While my shopping experiences with Wegmans have been slim to none, I've known of the brand for many years. I went to college in Upstate New York and many of my classmates used to tout it as the ultimate grocery shopping experience. I was initially skeptical, especially since specialty grocers like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods have been in the NYC area for years. Of course when I heard that this location in BK was opening I needed to check it out for myself, so as soon as I heard this location had opened I made plans to visit - and, you know, pick up some groceries. This long anticipated Wegmans is located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. While it's kind of out of the way of most places and not the easiest place to get to via public transportation, driving there is relatively easy. They have a private lot with free parking, plus there's overflow parking in a municipal garage that they'll validate. The store is very clean - everything was super organized and there were staff everywhere. Like many expanded grocers, there are specialty food sections as well as a number of different types of take-out foods to choose from in addition to traditional groceries. I was particularly impressed with their cheese section - I always like having snack-sized cheeses in my apartment and was happy to see a lot of different kinds in stock. Checkout was super quick, and overall I was impressed with my first real Wegmans visit. They have a number of organic and natural products, plus a huge variety of brands to choose from - two things I look for in a grocery store. If the new location opening this June in Westchester is anything like this one, Wegmans will definitely be added to my rotation of go-tos. read more

Decent. Wegmans is not my local grocery store but I did make a trip out to this newer location to see what it was all about. I noticed with certain isles the selection was abundant but with others there were lots of empty spots on the shelves for items I needed. Despite the size of the place I left without getting everything on my list which made coming here sort of pointless. Knowing what's available in the area as far as shopping Id probably go to Whole Foods before I come back to wegmans. Definitely not like the other wegmans locations. read more

Every positive thing you have ever heard. Every positive thing you have read. IT'S ALL TRUE about Wegmans and then some. For the city dwellers who had been out in the suburbs and were lucky enough to have shopped at a Wegmans before, the opening of a Wegmans in a metro area was beyond a dream come true - like someone just built a Disney World in our backyard ... OK, maybe this didn't bring quite that much joy, but a Wegmans in Brooklyn? Sayyyyy whatttttt? The supermarket Gods must love all of us. If anyone has been to a Wegmans before, then this Wegmans does feel smaller and a bit more urban than your traditional Wegmans. However, what wasn't different was the well-lit layout, the cleanliness of the floors, the immaculately organized items, the spaciousness throughout and the plethora of self-checkout kiosks - it's something we don't see everyday in cities like ours, but we can sureeee get used to it. The seafood that is laid out looks right out of the water, the bakery's fresh bread sit waiting to be claimed, the freshly baked cookies call your name and the fruit and vegetables in the produce section look like a work of art. Besides the fun times you can have pushing your mini-carts around the pristine food aisles, there's the Wegmans cafeteria. Once again, it's a smaller version than what some might be accustomed to, but beggars can't be choosers. In fact, the cafeteria greets customers the moment they step in. Buffet stations are placed everywhere so you can't walk past it without second guessing your diet. There's also a pizza bar with an assortment of delicious whole pies and gynormous slices to select from ... and might I add that the slices are a reasonable $3.50 a special slice. If you do decide to dine at Wegmans, there is also a large seating area that overlooks the 1st floor that lets customers appreciate the beauty of it all. If anyone decides to drive to Wegmans, there is a large parking lot that customers can park for free at, HOWEVER we did notice a sign in the customer service area that led us to believe parking wasn't going to be free forever .... womp womp. However you look at Wegmans, whether you feel it's a full commercialization of quieter neighborhoods or you see it as a much needed addition to bringing in more business, at the end of the day, it's just a SUPERMARKET, albeit a very popular one that came with a bunch of hype, but who doesn't like options?! Super excited to see my favorite supermarket from upstate New York in Brooklyn! As expected from Wegmans, they had a spacious location and it was clean and easy to navigate. I missed their bakery so much - love their bagels and fruit tarts! The staff are all very knowledgeable and friendly, and the selection is fantastic. They have a nice selection of everything - but I was very impressed with their selection of seafood. Prices are on the higher end but the food is very fresh. read more

This city girl felt plucked out of the urban sprawl of Brooklyn and plopped right into the middle of the stuff of suburban supermarket dreams. Wide aisles, tidy, well stocked shelves, and an overwhelming variety of just about everything you'd expect at a supermarket. I waltzed right in early on a Thursday morning and the usual crowds I heard about forming here were nowhere to be seen. Smiling store employees greeted me as I scanned the enormous, sparkling aisles with wide eyes and my mouth agape. Prices are low, produce is fresh, and they have everything! Cue angelic choir sound effect. Just their section dedicated to cheese is worth marveling at. They have their own cheese caves that they age cheese in! It's incredible. They even sell "meat" from Impossible Foods. Climate conscious meat consumers, rejoice! I wish I had a car because it's kind of a pain to get to and cumbersome to lug all my wonderful supermarket finds onto the subway. Might just move into the neighborhood to be closer to the paradise that is Wegmans. read more

