I've been going to wee willies for over 20 years. The last year their quality in food and service has dramatically declined. I keep going out of loyalty and good memories. However, after today's visit I will not be returning. Food was horrible and dried out. Service was worse. I was brought the wrong order, the waitress acted like she was being harassed when I asked for the correct order. I never received what I actually ordered. So i left and will not be returning. The manager and one of the owners, Alisa Lutgens, is one of the rudest, most unprofessional people I have ever met. She verbally abuses her employees, completely disregards employee complaints, and DOESNT WEAR A MASK!!!!!!! Troy Lutgens, the cook and other owner, wears the same stained, disgusting mask every day. UNSANITARY TO SAY THE LEAST!!!!! The Kitchen area is one of the most disgusting kitchens i have ever seen, and i've been working in restaurants for the past 5 years. The entire time I was employed here, it was only me and one other server. On my 3rd day training, I was left with half of the restaurant by myself with no help, and when i would ask for help, they would get mad at me and yell at me if i made a mistake. They make no effort to show compassion to their employees, they completely disregard COVID-19 protocols, and i'm not sure that they actually cleaned that kitchen the entire time i was working there. We came for lunch taking advantage of the WFIU coupon. I would call this your all American diner. The foreign dishes were American versions of same. Social distancing was enforced. The waitress was delightful. The desserts were limited as could be seen from the specials menu. The taco salads were great if you are looking for an all American diner try them out. read more

I am repeat patron that loves the staff and quality of food served. Their prices are fair and their menu has a wide selection to please all palates. The owner is one of the cooks, and his parents help on the weekend. The wait staff is stable, works hard, and are genuinely friendly. The steak and eggs breakfast is amazing and unlike Bob Evans, it even looks like a sirloin steak, not a skinless hot dog ole Bob pawns off as "steak". Enjoy! read more

Saw some posts on Facebook regarding poor treatment of staff. I went in myself and saw a waitress get yelled at. It wasn't even that busy. Didn't really want to try the food because I was warned about mold and poor food safety practices. Waitress was kind. Bought a to-go meal to feed to my dogs my dogs. Tried the "new" Wee Willie's today for the first time. It is cleaner, brighter and friendlier than the original now-closed Bloomington location. Hey, and there is even a sign out front! (unlike the famously no-identifying signage B-town restaurant). We were seated right away, even though it was during prime time on a busy Saturday morning. Service was a bit slow, the young man who took our order had a lot of tables and seemed like he was a newer employee. Still, he was friendly and doing his best. Food came out pretty quickly and the plates were heaping with food. Our orders of eggs, potatoes, pancakes and biscuits were very good. The biscuits are huge! The size of hamburger buns. I was especially impressed with the coffee, it was delicious. Wee Willie's address says Bloomington, but the location is more like Ellettsville. It's a short hop from B-town and worth the drive. Very glad we tried Wee Willie's for breakfast today (while avoiding the Little 5 crowds in Bloomington) and look forward to returning. read more

The Original restaurant opened in Mid 70's in Bloomington by William Lutgens. This being his second restaurant and close to, if not, 20 years old is closer to Elliotsville rather than Bloomington.Their known for fresh squeezed orange juice & lemonade, fresh ground sausage and trying out new menu items often. On a cold rainy morning the coffee was hot and flavorful, fluffy Spinach & Western omelettes were enjoyed and our server, William, did an excellent job with a wonderful sense of humor. Pleasant, warm, friendly restaurant with locals interacting over a good meal. The atmosphere reminded me of Charlie Brown's in Speedway but with a face lift. Nice place for breakfast. read more

