Nobody wants to be referred for a diagnostic mammogram. This means you are having some type of…read moreproblem and, unlike a normal screening mammogram, you are starting from a place of being extremely scared. I live much closer to the Magee imaging location in Pleasant Hills, but the first available appointment I was offered was here at Passavant so of course I took it. The staff here knows you are having a rough day and treats you with absolute kindness and professionalism. Although I had filled out detailed paperwork in advance, the radiologist sat down with me to talk through it before doing my imaging to make sure she understood my problem and concerns fully. I did not feel remotely rushed. It was explained to me that if I needed any additional imaging to zero in on a problem, they would be doing it before I left, and everything would be read and explained to me then and there. This is exactly what you want and need in this situation. I was very fortunate to have a good result today and the radiologist took me into a private room so the doctor who read the imaging could talk with me. Again I did not feel rushed as we discussed the issue, my results and next steps. The doctor could see that I was very scared and emotional and held my hand while sharing the news, and gave me a hug as I left. I felt so compassionately cared for as a whole person, not just a patient. I'm sure these professionals are dealing with a wide variety of situations daily and I know from having my own family in the medical profession that this takes a toll over time. I appreciate them doing what they do in such a kind, thorough and professional manner.

Here, I had an appointment for my first-ever mammogram, and the two employees provided me with highly professional service. Upon my arrival at the main entrance to the hospital, I used my cell phone to call a phone number to check in with the registration desk. The registration employee kindly gave me directions for navigating through the hospital to her office. She then gave me a registration form to fill out. Within a few minutes, she walked me to another room to change out of my shirt and to put on a gown. (Make sure to wear a two-piece outfit and to not wear any powder, lotion, or deodorant.) The second employee performed the mammogram. She also had a very kind personality. I had no idea how to position my body in the mammogram machine. The mammogram felt physically painful, and initially I pulled my body away, but the employee very patiently repositioned me to ensure that the images turned out well. Tip: For me, leaning to the right or left and grabbing onto handles helped me to not pop out of the machine. A radiologist should read my mammogram images in 7-10 business days. The results will be sent to me both online and through the mail. Sometimes patients must return for additional testing if a "technical recall" occurs and additional views are needed. I hope that my first set of images are good enough that I do not have to return again until next year!

I was sent here back in 2013 after my doctor had a hard time finding a heartbeat on doppler. I had suffered miscarriages before, so I was prepared for what they would find. They told me to fill my bladder before the appointment, so I did. An hour later after my arrival after they had not called my name, I told reception that I really had to go as the water had drank had made sitting there for any longer unbearable. They told me it was okay to pee a little but to try to keep my bladder full. An hour and twenty minutes after my arrival, I was called back. I was greeted by a very young (maybe mid 20's) ultrasound tech who was there with a 'shadower', another equally young girl who I guess was in training. Both of these girls sucked. They started out doing a transvag ultrasound and it immediately became clear to me that something was wrong. I said something to the girl and she uncomfortably told me that she couldn't say anything to me and then glanced at the other girl. I felt like I was completely ignored for the next 20 minutes while she fiddled with the ultrasound. I finally asked her if something was wrong and she kind of shrugged. She also told me at some point that I had a tilted uterus (I don't. This has been confirmed by three separate doctors and ultrasound techs since then). I then told her to please get someone who COULD tell me something. She dissappeared with the other girl for ten minutes before a nice radiologist (male) came in and told me that they couldn't find a heartbeat. He said he would call my doctor. I figured that was the end of it. Like I said, I've been through these before, so I told him that and got up to leave. At which point, the girl told me that she 'had to take more pictures' and now to empty my bladder. I couldn't fathom why she had to do this, but whatever. Disgustingly, she left the ultrasound on while she left the room while she went somewhere (I don't know where, but probably to talk to the radiologist) thus forcing me sit in front of a picture of the dead fetus until she came back. Then she came back (alone this time) and did an abdominal ultrasound. I had been in there for about 1/2 hour at this point and just wanted to call my husband who was working. She again complained that she was having a hard time getting the photos due to my 'tilted uterus' (again, bullcrap - I have given birth, had countless ultrasounds and not ONE tech or doctor ever said I had a tilted uterus. I actually asked my maternal fetal medicine doctor about this a year later and she said that in no way did I have this condition). Another 10 minutes later, I was DONE. I told her to stop. She acted annoyed, but did tell me that she would be finished in a minute. She did finish and then pointed me to the bathroom where I could change. Before she left, after all this crap, she has the nerve to tell me to 'have a nice day'. Since then, I have refused to ever even look at this building again because of how I was treated - no compassion whatsoever and, I'm sorry....the other times this has happened (Alle-Kiski and West Penn), the tech immediately stopped what she was doing and told me straight up that she was having a hard time finding a heartbeat and went immediately to get a doctor. None of this shrugging and noncommital crap. Since 10% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, you would be better off finding a place in a hospital where docs and techs are specifically trained in compassionate care. This place was awful. I cannot even drive past it to this day without shuddering and this is an experience that occurred over a year ago at this point.

Thank You Thank You…read more Thank You to the Drs. and Nurses and the Entire Staff here that saved our son Michael Alexanders life this past month. The action that Michaels team took on the 18th of April with emergency surgery definitely saved his life. Quick thinking and skilled expertise is the Main reason he is still among the living. The Nurses in ICU when we would call for updates were so professional, always telling us the hard truth and reassuring us they were doing everything possible to get Michael up and out of the hospital Alive. Not easy getting the news from 3k miles away in San Diego however we knew that other than praying we could do very little to help our son if we were there in person. Drs., Nurses and Staff were the Miracle workers . Pancreatitis and Pneumonia aren't easy to overcome even with the Amazing Medical Teams here combined with our sons incredible will to live we got a Happy Ending. We can Never Thank You and you entire Team enough.!! I hope anyone that reads this will put their complete confidence into the folks that work here on a daily basis. God Bless You All, Mike Sirota San Diego, California

Went to the Emergency Room last night for diarrhea and vomiting. Was there for about 3 1/2 hours…read more Of that time about 25 minutes was actually spent with a nurse or doctor. The other 3 hours were spent waiting in a small exam room. I was running back and forth to the bathroom. They didn't hook me up to an I.V. Of saline solution for about 2 hour. The said I was lucky to get that because there was a shortage. I realize that there might have been sicker people than myself, but the experience was unacceptable. Over the years I have used UPMC Passavant ER a few times and the experience is always the same. From here on out I will use AHN Wexford & I suggest that you do too.
