I must have been a masochist by coming here. Unfortunately, Calumet closed down, and this is the ONLY place to buy camera equipment without taking the hike to NYC and shop at a real store like B&H or Adorama, or Allen's Camera in Levittown. The overall attitude of this place really made it easy for me to not come back. I could have handled the extra $300 price tag that they love to overcharge you with. If I am paying more than what other stores are selling, at least have some good customer service skills. They are just too condescending and unhelpful. For example, they like to shove alternatives down your throat, even if you know what you want to buy. There was also a time where I wanted a specific item that I spent days researching online. They simply ignored my request and tried to sell me some crap I know it was bad. In Calumet, they treated you like a customer. They will give you tips and offers for the item you wanted. They never treated me like an idiot, nor ever made me feel inferior compared to their "awesome" experiences as photographers. I say forget this place, and buy your gear on Amazon, B&H or Adorama. Even KEH sounds like a better idea than buying from this store. If Allen wasn't so far away, it would have been my new spot. Webbcam may be ideal for renting equipment, but it is not worth the headache. Besides, real photographers know someone who can borrow equipment. read more

This is exactly the type of shop that Philadelphia needs. The people working in this shop are experts; they are helpful without being condescending. I went into the shop with a glitch in the camera (the automatic focus refused to do so) and in two minutes they had the camera working again. In an era when everyone shops online, this store is local. It's mere presence keeps the center city area alive and thriving. Because of their knowledge they can suss out a problematic camera and deal directly and quickly with the problem. There is no need to send a broken camera through the mail to some faceless camera repair shop. These guys are right here in center city. I came in for help with my mom's Nikon FE (the camera my grandpa gave her when she graduated high school, so it's super special to my family); my rewind stopped working (and fell off) and I was having some issues with my reload catching. The team here was so helpful and kind; they fixed my rewind and immediately noticed some other potential issues with its mechanics that they also fixed. Super fast service - I cannot recommend them highly enough! They were professional and knowledgeable and made my day!! read more

If you're in search of welcoming customer service, Webb Cam is not the place to go. They have tons of equipment but one gentleman (older, bald, wears glasses sitting to the back right behind the counter) in particular that works in the store is extremely rude. He seems as if he doesn't want to be bothered with customers when being asked for extensive education on products, and carried an extremely negative tone and disposition when questioned about return items earlier today. It's a shame because I've been buying from there for most of my camera needs over the last four years but after the way I was treated today, they'll never see another dollar from me. There is a new camera shop on 2nd and Market called Unique Photo which carries way more inventory with a much more friendlier staff. read more

Everything they sell is at least 30% more expensive than B&H, like the ilford darkroom paper, they sell it for $40 while others only sell $27. WTF??? My film camera broke down where you rewind the roll during my trip in Italy almost a year ago. I finally took care of it, left it at Webb Cam and they did an awesome job. They were super quick (they called me an hour later) and very helpful. The guys were also very nice and non judgmental, which happens often in the field--people assume you're ignorant and you're just a hipster. They also have a wide variety of rolls for different uses and fares, I was really happy about that too. Definitely recommend and would run back there for more help. read more

I purchased a cable to connect my camera to my computer on August 13th. I went home and tried the cable I had purchased and it didn't work. I immediately called the store and told them the cable wasn't working and that I would return it the following morning. When I took the cable they tested on a camera body and said it worked fine. They told me that they didn't take returns. They never offered to help me troubleshoot my camera, they never mentioned a no return policy over the phone or through any sign in the store, nor on their website. They were argumentative and unhelpful. They never asked to see my camera to see if they could resolve the issue. I left their store feeling ripped off. Its like they only exist for themselves not for their customers. Sort of like con-men like Donald Trump. To sum it up, poor poor customer service, condescending and dismissive attitude, and selective enforcement of return policies. read more

Webb Cam saved my life, again. Besides offing everything I need for rentals, they're willing to help you out in an emergency situation and last week, I definitely had one. I walked into the store with a broken 50mm lens attached to a 7D that refused to come off the USM. My lens broke, 15 minutes earlier during a photo shoot I had just begun. I did not have a second camera body, so I had to find a place to go asap, and Calumet is always out of the question (their rental policy is ridiculous.) In less than 10 minutes I was out the door with a rental 7D and an even nicer 50mm lens. I also had no money, but being a frequent customer I was able to pay them after the weekend and I was back at my shoot within no time, and the lens was fantastic. Thank you! read more

The quality it is good (pricey), but after my second and last experience purchasing over $1,000 worth of product with my partner I was not happy with the customer service. We came in looking for specific items and the guy "helping" was straight up rude. Specifically to me, and as a small Hispanic woman it was very uncomfortable. I'd comment or ask about comparisons between tripods and couldn't even finish my sentence before getting cut off and sternly told what to buy. I have some experience with shooting and modeling but my excitement was killed the moment this younger (also looks Spanish or mixed with darker curly hair) employee shut me down and turned his attention to my partner instead. It was humiliating. He also kept trying to aggressively push expensive merchandise we didn't require for OUR needs on what we shoot. It was so uncomfortable that I felt humiliated and decided to walk out while my partner paid. As I left my partner was approached even more aggressively by that same employee who kept pushing to buy more products instead of just ringing us up. My partner wasn't happy with the employee either, but we needed equipment last minute so it was our last resort option. If you're a woman, avoid the incel nervous younger employee. Just go to Unique Photo instead. They treat women with respect and are more LGBTQ friendly. I left feeling unhappy with our purchase, we ended up with an expensive case we don't use, and the only reason I'm giving any stars is because they have my partner a $200 refund. Not for mistreatment but because that same younger employee sold us the wrong memory card. read more