I feel like all my dreams came true yesterday. I've been hearing from my Rochester friends about Wegmans for literally YEARS, and I've been counting down the days until it opened in Brooklyn. The worst part about yesterday was the pouring rain. Everyone who showed face at Wegmans was a true supporter to make it there in that storm. It was extremely busy, crowded, and just wild. I couldn't imagine how much more crowded it would have been if the weather was beautiful. Another quick word about the crowd.... I thought Wegmans could not have done a more efficient job of crowd control. They must've had at least 500 people on staff yesterday. You could tell many many of the staff came from other Wegmans locations. People were working double time to make sure all of the shelves were stocked and nothing went missing or out of stock that I could see. I have no idea how many visitors they had yesterday, but to be able to maintain such high-quality customer service despite the insanity was extremely impressive. Wegmans has a bar. I really think every grocery store needs a bar. Yesterday I learned all I need is a glass of Ruffino pre shopping to fulfill my grocery dreams. The bar itself is super cozy, moderately priced, and they have some small bites you can purchase. Interestingly, it's also a non-tipping bar. So when you pay, you pay for the drinks, tax, and there's no area to write tip. I asked them about this, and they said they wanted to make it like a regular grocery experience. I'm into it. I won't go on and on about the superior quality of Wegmans. We've all heard it's great. But here are some standouts for me... The seafood. Not only is the seafood displayed beautifully, but the price point is amazing. They were even doing a scallop demonstration where they were handing out scallop samples (I bought them and they were delish). The cheese. Surprisingly, Wegmans has their own cheese caves. Meaning, Wegmans buys pre aged cheese and ages it in their private caves for our pleasure. This is pretty cool. I'm not sure if there's any other grocery store that has their own cheese caves. The produce. I'm often displeased with the produce section at New York grocery stores. But Wegmans was very impressive. Everything was fresh, there was a wide selection, and the price point was great. Truthfully, if Wegmans was as crowded as it was yesterday... I'd have have a hard time making it my go to grocery store. But, I have a good feeling the crowds will die down and things will normalize. I'm looking forward to my next trip! read more

If your looking for ready to eat meals, Wegmans is the place to go. I was extremely pleased with the large selections they have. I actually went to take a look and grab one or two things, I actually ended up with a very large grocery bill. It is a really crowded place for shopping. Not enough wiggle room, that may depend on the day and time. For a weekend they were packed!! They have plenty of parking which is a plus. Prices vary depending on what you get. I have never been to a Wegmans until yesterday, I was getting off a cruise at the Brooklyn cruise port and knew Wegmans had a grand opening a few days back. You have to understand first I'm the guy that if I have time on vacation to check out a supermarket or small food store I'm there whether in USA or Europe. (I like to check out the local items and produce) Wegmans is everything it's said to be and more. Selection is by far the best I've seen anywhere. Amazing quality of produce, meats, fish, and bakery. Simply stunning, amazing. The Disneyland of supermarkets. Worthy of a wedding. I came at 5a on opening day from 30m away after driving 65mi/2w to their Bridgewater location for 6y. The best supermarket, bar, grocer, retailer, restaurant, pizza place, sushi bar, convenience store, everything in the area. Wegmans is life. It makes life, retailing, grocers, city living, life, the city all better. Even NYCers are humanly happier to be here which is a feat. Many literary magazines wrote about the Wegmans experience. I'm scared to write something that can compare and properly convey the depths of my love of Wegmans. I'd have to give you my autobiography to show why I love them so. It's the labelling (they labelled gluten 30y ago, decades before all others cared or knew), the immense customer service (employees are HAPPY with 214 of 540 from the city housing across the street and trained for 6mos), the parking (770 spots! 90m free with $15 receipt), the prepared foods (NYC sensitivity to convenience, speed, at scales far beyond any other location and I've visited 12+ others), the same private label trustworthiness, the European style displays, the shared love with Wegmaniacs, the care and affection of the company in everything they do, the beautiful spaciousness they left so the customer could stay sane, etc. It's beautiful, it's life, come have a better one with Wegmans. read more