Arrived and the host was extremely rude. No eye contact, real grumpy. Waiter took about 10 minutes to get to me and was not that busy. Although the waiter was very friendly. Very homely interior: benches are scratched up, table was dirty, staff was classless to say the least. Awkward and uninviting atmosphere and culture. Food came out. Got the fajitas and it smelled awful and also had fries (which got me sick to my stomach). Returned fajitas and waiter said he would comp them. Went to Wee Willie's for the first time since the old (original) location on the South side closed down. I was incredibly happy with my experience! Finally, a diner in Bloomington that is both inexpensive and delicious. I took my sister and her husband out to Wee Willie's this morning to avoid the welcome week crowd in downtown Bloom. I ordered the #1, which is a classic "choose your meat" egg breakfast dish. For $6 I received wonderful cured bacon, oniony home fries, eggs and delicious thick Texas toast. I definitely couldn't even begin to eat it all! Even the coffee was really great, which isn't something I expect at a diner. Overall, I would say that Wee Willie's is carrying on the legacy of the original store. Friendly staff and good old homestyle Indiana breakfast. When "I'll be right with you" turns into an hour of waiting for service, food, and the bill. When two waitresses have a conversation about wanting to seat you and you basically become an inconvenience and an afterthought when one of them turns to you says "I guess I can take you guys". Had to ask for straws especially when they tell you they'll get straws and forget. The service was abysmally inadequate and atrocious especially after we waited over an hour for our food and finally got it after they noticed we were about to leave and got miffed about it. The mediocre food was nothing to write home about. And the waitresses were all touching their faces, hair and noses without washing their hands. The menus have price changes all over them which makes it look like they can't afford to get new updated pristine menus. The cooks in the back had no hair nets on or beard covers! We found 2 white hairs in my boyfriends food! Disgusting!!! Also immediately after my boyfriend ate his omelet his stomach was upset and he puked up everything he ate! Then on top of that we had two people serving us and neither of them once asked to refill our drinks and my boyfriends coffee was gone in a matter of 5mins being there due to the cup being very small!!! UPDATED REVIEW I used to like Wee Willie's. All I can say now is that you should get the salads. They are big and colorful and delicious and put together by a different person all together from the hot plate person who is a stingy person beyond all I have ever seen. The serving of rice I ordered couldn't have filled my tiny hand. However, the waitresses (who assemble the salads, by the way) are wonderful. They are understanding and try to do their best to make your meal pleasant under the circumstances. I was there a couple of months ago and the new policy was that if you ordered water, you only got a little bitty glass (for which the waitresses were profoundly apologetic) because the owner was annoyed that people would bring those packets of drink powder. All I can say is cheap is as cheap does. They still haven't made new menus, though they've been saying they would for over a year. In short, go, and have the nicest waitresses in the world bring you a wonderful salad! YOU go! Because I hate salads. ORIGINAL REVIEW I like Wee Willie's. The food isn't particularly healthy or enlightening, but the waitresses are nice enough to put up even with my dad's shenanigans. We willie's in Ellettsville has always been a solid little restaurant. The atmosphere is a lot different than the original location, but it's still good. For the most part, every meal I have ever had has been pretty good, and the service has beed good as well. They have quite a varied menu, and I think you can get breakfast most of the day, but I could be wrong. They keep the place clean, and the food is consistent. The prices aren't bad either. Definitely worth stopping in for a light and casual meal. read more

This is definitely a long overdue post but it's something that I still feel the need to voice. I would like to talk about my experience working at Wee Willie's on the far west side of Bloomington ( or Ellettsville ). I worked there for about 4 months and within that time, they proved to be one of the most unprofessional businesses I have come across. Starting with the fact that they hired me and one other person, and ONLY us, with the promise that they would continue to consistently look for more servers. To clarify, the other person and I were the only servers. (Spoiler: for the entirety of that 4 months) The reason to that is because a couple weeks before getting hired there, every single one of their servers walked out in unison. That says something within itself already but I chose to see how things would play out. After starting the managers and owners, Alisa and Troy Lutgens, asked if I would be willing to work 6 days a week just for a couple weeks until they found more servers. (My availability was 40 hours a week). I said yes thinking it would actually be a couple of weeks, and eventually they just stopped asking and continued working me to the bone. 60-65 hours a week, for four months. Don't get me wrong, for some people that's nothing, but it's not was I was hired for. To add on, throughout my entire experience I was treated with absolutely no respect. Their excuse to that was that restaurants are stressful to run, fast paced, "everybody's going to get angry", etc. I was told to my face by Alissa Lutgens that she wanted to bitch slap me, strangle me, put me through a meat grinder and plenty more. Almost every interaction I had with them was demeaning in one form or another. I had no option to call in or miss work, even if I was extremely sick. At one point I came into fully direct contact with someone that ended up testing positive for COVID-19 just a few days later. Like a normal and rationally thinking person would, I informed both Alisa and Troy Lutgens about it and they told me to "play dumb" and if anyone asks anything to lie. They wanted me to continue coming to work even though I hadn't gotten tested yet. Later that same day I decided that was morally wrong considering the vast majority of Wee Willie's customers are people 85+ and little children. I called and told them I wouldn't be returning to work until I received a negative test result, which was my legal right with how bad the pandemic was at the time. The way they reacted to this was extreme and unnecessary. They called me names and acted like children. Within the time I had off (4 days), I called the health department and informed them what had happened. When I returned to work (with a negative test result), they ended up coming to Wee Willie's and talking to Alisa Lutgens about their covid policies. She lied through her teeth and afterwards looked at me and asked if she sounded believable. This baffled me after everything that had happened, after they ADMITTED to keeping the dining room FULLY open the ENTIRE pandemic, after the fact that Alisa Lutgens DOESNT WEAR A MASK AT WORK WHEN DEALING WITH FOOD for some invisible illness she claims to have, after openly talking about how neither of them BELIEVE in the virus. I felt super hopeless at that point and scared shitless to quit. They made me feel so awful everyday, even though I was doing excellent work. I ran around that restaurant, worked my ass off and made great money. The next day I expressed wanting to put in my two weeks because of how I was being treated. Without saying the words "no", they said no. That I couldn't and that they would just try to look for more servers. And they did. We ended up hiring a couple, they all quit. Nobody wanted to deal with how they were being treated, specifically by Alissa Lutgens. After this entire conversation, I went back to working normally. Within a few days I was called over by Troy Lutgens, smack dab in front of an entire dining room full of people, to be yelled at about how I wasn't taking this pandemic seriously and I need to try harder. My jaw literally dropped. They do not/did not care about this pandemic and how it would/does affect their customers. At this point I decided I had enough and I walked out. I live a mile or so from Wee Willie's West and it is on my way home. So it is easy. So are about 15 other places in the way home. But I will not stop at one of them, especially not for a burger on those evenings we need to do a burger supper. Willie's gets it right and it hits the spot. It is a convenient spot for a local breakfast, lunch or coffee meeting, not crowded between meals, so I regularly find myself here. Though I like "high dining" and finer lunches, I do not complain. It will be predictable and steady and I can get on with my day without delay or problems. This may sound like faint praise but it is not damning with faint praise. This is a good solid diner in an area of town with little to offer after pizza and Mexican and a smattering of fast foods. I shudder at those but take comfort entering Wee Willie's. I can get in and out quickly or take a book and linger, no one will be bothered. Unlike the downtown flagship, this joint is open for supper so its convenience quotient is high with me. We had breakfast at WW today. I chose the biscuit and gravy meal, which also came with hash browns, coffee, and two eggs. It was average; the sausage gravy did not appear "homemade" and the scrambled eggs had no flavor beyond the basic fare. Hash browns were the best part of the meal. I don't drink coffee so the waitress did deduct that from the cost of my order. My husband chose a meal which included coffee, 2 eggs, meat samplers, hash browns and English muffin. Even though he tweaked the menu somewhat, everything was prepared as he requested. Other than the food tasting rather blah, our waitress wasn't around after she delivered our food. I'm always a bit disappointed in a server that doesn't stop by to check on everything about 5 minutes into your meal. Also, the interior of the restaurant isn't appealing. If I were paying $2 or $3 for my food, that'd be understandable, but our basic breakfast came to $18 with a tip, so it seems they could put a tad more effort into brightening up the interior. Would I go back? In all fairness, i might try lunch or dinner, but I'm definitely choosing somewhere else for breakfast. read more

