After 3 technician visits, I am still not getting hot out reliably. Spent over $1,000 plus tip and did not get the issue resolved.

One of my Water Sourced Heat Pump (WSHP) broke down and needed replacement. It was a 20 years old McQuay, after calling several Heating/Cooling contractors, and Adirondack Aire (manufacturer of replacement units), I finally spoke with Appy from Weather Makers. She gave a few options for replacements, and worked with me on pricing to get the unit installed in a matter of 3 days!! Used Weather Makers to do a steam clean and maintenance on my PTAC unit. The office staff was great, Simi always called to let me know the status of their technicians and responded right away to questions I had.Their turn around was ~3 days, one to pick up, one to clean and the next day return. Since my last review in October 2017, this company went from great to terrible to work with over the course of less than 2 years. I need to update my review so others are informed and not misled by my earlier review. Lucy, the lady who answers the phone and arranges appointments, was generally responsive and easy to work with. The technician sent to diagnose my HVAC units, however, had no respect for other people's time, and continued to show up late or miss the appointment altogether, for not one but THREE separate appointments. I initially gave this company and its employees the benefit of the doubt. I really wanted this company to continue having my business and goodwill, and salvage their f@#@ups. I asked Lucy to tell the technician if he was running late, at the minimum he needed to keep me or my tenants (who took time off on not one but THREE different work days to wait for him) posted. He never did. In fact, I never once received a single call from this technician. After waiting about a week of countless frustrated phone calls to Lucy asking for technician's ETA, getting promised by Lucy that technician was "10 minutes away" (which of course he never was), no shows, I finally gave up and had to look for another company. Save yourself the trouble and just look for another company now, if you don't want a complete waste of your time. read more

They: Offered an appointment the day after I called them to install new PTAC's. Remembered to ask me about whether a COI was needed and promptly generated it that night. Quoted me a price lower than anyone else I spoke to. Arrived on time and and finished by when they said they would. Gave me a free upgrade on the PTAC's I had ordered (perhaps because the ones I ordered weren't in stock?) and now I have more powerful units with thermostats and for which I paid the already lower price for the no-thermostat model. I now know enough to say for sure that these guys either don't know what they're doing or tried to scam me. Possibly both. They told me (and showed me on the gauges) I have a dangerously high pressure on my central AC coolant lines. I now know that can be faked, but at the time it seemed convincing. They then told me they had to go get a part and that they'd come back and flush my lines to make sure there was no air in there, then sell me new coolant. In order to do that, they insisted I call the guy who installed the system and ask what kind of coolant it used. I now know that new systems must be 410A, but also that it's written on the side of the compressor and the air handler. They insisted I call the installer to ask, so I did. Something felt wrong to me so when they left, I got a second opinion. The repair guys who came out from another company said 'oh you just have the cap wired wrong. NBD! Fixed!' Having spoken with other vendors and gotten other pieces of the puzzle, I now know this shit was very shady. Caveat emptor. Oh and for what it's worth - the address listed on their Yelp profile is a mail forwarding service (NYMail virtual mail). Their physical address? Who knows. read more

Similar to the other reviews, after one successful HVAC inspection, when trying to engage them for an HVAC repair (AC went out on a warm summer day, of course), had tons of scheduling issues. I reconfirmed the appointment the night before. The next morning I got an email from the company canceling. Went back and forth during the day trying to get the appointment rescheduled, more false promises of people coming out that never materialized. Thye schedule for the next day, then after lots of "we'll be right there" and "30-minutes away," they no-showed. It's really not worth the time and hassle. I'd find someone more reliable. read more

My PTAC unit was leaking and other vendors kept pushing me for an expensive off-site cleaning which would have left me without AC for several days in the middle of a historic heat wave. Beni (Benny?) took the time to listen to my issue, asked for a few details and gave me advice over the phone about checking and clearing the drain, even exchanging picture messages to direct me to the exact right spot which indeed had become clogged so clearing that immediately solved the issue. Someone like Beni who took pity on a random caller and gave solid advice rather than "make a sale" absolutely deserves 5 stars. thanks again sir you are a prince among men read more

Totally unreliable. Made an appointment to have ac's cleaned. They never showed up and claimed the appointment was never confirmed. However, I had texts, which I showed him, that clearly show the appointment was confirmed. Do not trust them. read more