Awesome! The King of all supermarkets has finally arrived in our beloved city. Newly located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. This place is big and has the look and feel of a European open air market. Everything looks so fresh. Wegmans has their own brand items are high quality and most are organic or contain no artificial ingredients or preservatives. This place is a must check out. And don't forget to come hungry! Let's go shopping! Bread area. Many items to choose from, made fresh several times a day. Dessert area. Must check out. So many tasty looking confections. I bought their large party size rectangular fruit tart. Delicious and fresh tasting. Other bakeries, don't always take the time to make sure the fruit is ripe so it may end up hard or sour tasting. Get this fruit tart for a celebration. It was the hit of the party I went to. Seafood area. Very fresh looking. Like it just came out of the sea. Got a great deal on sea scallops. Veggie/ fruit aisle. An amazing burst of freshness! Everything looked so fresh, like it was just picked off the farm. Great prices. $0.49lb for bananas. $1.49lb for broccoli that's super fresh looking. Cheese. To get the high quality they are looking for, Wegmans has their own state-of-the-art cheese "caves". The cheeses also come from all over the world. Their cheese called Professor's Brie, won the American Cheese Society 2019, 2nd place in show and gold medal winner. Feeling hungry right now? Let's check out: Pre-prepared food refrigerated area is filled with microwave containers packed with a multitude of savory dishes. Beef, pork, seafood, veggies. There was so many choices, I didn't know where to look first. You name it, they probably have it. Grab a few of these for those nights you don't feel like cooking. Rotisserie chicken. This poultry is raised without antibiotics, cooked to prefection and placed in BFA free plastic resealable carry bag. In flavors of plain, lemon pepper, and bbq. Only $5, just like Costco. Unlike Costco though, these are antibiotic free chickens. I took one home, the plain flavored to try out. Quite tasty, tender and juicy. The infamous Sub Shop (that so many people rave about). Deli meat sandwiches. A small counter next to the Asian station. The subs looked so delicious piled high on a platter for display. There is a worker there to make them fresh according to your preferences. Delicatessen/prepared foods counter. Restaurant quality cooked main entrees, soups and sides. That platter of braised lamb shanks looks delicious. Asian food station. Around a dozen different asian dishes to choose from. Eat in or take out. The Burger Bar. They have an awesome tasting Maple Onion Burger! Six oz. of beef patty, with aged cheddar, smoky bacon, maple onion jam, chipotle aioli on a toasted brioche roll. So good. A delicious combination of flavors! There are also chicken, crab, and vegetarian sandwiches ($9-13). Get a lobster roll for $16. Pizza station. Thin crust pizzas and calzones. Sushi bar. Tried their sushi. It was okay to good. Rice was seasoned correctly. The sashimi pieces were generous and reasonably priced. Salad bar. Lots of different choices. I got there early before they opened. You can see them prepping and cutting the ingredients, fresh. The Buzz. Specialty coffee and tea bar. Chicken wing bar. Fried apps and different chicken wing flavors. Buffalo wings looked pretty tasty. Come hungry and get ready to eat! Let's eat! Run around the vast food market/court and decide what to eat. After getting your food order, take it over to the special food market/court cashier line (in the corner of the store, in front of the Asian food station). There is outdoor seating off to the side of this cashier area. Plentiful indoor seating is also available upstairs. The seating area is awesome! Seriously cushy extra soft chairs! Never heard of in a supermarket food court. A large TV for your watching enjoyment. Large cozy wing-backed leather lounge chairs for your relaxing leisure. Wow. I feel like I'm sitting in someone's living room. You can't get better then that. I didn't want to leave. Extra stars for the seating area! Pricing. Items are a cheap, reasonable and some are expensive. Most are reasonable. Final note: There is a parking lot in front. And of course they have aisles of regular supermarket items. Their own brand high quality products are at discount prices. There is more than 2,000 organic items throughout the store. The food court officially opens at 11am, but some open earlier. Wegmans in Brooklyn! Finally!! I went for the grand opening on October 27 and it was everything a member of the wegmans cult could have asked for. Sure, at 4700 square feet it might be the smallest of the bunch, but it still had everything that I love about the ones in Ithaca and Rochester. The prepared foods section, the sushi, the upstairs bar, the craft beer, the the bakery rivaled the bigger stores. International foods and bulk candy (two of my favorites) were a little bit smaller. I picked up some upstate NY staples like salt potatoes and white hots for old times sake, as well as a pack of craft beer and a California roll for lunch (seriously the best grocery store sushi). It was crazy busy, but the store associates were really well prepared and everyone was helpful, even handing out cookies in line. So glad this place is finally open! Wegmans is the most trendy supermarket now in New York City and we had high expectation before our visit. The store was clean, bright and wide spaced. However, the layout was confusing for us to shop smoothly and you might need to take circles or bump into other customers. There was a great variety of all categories with great quality, especially for cheese, seafood and prepared food which looked super delicious. Finally made it to Wegmans! I've heard about how amazing this grocery shop is for years! This grocery store caters to everyone! From gluten free to vegan friendly. They have items that I haven't been able to find in other stores. This store also offers wegmans brand items, which is cheaper then the brand name. The store is huge, they also have I guess a food court, where you can order pizza or burgers. The hot bar is cool, the have buffalo wings of various flavors. The workers are cranking out baked goods and hot food constantly. Everything's so fresh and delicious. Just a FYI, this place isn't easy to get to if you don't drive or live close by. Came here today on opening day (pouring rain) and it was crowded. Very big, spacious and bright. Parking lot available. Very crowded. Long lines. Small seating area upstairs. They need improvement on food pickup (we got a small pizza so we wouldn't be full especially with all the free samples around)--- not very organize but it is opening day. Amazing products and samples available. Friendly staffs. Clean. Food market not as big as most Wegmans. I was so happy it opened here in NYC after I spent years shopping at Buffalo when I went to college there-- I still have my Wegmans shopping key card so I didn't need to sign up. I'll be back! I think I've been to a bigger Wegmans in NJ. This is nice and new and the produce is very fresh. Prices are on the higher side. I like all their cafeteria food options to eat there. It was really fun actually picking what to eat and eating with my friends here and shopping after. They have a nice sitting area and bar on the second floor. They have sandwiches, pizza, salads, sushi, chinese , fried foods and premade foods to eat. There is a microwave on the second floor as well. I got some mac and cheese and heated it up there and it was actually delicious. I also had a roast beef sandwhich which was very good too, ingredients very fresh and roast beef top quality. They didn't have everything I need. I couldn't find heavy cream or they were just all out, and they had a very small baking section with no foil pie pans or bakers chocolate. Their toiletries section is slim too, no ACT mouthwash. I still rather just go to Stop and Shop, has everything I need there. An Uncle Guiseppies should open in brooklyn, now that is such a good premade food and bakery place, which I like better than Wegmans. read more

