They remodeled and things clearly look updated, but cleanliness is an issue. A server was literally sitting looking at her phone when I walked in. Went this A.M. for breakfast, and the one word I use for all of it is...BLAND...I had the breakfast skillet with fried potatoes instead of hash browns. The only thing that had any taste was the bell peppers. Potatoes OK, sausage was so overcooked it had no flavor. eggs had nothing, cheese had no flavor. Sausage gravy predominant flavor was flour. Even the sausage in the gravy had no flavor. English muffin barely even toasted. Place is fairly nice and food was presented well, but nothing in this meal would have me return. read more

3 minutes ago New Breakfast Today we came in with a very large party. We first got sat at a booth around our other 20 friends, only to be told our party of five needs to move to the other side of the restaurant. Then my wife went to the car and noticed a homeless gentleman outside. She came in and because of the heat asked if she could buy a drink in a to-go cup. The waitress asked if it were for the homeless guy outside, my wife says "yes". Waitress says "no I'm not selling you a drink for that man outside. I'm glad you told me that's what it would be for." Storming away from taking out orders, and goes outside yelling at the man who wasn't even out front of her restaurant, but down towards the corner of the building. Telling him she's calling the police. This all while I'm flabbergasted that she's doing this knowing I followed her to the door witnessing her behavior. She then came in and called 911. I went back to my seat where our group was appalled by what we seen and had no choice but to leave. The others in our group had already ordered otherwise they would have lost all 30 of our party. I can't reward an establishment that can't even be a decent human being. I could look past standing around waiting for a table to be cleared off for 20 minutes, it was a Saturday morning. But the service was a little less than average, and the food was not great. Especially the kids meal. Mac and cheese was microwaved so long it was inedible, 2 different meals came out missing items/ingredients. The restaurant has been completely renovated which was a nice sign when we walked in. However, we noticed heavy glass vases sitting behind booths that would make parents of young toddlers scared for safety. It did appear that a small piece of tape was put under each glass but I'm not sure how stable that made them. The restaurant operates on a seat yourself policy, but it ended up taking almost 20 minutes for us to be greeted. Our server walked by us a handful of times during that period to clean dirty tables and drop off things to other customers, but didn't greet us. I ordered their grits, toast, and egg meal and an espresso drink. Our food took about 20 minutes to arrive. During that time I went to the bathroom and noticed a large bag of someone's makeup was left in the bathroom within 6 inches of the sink. No one was in the bathroom at that time so I found that oddly gross to leave personal makeup (worth over $500) in a public bathroom. The floors in the bathroom also had yellow buildup around the edge of the floor and the walls. When my food came out I received oatmeal instead of grits and there was issue with bringing out the grits. My group was done eating by the time they arrived undercooked. Once we were done eating we waited for our check to be dropped off but observed our server leave the restaurant and not come back in. I walked up to the counter and waited long enough for a nearby customer to comment on how it "seems like they don't want to take your money." Roughly 4 minutes later another server came up and helped cash us out. We paid for our meal and left, as an hour long experience in a restaurant like this without a present server, dangerous artwork, incorrect food, and unhygienic items and cleanliness being noted in a bathroom were enough to make us run. This is a classic diner and was a place that my boyfriend came to when he was a kid. Good, greasy food, fast and inexpensive. They are in a shopping center that has ample parking. It's very spacious inside with lots of seating....I didn't see any outside seating. They have all the classic meals - I got the biscuit and gravy and my boyfriend got the chicken fried steak. We both lived our food and ate it all. The bacon was a generous portion and really yummy too. I loved my hash browns, they were cooked perfectly and weren't salty like most places. Our food came out SUPER quick. Everything was quick, seated quickly, cup of coffee with refills quickly, the food and the check. Very efficiently ran and our server was on her game. They have restrooms available that were decent. They also right by a donut shop that's amazing so check that out too! read more

I honestly prefer the one on the East side, but this one is alright. I prefer the lunch there. If you want breakfast go to the other one. The employees are nice. The food comes out quick as does the food at the other Cloverleaf. Now, the remodel is nice but not my favorite restaurant design, but it's alright. read more

Today I waited ten minutes before someone came to my table - despite a number of empty tables in the place. The server was unfriendly. The food was adequate. I had to ask for silverware. I've flagged my server three times to get my check, and nothing still. She's more focused on laughing and talking than helping customers. A couple other tables have looks of frustration as well. There was no way we were eating breakfast at our hotel again since the food was terrible. So we decided to come here for breakfast instead. They were open early, which was a plus. It's basically your neighborhood mom & pop breakfast place. They have a huge menu with endless options. Lots and lots of choices for super decent prices. Our server was very nice and ready to answer any of our questions. Our meals were okay. We weren't expecting anything super fancy... just a quick breakfast before work, and that's exactly what we got. I may come by again in the future if it's all that's open. (2 stars due to some of the other 1-star reviews. It's important to note that I didn't share their experiences... and I understand the frustration of being out of work due to Covid, however; certain posts and responses to customers are uncalled for.) The Cloverleaf is the sort of place that reminds me why I love breakfast food. If you like specifying the perfect way to cook your eggs, if you like choosing between biscuits slathered in gravy, between ham, sausage and bacon, or maybe a breakfast skillet, or an omelet, and/or some hash browns, this is your kind of place. It's got a no-frills, casual interior, and the place is always filled with locals, many of whom seem to have been coming here for a long time. Food comes out fast. Just good old-fashioned American deliciousness and value. My favorite Cloverleaf memory is the time I witnessed a server balancing nine -- I kid you not -- nine plates of food in her arms as she headed to a table with a big hungry family waiting. read more

