navigate a power outage that occurred, fortunately right after we got our meals delivered. I got a BPT sandwich and fries, and ordered a side of coleslaw. The slaw was actually pretty well done, crispy, just enough sweet to balance with the tang of vinegar. Where they fell off a bit on execution (or product choice) was the BPT. It was more of a fritter (likely frozen) vs. a pounded actual fresh pork tenderloin cut. It was thin, a bit "bready" throughout (not just coating). The bun was a tad bit stale, but they had toasted it as a good move to counter that. My wife got a turkey ranch wrap with fries. The name could easily be changed to ranch and hint of turkey wrap. The turkey prep is small cubes (may or may not be a Sysco bag of cubes type product), and there was simply too much ranch dressing, the cheese and vegetables were lost in a too wet, undisciplined glop inside of a spongy tortilla. It looks okay, but just doesn't hold up in actual eating. I wish them continued success, but I don't think we would be likely to stop again as we pass through the area.

Great food and service…read more On a recent trip we were looking for something local to dine at and came across this restaurant. It is located next to the grocery store. It is located in a Kroger strip mall area but is slightly higher class than what one might think when they hear that. It was a weird off-peak time so it was no issue getting seated right away and service was pretty good. We started our late lunch and our vacation with a cocktail, both of which were pretty tasty! I wanted to make sure I got some veggies in me before a week+ of vacation eating, so I got a side salad, which was pretty ample for a side! I also got the mushroom ricotta dip appetizer as a "meal" and it was pretty delicious! Cheese, mushrooms and carbs...you can't go wrong with that in my opinion! We had an okay time, and we were able to dawdle and not be rushed. It wasn't our first choice on the day and likely wouldn't be at another time, but it was more than decent as a secondary/back-up choice for a place to eat.
