I have been going to this Wegmans since it opened. At first it was a novelty but then I grew to actually like the store for more than the usual "tourist attractions". They have great prices on family items like milk, kids snacks and boneless chicken breasts. Recently, as in the last year, I've been increasingly disappointed. I shop there every week. I spend between $150-$200. They are always not stocked. I've tried to get a refrigerated salad dressing for 2 weeks in a row. Both weeks they weren't stocked along with many other dressings. I get my son a blueberry muffin every week... this week there were none. No artichoke Asiago dip. No Woodbridge wine 2 weeks in a row. Plenty of employees in the aisles "stocking" but nothing on the shelves. The checkout lines also have problems. Lots of moms with kids in line and 3 lines open. Managers at the podium just standing there. Jump on a register. Get someone who is stocking shelves and yapping to ring. It's frustrating especially when you're on a schedule and this is the only time you can shop. I go there because it's a one stop for food, lunch, wine and other things. If I can't get everything why go? The only thing that is always stocked is the polar seltzer. And the guy is the friendliest one in the store. Wegmans do better! One of the most cleanest upscale markets you can ever go to. Probably beats Whole Foods as well with their endless selections of groceries, bakeries, seafood, wine/beer selection, and food! I wouldn't have noticed this place if it wasn't for my uncle who is a sushi chef here. He took us to experience where he worked and you'd probably wouldn't go here if you had stayed couped in downtown Boston the whole time. It's about a 45 min drive away from downtown Boston but I'm not sure if there are other locations as well. The market here just blows your mind how big of a place it is. Decor reminds you of a Pavillions but much bigger and much more selections. Great assortments and options to choose from. read more

It's a grocery store. People need to travel outside of the state more. The concept is mind bending for New England folk, but fairly pedestrian outside of New England. It's a large store that gives the illusion of choice and selection to the uneducated shopper, but you are actually looking at about the same selection as a walmart. I give great kudos to the amount of space devoted to sitting down and relaxing. Brings back memories of the French hyper mart Auchan, in that respect asThey have designed it to get you to stay as long as possible. Great seating area to enjoy a meal from their buffet or deli, even a small section for kids to set and play. Also,one of the few places in the metro west where you can purchase wine and groceries under one roof. read more

I was a Wegman's customer from 2006 until I moved to the West Coast in 2013. I love this store with a passion! I love it because they have prices lower than any other competitor in the regular grocery section, which gives you more to spend in the fresh foods section, where the prices are a bit higher; however, still a value for what you get. All of this, while somehow managing to give you great service, friendly employees, and a super clean and organized store. September 15th was my first visit to this particular Wegman's. It was a stop for some lunch and to pick up some bottled water on our way to visit Boston. This store lived up to my Wegman's expectations! My wife went to the Northborough location today. In the past this location has been great. Not this time. The store was dirty, there weren't enough cashiers. Nobody was friendly as in the past. Some things simply weren't in stock anymore or moved and couldn't be found. It was so bad she almost walked out. read more

Across the world, this has got to be the supermarket with the nicest employees. Everyone smiles at you, makes polite conversation and dare you look lost, someone is likely to approach you with a helpful suggestion. Wegmann's has an amazing sushi counter, which is open till close. Everything is under 10 bucks and stores well for 2 days. We tried tuna, shrimp, eel, avocado, california roll, octopus and many kinds of sushi, edamame and dim sums. Besides having a ton more options than Stop & Shop and regular grocery stores, they have an impressive self-service loose tea section. You open the steel boxes, take a whiff of the tea, if you like it, you scoop it up in a paper bag, type in the code on a weighing scale and print out the price tag. The good news i you can try exotic Japanese, Egyptian, Chinese, Indian teas for under $1, since you don't have to buy an entire pack and can buy 1 oz (28 grams) too. There's a ton of parking, oodles of happy, shiny employees keen to help you (if you need help) and great prices on bakery, fresh produce, dairy, food court (6 different cuisines) and everything you want from a grocery store and more. read more

