I had also ruled out mini blinds since the cat would destroy them in quick order and I ruled out drapes since the cat did not need anything more for his climbing exercises. Don of Blinds by Design came highly recommended and I found him installing in the neighborhood, so I asked him to come over and discuss options. We decided on shutters that have two parts--the top can be open for light and the bottom area can be closed for privacy. Don measured the windows, quoted a price that I found more than fair, and ordered them after taking a deposit. I was surprised to learn that the shutters would be fabricated in Baja California. Deliver took over two weeks and they arrived marked for the correct windows. Don's quick and good work has convinced my sister to have him put up shutters in her house. Also, they custom make their shutters in the San Fernando County area and was able to manufacture & install our shutters within 10 to 14 days. When they installed the shutters, they all looked beautiful! They did fantastic job with installing them. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for shutters to be installed at your place. We think the pricing was fair as well. I don't remember pricing though but I do remember that my parents thought it was fair value. We were interested in changing them out for motorized shades and Rommel came out to our home for the consultation. He explained that the original cellular shades could not be retro-fitted to be motorized, so we would have to buy new sets. No problem - and totally understandable! Rommel was very patient and thorough with his explanation of why and working with us to understand our project. We ended up purchasing four sets of shades for our primary bedroom to cover two large windows with a two-layer, motorized system of black-out and light-filtering cellular shades. Rommel's installation team (Rene and Martin) were amazing - super fast, diligent, and competent! They also moved the original set of cellular shades we had to our living room, which meant we didn't lose them after all! They also updated the cord pulls for the original set, which we appreciated. The motorized shades have been such a wonderful addition to our master bedroom! We love the total darkness it provides for sleeping in -- and the automatic scheduler to lower / raise the shades as well has proven very convenient. We are VERY pleased with this upgrade. Overall, JMK Shutters offers a comprehensive, customer-first experience. Their team is knowledgeable, competent, and on-time. We had shutters installed in July of 2018, so they're 5.5 years old. Probably the biggest…read moreregret/buyers remorse item we've ever bought. Our total was 16k. Some thoughts on the whole experience: Installers were messy. Styrofoam beads, pieces of packaging left in window sills. Not just a couple, almost every window. Lots of shutters were installed crooked. Claimed my windows were crooked...really? They adjusted some of them to be less crooked but they're still crooked. Shutters were left with sticky residue from packaging. Dirt marks from installers. None of which they cleaned off. Scratches and damage on slats of shutters and frame areas. A lot of the scratches looked like it was the fault of the installers, slicing open the packaging with a utility knife. They did offer to replace slats, showed up on one of the multiple visits to fix issues and they hadn't taken notes of what slat went with what window. I ended up going around myself and replacing slats. Just a low quality product. Scuffs and scrapes. Severe discoloration from the sun. See picture. I contacted them about this, told me I'd have to go thru the warranty. I have gotten absolutely nowhere with this. I mean what are they going to do? Replace everything. Just a poor quality product. Photo is from a west facing window, but all the shutters have this issue. Every. Single. One. Even windows that get minimal sun exposure, even the shutters that are on the front porch windows, north facing, have the discoloration. The discoloration is on every part of their product that gets sun exposure, shutters, slats, frame in the window. The blame for the discoloration lies 100% with their product. For cleaning all I've ever done was to vacuum them off, and wipe off with a damp cloth. No cleaners or anything. Someone needs to tell installers that less is more when it comes to caulk. The only positive thing I can say is the shutters do technically cover the window. I don't recommend this business or the product they sell. Extreme buyers remorse. One of their big selling point about these vinyl or pvc shutters is you don't have to paint them. I wish I could paint them. Business owners also requested I remove my original yelp review before they would come out to address the poor installation issues. I just cleaned them today, discoloration is just getting worse and worse, so posting a review.