Perfect Unique diner experience! Parking can be a bit difficult to get to but the lot itself is fine. You seat yourself and the wait time for food is typically ten minutes. Very quick. The food is awesome for the price and the atmosphere is uplifting and warm! They have both breakfast and lunch items which plenty of options. This has been a go-to breakfast joint for our family for years.... Today we received the same satisfactory, quality of food to which we are accustomed. However, the young man waiting on us had no desire to provide any acceptable level of service. Every component of our order had some level of challenge. He couldn't seem to understand that 5 people wanted 5 drinks. He thought 4 was enough. My wife ordered a ham and cheese omelette with mushrooms. She was told she couldn't have mushrooms... It took 3 separate requests for the salsa and sour cream. We specifically asked for 2 separate checks at the beginning of the meal, and reminded him at the end of the meal.... to which he brought a single bill. When he fixed it, he brought 3 checks... Service was slow today, and the food was barely edible. I tried a lunch special this time instead of breakfast and was more disappointed than usual. The pork chop was dry, most of the baked potato was too hard to eat, and the macaroni with tomatoes tasted and smelled like it had been seasoned with some kind of cleanser. Based on the behavior of the owners during the COVID 19 pandemic, I will never patronize this restaurant again. There are plenty of good, local Bloomington restaurants who are abiding by the local and state health orders and taking care of their staff and their customers during COVID. Please seat yourself. Our waitress came over right away and got our drinks. It is a very fast moving restaurant. Our drinks came in 30 seconds and we were ready to order. Literally we did not wait more than 5 minutes for our food to come out. I got the workingman's with sausage patties and well done fried eggs. It also comes with biscuits and gravy and hash browns. The boyfriend got a half order of biscuits and gravy with a side order of fried potatoes. Food was good and we were stuffed. We had to try the crane game right by the exit door. I went here this AM and used to patron a lot when the restaurant was in a different location. No one wearing masks including employees. I called and talked with the owner and she admitted most of their employees are elderly and have asthma and "aren't comfortable" wearing the masks. Also admitted they don't have the facilities to properly socially isolate. I reminded her we are still in a global pandemic and that employees should model the social distancing guidelines and create a clean, safe place for patrons to eat or pick up food. From her FB comments and "opinions," it is clear she feels their political views come before the health and safety of the community. Trying to open during a pandemic, stating their employees are not "comfortable" wearing masks, and no visible policies posted for visiting a restaurant during Covid pandemic shows the irresponsibility of the owners and employees. "Hoosiers 65 and older and people with high risk medical conditions should limit exposure in their communities." Clearly she is putting the public at risk and letting her "freedoms" and views "trump" the heath and safety of the Bloomington community. Based on breakfast I give it 5 stars! I went for the first time and got biscuits with sausage gravy, hashbrowns, and a side of sausage patties, with chocolate milk to drink. All this was just $8.50 and VERY filling! The food is homemade country style cooking and felt like home. The atmosphere has a nice charming feel to it like it's where all the cowboys and sweet southern folk can be found with country music playing over the speakers. I don't typically care for country music - but in a place like this, nothing else would do. It fits and it makes it feel cozy. It's just a nice down to earth place and I will definitely be going back again. Oh - and this is also the first place I have ever seen that will take 5% off of your bill if you pay with cash! That is pretty cool. Where else can you go at 5 in the morning to have an AMAZING breakfast? My wife is a nurse and sometimes we get up incredibly early(by my standards) so that we can spend the morning together. Every now and then we get up even earlier so we can to Cloverleaf and have a wonderful homey meal. The prices are great and the food is even better. They close at 3 pm but I get it. They're not breakfast all day. I would highly recommend the country breakfast or the chicken fingers if you're not feeling breakfast. P.S. They give a discount if you pay with cash. First, it's in a strip mall and looks small from the outside, but once you're thru the door you'll be amazed at how spacious the place really is. Cloverleaf is one of those local places that has super friendly staff and down home cooking. They have recently made some upgrades, painting, decor-looks great! There is ample seating and usually seat yourself in a booth or tables to the side. The staff are quick to wait on you, perfect amount of checking in, refills of water/coffee are very quick and the food comes out in record time! The menu-think grandmas house, chicken, tenderloins, green beans, etc. The breakfast (which I believe is served all day) is the basic biscuits/gravy, eggs, bacon, omelets, etc. This round I got the veggie omelette, light onions and no cheese-side of hash browns and did not disappoint. Melts, blt sandwich, club, tenderloin, fried chicken, bbq, all great hearty and real. Large offering of sides and homemade desserts. Usually some "not on the menu" sweet treats at the register to buy and take home. Friendly and fast. Big parking lot and plenty of seating. We decided to try out The Cloverleaf Family Restaurant the other day. The Cloverleaf has been around Bloomington forever. It is, of course a locally owned, family business. Now aren't those 2 things alone enough reason for you to bop on in there and at least give the place a shot? Fortunately, there are lots of other good reasons to go there. Now, if you're looking for gourmet food, or a hoity-toity ambience, this is not your place. But, if you're looking for good old, down-home, family cooking, you have come to the right place. All the food is excellent, a lot like Mom used to make. I had biscuits and gravy for lunch. Hey, don't knock it if you haven't tried it. haha Excellent, friendly service. Excellent prices.
