Signs are posted with a phone number to checks if fields are already reserved. The trail is a paved multi-use trail. It snakes around the various sports fields. Pavement is pretty smooth with only minor cracks. A great area to learn how to ride a bike. Use of bikes and skates are allowed on the trail. Dogs are also allowed. A large play structure is situated in the middle of the park. There is a also sandbox with two diggers. There are some shady areas that would be nice for a picnic. If a baseball game is in progress make sure to watch out for fly balls.

The playground along the eastern edge of Summit Park was very popular with the kids, There are135 acres (!) of greenspace, a fish-stocked (!) catch-and-release pond, and more climbers and such for older kids. The walkers and dog-owners among us liked the long network of paved paths and the dog-park area. There's a central open space apparently for concerts and such. I admit, i spent most of my time watching from outside the kids' playground, and listening to a band over the covered walkway next to the taco place, with a relaxing beverage from the nearby bar :-). Sometimes it's nice not to be in charge. None of us braved the cool-looking 9-level 153-foot observation tower because the we site said that the elevators were closed at the time. They say you can see downtown! There is also a slippery splash and play "water course" to explore which was closed, too, during our visit. They say there's ice skating in the winter. The whole experience worked for us because of the nice restaurants, bars, and ice cream shops along the north and east edges of the park. We ate twice with different groups at the Mexican taco place, and three times at the park-themed restaurant. We had coffee and drinks from the cafe / bar / bottle-store. We got ice cream twice! We didnt make it to the bakery or the diner, or the chic nail salon which could have been nice for some me-time :-).

There's lots of well-maintained grass between these things and in the evenings many clubs use the space for soccer practice. Like I said, I come here often for the access to the bike trail but would also recommend the park to anyone looking for a nice area to get outside. While I cannot speak for the quality of the restrooms, I still would bring friends or family here for a picnic.

Winton Woods, like all of the Great Parks, does require a vehicle permit. If you're a Hamilton County resident, you can snag a day pass for $5. Since my husband and I drove up from NKY, our pass was $8. I have no problem paying a bit for a well-maintained park! If you think you'll visit more than twice a year, it's worth it to just buy the annual pass for $16. They do accept both cash and card at the main gate. My husband and I brought our dogs to hike Kingfisher Trail on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. While the harbor was pretty busy, and several of the covered picnic areas had been claimed, we were some of the only people on the trail. This is a pretty easy loop -- and while there is a small uphill portion, it's not steep at all. Dogs do have to remain leashed -- but there's plenty for them to sniff and explore right on the trail. As the weather continues to warm up, I'm sure we'll return to Winton Woods again soon!

The playground is an interesting setup that I haven't seen before - rather than doing one large playground or even two split by age ranges, this one has multiple different elements spread out across the area, ranging from more typical swing options (traditional, baby, accessible, tire), seesaws, and slides to sand play options (the digging machines were cool) and more unique jungle gym set-ups - the one had a slide that didn't appear to have any sides to it and the other offered climbing opportunities but seemingly rather challenging with large holes and spaces in it. The whole area seemed quite popular as there was quite a crowd. There is a nice paved parking lot available, including EV charging spots.

For older kids, this looks like the real deal. It's clean, there's a big covered picnic area, swings galore. I believe you do have to pay sometimes but I really don't know. Each time I've been, the gate has been open and we walked right in. Other times, I believe they close the gate and you have to pay at the building. Highly recommend calling ahead of time or looking online. Clean, safe, fun overall!