Wegmans was a much needed addition to the Massachusetts economy and it was with much excitement that it opened just over a year ago. I was going to go early on but I heard horror stories about multi-mile long lines of cars trying to get in and decided to wait... and shortly after, after the initial buzz died down, it has been very pleasant. Sure, it's not exactly conveniently located for us folks living in the Boston area - it's approximately 45 minutes to get there and more with traffic but I've found it to be worth it for bi-monthly, big shopping trips. The store itself is big - much bigger than any Shaw's, WholeFoods or even a CostCo that I've been to. However the kicker here is that they emphasize shopping all in one place, so the store even has a giant wine, liqueur and craft beer section. Most of the prices are also very competitive also I've found an occasional flaw like on their Lagavulin scotch which goes for $5-$10 more than what I've seen in Boston. But that aside, on big grocery shopping trips, the drive out to Northborough could literally save you a lot of Grants ($50 dollar bills). Here's some of the highlights: - There's a section where you can create your own craft beer six pack by selecting individual bottles. The selection changes often based on what's seasonal. - They have a cafe where shoppers can take a break and eat very affordable, fresh food at a counter or they can go to the prepared food 'hall' and get whatever they want and eat it in a designated seating area. - The prepared food area features a sub shop, a pizza/wings stand and multiple buffets (Asian, Indian, Vegetarian, Dim Sum, Sushi, Comfort, BBQ, Cookies etc..) - They have a giant stand for meats, cheeses and for seafood - Pretty decent selection of gluten free items - Checkout lines - we've never had to wait in line.... ever. In most cases you'll be able to find just about anything you want and for whoever you want. Wegmans carries it's own brand of products which are also cheaper than the competition and much like Trader Joe's, the quality is there. One of our favorite things to get there is the pre-marinated meats (pork tenderloins, steaks and chicken breasts) which are outstanding. That aside, there's just a ton of stuff. I look forward to their second location opening up in Chestnut Hill at some point - hopefully very soon! It will halve the drive in half and will be another great boost to the local economy. read more

I've been a Wegman's guy since my days living in beautiful but cold Rochester, NY. Wegman's is da bomb, folks. All of us Nutmeggers can only hope and pray they open a store in CT as soon as possible. Wegman's has it over any of the choices we have in The 860™. There's a monster sized food court that one can get about any dish he or she might want. It's really amazing and includes a huge and comfy seating area, away from the store and in an enclosed location. One can also check out a pretty incredible bakery, a huge deli and fish market, lots of beautiful produce, and so much more. For my beautiful partner in crime, Wegman's has a fantastic and easily disseminated labeling system to allow those with food allergies to understand what can be eaten safely. It's really a fantastic place to shop for those with food allergies as the labeling system is unique to Wegman's...I don't know of a grocer in The 860™ that has it. Prices here seem to be a little more expensive that those at Market Basket (my personal fav). But I made my trip here today to pick up items that are simply not available anywhere in my local area. I loaded up my cart with a few things necessary for my home, as well as the things my pretty partner needed and off I went. I'll be back, out of necessity. But I do prefer MB and its prices...even with the 4% discount promotion ended. The 860™ needs some new blood when it comes to grocery stores. The only thing I would change about this Wegmans is location. Why can't you be across from my house? I'll be patient, though, and wait for you to open the Burlington location later on this year. I always start my Wegmans trips with a stop at the hot food area. Then from there I use the Wegmans app to go through my shopping list and but my groceries. After I've spent too much (because who can say no to Wegmans?) I still have room for fresh goods from the bakery, healthy fresh foods, and then a quick stop into the liquor store, because this is New England and there's a lot of need for that. The ONLY neutral thing I would mention about this Wegmans is that the front entrance gets really congested. I suppose that's good because it means business is booming and I'll be able to rely on Wegmans being in New England for years to come, but compared to the other Wegmans I've been to recently (John Glenn and Shoppingtown) it's hard to maneuver. Maybe it's because Massachusetts people are pushier with their carts than Upstate New Yorkers, but the other entrances just seem more open and tall. Not necessarily suggesting a return to the old style enclosed glass atrium entryways, but it feels like everyone has to fit through a small door on the way in and out. I'm really glad this Wegmans is here. I only wish there could be more Wegmans stores sooner. But I'll be patient, because I know it's worth it. [ And the old logotype. A beautiful state of the art, mega store with all the bells whistles- and the high prices to pay for it all. Yes the store is something you can be excited about. It has entertainment qualities- in house restaurants, open kitchens, cafes, and more. I thought the restaurant food was just ok- not worth the cost. The crowds- are irritating and you lose patience after a few minutes. A fun way to spend a few hours on a cold winter day, but I am sticking with my regular no frills Market Basket store. read more