Can't give it 4 and certainly not 5 stars. This is wegmans lite. Nowhere near Ithaca or Brockport. This is not the traditional wegmans you go to upstate. Strengths are cheese area, prepared foods and craft beer. Hot chicken wing bar is very good. Seating area upstairs is great. Bar looks amazing but haven't visited. Fresh veg and fruit is better than most large supermarkets and they do have chopped escarole and chopped collards already washed In bags. Bakery is decent as well and staff is really helpful and friendly. They do go out of their way for you. They do not have kielbasa. They do not have a Mixed package of hot and sweet Italian sausage. If you've not been to a real wegmans upstate you might not notice that this store isn't so great. As we make at least a 1/2 hour drive to get here we will probably make the drive 15 minutes longer and go to fairway in red hook. read more

I totally forgot Wegmans opened in Brooklyn and Saturday morning I decided that I'd check it out. It was my first time and as a first timer, I can say the layout is pretty overwhelming. The store is humongous and winding but it is clean and organized. You can find a sales associate in almost every aisle (yes, I walked down every aisle) who are willing to offer assistance. An array of produce, cheese and meats. I also saw a hot food station and what looked to be fresh sushi for sale. I would say the prices are on par with Target, Whole Foods. This location is a long trek for me but no regrets with stopping by. I am unsure if I'd return as most items on my shopping list I can either get at a Whole Foods, Target, or Aldis. read more

Wegmans has the most welcoming and courteous staff of all the grocery stores I've been to in NYC. It's a grocery store with cult-like following, for good reason. They make products of superior quality, including their house brand Amore Gelato, which is by far the best grocery store gelato I've ever had. Their prepared food is also very good. They have a sushi bar that is good quality and cheap, and the chefs in the sushi bar can also make you any special order you request, which doesn't seem to be a common offering at other grocery stores. They're also known for their lower prices and treating their staff well. I'm moving away from NYC and one of the things I'm sad about is that I will not be able to shop at Wegmans anymore, but hope they bring their stores to other locations in the US soon. read more

