It is sure to have most anything that your home, lawn, property could need and then some. High-price items are locked up, as I was made aware there was some thefts happening during the floyd riots and post-pandemic. All the isles are spic'n'span and lunch hour is the time when some materials are rolled out on carts and restocked on shelves. On a few occasions I have needed some input with the lumber and garden departments and all the staff (old and new) were very helpful and kind - one woman even walked half the store to make sure I got my item! The one sticky point, is the return desk (3 stations) where, without any fail, late in the morning or late in PM; there's always a backed up line. Please get 1 extra person to assist at this crucial desk. Above average Lowe's. 5

I wandered down the central aisle looking both ways at every side aisle until I found what I wanted. I took it to the counter and both guys were counting money. Again, no "hello" or "did you find what you were looking for." I don't think they actually said anything to me the whole time. Small hardware stores need excellent customer service to compete with big box stores and the internet. This one experience was disappointing.

And, the employees are typically very friendly, very helpful, and very patient. Well, there is an exception to every rule and I found it at Phillips Hardware. I'd just moved to Delmar and had previously only gone to Lowes frequently as it is more convenient to my house. But, I went to Phillips wanting (and hoping for) good customer service and the ability to ask questions. I didn't get it. I needed some chain cut and some eye hooks for a ceiling rack I was hanging in my kitchen. The woman at the front counter was quite pleasant and called someone to help me -- perhaps the owner. A sullen uncommunicative man appeared and directed me to follow him. He seemed severely irritated to have to serve me and I was as polite as possible, treating him as if he was the customer. After cutting the chain, refusing to make eye contact he thrust the pieces at me. I asked where I might find eye hooks and, acting inconvenienced, he pointed to where they were; when I saw a small selection I asked if there might be others elsewhere and he snapped that that what was there was all that there were to be had. Clearly he doesn't like either serving customers or being asked questions. I immediately decided then I would refrain from further purchases at Phillips and after cashing out drove around Delmar to Glenmont to go to Lowes. There I actually did find very helpful sales personnel, and walked out with many purchases. What a severe disappointment Phillips proved to be; I actually prefer supporting independent businesses and will pay more for items in order to do so. I won't, however, put up with rudeness and bad customer service, which is why I will never return to Phillips. Btw, I found a wide array of eye hooks in Lowes, and they were among my purchases. I should have simply started there.

It was recommended to me by my carpenter that all materials be ordered from Curtis Lumber. In my mind, since I sent the architectural drawings and had lengthy phone conversations with Curtis Lumber, and then had a few conversations over phone and email, I would have a single delivery of everything I need. In reality, some of the lumber delivered was warped and unusable, some of the items were delayed due to covid, some of the items never came because they weren't on the quote, and I didn't catch it. If something had to be exchange/purchased, most items had to come from Ballston Spa location, since the Delmar location has limited stock. There were many trips to Ballston Spa, and many pickups/drop-offs by Curtis Lumber at my house. The reason for five stars is because unlike working with a large corporation, such as Lowes or Home Depot, they actually pick up the phone here when you call, and they're able to see your order history, and everyone is very understanding and patient, and they stand behind their products. I can certainly see why my carpenter will only buy materials from here.

After holding my brand-new Robomower for over nine weeks, not only was the repair service unsatisfactory, but my brand-new mower was returned to me visibly scraped and damaged--damage that clearly occurred while in their care (Husqvarna cloud showing how the Robomower was being handled). I am not convinced that the mower returned to me is the same new unit I dropped off for service. When I brought this to the manager's (Paul) attention, I was met with indifference and a refusal to take responsibility. I was told the only thing that could be done was to leave it so they can "better clean it up," which is entirely unacceptable given the extent of the damage and the fact that this was a new machine. To clarify, Paul very confidently, based on his years of experience, stated that this repair was not covered under warranty and that I needed to pay. The claim was never submitted by your store; Husqvarna technical support (Lee) had to contact you directly to ensure it was filed, and I have emails to confirm this. Once submitted, warranty coverage was never in question. Transparency in communication is very important to customers, myself included. This situation reflects extremely poor customer service and a troubling lack of accountability. As a paying customer, I expected professional handling of my equipment, prompt service, and respect. Instead, I received the opposite--poor workmanship, denial of damage, and no effort made to properly resolve the issue. I strongly encourage any customer considering this location to inspect their item thoroughly at both drop-off and pick-up, and to have staff document the item's condition in their presence. I can no longer support or trust this location with my business.
