Went in yesterday to see if they had hanger steak. While I was waiting, I asked the older man behind the counter if they carried Irish sausages and laughed and asked if I meant Chinese sausages. My sister thought he made a joke (clearly not a good one), but he asked another person if they sold Chinese sausages. I said I'm looking for Irish sausages. My husband said he bought it there before I couldn't find it, but I ended up seeing in the fridge off to the side of the deli counter. I'm never going there again. Everyone seems friendly, but the comment made me feel very uncomfortable to ever go there again. read more

They are the best! We used Lowe's for my son's Jack & Jill shower and everything was delicious. We purchased the cheese platter, veggie platter, fruit platter, garden salad, potato salad, macaroni salad, and 2 dozen burgers. There was plenty of everything and it was all delicious! They provided croutons, salad dressing, crackers, and anything else I might have overlooked :-). Other than grilling the burgers - I didn't have to do much. And dealing with Laura in catering was super easy! She is so nice and the platters were table ready and looked beautiful. It allowed me to focus on socializing with our guests and made the day so much more enjoyable. Highly recommend!! read more

I only discovered this little market a few months ago. It's packed with stuff but the real appeal is the butcher shop. They have what you're looking for, or if they don't they'll order it for you. The quality is excellent and the prices are very fair. The atmosphere is warm and homey and familial: townies dropping in and shooting the breeze with the workers, friendly faces asking if you've been helped, and lots of elderly customers who've probably been coming here forever. Love this place. Great meat selection and they can order special things if you want too. We love the baked clams and their meats have all been great. They are well stocked. You could probably do almost all of your shopping here and their prepared meals are really good. We've tried the stuffed cabbage and meatballs so far. Delicious. Staff is friendly. This is a wonderful family owned shop! They have a great butcher counter with high quality, reasonably priced meats and also a few choices for fresh seafood. They have a deli counter, a small produce section, some bakery items and your basic pantry essentials. Sometimes small shops like this one can be outrageously expensive - this one is not! This review concerns service. I can't speak for taste because I did not actually eat what I purchased. A colleague of mine who lives in Northborough was ill, and I thought she might feel better with some chicken soup. I live/work in Boston, so I could not deliver the soup myself. I phoned Lowe's and explained the situation to them. One of the employees said she was running to the bank and she graciously offered to drop off the soup on the way. Lowes has got to be the best meat and variety store I have ever been to. We used to invite the neighbors over for barbeques but apparently they could tell the meat was from Stop and Shop because they told us the best place EVER to get meat was Lowes Variety and THEY WERE RIGHT! Weekdays Lowes has nightly cooked meals (not sure about the weekends) and Fresh FISH delivery once a week (I think its Thursdays). I've had their cod, it was REALLY FRESH! Yesterday my son had the FRESHEST, MOST TENDER, and DELICIOUS filet mignon ever - even compared to fancy restaurants! I usually cook just for him when home and I eat total raisin bran most of the time so my son was mad that I ate some of this delicious filet mignon but I couldn't resist! You could SEE how fresh it was when it was cooking. I was hypnotised by it's freshness and then next thing you know, I was eating a piece. I couldn't help myself ... YUP - Lowes Meat is THAT GOOD! Lowes will cut your meat to order if you give advanced notice (they are REALLY BUSY HERE, but the lines go fast - they are that good with service too!). Another warm and wonderful thing about Lowes Variety is their community involvement ... church event ... oops, you're likely to bump into Vicky (Love Vicky's chicken too, Mmmmmm) ... School event, there's Tom, Vicky, and the rest of the family ... They're EVERYWHERE! Great people! I think I saw some award(s) for their community involvement and CRAZY TOM (he's not really crazy but I think a cold water winter excursion is a bit off the map), jumped in the freezing Ocean for a good cause ... The Best Meat Shop in the region. The quality is tops. They grind their own hamburger. They offer the ability to order fresh Thanksgiving turkeys. Their prepared foods are delicious. With Boars Head meats as well as store-made cuts, they have it all. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. They are truly helpful. Old fashioned, down-to-earth helpfulness coupled with quality. Tops in my book. The fresh rolls go fast on Sunday mornings, so get there early. You'll go out of your way to go there. And you won't be disappointed. read more

Great meat store. As much as we love Wegman's my wife only buys meat at Lowes. The pre-marinated pork and steak tips are tops.

This is a small, old time deli/meat market, the kind your parents shopped in before supermarkets were on every corner. The real draw is in the back of the store, where you'll find an old fashioned deli/meat case, the left side stocked with the usual selection of Boar's head products as well as some unique local offerings, and on the right, beautful and enticing selections of hand cut meat products, including some nice rolled roasts and the like. On the far left you can find a case with some cryovacced marinated meat products that are easy to throw into your freezer to pull out whenever needed for the grill. They also carry a limited number of fresh fish options and the usual corner store grocery options. We'll be buying our meats here whenever we make a trek up to Northborough to visit Wegmans. read more

A 5 Star rating is a under rating. I have been buying meats from Tommy for a while. I got a roast from him and it was by far the best I have had. I have prepared this type of roast before ( purchased somewhere else) but never has it been so tender and tasty. My guests kept commenting on how good it was. read more

As described by most, this is the store you remember growing up. When compare to Whole Foods and Wegmans the prices are reasonable. Service is fantastic. The meat counter is helpful in making suggestions and will give you what you need all you have to do is ask. I adore Lowes! It is right near my work and so convenient to grab a quick lunch that doesn't make me feel overstuffed and disgusting after I eat it. I am a huge fan of the wraps. The roast beef and Italian are my favorites. They are the perfect portion size for me. The market has everything a little local market should have. The homemade soups are amazing. If you happen to see the corn chowder, I highly recommend you pick it up because I rarely see it there and its excellent! Right by the register they have dark chocolate covered Oreos from Colonial Candies. Get one. Its delightful. This is really one of my go to spots to grab something quick before I head back to work. They also offer a lot of locally grown produce and grocery items from nearby vendors. I found this hidden gem thanks to a former coworker, and I'm glad she brought me there! Loved Lowe's but can't go there any more because they have a peanut roaster...my grand daughter has a severe peanut allergy and die fro Anaphalatic shock in 3 minutes after exposure to peanut dust or peanuts roasting in the ir..We do not want any traces on us to contaminate her ...there are several children and adults with this life threatening allergy.... read more

Great meats and special items. Just too bad that the staff look at everyone like you are going to steal them blind, never see a smile, perhaps they have never seen a gay couple shop before. We do tend to spend more than most, so you would think we would be welcomed in with open arms, but nay nay. They hardly make eye contact, staff would be advised to stop the smirks when 2 men walk in to purchase items and start to accept us as paying customers and be more welcoming in general to all customers. read more

The prepared food here is very good. I work close by and often grab a sandwich or entree to heat up at work. It opens really early, so days that I actually make it in early, I can still stop in and grab a quick bite. Yesterday I tried the Italian sub for the first time, and it was great. The bread very fresh, and the meat well balanced with the vegetables. It was really enough for two meals for only 4.99. It's my new favorite there! The chilis are really good too- plenty of spice but some sweetness as well to cut the heat. Lowe's makes feeding my family dinner on the run way easier! read more

Have live near the Northborough area and have an office in town. We have enjoyed Lowes since our move to MA-almost 20 years. The meat and produce are super, the stafff friendly and accommodating. My office staff enjoy the sandwiches, salads and chillies-always make on site that AM and yummy! All of the meat and poultry for my family events have to be from Lowes! We love to buy local and when that is so easy and so very good, it's a win-win.!!! read more
