I have broken my wrist, my leg, and my clavicle. I know pain well, but nothing is quite as debilitating as lower back pain. Nobody wants to be referred for a diagnostic mammogram. This means you are having some type of…read moreproblem and, unlike a normal screening mammogram, you are starting from a place of being extremely scared. I live much closer to the Magee imaging location in Pleasant Hills, but the first available appointment I was offered was here at Passavant so of course I took it. The staff here knows you are having a rough day and treats you with absolute kindness and professionalism. Although I had filled out detailed paperwork in advance, the radiologist sat down with me to talk through it before doing my imaging to make sure she understood my problem and concerns fully. I did not feel remotely rushed. It was explained to me that if I needed any additional imaging to zero in on a problem, they would be doing it before I left, and everything would be read and explained to me then and there. This is exactly what you want and need in this situation. I was very fortunate to have a good result today and the radiologist took me into a private room so the doctor who read the imaging could talk with me. Again I did not feel rushed as we discussed the issue, my results and next steps. The doctor could see that I was very scared and emotional and held my hand while sharing the news, and gave me a hug as I left. I felt so compassionately cared for as a whole person, not just a patient. I'm sure these professionals are dealing with a wide variety of situations daily and I know from having my own family in the medical profession that this takes a toll over time. I appreciate them doing what they do in such a kind, thorough and professional manner.

Here, I had an appointment for my first-ever mammogram, and the two employees provided me with highly professional service. Upon my arrival at the main entrance to the hospital, I used my cell phone to call a phone number to check in with the registration desk. The registration employee kindly gave me directions for navigating through the hospital to her office. She then gave me a registration form to fill out. Within a few minutes, she walked me to another room to change out of my shirt and to put on a gown. (Make sure to wear a two-piece outfit and to not wear any powder, lotion, or deodorant.) The second employee performed the mammogram. She also had a very kind personality. I had no idea how to position my body in the mammogram machine. The mammogram felt physically painful, and initially I pulled my body away, but the employee very patiently repositioned me to ensure that the images turned out well. Tip: For me, leaning to the right or left and grabbing onto handles helped me to not pop out of the machine. A radiologist should read my mammogram images in 7-10 business days. The results will be sent to me both online and through the mail. Sometimes patients must return for additional testing if a "technical recall" occurs and additional views are needed. I hope that my first set of images are good enough that I do not have to return again until next year!

This is my second time coming to Tri Rivers Musculoskeletal Cent. Originally I came to get my…read moreankle checked out, then after having an MRI I came back to go over my results, I would have to say I had a lot of mixed feelings about my first and second visit. All of the staff including the doctor were very nice and polite. It is very difficult to find parking in the morning, in the afternoon I didn't have as many problems. As a patient you pay a lot of money to see a specialist, get X-rays, and have MRI's and everything should run smoothly without a bump or any problems along the road. I recently went back to Tri Rivers Musculoskeletal Centers again, and how did scheduling seem to mess up on the scheduling of something as simple as scheduling an appointment, I took 6 hours off of work to come to another appointment before he do my surgery and here they said the doctor wasn't even there after I took money out of my pocket, and pto time from my banked time and I live over 30 minutes away that's ridiculous, if you can't even schedule a appointment correctly I don't know if I trust with my surgery. Update after the scheduling issues, they did apologize for the mix up and everything has ran a lot smoother than before. I feel confident in the healthcare team here at UPMC Passavant and Tri-Rivers Musculoskeletal Center along with my doctor that my upcoming surgery will go smoothly. The nurses and medical team reached out to me before my upcoming surgery to go over everything and gave me a chance to ask any questions I had, and also gave me their telephone number if I had any additional questions which really helped to put me at ease. Update, I had my ankle tendon transfer and foot surgery and I can't be happier enough that I chose UPMC Passavant McCandless. I had my surgery on Tuesday and anesthesia did a wonderful job with my nerve block and general anesthesia I can't remember a thing from the surgery I was out like a light, then I was admitted as a inpatient the nursing staff, doctors, physical therapy, and everyone has been great I need help getting up because my left foot and leg was numb from the surgery and I'm none weight barring for 6 weeks so I'm hopping with a walker and I was so thankful to have nurses and nurse assistants here with me to make sure I didn't fall. The food is good, you know sometimes when you go to the hospital you think here we go hospital food and it's going to be bland and lack any flavor, here it is the exact opposite. This hospital is very clean and new I love that your family can relax in recliners while they wait for you to be done with surgery and they have charge stations located throughout the waiting room. My family also got food from the cafe and said it was good as well, they also serve Starbucks coffee for those Starbucks lovers. I love that you get your own private room and the rooms are roomy, you have your own, tv, bathroom, recliner chair and night stand. If I could pick a hospital again it would be this one.

I had an appointment for 2:30 PM, and the receptionist called me at 1:30 PM to show up "right now." I hurried to the office. When I arrived, the physician was seeing one patient, and two other patients were waiting in the waiting room. Why did the receptionist tell me to come in early?! The doctor was ready to see me at 2:40 PM, and he examined me until 3:20 PM. He thoroughly explained how my eyes have thin retinas that I must monitor into old age to ensure that blood vessels do not grow and cause leakage and vision loss. He gave me an Amsler Grid on paper and on a convenient refrigerator magnet, so I can monitor my vision at home. The receptionist said that I had no copayment. I overheard her tell two other customers that they had to pay with either cash or check, because the office does not accept credit cards, so if you have a copayment, then you want to make sure that you bring sufficient cash or a check. Overall, I feel relieved that the physician examined my eyes and determined that my vision is OK for now.

He spoke only to his student that was shadowing him rather than looking or addressing my daughter directly. She suffers from back pain due to a genetic hyper-mobility disorder and was referred for proper strengthening techniques that would not cause additional harm. Not only was he arrogant, he told her that her disorder did not exist because ballet dancers are hyper mobile and don't have back problems and then suggested that she see a rheumatologist for a different diagnosis. Apparently he feels that he knows more than trained physicians in the genetics field. He was dismissive in every way and either uneducated or uninterested in finding out more information about her pain. It was an embarrassing and upsetting situation for my daughter and a waste of much time and money. Proceed with caution. Frustrating and shockingly disappointing experience.