Wegmans is like a cheaper version of Whole Foods, but with the Whole Foods ambiance. Prices are not as cheap as Trader Joe's, but still not too bad. There's a bakery, hot food bar, cheese bar, similar to Whole Foods. Being from WNY, this store was a bit smaller than I expected, but I was delighted by the selection of available products. Workers were friendly and helpful and there was ample parking. After placing my groceries in my car I returned inside to use the restroom that's located at the end of the hall in an upper level and was completely surprised to find a bar! FINALLY got the chance to experience the Wegmans grocery trip. It's sort of an ideal stop for anyone coming off the brooklyn or Manhattan bridge and feels more like a suburban grocery than anything I've seen in NYC. Indeed, there is a multilevel parking lot next door if the front parking spaces are full. The store has good variety - with a real emphasis on convenience. Lots of ready to eat and ready to prepare packages of food. Plus walk up counters for take out. The prices for these items don't come cheap but then, probably comparable to a blue apron type of deal (which is not something I do). For example, a nice size of lobster Mac and cheese - maybe a pound ? comes to about $15. Poke bowls are similarly priced. Very similar to WF in terms of selections and layout but with more packaged prepared meals. For strictly grocery items, the prices seemed in line with Whole Foods. I felt that the organic meats were a good deal. 2 boneless organic chops for under $9 seemed pretty reasonable. There are good varieties of breads, beers, cheeses and meats but thought seafood options looked slim (they do have live lobster though!) All in all- a good option especially for the neighbors in the navy yard area, where food options seemed relatively scarce. Food desert no more! read more

Maybe this place was built up too much to me that my expectations weren't in check. The prices aren't great and even though the store has a large selection, it didn't have what we wanted (so odd). Also, this store was extremely crowded, even with the large aisles you feel like you are on top of each other. No one is outside keeping track of the volume inside. The prepared foods we bought were okay, nothing to write hope about. The pizza they were serving looked several days old. You didn't get an impression of overall freshness. The fruit looked great but tasted awful, the blueberries had to be thrown out. The strawberries were moldy the next day so I couldn't tell you if they were any good. The clementines weren't sweet and the lemons came out of the bag looking old. The fried rice and Mac n cheese were pretty good. We barely filled our cart and our bill was over $400. I don't think we will be coming back. read more

I love Wegmans, and the new Brooklyn location is no exception. Before they opened at the Navy Yard, I would detour for groceries any time we were near one in Jersey, but now they can just be part of our regular grocery rotation, which makes me so happy. Prices here aren't always better than Trader Joe's or even Whole Foods, but each store has its place. The store has everything you would expect from Wegmans - a large selection, lots of options for prepared and ready-to-eat foods, very friendly employees, samples, and quality produce and store-brand products. It's just a really nice place to grocery shop (especially now that the crowds from opening week have subsided and it's more like a regular grocery store), and adding to the convenience, they have a giant parking lot. The only thing that I don't like is their paper bags at the checkout (they rip easily), but that's just extra incentive to remember to bring our own reusable bags. read more

I have fallen in love with this place. I know its a supermarket...but ohhhh the joy it brings me. I remember visiting Wegmans as a wee lass when I would go on vacation, but of course when you're younger you don't appreciate the supermarkets like you should. However, now in my mid adulting age I can truly give this place all the love it deserves from me. From the ready made food and single package boneless chicken breast for one that as a cook for one can truly get behind to the fresh veggies I've religiously thrown in the airfryer. There was such a buzz about a Wegmans coming into town, but I did not know why until I finally walked inside several years later. Wow, the Brooklyn Navy Yard location is massive and pristine with plenty of staff around to lend a helping hand. I loved that it was a grocery store providing its customers with an enhanced experience through departments that you'd rarely see anywhere else like a market cafe, a burger bar, a sub shop, pizza & wings, an Asian bar, and sushi. What? A central location where I can find the fuel (coffee + food) to start AND end my day? Fresh ingredients that I can use to prepare a meal at home or place an order with a staffer. Thank you! Many of the team members that I met like Josh and William were so personable and friendly. They were genuine, had positive energy, and were dedicated to customer satisfaction -- all smiles indicating a great work culture. If I were in the neighborhood again, I would stop by. read more

Great supermarket. I love coming here for food shopping. They have some of the best fresh produce, and their Wegmans brand products are pretty cheaply priced if you're on a budget. They have a great selection of cheeses, charcuterie, and beer. They also have some of the best rotisserie chicken I've ever had from a supermarket. Apparently, they're also aware of this so they jacked up the price. They also have an aisle dedicated to plant based foods and I was stoked to find multiple brands of chickpea and lentil pasta as well as quinoa chips. There's way more products than that of course. Also love the self-checkout area. It really helps the shopping experience when I can ring my stuff up and go. read more