I found Webb Cam through my Dad. They may seem a little out of the way for some folks but they are well worth the trip. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable and they have a great selection of equipment. You never have to worry about the hassle of some nerdy Best Buy salesman breathing down your neck to buy, buy, buy. Even the mayor's official photographer shops here. Went in yesterday after discovering this place on Yelp. They seemed to have a decent stock of everything, including new and used gear. The staff was super helpful in helping me choose a new lens, and I was able to test out a few lenses on a camera that they had lying around. Plus any store with dogs walking around is awesome. I've passed this store hundreds of times on my way to Reading Terminal before going in for the first time today. It really is as good as the other reviewers have mentioned. I am shopping for a 2nd-hand DSLR. Two gentlemen, one named Jack, were very kind in showing me through the paces of a few units and were happy to interchange a few additional lenses. I'm not a pro by any means but they were still willing to let me handle the cameras and take a few shots to get a feel for how each performed. While I didn't find just what I was looking for I liked the shop and would recommend them. Their selection of pro lenses and lighting is excellent. If you have something in mind they will have it, and it will be fairly priced. Not the cheapest, but very fair. You can't beat their personal service. EDIT 7/25: I revisited the store today and bought the camera & lens I was looking at from a nice young fella named Matt. He happily answered my novice questions while fielding phone calls and occasionally breaking to help another customer. He wrapped up my new camera in bubble wrap for the ride home. Very thoughtful. Could have easily told me tough luck, buy a bag. Knowing I had one and just forgot to bring it he helped me out. Now that I've spent money with them I want to further recommend them. Stopped in because I had a filter stuck on my camera. The onsite repair guru removed the filter without damaging threads on the camera or filter in less than 5 minutes and did not charge me. They were friendly and had what appeared to be a well merchandised store. read more

After my camera got wet. I took it to Webb Cam for repair. I found the service very efficient. They sent my camera to the manufacturer where they confirmed that well "it is dead." They received a used one that had hardly been used and said that they would offer it to me first. I had my doubts but I trusted them. Webb Cam is a great store run by honest and helpful owners. Today before flying off to Africa for a month, my boyfriend needed a battery charger for a high end digital camera. We called up the store, the owners told us they had two options and gave us prices. When we arrived they showed us the two options, and sold us on the less expensive option because they thought it was a better quality and better deal. And the less expensive option also came with a car charger and just the adapter he would need while abroad. As two graduate students, that was a huge help. We will definitely continue to be their customers. It is so nice to have a locally owned camera shop with super knowledgeable and nice people! read more

Updated- I have used this place on and off over the years. Never had too many issues. When I went to try to sell used gear they were less then Good to deal with. The person dealing with this was less then nice and offered me $30 for about $500 of sellable used gear. It wasn't the money that bothered me but the way I was treated. The owner made a comment asking if I visited my moms attic as if condemning my gear and it was insulting. I sell records and I understand that you only get like 20% value on this stuff. I had three instax cameras in good working and cosmetic order. Also a name brand tripod that retailed for $200. There were a few lenses and older cameras. They offered me $30 for what had at least $300 resale value. Again it wasn't the money it was the rudeness of tre owner and having my gear insulted as if I found it on the street. I wanted to support my local camera shop but would never shop here again. I have heard similar reports from another friend dealing with the same type of stuff. read more

Seller promised a 30 days return policy for a product. We had to return the product as it didn't work our system. However, when we can to the store they refused to honor their own return policy (reneged on their promise for a 30 days return). After much arguing returned 50% of the price. I called WEBB CAM on 10/31/13 for a Canon d60 battery charger. The older gentlemen (the heavy one ) answered the phone. He told me that they had them and it would cost me $32.00. I question why the price was so much higher that the prices that I was comparing on line. He VERY RUDLY told me to go by a $10.00 charger. I was SHOCKED and said on wow. My wife and I recently visited Webb Cam for the first time to look at a few different cameras that we were interested in. We picked the shop primarily from just reading its Yelp reviews. From our experience, I would say the positive reviews on this page are right on. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted as if we were regular customers. John, I believe was his name, answered every question we had and more. My wife had done her research on what we were looking at where as I had absolutely no clue. He transitioned from her very technical questions to my basic "how long does the battery last" questions with ease and without any condescending smirks that I honestly expected based on my knowledge of what we were looking at. In all, he was great and we purchased a camera from him with no hesitation. We will definitely make this our go-to camera shop in Philly, and I would have no problem recommending it to others. read more