After finally making my way here to check them out, I really don't get the love affair people have with Wegmans. Yes the store is huge and it's beautiful. The bathrooms are nicer then some restaraunts. There are plenty of food options if you want to sit down and enjoy a meal, a coffee bar, a huge bakery not to mention a large meat/deli department. Price wise, they are on the high side and judging by the flier I picked up, they don't run a lot of specials. That being said, I can now say I have visited here. read more

How could you NOT give this Wegmans five stars? If you do, you either have been to better Wegmans or perhaps you just can't appreciate an amazing grocery store experience. Holy crow. So glad I checked Yelp! before heading to this place, I knew just what to get and what to expect. Yes, the main entrance is a bit of a cluster, but you'll make it through. The smaller, two tier carts are easier to maneuver around, especially in the crowded produce area. For hot food, I have to give the subs two huge thumbs up, and the bakery totally scored with the fresh salt bagels and crazy good cheddar bacon bialys. Crazy good, seriously. There's lots going on in the shopping plaza around Wegmans too, you could probably make a day of it. Next time, I might - the sushi looked pretty good... read more

This is the third time I've come here WELL before closing time (IE: I'm writing this review as I stand in line at 10:15 PM...they close at midnight) and this is the situatuon. If I was a smart person I would have turned around and left there was only one register open and online that goes all the way past the pharmacy. But apparently I am a glutton for punishment so I continued shopping and I'm now standing in one of the two lines that are open. I understand not wanting to have a bunch of registers open when it gets later, but when you over TWENTY carts in line (yes, I counted as I'm standing here), perhaps you should either keep the self check out line open later or put more people on the registers and have less employees walking around. read more

My first visit to this store was the second weekend it was open, and it was a madhouse. So I hoped today's visit would be more representative of a typical Saturday at a Wegmans in Massachusetts... only I don't KNOW what's representative of a typical Saturday at a Wegmans in Massachusetts. I'm amazed at the number of people - myself included - who are willing to pay $8.49 for food at the salad and entree bars. This would be way overpriced for just the salad bar - though it is always fresh and well stocked - but more acceptable when you include the entrees, sides, and dessert. The Indian food rivals some at some Indian buffets I've visited. Everything is quite tasty, and there's rarely a poor-quality or out-of-stock item. The recipes for a lot of the products in their cafe can be found in their accompanying store magazine... which, as is the case for other stores like Hannaford, should be free with a certain amount of goods purchased. This is obviously not a store you visit for just a loaf of bread and some milk on your way home. It's intentionally designed to be an experience, probably combined with spending the better part of your wallet and the day in this big box arena. The inventory is huge and impressive, though occasionally I will NOT find something on my list, which I've later gotten at some Hannaford. Some items are really good deals, particularly many of their own brand items. But as with any other grocery store, some goods will be better bargains than others. If you can afford to visit multiple grocery stores, you can shop wisely here. If you can't, this is a decent one-stop shop. Since it's the first (and currently only) Wegmans in Massachusetts, it does have the 3-allowed-per-state liquor department. Okay, it's not a perfect store, so why 5 stars? Because it's still hands-down better than the competition, as well as consistently recognized as a good employer. read more

I've stopped by Wegmans for lunch in their "Market Cafe" a few times, so this is a review for that section of the store alone. The Market Cafe is like a mall food court that's actually got good food! There are lots of choices - burgers & fish cooked in front of you, sushi, pizza, salad & fruit bars, etc. There are also tables set up so those grabbing food can eat at the store. The seating areas have 2 sections - one for families, with some kids toys & kids shows playing on a TV, and a bigger section for everyone else, with CNN on a TV in the back. I've had sushi every time I've stopped here and really enjoyed it. I've also made fruit salads from their fruit bar (delicious!) & had some awesome roasted squash & zucchini from their salad bar. It's a good stop for me when I'm trying to get in a healthy lunch, but it would also please people looking for comfort food as well. read more