I finally stopped by this supermarket to check out what all the hype was about. Luckily or unluckily I was visiting during a time I was doing a 30 day clean eating trial. My coworker raves about their bakery section which I had to bypass this visit. I arrived around 9AM and there was no lines (COVID19 period) to get in. I was surprised with their big FREE parking lot. Everyone had their masks on and the store was more crowded inside than I expected. The staff were friendly and helpful when I asked for assistance. I was already prepared to spend more than I usually do in Trader Joes or Stop and Shop which are my go to supermarkets. I specifically looked for specialized items I never purchased in my regular supermarkets and was able to find a variety of items. I purchased my first ever vegan american cheese which wasn't that bad. I finally brought some meatless beef and sausages which were very pricey. LOL. They have a huge vitamin aisle section that looked more extensive than your typical local pharmacy. I ventured upstairs to use the bathrooms that were very clean. I passed the closed restaurant/bar area and was like oh ok. My cart was half full with food but my final bill made it seem like I had a full cart of food, LOL. Towards the end of my shopping I did notice it became more crowded. When I left the store, there was a long line to enter at that point. The problem with Wegmans and its is probably affecting all the Wegmans stores. What it appears they're doing is they are only stocking items that they have the highest markup on. So what were once low-cost budget items were removed sometime during the the pandemic. Example plain orange sherbet in the that larger container. Can't find that anymore, only overpriced gourmet pints. Family style large chicken packs. No more. You can get a smaller family packs of chicken marked. What it looks like to me is that they are not buying from producers who produce low cost large quantity food items they're only buying high cost food items making it look like oh this is just inflation, but it's not inflation they're stocking different food. read more

Wow, this was my first time at this store and I am a huge fan. It's like a combination of a gourmet and a regular supermarket. I was able to find hard to find items that I would need to visit a specialty shop for among household brand name items. Some of the items were a bit pricey but, I was able to find a few good deals. They had sections of prepared food (that you need to re/heat) and hot food to eat in the spacious seating area upstairs (or to go). They also have bathrooms available. A few of the employees I interacted with was rude as hell. It's like they didn't want to be there. No one wants to work but, we still need too. When I was used to live in this area, it was a pretty much dead zone. I am glad they added this supermarket so, people in the area will have access to fresh food. read more

Groovy day Yelpers! It's not often that I review Supermarkets but when you come across a shopping experience so spectacular, so amazing...so groovy that you keep coming back, looking for any excuse to come back (this is my 3rd or 4th trip in a week), then it's time to write a review and share the groovement with like minded foodies. Wegmans was like nothing I have ever seen in one supermarket before. This location is accessible via local buses but if driving is more your swag it is housed within a shopping center so there is a big parking lot. Today I came midday on a Saturday, so there was a lot of people and yet somehow it didn't feel crowded. One of the things that I absolutely love about Wegmans, is that the shopping areas are spaced far enough apart to allow for free flowing traffic. There is a downloadable app that you can use to search for your item. It lets you know what's in stock and even better exactly where to look and the location is 100% accurate. They have a hot bar and seating area located both indoors and outdoors and the staff are really friendly. I have never been to any of the other locations but this location is extremely Groovy! read more

What happened with: A customer is going to a grocery store, products are presented with their respective price and the customer can make a decision to buy or not based on the price? Hitting it hard at the checkout line and leaving products behind after finally finding out the price when the customer gets the receipt isn't something everyone wants to spend their energy on. Not putting prices is a way to deceive the customer! Especially, the produce department is a mess. I see many hardworking employees and don't think it's their lack of attention. I think of it as a strategy by the company to sell more for more, knowing only a few will put up a fight after checkout or bother to ask and wait around to figure out what things cost, and no, the app doesn't work all the time. read more