We frequent Wee Willies as we live close by. The food is always good and the prices are cheap, especially for the amount of food you get. Some of the wait staff can appear pretty rough but most are friendly. However, if they are the least bit busy they will not answer phones for take out orders nor will they answer drive thru (call 6 times without answering, wait 5 minutes at the drive thru without response). Comfortable inside and everything tasted good. I had all kinds of special requests (hot water and lemon that wasn't tea, because of my throat, and potato salad on top of a salad etc.) and they didn't mess any of it up. Overpriced very dry hamburgers. I took my brother there and told him to be careful to specify a 1/4 lb hamburger or they will double the size and charge you $20.00 for the burger which happened to me in the drive thru. We both got 1/4 lb burgers. They flatten it out on to a hugh 6" bun, charge extra for the cheese and asked what toppings we want. I asked for lettuce, tomato and onion and mayo or whatever sauce they put on burgers. The waitress said we serve our burgers "dry". She offered ketsup and mustard on the side but only brought ketsup. We both got dried out burgers with no sauce, coffee and a tea and it cost $19.80 before tip. Guess what, no tip. We have been coming here for breaskfast for years and the food has aways been food but today i was so surprised they have a new guu working as Host, Kevin, he's tall hia height is a Big advantage because he can check to see which tables are free quickly, he's friendly and on top of it. Called in an order for a Manhattan and a Turkey Club, had to explain a Club Sandwich to the person on the phone. Picked up the order, went home and was freaking shocked at what I paid for, not to mention a 20% TIP. Took it back, the so called manager did not want to hear about it, she was much too busy with her costumers as she explained, I thought I WAS a customer, guess not as I had already paid. Took 15 minutes for the cook to come out and figure out how to do a refund. Then I was told it would take at the least 24 hrs for the debit to my card. I have lived in Elletsville for 12 years and have gone to Wee Willies 6 times, out of the six times not one order has ever been correct nor has any order (Club Sandwich) (see picture of the so called Turkey Club) ever looked like the previous order, or a Club Sandwich for that matter. This is a nice Mom and Pop departure from other Bloomington places. The wait staff are super friendly and literally run around taking care of tables. My coffee there is always topped off. I've had the fish, steak, and breakfast eggs - all very good. My better half is a fan of the black bread dinner rolls. The place fosters a quaint relaxed atmosphere with few (if any) students if you are looking to get away from campus culture a bit.