This store is out of my way but I do still come here frequently. This is a grocery store, liquor store, and full buffet restaurant in one. Their prices are not always that great if you aren't buying their brands. The fruit and vegetables are always fresh but usually on the pricier side. They have options to get all of your fruit and veggies chopped and cleaned for you - but way too expensive for that option in my opinion ( I know for some the convenience is worth it). I usually come here when I need fresh seafood, sushi and almond butter... never do I end up leaving with only those things. Their food buffet is stocked well and always has some really good choices. They have a lot more options than my regular store for organic and gluten free options. Their organic deli meat is worth the price. read more

Was a 5 star the first year or so, since then the selection has gone to shit many items are doubled in several isle and a lot of the ethnic or exotic items that made it a destination are no longer available. There seem to be many other changes and all in all its not worth the price or dealing with bitchy soccer moms who are oblivious to the others around them. Amazing! Lots of good foods, lots of good prices. Really convenient for the the typical family. The selection is enormous. From Irish butter to birthday cards to truffles ($1,000 per pound) to pure MSG, they have it. And in multiple brands of the product. You name it, they have it. ...and at a unbeatable price. Most Wegmans products are at least 20¢ less than other stores, like Price Chopper or Stop & Shop. In the end, you could save 10-15% on your shopping bill. Wegmans even posts comparison charts around their store to remind you of their fabulous prices. The prepared foods sold by Wegmans are one of a kind. Whether it be the bakery, coffee shop (called "The Buzz: Everyone is Talking About it!"), sushi bar, pizza shop, or Mediterranean bar, they have it. And it tastes doggone good. The even let you eat the food while shopping and pay later. Overall, Wegmans is the best supermarket for anyone within 15 miles. So good that the flagship in Rochester is practically a tourist attraction (I've been there!). I highly recommend Wegmans to any shopper. read more

I have been living in Northboro for more than half of my lifetime where I built a strong family value with other neighbors . Today I went shopping in Wegmans, and there was an old man whom was working for Wegmans and kinda yelling to me stating that I must stay 6' feet away other other people while I was waiting at a cash register. But he was a bout 2 feet away from me ! I was about 8-10' away and 100% be aware of this new rule of a social distancing to protect me first of all, to protect my family and other people in community. What a ugly incident that I faced in my wonderful town as Asian- American! Racist is always there and I won't expect that will be disappeared in a second ! But I never expect that happened in my wonderful town. I won't let this stupid old man ruined my town ! And perhaps he might not live here ! This is a great addition to Northborough. I frequent here a lot and if you go early in the day it is much more manageable. The cafe can be hit or miss with the hot foods as they dry out very fast. The Chinese food station is very good if you catch it fresh. The deli sandwiches and combo meal is a great deal and the salad bar is fresh and very good. The produce section is an awful maze of haphazard displays and create grid lock with carts. The cheese shop is excellent and I love their cheese sampler board. It took awhile to find where things are, but after a few visits, I have it sorted out...for most things. Lots of checkout lines make for a faster check out. read more

Aside from the rotting produce, constantly moving departments around in the store so you can never find anything, low inventory and overpriced meat and seafood, the lack of customer service has finally broken the camel's back. The lines are miles long. If you can't hire a cashier, then open up more self check out lines. Tonight, "Nick" the sniveling front of house worker actually kicked me out of a line I had been in for close to 15 minutes, saying I wasn't there when he closed the register line. Admittedly, I did leave my cart for a second to check on another item in cosmetics that has been out of stock for a while, but I was there. It took me 25 minutes to check out tonight. I can't say I like the location but I can say I am a huge fan of Wegmans. I will admit it isn't the place to buy your groceries if you are looking to do so on the cheap but they have high quality selections and a prepared food section that can't be beat. During my last visit I got a prepared dinner since it was late and I was hungry. I ordered the Chicken French with the Mac & Cheese and Seasoned Green Beans but they had many options from chicken & pulled pork to salmon and lamb chops. They were very generous with the portions and for $6 I think its a bargain. To top it off it was delicious. Their store branded items are just as good if not better then many of the big name options and they have plenty of those hard to find items such as specialty cheeses and better cuts of meat. This store has everything, including an extensive hot and cold buffet area for take out. I work nearby so this is a dangerous place. The wegmans brand stuff is pretty cheap, similar to Aldi. For most things anyway. Their wine and beer section is great and reasonably priced. The only reason I wouldn't give it a 5 is while their bakery selection is impressive, you will get your daily dose of chemicals in all the prepackaged items. Good bakers don't bake like that so there is better quality elsewhere. I have to say that their cakes and frosting taste very good still. The dougnuts and cookies are also good. read more

