Have usually been very satisfied with Weathervane -both the service and the food. But it seems prices are up and quantity is down. $29 for a whole belly clam dinner with only 10 clams. That's $2.90 per clam. That's high, considering that a gallon of shucked clams with about 200 clams wholesales for about $200. The building is nicer inside than outside. As you'd expect from a seafood restaurant, it's a fisherman's theme. I realized I have never written a review for this restaurant and I have been going there for over 20 years. All I can say is kudos - every meal I have had there has been excellent. I've had the fried clam lunch and dinner, grilled chicken sandwich, and the root beer float, which is amazing. My husband has had the Admiral's Platter, which is fried shrimp, scallops and clams. I haven't been here in a while, but recently had the chance to stop in and got the lobster roll. It was reasonably priced (it was off season) and I opted for the celery/mayo. Lots of lobster meat, just enough mayo and the roll was not too crisp or too soft. Absolutely perfect. I opted for a side salad and ended up bringing that home because the lobster roll was so filling. This is a definite go to if you are in the area - some of the best seafood around and alternatives for those who don't like seafood. GO! read more

Tired small old spot. That probably hasn't seen any major renovations or updates in 30 years. Even though there were two waitresses working on the tables in the areas. They sounded like parrots pretty much saying the same thing. I don't really understand for the life of me why a seafood restaurant hires people that don't eat seafood and can offer no recommendations to the elderly patrons who continuously ask for them. I got the twin lobsters at $44 it was half the price of what the other locations have been all year but with lobsters at $5.99/lb in the store it doesn't seem like such a great deal especially with these light weights that were boarderline ready to be thrown back because they were too light. This is the second weathervane restaurant I have been to, the other being in Maine. I love the decor here. Our waitress was awesome! She made our time very enjoyable and was very helpful with ordering. My daughter and I had the fried haddock and my parents had the haddock nuggets. The portions were really big! We asked for the fish to be cooked well, and it was perfect! The fish was flaky and not wet, and the fries were crispy and fresh. I do wish they would make their own fries rather than use frozen ones, but that is just me. If you have been to a weathervane you probably no what to expect as the food is pretty much the same as it is at the other one we went to. Dined at the bar and Stacey took great care of me. Went with a good old Sam Adams Lager, the Half-Half combo of Sea Scallops and Whole Belly Clams along with Pa's World Famous Onion Rings (upcharge) and creamy cole slaw. Look at the pictures...if you know fried seafood you can tell this meal was perfectly cooked. The batter is light and doesn't overpower the seafood and of course clean oil is essential to presenting a delicious fried seafood platter. My tab was $47.45, paid with $100 cash, was given $45 in change when I was owed $52.55.She said it was an "accident" but she didn't even leave the coin change, so I'm sure she does this constantly and pockets the extra money. I had the manager give me my change. Not to mention I wasn't given anything I asked for after food drop off I.E napkins, refill, anything. I came in alone. We had a great meal here on Good Friday. I had shrimp cocktail and my friend had clam strips. The portions were huge and the clam strips were delicious and not at all greasy. Ok, I give them a benefit of a doubt with 4 stars because they have been around so long. It's not quite what it used to be though. Prices are up and you get a little less in the fact they no longer serve rolls before your dinner. I know, same story everywhere, but here it seems to be more striking. Seems they've tried to accentuate the bar area, and in doing so, they are alienating the diners going for a quiet meal. The bar was rather loud during dinner with occasional outbursts of people having fun, I'm not saying that it's bad, just not what Anderson going to just have a nice meal would want. They could benefit from adding sound proofing between the bar and dining areas. As for the food, it was very good, cooked well and flavorful. Unfortunately the plate was so cold, I felt I had to eat fast or not be able to enjoy warm food. Maybe keep the plates in a warmer spot? I'll update next time I go back and see if they improve. Disappointed at this location. We came in by 2:20 on a Sunday and were there with a couple other patrons; This meant they were not busy. We quickly put in the order with the waitress and then lost track of time while we had a conversation with our friends. We realized it was 3:00pm and no food yet. We hadn't even been served rolls, which was asked for. We looked around now and there were a few other tables including a large party of about 10 a little behind us and a group of 4 nearby. All had been served food, yet we had not. Finally, about 3:10p, the food came with no explanation about why the delay. We all ordered simple meals. Mine was a grilled chicken sandwich with fries. When it arrived, I had a feeling it'd be cold and it was. There was a very small piece of chicken, poorly cooked on a bun with a tomato. I didn't eat much of it because it had no taste but instead had the cold French fries. This visit was a disappointment because of the poor attention and extremely slow serving of food. Why were we fed after these other tables who came in much after we did. The parking lot entry was also rough with pot holes within. I had never heard of Weathervane before but we stopped in for a bite to eat on our way home from up north. It was hands down the cheapest seafood I've ever seen at a restaurant. The shrimp are about the size of a penny, no joke. The service was slow and subpar. We never got the bread the waitress was going to bring out, and the drinks weren't strong. I am from the Midwest and had lunch today, 5/10 at 1230, with some coworkers. I had my first ever Lobster Roll, it was with Mayo, and very delicious! I found a Facebook ad for $19 gift certificate, so we decided to check this place out. I was happy to find a happy hour special for $5 margaritas and 1/2 off appetizers. The wildberry margarita was insanely huge and delicious (it had the perfect amount of tequila). We ordered buffalo chicken tenders and those had the perfect amount of crunch and kick. We shared an entree of the seafood platter, my classic go-to for seafood. It was incredibly filling and tasty. You can tell everything is made fresh here. The staff was so attentive and friendly. Went here for family lunch. The foods are great. We had 2 lobsters, clam strips roll, appetizer combo and calamari. The lobster is very fresh and juicy. Calamari is a bit spicy, love it. Nice Ambiance; incredibly extensive menu. The interior has a definite rustic charm that ensures you are not going into an ordinary restaurant. Very authentic look and feel. Can't comment on the service because we went there for a take out. The options were incredible with virtually every combination of seafood imaginable. I ordered the scallops and halibut combo. Loved the scallops and lukewarm about the halibut but that is probably because I'm not a huge fan of fish but just like to try it whenever I go to a seafood restaurant. The only complaint I might have about the order was that there were no sauces included with the scallops. i got tartar for the halibut but nothing for the scallops. They were still good but would have seriously enjoyed some cocktail sauce. read more

