However, after receiving contradictory quotes from other companies, Radon Systems revised their assessment, acknowledging that the slab could indeed be accessed from the basement and I booked a time with them for an installation. When the installation date came around, the tech and a trainee arrived and told me that the system would be tough to install and couldn't be done without removing a dryer exhaust vent that was blocking the path that the radon system would need to take. I was told that the dryer exhaust vent was taped in with a type of tape that wasn't designed to come off and I might need to hire a handyman to remove the pipe and schedule a new install. This was frustrating as the original estimator had not mentioned this at all and after waiting a month for this install date and making arrangements to be at the house during the installation, I now had to wait almost another month for a new installation. Also, I found out later that the tape came off the dryer vent very easily and could have easily been removed in a few minutes to allow the installation to proceed on the original date it had been scheduled. Then, when the next installation date came, the tech that came was just the trainee from the first installation attempt, who took roughly 12 hours to complete the installation (what I found online seemed to indicate that a radon system installation job usually takes 3-5 hours) and needed to call a more experienced tech for help countless times throughout the day. There were numerous issues along the way, including problems with wiring the system, and after he said that the job was finally done and left, we noticed that the radon exhaust pipe in the basement was incredibly loud and actually was not even connected to the part of the system drawing in radon from the sump pump. Although the tech was very courteous, a hard worker, and was trying his best, this was clearly a job that required someone more experienced and it's frustrating that the company decided to send him by himself, especially when this tech admitted that this was his very first solo installation of a radon system in a residential house and both people that had looked at the house earlier from Radon Systems said this would be a tough job. After talking with Radon Systems again, the owner sent another tech to correct the issue of the pipe not being attached. He then said he would be back to fix the electrical, which had not been wired well, but it was only after multiple follow ups that a tech was finally sent out. I was then told I would get the results of the radon test within a business day or two. After almost a week passed, I followed up and they finally sent the results. Although the system appears to be working now, the path to getting here was not pleasant and could have been avoided by Radon Systems prioritizing customer service and satisfaction and not just trying to cut costs by sending a brand new tech to tackle a tough job.

They arrived a few minutes after 1pm and had the truck completely unloaded by 1:45pm. I was amazed how fast they unloaded this truck. The total cost was far less than other quotes I received from the competition and this company has been around for a long time. Thanks ! DBL

I then had one of their representatives, at their suggestion, come to my condo to see what and how much I had to move. When the Efficient Moving man came to my condo, I was encouraged to do a "per item" moving cost basis and was told "it would turn out cheaper" than a per hour basis. The man told me that typical totes/boxes were like $3 each to move and he would take an inventory of the furniture, etc. back to the office and give me a quote. When I got the quote, the totes/boxes were $4 each. Plus there was a $200 "Trip Charges" which was not mentioned to me before. They would not disclose what the individual furniture pieces cost to move as that was "proprietary information" so I had no idea how much more a big piece of furniture cost than a smaller piece. I didn't like the whole situation but the move was looming and I felt overwhelmed so I chose to continue with Efficient Moving vs finding another mover. On moving day, three nice gentleman showed up and it took them 3 1/2 hours to complete the move, working at what I would call a normal pace. The total charge was $832.50 or $237 per hour, considerably more than the $180 initially quoted me. It also took the mover an additional half hour to figure out the bill because of their complicated system.

I wrote to ART square before I hit the road last week and asked if they could help a traveling musician passing through (who didn't have much time in any one place). I got a warm reply, so I went by the shop in between obligations for the filk fest. As I began to describe to Sayah what I needed, I noticed that he had a oud (one of the most beautiful and expressive instruments I'm familiar with) leaning against the wall, and I exclaimed, "You have an oud!" Then I noticed he actually had two. His eyes lit up, and to make a long story short, not only did he do a beautiful job on my shirt, but we also got to jam out together! How often does a traveling musician get to have that little unexpected slice of awesomeness? Sayah and his wife Rania are from Syria, and even though I offered to learn a Syrian tune, he said, "No, I want to learn one of yours!" So I sent him a link to my song "Exodus," and he also added a beautiful texture to a Scottish song that I just threw at him with no preparation. We had an absolute ball. Sayah normally has a two-week waiting period, but he made an exception for me, which I was not expecting. He invited me to come back and play anytime I'm in the area. My deepest gratitude to him and Rania. Shukran, my new friends! PS. No need for alarm. The giant scissors didn't cut into my head.

The never contacted me for payment and instead took my fathers credit card before the move began - this would have been reasonable if this were clearly expressed when I offered to give my credit card before the move, but I was told it would be after. Then, mid-move, they thought they saw a bedbug on my fathers mattress. They stopped the move and left his mattress in the basement of his apartment building leaving him with nowhere to sleep. They claimed that he told them to do this, but according to him, they told him they would do that because it would be easier for him to move it and he said "ok". Too bad this is completely illogical considering he is alone and 73 years old. I then called them and was told that I was ridiculous for thinking that I could move when we had bedbugs even though I had no knowledge of a current bedbug problem. I then hired an exterminator who came and found that there are in fact no bed bugs and they must have mistaken the carpet beetle larvae for dead bedbugs. Reckless and unkind.