I'll probably have to dodge a few tomatoes after posting this review. At least they'll be cheaper than snatching a sack from Weggies. Getting past the shock and awe of the world-famous Wegmans coming to our fair state, we need to take an honest look at the grocery store as a grocery store. Sure it gets points for the one stop convenience of an in-house wine/beer/booze barn, a food court with numerous cafeteria grade choices and a pharmacy to refill The Pill cuz ooooh child, those mini crumb apple pies are SEXAY! Yes, it's big. So's the viewership of American Idol. Big does not mean impressive. The prices aren't much different that Stop & Shop or Shaw's and for 98% of you reading this review, I can promise either of those are closer. Some of their prepared foods score points (beef wellington, aforementioned pies) while others just seem outrageously average ($9 for a practically bare flatbread that you have to bake at home). There are a few solid deals, but none worth driving for and compared to other Wegmanseses, this location is fairly sterile. It was fun for the experience, and we found a new hard cider, made fresh ground peanut butter and sampled a George-Foremanized cupcake with smiles on our faces. But while it's still in the initial fad phase of the now-barren Sonic, folks living within 5 miles of Boston have little reason to travel back. Still love the team, but this player came over-hyped and now we're paying the salary. read more

Count us in the "I don't get it" club when it comes to Wegman's. There are some things that we love -- like the bakery with its Marathon & 7 Grain Breads and Club Pack Chicken. But here are our beefs (no pun)... The store is leviathan and not easy to navigate. It's not intuitive and has horrible flow, feng shui and is a veritable magnet for shopping cart collisions amongst this location's harried and inconsiderate shoppers. Prices. If you don't buy on sale, many regular prices on name brands are not competitive (saying this kindly). Finally, the food court... We keep on trying, but are not finding anything of particular quality or taste. As a matter of fact, we're concluding that it's reminding us more of a high school cafeteria -- just with more variety. To date, after many visits specifically for their bakery, Club Pack poultry and sale produce, we're finding that the Wegman's Northborough shopping experience is more of a drain than an exhilaration and wish it were different. While there are things I love about Wegmans, there are equally as many things I could do without. Let's start with the good points. Loose leaf tea - There is a small, but adequate selection at this location. The non-loose teas are also fine, but nothing special. Convenience - It's about a half mile from my in-laws, so I can always make a quick run down there if I need anything while I'm in town. Hot Food - There is a lot of hot food to choose from, although the prices would stand to be better. For $10 per pound in some sections I might as well make my own mac and cheese. Ambiance - There was no horrifically oppressive lighting, like at Stop and Shop. Many of the walls and fixtures were deeper colors and the lighting was not bright white fluorescent. And onto the bad. Deli counter - I don't usually buy anything from the deli counter, as I don't eat meat, but everything here was clearly pre-sliced and gross looking. Layout - The layout of this Wegmans is similar to others I've been to so I did not get lost. This is not to say that the layout isn't absurd. I hate that the organic stuff is miles away from comparable non-organic products, making it difficult to do any sort of comparison. Also, many things are located in several different spots throughout the store (cheese, ice cream, soup). This also makes for a traffic flow problem as there are constantly tons of people wandering around bumping into everyone else. Fresh Produce - There just wasn't very much of it. Prices - While there are a few things I noticed as being cheaper at Wegmans, those things were mostly junk foods like soda, chips and string cheese. Healthier options are priced higher or the same as stores like Whole Foods. Wegmans Brand Food - I was torn about whether or not to put this down but from my experience Wegmans brand food just isn't that great. Example: I usually buy Red Baron frozen pizza but I bought a Wegmans brand mozzarella and pesto pizza instead (it was $1 cheaper) - the pizza itself was fine, not better than Red Baron, but my real issue was that there was literally less than 1 tablespoon of pesto on the whole pizza. This to me indicates that Wegmans does not actually put any effort or expense into the production of their products. Like a lot of other reviewers have said the majority of their "selection" is of their own brand. Also, the prices are not exceptionally competitive with other chain grocery stores. The iPhone app is only ok, and does not actually improve my shopping experience any more than a written list or other shopping list app would. The recipe section of the app is pathetic, with only 3 vegetarian recipes (2 of which are "tofu with vegetables"). Also, another reviewer said that this Wegmans is the "best grocer in suburban Boston". First off, Northborough is not a suburb of Boston, it's a suburb of Worcester. Boston is almost an hour away. Second, this is in no way the "best grocer" in the Northborough area. There is a BJ's and Stop and Shop in the area, both are better than / comparable to this Wegmans. read more