Wegmans is the most impressive supermarket we've been to in New York City. Notes: - The freshness of, and reasonable prices for, the seafood, fruit, and organic vegetables, is delightful. - We haven't purchased meats here yet, but they look awesome too, in freshness and variety. Wegmans also offers single-servings of premium cuts: an ingenious but still expensive, somewhat disciplined way to explore all the options without becoming a glutton. - Baked goods and freshly prepared (not frozen) foods: The in-house bakery is amazing. We've had the mixed fruit tarts ($25 to $30) -- they are a hit because of the freshness of the fruit and the cake. The sashimi is also pretty good and reasonably priced. Wegmans packages real wasabi with their "family combinations," which adds to the experience. - Wegmans offers a $4.99 rotisserie chicken, like Costco and BJ's Wholesale. Wegmans' version is smaller than those of both competitors, but Wegmans uses chickens raised without antibiotics. Wegmans also offers a $9.99 organic rotisserie chicken. - The store offers a shelf of CBD-infused products. - I like the electric toy train that runs in a loop above a small section of the store; it would be nice if the train could run across more of the store. - Wegmans has a collection of its own take-out restaurants inside -- places that offer deli sandwiches, made-to-order pizza and burgers. There are buffet sections that serve chicken wings, soup, and "Asian" food -- the last being generic Chinese-American take-out, which may work for other cities, but doesn't seem suited to the sophistication of New York City. - There is a cocktail bar on the second floor that serves $8 cocktails, $8 wines, and $5 draft beers during Happy Hour, which is Monday to Friday 4 pm to 7 pm. - The 2nd Floor has some seating and tables to eat food you've purchased at the market. There are well-maintained bathrooms here, which have unique 3-part faucets that dispense soap on the left, water on the center, and air dryer on the right. Shopping carts are not permitted on the 2nd Floor, so stash your purchases in your car, or grocery shop after eating. - The parking lot in front of Wegmans, accessed via Flushing Avenue, is rather small for a store of this size, and it is shared with the currently empty storefronts in the lot. - It may be better to register for a Wegmans Shoppers Club Account (customer loyalty program) online than in-person, as staff request a government issued ID. - Wegmans uses handle-less paper bags, which is OK if you drive; you may otherwise want to bring your own re-usable shopping bags or buy some from Wegmans. - There is free VPN-friendly WiFi throughout the store. Compared to Trader Joe's, Wegmans has better seafood, produce, meats, and freshly prepared baked goods, but seems behind in packaged and frozen foods. Trader Joe's seems to have fewer artificial ingredients and seems generally healthier in these categories. For example, I like how Trader Joe's low-sodium chicken broth has 70mg of sodium, while all varieties of Wegmans chicken broth have 140mg. read more

A much needed large supermarket in North Brooklyn. Prices are what you'd expect of this hipster neighborhood, but there are some fresh products that can be found at reasonable prices. I bought a bag of 4 avocados for $4, broccoli for $1.49/lb., a bag of pre-washed arugula for $1.99, etc. I wanted to get a whole rotisserie chicken for $4.99, but they were all gone! The quality of the food seems top-notch and they have a variety of choices, from Wegman's brand to name brand to gourmet. You'll have a plethora of products to choose from. There are sample stations at various points in the store. You can do self-checkout registers, or full-service registers with baggers. I came on a Sunday afternoon, which was predictably crazy busy. My tip would be to avoid coming here on a weekend day, if possible. read more

Quite a few of my formulative years of my adult life occurred in the frozen hellscape known as Buffalo, New York. I spent nearly 2 years on Bailey Avenue near the South Campus of the University of Buffalo - reading computer science texts, playing Teamfortress, flunking undergrad and eating Sahlen's hot dogs. Buffalo is known as a "Tops" town - that is, their local grocery chain is Tops Friendly Markets (known from Batavia, NY to Erie, PA). If you are not familiar with it, it's a regional chains like IGA in Montreal, Loblaw's in Toronto, Hannaford's in Southern Maine, Giant (DC/Fedland), Acme (NJ...well, it got there after Pathmark/A&P folded), Shoprite and Food Bazaar (NYC Metro). The Tops next to UB South Campus is 24 hours with a deli section, bakery, full service, meat counter, bulk bins and etc. I actually quite enjoy shopping with them and missed browsing there - Hell, it's certainly better than ANY Gristedes, Fairways or Food Emporium in Manhattan. You can often learn quite a bit about local foodways simply browsing through and seeing what is being stocked, and what tends to fly off the shelves. For example, Astoria is known for its complicated demographics, and the large Food Bazaar on Northern Blvd stock Latino/Korean/Thai/Bangladeshi/Polish staples in equal measure. If you hit the World Faire markets you'll find Foul Madamas and Greek Cephalonia cheese in close proximity. Ironbound in Newark is a Portuguese/Brazilian/Latino area, the A&J Seabras there stock bacahlau, picanha, coxinhas, and arepas, and I stop by once a quarter. Murray Hill in Queens is a Koreatown, and their H-Mart stock massive tubs of radish kimchi, more short rib than you know what to do with, and enough cosmetics to enthrall any given Asian lady friend in your company. So given that assertion, what does the Wegmans in Brooklyn say about its local foodways? Lazy rosé-swilling millenials who Instagram every avocado toast they have on their plates. Alright, that's snarky, but this Wegmans location is odd when compared to their cousins (I visited Wegman's outside Wayne, NJ and one in Scranton, PA in the past few years just so I'll have a point-of-reference). Note, for instance, the massive amounts of prepared/cooked foods occupying disproportionate floor space compared to their boonies cousins, along with, oh, a deli section, a cheese cave (16 varieties of cheddar but no Ackawi), a raw bar for lobster rolls, a burger bar, a hot bar with asian specialities (dumplings? yep. Edamame? Check. You call those California rolls sushi? I guess...) and more varieties of mac-n-cheese than you know what to do with, and more importantly, a wine and beer bar upstairs that features rose, varieties of IPAs and local lagers on tap. Get some free-range organic eggs downstairs and we can call it brunch, Jebediah with the good facial hair! But Is it really a Wegman's? The ones in Scranton had a sub shop to go toe-to-toe with Wawa and/or Sheetz. I didn't remember seeing a sub shop here. I spent half an hour looking for Sahlen's hot dogs (a Western NY favorite) and I can't find any here. It doesn't feel like the Wegman's I've been to, it felt like a gussied up, high rent Wegman's - sure it's got some of the more faaaannnnccy organic free-range kombucha on tap near the Oat milk, but the train set at the produce section is still there, just like in every other location. For an apt analogy, think about what happens when your cousin from Wisconsin or Indiana moves to Pratt or Cooper-Union for an engineering degree, and decided to make his/her apartment more "Brooklyn chic". Cute, but look deeper and it's mostly stuff from Homegoods, TJ Maxx and/or Hobby Lobby. Well, it's a very pleasant experience once you are there, with helpful grocery clerks and decent pricing when compared to Whole foods (and certain items are competitive against Trader Joe's. Of course, there are minuses, like the crowds of shoppers, the insane traffic/parking situation and the "this can use work" checkout lines. It's also just a little far from a subway station (no, don't get off at York Street on the F and walk that 10 minutes. Take the F to Jay Street/Metrotech and jump on the B57 or B62 - the 57 will also take you to IKEA or Maspeth/Bushwick, the 62 will take you to Greenpoint/Queens Plaza). In a way, it feels kinda like the grocery version of the Brooklyn IKEA - a little bit out of the way, more car friendly, and to reach there the bus will have to traverse past the NYCHA housing projects (oh, I am sure the residents of Farragut Projects nearby will appreciate the employment opportunities). Anyways, fun. But not coming back too often. Too far and not New York enough. read more