Had them come in for hot water coil replacements for my ptac units. The technician did a great job, paid attention to details and took the time to ensure everything was done correctly. Edited: 1 more lost day of work due to no show appt but units finally fixed on 6/27. Issue was coding. They lack expertise with unit installation other than wall mounted and didn't ensure ahead of time about installation requirements that resulted in nearly 3 months of non-working units. I regret ever working with Weather Makers NYC. I contracted them based on the rave reviews I saw on yelp so sharing my experience so customers can weigh the trade offs. Pro:Extremely nice almost always but lack reliability for customers. Too many no show appoints that I either took off or left work early to accommodate appts. But by the end, even nice was not enough for me to stifle my frustration. Number of total visits where they showed: six Late appointments of more than 30 minutes: three (half of the times they showed, they were late upwards of 6.5 hours) No show appointments: eight Consultation: Prone to misleading customers on consultation for their own benefit. - recommended units - Recommended I cut into my son's closet door frame to install a wall unit. After consulting the manual, I found a floor unit that would work and not require us to cut into the door frame - placements of piping - They tried to have the electrician consider moving piping which is unsafe - drainage - They recommended cutting pipes high up on the wall so it would be cleaner. I asked how much water I could expect and they said not much. I come to learn on a hit humid day that the compressor can drain up to nearly two buckets of water. My wall was all wet and that could lead to molding issues. The appropriate recommendation is to drain to the floor. I asked them to come adjust, they tried to convince me otherwise by saying it would look ugly and that they didn't have the piping only to relent and go to Home Depot to get the pipes in order to properly apply drainage - placement of units - We discussed where the unit in my other son's room would go. Without consulting me, they decided to move it to the wall adjacent to my bedroom. Now I had an ugly pipe snaked to the wall outside and a gaping hole in his room. I wanted the hole closed up and they spewed all kinds of reasons why it couldn't be done. When I told them I wanted to consult with my contractor, they relented and closed up the hole. They also drilled holes into my outside wall for the compressor before asking me where I wanted them placed which I had told them up high during my consultation. So they had to drill new holes to properly position them. One of the condensers was slightly crooked. When I asked if that would be an issue because I worried about drainage and also if it might fall, they said it was purposeful. Odd that only one was crooked. I called Fujitsu and they confirmed that if it was slightly crooked, it would cause an issue but that there was no reason to actually install that way as it should be straight. - safety switches - The first electrician I talked to, wanted safety switches installed for the ACs inside as the instruction manual stated. After speaking with Weather Makers, they several different tactics to avoid the work. 1) they told me it would be an additional $500 to do 2) they told me it was cause the unit to default 3) they told me it was unnecessary. I asked them to get Fujitsu to confirm it was not necessary and they admitted Fujitsu would never do that. It was this moment that I realized I could not trust them Core issues: - Work began on 3/14. They were paid in full on 4/5. As of 6/18 over two months after full payment, I still don't have two working units. It has created unsafe living conditions for my two kids. My 4 year old has woken up three times crying that his room is freezing (temps dropped to 52 one night in his room) and the baby has had more than two weeks of not sleeping in his room on days where temps are 80+ because it's too hot and humid for him to sleep in there. They finally identified on 6/4 that the issue was the compressor and it needing to be replaced after pointing blame at settings, Freon issues and even suggesting there was an electrical issue. I followed up every day for an update. Four days later, I was finally told needed a pic of the tag to send to Fujitsu. This could have happened when they were here or within any of those four days... Four missed appointments later in take a picture of the tag, they finally came on 6/18 only to tell me again that the compressor needed to be replaced. I still don't have two working units... - They also were messy. Not properly cleaning up areas inside, leaving garbage and nails scattered around my yard (I have kids) and breaking a glass door I was getting rid of and trying to avoid blame and clean up for it. Recommendation: I recommend anyone using Weather Makers to negotiate their contract that units need to be working for 30 days before paid full. They are less responsive once paid Also, do your homework. Do not trust their consultation. read more

These People are rude and their advertised business hours are not accurate. They claim to be open M-Sat 9-6pm. I called at 5:10 pm on Friday after getting home to not having AC. The Assistant said the office was "CLOSED" at that time. Refused to schedule any appointment and said I would have to call back Monday when the office re-opened. She started arguing and combative with me over her stated business hours that are clearly posted on their web site when I pointed out the time they should be opened. I would strongly recommend no one ever use a business that outright lied to me. read more

Lucy, in customer service, was so patient, and quick to return a call or email. She set up our appointments, sent quotes, and organized the installation. Benny, their technician, was terrific. When we hit a small snag, he went above and beyond to ensure that the job was done well and I was happy. He is a true professional!