When it comes to elite grocers, Wegmans even has Whole Foods beat! If the prices at Wegmans were a little more competitive, I would have no issue giving this organization 5 stars. For those of us who work hourly - like myself , this is really not in the price bracket to be your "everyday grocer" its just not economically feasible by comparison to market basket. What makes Wegmans different, is the layers of convenience you get. I'm sure their marketing dept. wanted to keep those dollars you spend at the drugstore, liquor store, kitchen store, discount markets, specialty food store, ethnic food stores and bakeries. I'd say they have just about mastered it, and giving Massachusetts a taste with only 2 store statewide, I'm sure there will be several more of these flying up in the next 10 years,. It can be fairly said that the quality/variety of different meats, cheese, produce, and herbs gives them the edge. Your price almost always matches the quality of food. I could seriously talk about cheese for days, but it can be all explained at the cheese counter here.. my goodness the selection is out of control. Whats also nice about wegmans, just about every department has the most helpful people that will assist you with anything as simple as roasting your first turkey, or building a catered charcuterie plate for impressive entertaining. They do a good job with incorporating the promotion of their wine/liquor store by placing complimentary wines by the product displays. Oh my goodness does that tactic ever work on me! If you have all day you can browse the beer collection, ... warning it is overwhelmingly large. I have yet to be disappointing by the grocery sommolier ( if you are reading this, I mean that with all seriousness!) Nice, large amounts of fresh herbs available - totally key for solid meal and they know that! Lots of interesting finds in the seasonal section. .. though you wont save much money versus say like Christmas tree shop or someplace similar. Good amount of makeup, hair products and they do actually have a nice salt scrub/soap station where you can make your own to take home. Same can be said of tea. They sell a lot of nice loose leaf teas and whole bean coffee. SO MANY DIFFERENT SODAS. and every kind of water! The hot food/take out area is convenient, but really in all honesty, for the time it takes, the crowds, rush, waiting for refills then the steep price per lb. at all of the delicious kinds of food bars, really just isn't worth it. I have however walked in and ordered 2 pizzas to go while i did my shopping and they were the most magnificent thing to come home with, and not have to cook. So much better than a cheapo pizza shop . So no I don't stop in here all the time and maybe my review would be slightly different if so. Wegmania has hit Massachusetts at full force. Imagine a grocery store with the specialty gourmet goods of Whole Foods, the exceptional store branded line of Trader Joe's, the competitive pricing and national brand availability of WalMart and the quality service of a small specialty shop. Now tack a food court onto one end of it, with a great burger bar, awesome sub shop and a sushi bar that puts out restaurant-worthy stuff. And then on the other end tack on a liquor store. Not a rinky dink liquor store, but one with a truly epic selection of beer, wine and spirits. The vodka isle alone offers quite literally hundreds of small-batch selections, all priced like we somehow magically went to New Hampshire. Wegman's, I know you're consumer-savvy enough to be reading these reviews; please, for the love of god, let me live in your stock room. We only shop for meats, cheeses and produce, otherwise Wegman's might be affordable. Boxed aisle items seemed pretty comparable and the "make your own" bars for granola, nuts and peanut butter were great. The meats, produce and pre-packaged veggies and fruit are expensive, when we all know those pre-packaged ones are the fruits & veggies that are going bad (just look at them!) You go for the "experience" I guess, of a large store, wine tastings, cheese tastings, cake tastings, etc. but all I got was a traffic jam in every aisle and no chance of ever getting a "tasting" without elbowing my way in. Overall, I get why people like it, but it's hard to love a place that just cost you $250 for six bags / a half a cart of groceries. read more