I went here with family based on their recommendation and in my opinion, this was a great spot. I got the fried haddock filet dinner with French fries and it tasted great. The filet was so big I could only eat one but it tasted very close to cod and the tartar sauce was on point. My 3 year old son really enjoyed the fried haddock nuggets with ketchup and steamed broccoli. My 7 year old daughter asked for the Mac and cheese and fries. I only rated this a 4 instead of a 5 based on her experience. The Mac and cheese came out white and did not like her favorite which is the Kraft box cooked at home. However, everyone else enjoyed their meal and I will definitely be back when I visit family in New Hampshire again. read more

I ordered a lobster roll for take out tonight from the Dover NH location. It cost me $21.95 for the lobster roll plus coleslaw and fries. When I got home I could not believe how small the lobster roll was. It literally was the size of the little cardboard holder it was in...see the pictures. When I called back to complain the hostess said..."Have you ordered our lobster roll before?" which was a clue on how small it is and that they must get complaints. I told her it was ridiculous to charge $21.95 for this and that they shouldn't even offer it. The McDonalds lobster roll is significantly bigger and half the price. In addition, the coleslaw was in a container the size of a half dollar coin and the fries were cold. Needless to say the Weathervane is off our list for restaurants in Dover. read more

This is the 2nd time we had to wait for someone to come to the table (in the bar) and offer us drinks. We had to ask for menus. I go to the Weathervane about once a month to meet with friends, but to be honest I usually go and eat somewhere else before hand. I've tried a few menu items at Weathervane and found all of them to be overly greasy and sub par. Even for items which I knew would be greasy, like the appetizer platter with cheese sticks and friend mushrooms I couldn't handle it. It just tastes of frozen items thrown into a fryer for 3 minutes. My partner has had the alfredo without the chicken, and chicken must be a flavoring because it was bland. Once again, it tasted like a dish that had been frozen and thawed out before serving it. To their credit, the wait staff is friendly, and usually quite on time, especially with our big group. The only things I'll order if required are the fries, and the smoothies. *Really no vegetarian options* read more

Note- Weathervane isn't a chain restaurant. They do however have a many locations across New England, but as far as I know it's the same family that owns and operates each one. On to the food.... so consistent and always fresh. I have been going to the Weathervane since I was a kid. It's nothing fancy inside- basic family restaurant but every single time I go the service is super friendly, extremely efficient and my lobster roll -delicious! GREAT seafood and friendly staff to boot. My bf and I both ordered the day's featured fried seafood combo (seafarer's something something) and it was fantastic. You get so much food for your $$. We also had the calamari which was great and a slice of strawberry cheesecake to end a delicious meal. I read many reviews who thought the food was greasy; ours was not at all. The complementary buns at the beginning of the meal were lackluster, but we were there for seafood, and boy did they deliver. Shout out to our server Glenn; very nice and attentive guy. (Only thing-- the booths were a little too close together and we kept bumping our legs on the pole and each other.