SALAD BAR I love the Wegman's salad bar! I work in the BK Navy Yard, and it is my go-to lunch spot. All the ingredients are so fresh, and with all the dressing options, I have a new salad every day! The staff working the bar are so patient, and make sure you get the amount of ingredients/dressing you want every time. They are always so pleasant and I enjoy the quick conversations I have with them. 10/10! read more

I feel like I've been waiting a decade for this Wegmans to open (or, less dramatically, at least a couple years). While I'm not such a diehard fan that I'd call myself a Wegmaniac and/or show up on the opening day in the pouring rain, after going to Wegmans for most of my childhood, I definitely was looking forward to my first visit. TLDR, this is a Wegmans in the chain you know and love. But because of its city location, it doesn't quite have the sprawl you might expect in a suburban locale. With this in mind, a lot of its departments are definitely paired down. The bulk dry goods and candy (the latter of which is usually my favorite section) are put together in a few sad bins. There is a hot foods counter (also smaller, and at 8pm on a Friday night, a little picked over), a huge produce section, and more cheeses than you know what to do with. Want some $100 caviar, with a porcelain spoon? Sure, you can get that here too. In terms of pricing, I had a little sticker shock. Some things, particularly the Wegmans branded produce and basics, were very reasonable. But others- particularly their prepared foods and seafood- were comparable to Whole Paycheck. A whole rotisserie chicken went for $4.99, which is amazing. Meanwhile, two marinated (not cooked!) chicken thighs went for $8-$10. Overall, if you go for basic grocery items, you'll do just fine. We also sampled a variety of dishes from the marketplace for dinner, some of which were better than others. Skip the packaged sashimi, which was Just Fine, but by no means a bargain. The salad bar and cold bar had plenty of healthy, delicious options. The winner by far were the chicken wings, which had like 8 options to choose from (our favorite was the garlic parm). We spent $42 on dinner for two people, including 2 pounds of the cold bar / wings, the sashimi, and sparkling water. There is plenty of seating upstairs to eat your selections, as well as a bar (which I will definitely be hitting for happy hour soon). While the location sadly means I won't be making Wegmans my regular grocery store (find a friend with a car, or get an uber), it's worth a trip. Their huge selection of meats, cheeses, prepared foods (a pretzel covered in LOBSTER, for $12?? Sign me up!), baked goods, and other treats are perfect for entertaining and really have no comparison to anywhere else in the city (under one roof, at least). read more