So, I know what you're asking. I know why you're here. You've read the stories, you've heard the hype, you've watched the news. And now you're sitting there asking yourself - asking us, really - "C'mon, is it really that good??" Well, let me tell you this. At 6:59 on Sunday morning, I was asking the same question; I had never been to a Wegmans before. Right now it's 8:54 on Friday evening. And I've been there four times. So yes. Yes, it IS that good. My wife thinks I'm crazy to be so excited about a grocery store. But it's like compounding interest. I get excited about how awesome Wegmans is. Then I get even more excited, because - HOLY CRAP, I'm excited about a GROCERY STORE. And 'round and 'round we go. Until I'm at Wegmans 4 times in 6 days. read more

Was driving down the Mass Pike on Thanksgiving weekend and had to stop at Wegmans. I haven't been to one in years and I was not disappointed. We had dinner at the Market Cafe and ate at the 'bar'. There is so much to choose from that it's like a restaurant with the world's biggest menu. Pizza, sushi, burgers, salads, ethnic foods you name it. Quality was very good and there are many places to eat (in addition to the main area there are at least 4 or 5 dining rooms one with a kids play area, one with a big screen TV). People were friendly and helpful. After dinner we did our weekly grocery shopping. This place is huge and can be intimidating especially to a newbie. First stop was the bakery. Clearly the best bakery I've seen in a grocery store, including Whole Foods. The rest of the store is more like a conventional grocery store, only bigger & better. There is a good size liquor store attached but I didn't spend much time there. Overall this place is a little hard to describe. Down here in Connecticut we have Stew Leonards, Whole Foods, Trader Joes and a whole host of more conventional grocery stores (Stop & Shop, Shop Rite, Price Chopper, etc.). Wegmans is none of those places. It's a combination of those places. Others have complained its not Whole Foods and in terms of pure organic products it's not. It originated as more of a conventional grocery store and it turns out they did it so well that it can now be compared to the upscale grocers. The Market Cafe is better than WF and pretty much any other grocery store. If you want organic toilet paper WF is a better option. I love Stew Leonards and TJ's but Wegmans blows both of them away easily. The thing I can't comment on is the quality of Wegmans brand products. I know if I buys something with Stew's name on it, it will probably be better than the national brand everyone buys. I don't get it. I don't get the fawning over Wegmans. I've shopped there 3 times thinking "ok, it must be me". Now I've decided no, it's not me ... Good points: if you down load the iPhone ap, and do your shopping list on line and sync the two, it will popluate with asiles where items are located. This is great because it's a confusing as all get out layout. Full liquor store on premises. I've used the coupons they sent to donate to my food bank. They don't sell cigarettes. Canning supplies. Yeah! Bad points: Haplessly disorganized. It's like little box sections. All the organic is together. Even with the ap, i've had to crisscross the store several times. I'm not sure why people keep raving about the produce selection(s). I found them quite lacking. A recent Saturday I went in about 9 am and they had less than 20 avocaddos. They were brown and sad looking: like christmas trees on 12/26. Some prices are great, some are way off. It's an ok place to shop the loss leaders. Example: the Bisquick GF mix was $1.25 higher than SS and Hanaford. The local produce is apples, onions and potatoes. No kale, no leeks, etc. If you aren't there early or late, check out is a nightmare. The various bars aren't up and going before 9. Makes it hard if you want to get things for lunch and then move on but that's a minor detail. The no pictures signs are annoying. it's a grocery store: not the Louvre. I might go back: but i think it's one of those places that if you are FROM a Wegman's area, you are happy to have a comfort creature from home. If your not ... well, the chaos is overwhelming.
